Missing A Partition On 2nd Drive

I purchased a new w7 pc. I added the hd from my old pc as a second drive. This hd had been partitioned to a c, e and f drive. However, i can only see the old c & e partitions (now with drive letters e & f). I can't see the old f drive which contained all my burned cd's. The entire hd is 160gb and windows explorer shows the e&f drives equaling about 150gb, which would be correct with the typical loss of some gb's. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what i can do to see the old f drive? Thank you.

Installing Win 7 Rc On 2nd Hard Drive

I've been trying to install windows 7 rc  on my 2nd hard drive for the past few days and i always get the same result; windows xp boots normally instead. Here's what i do; i downloaded the windows 7 rc from your website and wrote down the product key, i burned the iso to a blank dvd with cd burner xp (tried with nero 7 as well), used the slowest possible speed to burn, i reboot and make sure the first boot is the dvd drive using 2 options; f2 in the bios and f11 boot order, when it says to hit any key to boot from the dvd i do but windows xp still boots. What am i doing wrong?

Partition Hard Drive

I got a new pc with windows 7 64-bit. The c drive has 578 gb of free space. I want to partition it so the c drive has about 100gb, and then my data drive will have 478gb. When i use the shrink volume utility in computer management, the most i am able to shrink the c drive is about 302gb. That will put the c drive at 276 gb, but i would like to get it down to around 100gb. Do i need to buy some partition software to do this or is there another way to try this in windows.

Installing To Wrong Drive / Partition

This is the third windows 7 install i've done this week. The other 2 went perfectly fine. I have done over a thousand installs of various o/s and i've never had these issues. When trying to install windows 7 to a 500 gb sata drive the installation can never complete. It typically gets stuck in the "completing installation" part of the install. When i go in the repair section of the install, i can see that it was installed on f: instead of on c:.

I had another drive attached which contained 2 partitions for d: & e: which is why it picked f. In the beginning of the install, it advises me that windows may create a partition for system files, which it does. That partition is assigned to c: and the o/s goes to f:.

This happens no matter what i do. I have reformatted so many times i lost count. I have created the partitions myself, i've let windows do it, and i've tried to just install to the drive without creating any partitions before hand. I have updated the bios as well.

Nothing is working. I can't get it to install, i can't get it to boot, i've attached it to another computer and formatted using windows and other formatting software programs. The bulk of the install seems to happen. I can see the files on the drive when i attach it to another machine. But the damn thing will not boot and i can only assume it's because the master boot table is looking for the o/s on c: but it's really on f:. But i can't seem to get that, or whatever it is, corrected.

The hardware in the machine is all new within the last year and has been used without trouble, to include running the windows 7 rc1. All hardware specs meet the minimum requirements for windows 7 by far. I don't know why windows is allocating the files to the partitions the way it is. It takes 100mb from the drive and gives it to a partition for system files and makes it c: and the o/s f: every time.

Installing On A Partition Hard Drive

This is probably a really simple question, but i have just bought a new laptop that has a 640 gb hard drive, partitioned into 4 separate drives. I have never used a pc with such a partition before. Both program files and program files (x86) are on the c:  drive, however, that drive is running out of space. How do i install new programs (games, etc. ), While utilizing the ample free space on the other drives? Can i just redirect the folders? Or is there a simpler solution?I'm fairly sure it's a simple question, but i have  no experience with partitioned hard drives.

Should I Partition A 500gb Hard Drive?

I have built a windows 7 professional 64-bit computer with a 500gb hard drive as part of a college course. We put the os on a 100gb partition, leaving ~400gb unallocated which i made into a partition. The idea was to store data on the 400gb partition so that if it was necessary to reinstall the os, the data would not be touched. Was this good thinking?  What is best practice? I don't want to start off my new computer with some rubbish set up. I don't thinks its that easy to change the location of the default folders in each user account as it was in xp.

Installation Cannot See Drive After System Partition

I recently got a hewlett packard 630 laptop which had linux os. I decided to replace it with windows 7 and face two major issues:

1) when i was installing win 7, it asked me to create a new hard drive because the 10gb partition could not fit win 7 ultimate 64-bit i wanted to install. I therefore created a 20gb hard drive and completed win 7 installation through usb. However, when i finished i could only see the 20gb hard drive and not the remaining 450gb.

2) i installed win 7 and ms office 2010 properly. However, the system is missing hp tools, such as network, ethernet, pci etc. As a result, i do not have internet. I tried a number of drivers from the hp site, with no success. How do i correct the problems above?

Missing Drive

Ok, i'm not computer smart, so i'll try to make this as simple as i can put it. Whenever i insert a dvd or cd into my laptop, nothing happens. I try to look for it on my computer and the drive isn't listed. I've also gone through various forums telling others to go into the registry and locate the upper filter or lower filter and i couldn't even find those. How do i fix my drive? Step by step procedures would be greatly appreciated.

Cd/dvd Drive Has Gone Missing

I have a new computer with windows 7 professional 64 bit and everything was fine but now my cd/dvd drive has gone missing. It's nowhere to be found in explorer and if i insert a cd or dvd nothing happens. I tried the troubleshooter but it tells me i don't have a cd/dvd drive. It's also not listed in device manager. I'm a complete non-techie type of person but was wondering if my drive has just gone kaput or maybe one of the leads internally has become disconnected. The computer is only about 3 months old. I have done all the updates that have been recommended. I would love it if someone could give me some ideas about fixing this.

Cannot Access Cd/dvd Drive Missing

Hp dv6646us laptop upgraded to windows 7 - retail version 3 or 4 mos ago just noticed my cd/dvd drive is missing, it is not listed under the device driver i tried several online fixes to no avail. I plugged in my flash drive which is usually drive g and the drive g flash shows up and the cd/dvd drive e, also ! But the drive e (cd/dvd) shows the flash (again) as the subdirectory.

The usb flash drive works fine and is accessible but even though the drive e (cd/dvd) shows up in the device manager (when my flash is plugged in) i can not access the cd in the drive i am somewhat computer literate but afraid to mess with too much that i don't know anything about.

Ntldr Is Missing After Added Second Drive

I just did a fresh install of windows 7, restored everything and all appeared to be working until i added a second drive. On restart i received the ntldr is missing. With the recovery, i tried the automated. Which said there were no problems. Tried to restart, same issue. With recovery cdin the drive, but not using it to start (no key press), windows boots normally.

Tried bootrec from the recovery cd. No success. /Fixmdr does not solve. /Fixboot does not solve/rebuild bcd does not solve/scanos reports 0 (zero) installationshttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392and then, the one d ten t (1d10t) between the chair and the monitor checked the bios settings. The boot order in the cmos setting set the new drive as boot. I know there is a moral to the story.

2nd Email Account

I've sent up my first comcast email account without any issues. I've then created another identity on the computer and tried to set up my second comcast email account but have run into this problem. It tells me i'm successful but when it tries to send or receive email i get a "logon to mail.comcast.net box asking for my user name and password. I type in what i think my user name for my second account is but it still won't "authorize" to get or send emails.

Activating On A 2nd Computer

I upgraded from vista to 7 on a laptop. Several features were lost so i want to go back to vista. With that i'm ok with. I have a desktop i need to reinstall windows onto (hd died and i am replacing it so no os on it right now). I originally bought vista for it and was using vista on it before it crashed. Windows 7 is compatible with all the hardware and software for the desktop.

If i reinstall vista on the laptop (and no longer using my purchased copy of windows 7), can i install the windows 7 on the desktop now? I guess what i am asking is, since i installed my copy of win 7 and used the key on the laptop, will ms know that i am no longer using the os on the laptop so i can use the same key on the desktop? Do i have to somehow unregister win 7 from the laptop before reinstalling vista, so i can install it on the desktop?

Win 7 Installing For 2nd Pc

I need some help how to activate my windows 7 home edition. I built a new computer all the hardwares are brand new in it. When i wanted to activate the windows it just doesn't accept the product key. I heard that if i install the windows for a new pc the activation can be issue because the product key is already hangs on (or belongs to) the first pc where i installed the windows first. But i didn't believe that can be true. So each time when i upgrade my pc or something breaks in it should i buy a new product key or the disc again ? Any idea what could i do ?

Cd-dvd Drive Missing Or Not Visible In Computer

Latest version of cdrom.sys driver is correctly installed and detected in "device manager". Reinstalling is not helping. High-low filters solution does not apply. Filter are not present. When opening the key with regedit. Window 7 automatic troubleshooter detect the problem with the statement "the drive is not assigned a drive letter" but cannot assign a new letter.

"Computer management" detects the cd drive but the drive letter is missing and the assignment a new one is not allowed: when trying to assign a new drive letter manually, the new letter assigned shows in the screen for about one second and immediately disappears again. Different drive letters have been tried in case standard "e" could be somehow locked by some other software or virtual disk.

Using "computer management" i can mount the cd drive it in a folder in other hard drive and explore/operate cd contents without problem. I am using this for the time being as a temporary solution for having access to information in my cds/dvds. This is happening in asus k52jr laptop with windows 7 home premium-64. Dvd-cd driver is a hitachi hl-dt. St dvdram gt30n.

Cannot Detect 2nd Hdmi Tv Display

I had a vga display as my primary display and a hdtv display via a hdmi cable as a second display hooked up to my computer. This worked fine until a month ago. When at first the picture showed only a zoomed in top left hand corner of the screen on my hdtv with all psychedelic colours the first thing i tried was a roll back of the updates but this had no effect, as dis changing the cable. Then when i changed the graphics card windows 7 stopped being able to 'detect' my second display with either card.

Any ideas or solutions would be most helpful?

Error - A Required Cd/dvd Drive Device Driver Is Missing

Windows 7 upgrade ultimate 64bit from windows vista home premium 64bit - error with "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. I can see many posts for this problem, but the different solutions all confuse me. I am not a pc techie. I was trying to run windows 7 64bit ultimate upgrade from windows vista 64bit home premium on my pc. Before i ran windows 7 upgrade using the 64bit disk i bought from a retailer in sheffield england, i checked on the microsoft website and downloaded windows upgrade advisor.

This reported a number of minor issues, which i dealt with. It did not report any issue with my motherboard or cd/dvd device. I also downloaded easy transfer, but as i had recently rebuilt my pc i did not have many files to copy over so i have not yet used it. I have now rolled back the install, after getting very frustrated trying to obtain the "driver"some of the postings on the web suggest:buying an external usb cd/dvd device. I might do this and try again getting an update for ite it8211 ata/atapi controller driver - whatever that means usb install option involving ripping the disk into a iso image and then making a bootable usb stick.

Why on earth do i need to do this? Surely using a usb external dvd/cd device and putting into that the windows 7 upgrade disk will do the same job?More important what is an iso image? How do i create it? Why should i have to do this? This software has cost me gbp180. 00 when i bought it from currys retail store sheffield uk w/c jun 21st 2010, and i cannot get it to work. It is not at all satisfactory! I deliberately waited till now before buying to make sure a all the bugs were ironed out!

Obviously they are not!My pc was bought new from mesh in may 2009 and the build detail is:mesh desktop pc model xgs pii 955amd phenom ii x4 955 black quad core processor am3 3. 20ghz, 8mb cache ddr2/3asus m4a78-e mainboard amd 790gx hybrid crossfirex - am2+ phenom ii, ddr2- atx8192mb 800mhz dual channel ddr2 sdram2 x 750gb serial ata2 hard drive with 3mb buffer (1. 5tb) raid 0 configuration (stripe)samsung 22x dual layer dvd writer super format +r/-r/rw/ram this shows in device hardware as tsstcorp cddvdw sh-s223b scsi cdrom device.

The driver is located in c:windowssystem32driverscdrom.sys1gb ati hd4890 graphics accelerator hd 3300 gpu - hybrid crossfire xpcie gigabit lan controller featuring ai net 2 - asus m4a78 proi will also try to call microsoft support on 0844 800 2400 using access code 1233 when prompted. However, i wonder if anyone else who has had the same problem with a similar machine can advise how they sorted out the issue.

Hard Drive Missing In My Computer But Visible In Device Manager

Hard drive missing in "my computer" but installed and visible in device manager. I have just purchased and configured a new computer, intel core i5 processor and asus p7p55d le motherboard with windows 7 64 bit home premium. I have 2 hard drives, 1 250 gig sata drive and 1 500 gig sata drive.
Windows is installed on the 500 gig drive.

In the bios i see both hard drives, in device manager i see both hard drives but in "my computer" the hard drive is missing, which means that i have no use of it. It is there as a scratch disk for the adobe suite of programs. I have tried to physically unplug the drive and re-install it, i have uninstalled it in device manager. I am at a loss why i cannot use this drive, does anyone know how to resolve this?

Win 7 Fails To Detect 2nd Monitor On Boot

Clean install of win7 with ati radeon hd4550 pci express graphics card. Running a mitsubishi diamond plus 100e monitor and a sony multiscan 500ps monitor, both off the 4550 card. On boot, the primary (mitsubishi) monitor is detected and the second (sony) monitor is not. I can open the control panel for screen resolution and see both monitors correctly identified. If i select extend these displays, windows re-labels the sony monitor as generic pnp and the sony monitor then activates and works properly.

As soon as i shut down the computer and reboot, the sony monitor is again undetected and i have to go through the whole process again. I have deleted all ati drivers and reinstalled current catalyst drivers (8. 732, 5/26/2010), as well as current motherboard drivers. (Motherboard is gigabyte ma790gp-ds4h). Integrated graphics card on motherboard is currently disabled, although this made no difference to the problem.

Setup Hangs - Required Cd/dvd Drive Device Driver Is Missing

Windows 7(ultimate) setup hangs: "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now. " First my hardware i'm trying to get installed:

Gigabyte ga-ma790fxt-ud5p
4 wd5000aaks sata 500gb drives configured as raid5 connected to the sb750

When i start the setup, everything is fine until i hit "install now". Afterwards i'm delighted with 5-10 min. Of "setup is starting", which is followed by "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, cd, dvd, or usb flash drive, please insert it now. "

After that i provide the "ahcix64s.sys" which is the proper sb750 raid driver.

I tried the versions from: http://america. Giga-byte.com/filelist/driver/motherboard_driver_raid_amd_sb7xx_bootdisk_win7-64bit.exe

And the one from amd: https://a248. E. Akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2. Ati.com/drivers/whql_sb7xx_raid_vista_3. 1. 1540. 127.zip

Both with the same result: "no device could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media"

Just a side note: i'm installing from a usb flash drive, which has worked already, when i connect a single sata drive in ide mode to the gigabyte sata chip (jmb322); however this is not my desired config, i need to run the system from the raid.

Load Driver - A Required Cd/dvd Drive Driver Is Missing

I tried to do fresh install of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit version (pls don't recommend 32 bit, as 64 bit support is the main reason for me to switch to win7) on my home pc and installer is requesting for additional driver. I've seen similar problems in other forum threads, however responses does not really help me.

My hw configuration is:
Msi p35 platinum + q6600 + 4 gb ram + few sata hdds + nvidia geforse 9800 gtx, i've downloaded all latest drivers from msi site. I even manage to extract drivers, which require installation (such as all inf drivers, etc). However, windows installer is rejecting all drivers (it allows to select driver but throwing "no new driver found" message after i press "next" button).

So, here is summary of my biggest frustration:
1. Why windows 7 installer rejects all latest drivers?
2. Why windows 7 upgrade advisor is saying that all devices on my computer are windows 7 compatible (on 64 bit report)
3. Why windows 7 installer does not mention device which requires new driver?
4. If microsoft is planning to run qa on its customers i'd like to get my fees!

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.
