Another Program Is Being Installed. Please Wait

Windows 7 professional: "another program is being installed. Please wait until that installation is complete, and then try installing this software again. " I get this error message (see title) when i try to remove existing applications or install new applications. I upgraded this compaq cq50z-100 from vista home basic in a 2-step process:windows 7 home premium upgrade windows 7 professional upgradeonce i had upgraded to home premium, i started getting this message.

Thinking i may resolve by proceeding with the win 7 pro upgrade, i proceeded with the upgrade (success, no issues). However, the problem persists. I tried performing a 'clean boot' and then 'normal startup - load all device drivers and services' and i still get this error. Need advice on what to do to resolve this issue. Short of recovery to the original vista home basic image saved via norton ghost 15.

Win 7 Says I Must Uninstall A Program Which Is Not Currently Installed

Windows 7 says i must uninstall a program which is not currently installed on my computer before i can continue with the windows 7 installation. When i attempt to install windows 7, i get a message saying that windows 7 is incompatible with a program called "perfectdisk" and that i need to uninstall this program before i can continue installing windows 7.

However, this program is not listed in the list of installed programs through the control panel. How do i uninstall a program that is not there? I also searched for a file by this name on my entire hard drive but a file does not exist by this name either. Is there a way to bypass this incompatibility and install windows 7 anyway?

Win 7 Wont Allow A Win95 Program To Be Installed

I have an old game called "close combat" that windows 7 will not allow me to install. I tried using the troubleshooting option in windows 7, but it would not work. Any ideas? It's designed for windows 95.

Pre Installed Program Missing Files

My new computer was a christmas gift. It's a dell laptop inspiron 1545, with windows 7 os. It came with windows works pre-installed on it. It seems as if most of the programs are working correctlly, except for the calendar. A message pops up stating that it can't access one or more of the files necessary to open the calendar, and then advises me to reinstall "works". I'm hesitant to try this for several reasons.

1. , I don't want to void any warranties

2. , I'm just beginning to learn my way around computers, and windows 7 is totally new to me (i was using windows xp, and not with any expertise)

3. , I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall the whole program when it appears that just one part of it is not working.

4. , I don't have a printer currently accessible, so it's difficult to follow any lengthy instructions. Is there any fast and easy cure to fix this problem? Or any help you can suggest to a relative idiot? Just out of curiosity, it seems that the calendar on windows live is working, can i just copy or move it to works?

Uninstall Program Installed Using Compatibility Mode

I have been a satisfied user of adobe photoshop album 2. 0 for years and have a large library of photos and associated information that i wanted to migrate to my new windows 7 pro machine. I found that although the program would install and run in compatibility mode, the programs database is incompatible with win7. I have now installed the program in xp mode and things are finally running smoothly.

One problem: i would like to uninstall the copy of photoshop album which was originally installed on the win7 operating system. When i try to uninstall in the control panel/programs window, i get the error: this operating system is not supported and the uninstall shield wizard shuts down. I have searched for an uninstall setup.exe for this program and cannot locate one. Is there a way to use compatibility mode to run the uninstall wizard?

However, when going through the steps, i get to the dialog box and it has a 'start program' button. When i press this button nothing happens. There are no errors or messages. Simply nothing happens.

Program Install Error - A File That Is Required Cannot Be Installed

Program install error: a file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file setup has an invalid digital signature. Cabinet file setup 11. Cab has an invalid digital signature. When trying to install a software program on my windows 7 netbook, an installer information panel stated "a file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file setup 11. Cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt".

Thus the program would not load. Is the problem with the software or with the windows 7 netbook? If the netbook is the problem, can the faulty cabinet file be removed and replaced with a correct file? If so, how?

Win7 Boot Up Hang On "please Wait" Screen

I am having a problem booting up windows 7. Everything was ok until i tried to upgrade a print driver. On rebooting the system it hung on the 'please wait. ' screen. I was able to force a shut down which allowed me to start the computer up in safe mode. I've tried resetting the the recovery date to a time prior to the problem occurring but to no avail. I've tried limiting the number of items in start up and disabling the printer but the computer just sits at the please wait screen spinning it's wheels. Can anyone help

Setting Live Mail Program As Default Program

I am trying to set windows 7 live mail program as a default program. It does not show up as an option on my "set default programs list". I know that i have it because i am using the program. Where else can it be? I asked this question earlier in the context of trying to attach smaller picture files to an email. I followed the written instructions in the help section and those of the person who replied to my earlier question(ramesh). They both said to select live mail from the default programs list-but as i said before it is not on the list. Do you have any other suggestions?

Can I Delete Program From Program-files (x86) Directory ?

Why is windows media player in the program files directory (i assume for 64 bit programs) and also in the program files (x86)? It runs ok from either. Can i delete it from (x86) and other duplicates as well? I also note that office 2007 seems to be in the (x86). Does that mean it is not a 64 bit program?

How To Move Program, Program(86) Data Folders ?

I'm going to install win 7 64-bit on a 64 gb ssd and i want my program files to be on my hdd or my d:/ drive. I've read a few articles that contradict each other - one that states to use a registry change, a microsoft article that states ms doesn't support such a registry change, and a suggestion that all one need do is to change the drive letter on the installation of the program.

I'd appreciate it if someone would help me understand the best way to change the location of my program files. I am also concerned about leaving my temp, tmp, and perf files on the ssd. Should those be moved? And if so, what might be a good way to do this?

Install 32-bit Apps To Program-files Rather Than Program Files (x86)

On 64-bit win7, is it wrong to install 32-bit apps to (drive letter):program files rather than program files (x86)? If wrong should installer prevent this? If installer allows it, what app behavior is appropriate?

Background: winzip 14. 0 (a win7 compatible 32-bit app) won't run if installed to c:program files. If installed to any other alternate path or folder name it runs ok. By convention starting with vista, c:program files (x86) is for 32 bit apps and c:program files for 64-bit apps. But installers allow overriding the install path and folder name. e.g, maybe i want 32 bit apps in c:program files and 64 bit apps in c:program files (x64).

If c:program files is a restricted location for 32 bit apps, should not the installer and/or os enforce this, rather than allow installation then break the app? What is the correct practice for both users installing apps and developers porting apps to win7?

Custom Install - Program-files And Program Files X86

Custom install from windows vista hp 32 bit to windows 7 hp 64 bit leave 2 program files - "program files" and "program files (x86). Mostly same files in either folder. If x86 is needed, i don't mind but why duplicate entries with items like windows mail. I tried to to delete program files x86 without any success, and i would like to delete system-32 files in the windows folder plus any other 32 bit related items, if possible.

I do not want a system with duplicate and redundant files. Because two items that i downloaded and installed appear in both program files, i'm suspending any further actions on the installation until i'm fortunate enough to receive some help and/or advice from this forum.

No Device Installed

I recently completed an os install. I went from xp pro to windows 7. It appears that everything installed correctly and it was even able to update a few drivers. That being said i am having one major issue and i'm seeing a lot of redundant and incorrect information on the net. I'd like to post in respect to what i've done and see if perhaps i have missed something. Before we start here a few important stats about my machine:

Os: windows 7
Motherboard: asus sk8v
Chipset: k8t800

My sound card:
sound blaster live! (Wdm)
Model: sb0200

This issue is:

The speaker icon on the bottom right of the tool bar has a red x indicating the following under the "playback tab": "no audio devices are installed".

 Under the "recording tab":
"Microphone"
"Logitech"
"Microphone (pro 4000)"
Default device:there is a green circle with a check mark beside the microphone icon.

My headset is the logictech pro 4000. It is a headset and microphone all-in-one. It is powered by usb. If i plug the device in my playback shows this headset as my sound. There is no option to change to another sound device because windows 7 does not recoginize the sound card. When i look in device manager under sound it just shows the headset. I've tried removing the headset driver then rebooting with the headset unplugged. It simply puts the driver back on. I've tried downloading several sound blaster drivers, the problem is when you try to install these drivers the install stops because it reports there is no sound blaster device on the machine. I've also tried running a driver from windows vista, no go. What i need to figure out is how to make the device manager recognize the sound card. I think it's coming up under the heading of:
Other devices-
                      -Multimedia audio controller
                      -Pci input device

I think that is my card because:
1. It clearly states it is an audio controller
2. It is plugged in via a pci slot

So again my question would be how do i make the device manager or windows 7 recognize the multimedia audio controller recognized as sound blaster? If i can get the system to recognize the card as sb then i am sure i can get the drivers to do their job. Windows compatibility page states there are no drivers for this device, and the solution is to go out and get a sound card that is compatible with windows 7.

This card ran flawlessly on windows xp. As a matter of fact i had multiple sound options installed. I used the logitech headset with microphone for online use with ventrilo. I used the sound card separately with a different set of headphones and an actual microphone for doing voice i created a "karoke like" player where people could sing along with songs from a host of different applications like itunes, limewire, jukebox etc. So i know the sound the card works. I just need to make windows 7 recognize it.

Where Is Xp Mode Installed?

Windows 7 ultimate x64. I ran the installation for xp mode. At the end of the installation there was a check-box to run xp mode on exiting the installer. I unchecked as i had some other things to do. I am now trying to find how to start xp mode. There isn't anything on the start menu for xp mode so how do i start it the first time?

On a side note - why is the installation package so dumb about where to uncompress its files to?  The installation package was on an internal sata drive with almost 300 gb free in the partition. The c: drive is on a sata drive with 183 gb free in the partition. So where does the install uncompress to - to my x: drive which is an external usb drive. Needless to say the file copying was a bit long.

Not Able To Use All Of Installed Memory

I have recently did a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit. I upgraded from windows vista 32-bit edition. Here's the problem.

Before i upgraded i had all my current hardware running on my vista os with no problems with the memory. I had 3gb and was able to access and use 3gb. After i installed windows 7 my memory was still fine. It showed 3gb and didn't not report that any less was only usable. This morning i log onto world of warcraft and notice everything running slow. After i installed windows 7 it was lightning fast and looked great. Now i only have 1gb of memory available to use.

I have read as many things about this problem (as i could stand) before deciding to post this. Everything is the same except is a 64-bit os and a newer edition of windows. If my bios was not a problem in vista why would it be in windows 7.

I have ran the memtest. I have prowled the bios for any way to better control the memory. I'm left with believing that the problems originates from windows 7 and i hope there is a fix for it soon. I'm gonna try restoring windows to about a week ago and see if my memory returns.

Using Un-installed Fonts

I use a graphics program, paint shop pro, to create a many types of graphics. I have collected a large number of fonts (close to 50, 000)over the years which i use in creating the graphics. I do not install these fonts, i simply save them in a folder and then retrieve them as needed. In all prior windows operating systems, i was able to open an un-installed font, minimize it to the taskbar, and the font would show up in the list of fonts available in my graphics program, then when done with the font, i closed it.

Other programs also worked on this premise in using uninstalled fonts. This allowed me to have extreme flexibility in selecting and using fonts from my collection without the necessity of installing extra fonts into the system. This option seems not to be available in windows7, i open a font i want to use, minimize it to the taskbar, but it does not show up in the list of available fonts in my graphics program. Is there a way around this without having to install and use a font management program?

Print Driver Is Not Installed

Driver doesn't work with my laserjet 2100. During the driver install, i used "windows update", it then locates the driver, and seemingly installs. Afterwards, when the printer is accessed, it errors. When i go into the printer console, it tells me ". Print driver is not installed. " I go back to device manager, and the driver is named, and seems that it is installed. Very frustrating. (I'm connecting to a printserver via wireless across to my local network to a print server). I have several other pc's running 2000, xp, and vista with no problems.

So in summary, after the driver is "installed", i get an error accessing the printer, and subsequently get an ". Driver not installed. " Error message during the troubleshooting period. Windows "troubleshooter" did not find any issues. Also, the printserver has a static ip address and i used that address in setting up the printer port. Now what?

2.7 Out Of 3.00 Installed Ram Usable

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and have 3 gb of ram installed in my computer. 32-bit editions of windows are supposed to be able to use up to 3. 2 gb of ram or something like that. However, when i look at a detailed performance report, it says that only 2. 70 gb of my 3. 00 gb installed ram is usable. Why is this?

Installed Vs Usable Ram

I had a quick look at some other threads which talks about usable ram being shown less than installed ram. Mine is also same case. In my case, my windows 7 x64 ultimate box shows: installed memory (ram): 4. 00 gb (3. 75 gb usable). I understand that . 25 is gone, due to other devices/motherboard etc. Now my question to experts: considering that there are no hardware changes and if i add 4gb more ram (making total 8gb of physical ram), then what will be the value of my usable ram?

Windows Cannot Be Installed To This Disk

"windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's bios menu. ". I encountered this error after somehow magically overcoming the cd/dvd drive device driver error that's killing like half of the microsoft windows community, i swear. I'm trying to install win7 onto a 80gb hdd, after using the raid tool featured on my sata controller to format it to clear the way for this install.
Thoughts? Ideas?

Wrong Language Installed

Somehow while i was installing win 7 i ended up getting ukrainian installed. It only was visible on the calendar. All the rest of the screens and dialogue are displayed in english. I changed the calendar settings and now everything is in english.

Here is my problem. When i try to install office 2007 the dialogue window is in ukrainian. How do i fix this?

Since writing this i have checked region and language account settings. In advanced/copy settings i found ukrainian in welcome screen options. I changed everything to english and restarted. The issue is still there.

The opening dialogue box for office 2007 is still in ukrainian.
