Wireless Internet Is Connected But No Internet Access

I just bought a new computer with os windows 7. As i was doing the set-up, it asked about the home wireless network and i identified it and entered the internet key. After the set-up was over, i cannot connect to the wireless network. It says connected and no internet access. It has the public icon and "unidentified network".

I have a "network error" window that keeps popping up that says "another computer on this network has the same ip address". I tried one of the solutions on this site to resolve it. I used the command prompt to release and renew the ip address and seems to not have worked. How can i get a valid ip address? And how can i make my computer recognize the home wireless network?

Cannot Connect To Mshome Network, But Get Internet Access

Ok, i was trying to allow a network drive to be used offline on my wireless hp laptop running win7. I have had connectivity to the internet, printers, drives and other pcs for over 4 months. All of a sudden, i cannot connect to the mshome network. I still get internet access, but i can not connect to my drives, my printers or my other pcs. I shut off the firewall and disabled the virus protection. It lists the devices in the map, but it will not connect.

Is there anyway to force a connection to my local home network :mshome: via win7? At least in xp you can set up a home network connection. All win7 seems to have is the home group.

Cannot Connect To Internet

I have a dell optiplex 760 desktop computer
Cable internet connection
Windows vista home basic operating system
Norton 360 internet security

This question has been addressed numerous times and†i did read some answers, but each case seems to not be a perfect fit. I was on the internet and tried to to go to a different site and i got a message that the page could not be found. After that i couldn't get back to any page. I when i click on the diagnose option on the resulting error page, it tells me that it can't find a solution. The system had been running perfect for 3 months and i'm at a loss on what to do next. I did try to unplug to modem for 20 seconds, but that did not work. Maybe i need to unplug the modem for a longer period of time.

Cannot Connect To Internet At All

Have had no problems for months, but after a lockup and reboot i cannot connect to the internet at all. I am using a cable modem with a linksys router. Two other pcs on the router have no trouble connecting so it is not a modem or router problem. I am set for auto detect ip and my current ip is 169. 254. 88. 3 so i know it is a problem with tcp/ip or dhcs on my pc. I am running vista sp 2. I tried netsh winsock reset catalog

And tried resetting the tcp/ip stack with†netsh int ip reset reset log.txt but nothing worked and no log file (resetlog.txt)†was created. I tried reseting the dhcp service with no luck. Ny ideas?

Internet Wont Connect

Internet won't connect, can't access anything past network and internet screen in control panel, programs won't open or uninstall, everything just continually "thinks" (little blue circle spins round and round . I just bought a brand new laptop less than 5 days ago. The internet and all programs worked fine all weekend, up until last night when i turned it off. This evening, i turned on the laptop, and the internet will not connect, either wirelessly or when directly connected.

It's not a problem with the internet, as my desktop is working just fine. The internet icon in the task bar in the lower right corner starts off with the little blue circle on top of the bar graph, and then turns into an "x". When i try to right click on it, it pulls up the network and internet screen but freezes and will not tell me the network status, or any other information.

When i go to the windows task manager, it says all applications are running. When i go to networking within windows task manager, it says the wireless internet is connected, and when i connect directly to my modem, it also says that is connected, but no network ever shows up in the task bar, and ie will not open.

Windows also installed approximately 15 updates upon starting the computer this evening. I tried to uninstall the updates, but the uninstall program freezes. Updates it installed automatically include windows malicious software removal tool x64 january 2010, security updates (various), update for windows 7 for x64-based systems, etc.

I also have norton antivirus installed on the laptop (it came with a free trial). It does not appear in the task bar in the right corner anymore. When i click the desktop link, or when i try to open it via the start menu, it does not open. When i tried to uninstall it, the whole thing just froze (similar to when i tried to uninstall all other updates).

Thanks in advance. When i log into windows, everything works fine until i try to connect to the internet through wireless connection. I have also tried using the ethernet cord.

Ie Wont Connect To Internet

When i click the repair tab for my network/lan settings everything checks out but ie and outlook express can't connect to the internet. I have a laptop that connects with no problems through the router, and i have tried bypassing the router with no luck. I tried a repair installation of the os (xp home) with no luck either. I could connect for a few minutes at first and then nothing. Since the repair install i no longer have any restore points.

Any help would be appreciated. Work offline is not selected. My os disc was sent to me as a replacement a couple weeks ago. It does have sp2 , so the drivers should be sufficient. I did try to update them with no change. This has happened to two of my computers. Any chance my re-install disc has issues?

Unable To Connect To Internet

Got a new computer with windows 7 a few days ago.could not hook up to the internet no matter what i tried. The other computers are hooking up fine and the old one was working as well. Anyways, we returned it thinking it was a hardware problem. Hooked the old one back up and internet is working fine. Found a really good deal on another computer running windows 7, brought it home, hooked it up and same thing. Tried everything called tech support, and after an hour on the phone trying this and that he says, "must be a cable problem, get a new cable. "†

Yeah, right, he was obviously trying to get rid of me cause he didn't know how to help me out. So what should i do?†I don't want to go through the hassle of returning new computer #2 and go through this again with another recognizes family network and gets wireless signal with almost full bars but can't connect and it automatically says internet was unable to connect to the network. Old computer works fine, it's not a matter of bad cables. All other computers work fine.could this be a windows 7 problem or do i have to get a new router? My current one isn't even that old. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Cannot Get Tivo To Connect To Internet

I set up an ad-hoq network connection between my tivo device and my laptop running windows 7. I can see the connection in the connection list and when i connect to tivo i can transfer files between the 2 devices. I obviously have no trouble connecting to the internet with my wireless modem but i cannot get tivo to connect to the internet.

Also when i run the windows network diagnostics tool, it says "i have ne preferred wireless networks" and "wireless network connection doesn't have a valid ip configuration" but with no clues how to fix either problem. All i want to do is connect tivo to the internet.

Cannot Connect To Internet Comcast

"what is wrong with my internet?" Ok, so, i am trying to fix my neighbors computer. He has internet through comcast.initially, i told him that he had to call them to have them come and resolve the issue. Well, they came out and looked at his computer, and they told him he had a virus. So, today i went over there and ran a variety of system scans to better help me know what is going on, and the scans came back with no threats nor any virus.

So i ran disk defrag, troubleshooted the internet connection, and nothing worked. So i plugged the router into his laptop he was trying to get wireless internet set up on to see if the internet was working, and it worked fine on the laptop. What could be causing this problem and how/what can i do to resolve this issue for him? I even tried resetting the router.

Cannot Connect To The Internet Using Ie, Chrome

I just upgraded to windows 7, and when i try to connect to any wireless/wired network the yellow exclamation point shows up saying that i am connected to the network but not the internet. Once i open up firefox (only firefox), it instantly connects and everything seems fine. However, i still cannot connect to the internet using ie, chrome, or any other programs including windows update and activation for which i get the 0x80072efd error. I have tried disabling the firewall, but it still doesn't work. Has anyone else experienced this problem or have any other suggestions?

Win 7 Can No Longer Connect To Internet

My desktop running windows 7 can no longer connect to the internet via wireless or ethernet. The ethernet used to work, but no longer does (and yes, it is plugged in). The wireless worked on occasion, but not very often. Now i have nothing.

The problem has to lie in windows 7 because other computers, (vista and xp) can connect via ethernet and my laptop (xp) can connect via wireless. I also know the hardware on my computer is not at fault because i can boot†from a †live disk with linux and everything connects just fine (wireless and ethernet).

Windows diagnostics cannot find anything wrong with my connection, nor will it attempt to fix anything. However, it will say that there is an issue with the ip configuration. I have tried to manually input ip address and to have windows do it automatically. Neither changes the situation.

Browsers Won't Connect To Internet

Iíve been contacting verizon since june 7 to get my desktop at home on-line. I use ie. Evan tried foxfire and safari. No one seems to be able to get me on-line. Even had a computer technician that i paid to come out, and he says it's verizon. Finally, verizon sent a field technician out twice and each time he was able to get me on-line after several hours and phone calls. It lasted for 2 days each time. After it went down the 2nd time, called verizon back and they said i had a defective modem 6100f because red light didn't go on.

Sent a new westell 6100g and the light now goes on, but it's red. Called back and spent some time with a support technician and he said there was some kind of outage in the area, he didn't know what. Told me he'd call back in 4 hours. Never heard from him. I plugged the ethernet connection into my laptop and the red light is still on the modem. I just want to know what avenue to pursue to fix my problem. Iím going to starbucks daily just to be able to use my laptop.

Verizon doesn't seem to be able to fix the problem. And i don't want to get a new computer if the internet connection doesn't work into the house. They put a filter on the outside at the box so i didn't have to put filters on my phone lines. My neighbor right next door has dsl and isn't having any problems. Does anyone have a solution? I still have window 2003 on my desktop.

No Internet Access

I am having problems connecting to the internet via wifi with windows 7. The connection works with my desktop and apple laptop, but my new windows 7 laptop cannot connect regularly. I can connect to the local network, but it cannot then connect to the internet. I have restarted my computer multiple time, restarted my modem multiple time, restarted my router multiple times, used windows problem solver to check for the issue and it hasn't come up with anything. What should i do.

This is really annoying, especially since windows has advertised how easy it is to connect to wifi, yet that is not the case.

Cannot Use Wireless Internet On Macbook

Cannot use wireless internet on my macbook when running windows 7 through boot camp. I have no problems at all when i use the same laptop to connect to the internet wirelessly using the mac os x operating system. My older laptop running windows xp also has no problem connecting. I've tried going to the control panel, then network and sharing center, then connect to a network, and it shows that no connections are available.

When i click on change adapter settings, only two options are shown: the bluetooth network connection, which is not connected, and the local area connection, which would be the wired connection because it says the network cable is unplugged. My router does not have a bluetooth connection. I made sure all the drivers were installed.

Keep Losing Internet Access

I have a dell inspiron 530 computer and since windows 7 was installed i am having internet problems. Occasionally i will have access all day but often after a couple of hours internet access will drop. I phoned our provider and was told that everything looked good on their end. After powering off the wireless router and removing the ethernet cable, nothing happened but once the router was powered off and the blue cable†from the router†to the computer was removed then replaced access was restored.

An hour or so later i still had access (according to the light on the router) but once i pressed the space bar to bring up programs the light immediately went off and there was no internet access once more. Since as soon as i touched the space bar, the access ended, i assume there is some interconnectivity there.
Please advise

Cannot Access Public Internet

I have win7 pro installed on a laptop. I can access the public internet on my home network but not when connected on my corporate network. When connected to the corporate network, i can access intranet sites with†no problem and can ping public sites (like but just can't connect using any type of browser (tried ie8 and safari). Other o/s's (xp/vista) work fine on the network and connect to all websites. Have tried 2 different installs of win7 pro, the first being the factory oem load and also purchased a shrink wrapped copy and installed from a reformat.

There was no change, still can't access public internet sites on the corporate lan. It does work fine though when i connect to the same lan from home using our vpn client. I've tried turning off the firewall including my av software (trendmicro) with no luck. Any ideas what is blocking my web traffic?

Wireless Internet Connection Problems

I got a new sony vaio laptop for my birthday yesterday and i have spent all night and all of today trying to connect it to the wireless internet in my house. It has windows seven and my computer techonologically informed friend says that because my new laptop is with windows seven, but the router is hooked up through a vista computer, that it is not compatible and my laptop is not letting me connect to the wireless. When we tried to investigate the problem on my laptop, it says that it is connected to my netgear system, but the connection is not strong enough for me to actually use the internet.

†I did not have this problem with my previous windows xp acer laptop. It didn't have a problem connecting and allowing me access to the router. My friend believes this is a fault with windows seven, and so†i have turned to this site for help. We have investigated as many possibilities as we could but could not resolve the situation. Is there something wrong with my computer? Or is this a common problem that is easily fixed?

Can't Share Internet To Lan From Huawei 3g Internet Adaptor

I am in severe need of some help because i am about to go crazy trying to figure this out. I recently upgraded my mom's pc to windows 7 and i'm having trouble getting her network back in order. She has a huawei mobile broadband adaptor (3g), model ec168, that i'm trying to use to supply internet to her laptop and xbox360 via her router. I had it working for the last year when windows xp was still on her pc, but since installing windows 7, i can't get it to work. I'm using the same settings as i was before but i get nothing.
Here are the settings that used to work:

1. I enabled internet connection sharing on her 3g adaptor and shared it to the lan adaptor.

2. I set the lan's ip address to "192. 168. 0. 1"/subnet mask was the usual "255. 255. 255. 0" and the default gateway/dns server fields were left blank (since the pc was serving as the gateway and the dns sever).

3. I turned off dhcp on the router and set the router's ip to "192. 168. 0. 10"

4. I left the xbox360 and laptop set to "automatic"

With these settings it worked like a champ on xp, but i get nothing on windows 7. Also, everytime i turn ics "on" through the 3g adaptor, it says that it has assigned the ip address of "192. 168. 137. 1" to the lan. Not sure why but it does.
