Live File System Burning Problem

I had a problem with windows 7 home premium & live file system burning. Slow burning and reduced dvd disc capacity - see orig post below. This is not an uncommon problem and is windows 7 related - it is a universal disk format file system driver issue. There is a hotfix available - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975617. See issue 3. It worked.

"I burn slowly at 500k and approx. 1gb will "fill" a 4. 7gb dvd. I've updated drivers, bios, motherboard chipset drivers, burner firmware and installed a new burner. Nero burns fine as does a mastering burn. Dvd+r & dvd-r discs are affected. Dvd-rw burn fast and with no problems. I have done a clean install of windows 7 and applied updates, yet i have the same problem. There is no av or other software running - just windows 7. All drivers are windows certified afaik. No usb devices either.

If i do a clean install of vista sp2 business on the same machine, there is no problem and i can burn live file system dvd discs on any media at >3mb/sec and get full disc capacity. So it's definitely windows 7 related. "

Live File System Will Not Save File

Live file system will not save file!Windows 7 and udf will copy several files and then you get to the last file which is 700 meg and the space free bar under the dvd rw drive shows 1. 2 gig left. The copy starts and runs till about 350 meg left then it slows down all the way to 17 kbs and also till 10 k was left on the dvd. By this time about 5 hrs have gone by and the copy window has showed 1 hr left for 3 hrs. The cancel button won't work task manager when used will crash the system. You can force a shut down but then you have to reactivate norton with your purchase code. A search of the internet for me was no help at all.

Installation File Won't Run Without Iso Burning Software

Problem installing downloaded version of windows 7 professional on a netbook running xp with no external dvd drive - installation file won't run without iso burning software. I downloaded windows 7 professional to install on my netbook running windows xp - the help indicated that this would be possible and would avoid the need for an external dvd drive but because it needs to be a clean install the file downloaded is a . Iso file which i guess needs to be burnt to a cd to run?

Is there any way of getting round this without getting an external dvd drive, possibly by using alcohol120% to mount it on a virtual drive - i guess this could be a problem with a clean install, so would it work if i put it on my external hard drive?

Burning Error In Media Player

I am using windows media player to burn a few cd's and i keep getting the same error message. The error message i get is:windows media player encountered an error while burning. Verify the burner is connected properly and that the disc is clean and not damaged. I use to not have any problems burning cds and now all of a sudden i do. Wmp acts like it is burning the cd and goes through the status completed, but as soon as it gets to 99% complete, the cd kicks out and i get the above error message.

Also, when it 'acts' like it is burning the cd, it goes through the process a lot faster than when it really is burning a cd. I am also using brand new cds, that are not scratched or damaged. I am using a laptop, so as far as i know, the burner is connected properly. I'm not sure what to do or how to resolve my issue.

Problem With Burning Files To Dvd+r

I can burn a disc using the "with a cd/dvd player" then when i try to burn using the "like a usb flash drive" option, windows 7 formats the disc asks me to "open folder to view files. This opens another window that tells me to "drag files to this folder to add them to the disc. " I then drag the file from my desk top and it is there, and i click on eject, which gives me "preparing to eject, please wait" while windows prepares the disc for other computers to use (or something like that). The disc is then ejected. Here is where my problems begin. When i put the dvd+r back in, i receive the message option of  "open folder to view files" so i click on it.

This brings the file on the dvd+r to appear. I can open it to reveal its content and i can open and change a document. However, the next time i try to open any of the documents i get this message " d: is not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable, " or "this file cannot be found. " I then eject the disk and reinsert it and have to open it manualy. It shows up as needing to be burned, so i click on the folder, and then "burn to disc. " I then get "prepare this disc" click on next and get "there was error burning this disc. The disc might no longer be useable" and it is automatically ejected.

Pdf File Association Not Found In Live Mail

If a message received in live mail on a windows 7 home premium 64 bit machine contains a pdf file attachment, that attachment cannot be opened from live mail. Word file attachments and others can be opened.

When the attempt to open the pdf file attachment is made, the message informs that "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. " If the file is saved to the local computer, it can be opened normally, as the file association is correct. This is confirmed by typing assoc .pdf in a command window and receiving the response ".pdf=acroexch.document". How can opening pdf documents from live mail be accomplished without saving them first.

3. I want to transfer my old emails (stored in . Pst file) into my new computer.

Live Movie Maker Project File Loses Slides

I opened a windows live movie maker project file and it suddenly loses slides and/or videos and loses maybe 3-5 minutes. If i click on a title or caption and make a simple change, then click the 'undo' button, the missing minutes, etc are restored, but all the captions are misaligned and can only be realigned by painstakingly moving each caption. In an experiment tonight, using a copy on another drive, i had to 'find' the slides to get images to appear. All was fine until i located a video. That's when the file lost minutes. What's going on?

Error Code - 2 - System Cannot Find The File Specified

Error copying to external drive: error code 2 "system cannot find the file specified" i've been trying to perform a mirror style backup to my external drive of everything in c:users. First of all i tried using robocopy (my preferred tool) with the command line running as administrator and that failed after copying a few hundred files. It came up with error code 2, system cannot find the file specified. I used robocopy c:users h:ackup_win7 /b /m /e /dcopy:t /r:0 /xj

I then tried using the freeware tool fbackup, this also managed to copy a few hundred files before getting stuck in the same way (at a different point).

Finally, i tried picking one set of folders (pictures) and doing a manual copy/paste into the destination directory, this also failed after copying a few hundred files with an error about not finding the file.

The actual files it fails on are nothing special, just regular jpg. If i create a simple test.txt on the drive it works fine. The problem only seems to occur with large numbers of files being copied and where it actually fails seems to depend on which tool i use to copy the files.

Each time this problem occurs my system goes into meltdown with massive cpu usage and then windows won't let me dismount the drive as it insists something is still trying to do something with it.

The only way out is to restart the computer. I've tried running chkdsk /r on the external drive (a seagate freeagent 1tb drive via usb 2) and no errors were found. The drive in question worked perfectly with xp sp3 for several months and has no problems reading from files in windows 7, just this writing issue. I've also tried turning off all services with msconfig, but that just meant that the external drive wouldn't mount at all.

My system is an athlon 64 x2 5600+ running at 2. 9ghz, with 4gb of ddr2 800 on a msi k9n v3 motherboard and an nvidia 8500 gt graphics card. The source disk is a 300gb hitachi sata drive. Overall system performance (aside from this issue) seems very good. I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, installed from a clean install after xp was previously on the disk.

Delete File In System Volume Information

I had a hardware failure last week, which resulted in a new installation of windows 7. However i'm left with a 220gb file in system volume information on a storage drive.

I'd like to delete it, but i don't have permission, nor do i seem to be able to give myself permission to do it.

It's likely the result of a previous backup - however i have subsequently changed my backup procedure and i'm absolutely sure that this does not contain any data that i would like preserved.

Given that it's such a large file, i want it gone.

Win 7 64 Bit Does Not Recognize File System On Sata Raid

Windows 7 64 bit ultimate (installed on single ide drive) does not recognize file system on sata raid pairs set up previously with xp. I recently upgraded to windows 7 64 bit ulitimate using a (single) ide drive. I also have two sata raid pairs on my pc, one mirrored, one striped. I installed drivers (asus m2a-vm_hdmi mobo) that enabled w7 to recognize the drives, but as far as w7 is concerned, they're brand new blank drives that need formatting - and both pairs have data that i do not want to lose.

When i double click a raid drive icon through explorer, w7 tells me i need to format the drives, when i decline, i get a "x: is not accesbile. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted" error.

How do i get access to the files on these drives through w7?

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

User Sets File Association Now System Restore Doesn't Work

On a brand new laptop the user copied some word files over, and they opened on the new computer just fine. Then they copied some more .doc files and they could not open them, so (they claim) they choose word as the default file association (which is fine, except it should not have prompted for that in the first place). After that all the word document shortcuts they created on the desktop changed to a shortcut with ie's 'e' symbol - clicking them flashes up a screen that instantly goes away (ie i assume) and ie's download file dialog then opens.

Further, an attempt to open ie acts the same way. Worse, running system restore does the same thing - flash, then ie files downloaded dialog - asking if i want to open one of the files listed (which are the . Lnk files to the word documents on the desktop). So short of doing a full system restore, and also short of manually copying the registry files from the last restore point (which i'm not sure is even possible on a windows 7 drive) what can i do to resolve this mess?

Upgrade On System With Raid 1 Drive System

What is the best way to upgrade a critical system with windows vista home premium running with two hd's in raid 1, to windows 7? I would prefer to do an in place upgrade, so that i would not have to reinstall applications or data files. One way that occurred to me, would be to disconnect one the hd's during the upgrade. If everything went well, i could reconnect the other drive (or better yet, a new clean drive), which would then be automatically mirrored by the hd controller. Has anyone successfully done this?

How Do I Open A File As A Zip File?

I work with an application that packages files into "zipped folders" (yeah, just zip files), but uses a different file extension. It works exactly like . Gadget (windows gadgets) and . Themepack (windows themes) files work: you can rename them to .zip and open them with the zip viewer.

I want to skip the step of renaming it each time. I want to just associate the files with the zip viewer. In fact i don't need to associate it, just open-with a single time: i know if i can do it once, it will always be an available option on the right-click context menu of the files.

But i can't find which program is associated with zip files. I tried searching the system-32 folder.

System Image Recovery Can't Find System Image

I am trying to restore a backup system image to my repaired pc. It is wiped clean. I have the "repair disc windows 7 64 bit" that i created in windows 7. Using windows 7 backup i have a system image backup on an external wd essentials 1tb usb hard drive. I insert the repair disc and start the system. Get to system recovery options. I have the external hard disk with the system backup image connected. Select system image recovery option. Says "windows cannot find a system image on this computer. Attach the backup hard disk or insert the final dvd from a backup set and click retry. Alternatively, close this dialog for more options.

Retry gives me the same message. Tried starting with drive attached, not attached, same result. Click cancel. Next option selected is "select a system image. " No system image listed. Hit refresh, still nothing. Top of screen says "click advanced to add a network location or install a driver for a backup device if it does not show up in the list below. "  I click on the advanced tab.

Option to "search for a system image on the network" or "install a driver. " I select install a driver. Find the right driver for the wd essential hard drive (disk.sys and partmgr.sys) and when i click on them i get "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. "  Click ok. Can't find how to load these drivers i am being asked for. Funny thing is that on the screen where i search for driver i can see the wd essential hard drive connected to the system. I can also see the system image files but when i click on them i get the same error message, "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware. "

Live Email

For the last month or so, i believe you did an update or change to live.com, it is very frustrating. It loads, reloads, reloads, clicks and clacks before i can get started addressing my emails or writing an email. The send to space will not take a name unless i mouse click it. When i open live.com email i have to wait while it loads and reloads about four times. Very frustrating. I loved it before, but can't have an email account that wastes my time as i use it for work. Is this only my problem or a problem with the new update?
