Cannot Use Administrator Rights To Install Software

I upgraded to windows 7 from vista 64. I had the following issue in vista. One of the dlls (16 bit?) Would not load and every time i restarted the laptop (sony vaio), it would not load and gave me a reminder. I have the same issue with windows 7 and the following. I can not load any software, getting the message that i do not have access to keys (in the case of itunes). It will not accept windows updates. I have a freeagent drive and it will not allow it to back up in any form. I attempted to do a 'burn down' installation of windows 7, to clean out any prior programs or data and it will not let me initiate any action from the windows 7 disk at all.

Administrator Rights

I am getting a message, "you need administrator rights to use this utility" when i try to load a curriculum manager designed by the army for jrotc instructors. I am required to load and update ms-office files setup utility program. My co-worker has the same hp model i have and is having the same issue with this program. This is a classroom manager that requires me to update these files for it to function properly. The paper i have say the location of this task is at cm startup>help desk>ms-office files setup utility. I need this resolved no later than monday. My phone number is 317-709-3267 gonzales calloway

Lost Administrator Rights

I had extreme difficulty adding a remote printer to my user account that is supposed to be part of the administrator group. I was totally unable to add printer. I got the following message: "the operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator. " When i logged into the administrator user account i was able to immediately add the printer with no problems. When i run "gpresult /h report.html" it tells me that i am in the debuggers and home users groups, but not the administrators group. When i log in the administrator account it says my user account is an administrator. How do i repair this so that i am a full administrator?

Editing Registry Administrator Rights

I have a java program which needs to edit registry at hkey_current_user. It is able to execute regedit when run from a standard user account but when i run the very same program from an account having administrative privileges, i get the error saying the "regedit needs elevated privileges".

This is mind boggling as a standard user is able to run regedit without a prompt where as an administrator needs elevated permissions ?

Is there any way i can edit hkey_current_user registry values from an account having administrator privilages without having to "elevate" the privileges of this account.

How To Get Full Control Of Administrator Rights?

User accounts -how can i get full control of administrator rights? My son gave me a new laptop & the only thing that he had done on it was. I to fill in his user a/c (i am not sure if he had it as admin or standard use, i. T is an assus running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. The 1st thing that i did was to fill in my user a/c and put myself as administrator and then i deleted my sons a/c, i then deleted trend micro security that came with the laptop and loaded avg (as i had on my old laptop running xp), i then loaded firefox to enable me to get wot (web of trust) & then i deleted firefox as i did not want it as my web browser, i then downloaded drivers from hp to enable me to load my printer which i did through the cable & this worked, i then tried to load the software for the printer & at the end of the installation a box came up telling me that this software cannot be installed using the "run as" command & to logon as user with admin privileges (which i was already logged on as), i then tried to install an artwork programme which it did but when i tried to access it i was told that requested registry access is not allowed. After all this i really wished i stayed with xp anyway i started to search the microsoft forum for any answers & i got a lot about uac & i saw a posts answer recommending a download from itknowledge24 this being uac controller tool v1. 0, i downloaded it & the icon for it was put on my taskbar but this has now disappeared, i am not a newby on computers but neither am i a geek, there seems to be a lot of people with similar or the same things that i am experiencing, i just want to know how i can get full control of administrator rights on my computer to allow me to do what i want as i could do on my xp, incidentally i never ever got any infections or malware on my previous laptop.

Users Cannot Logon Unless Given Administrator Rights

Users cant logon unless they have been given administrator rights. After the last windows update, i am the only one that can log on to my user account. All other user accounts that do not have administrator rights can no longer log on. If you attempt to log on to an account that does not have administrator rights it starts to log on, then it logs off, and then goes back to the screen were you choose which user you want to log in as.

If i give the other user to administrator rights they can log on, and everything seems to work fine. But i don't want to give administrator rights to other users just so they can log on (this is a quick and easy way for my kids to mess up my computer). What can i do to fix this?

Error Message When Try To Install New Software

I recently bought a dell laptop that has turned out to be a huge mess. When i first got it i immediately had to reinstall windows  7. I have had to reinstall it twice. Now the computer will not allow me to turn on the firewalls, i get an error message and anytime i try to install new software it will not let me. I can't even download any new virus software or upload from a disc.

Dell wants to charge me a boat load of money just to try and fix it. The computer is still under warranty but they will not cover what they consider to be software issues. I will wind up paying half of what it cost me just to fix a problem that clearly happened at the factor. Are there any suggestions for this problem?

Win 7 64-bit Software Raid After Install

Already have windows 7 (and tons of other programs) installed. I am currently considering to add another hard-disk and activate raid 0. The only thing, that holds me back currently is: i don't want to go through an entire new installation. During the fist installation (upgrade from vista), i installed also ahci.

A) is there any chance to activate a software raid without having to go through an entire new installation?

B) would it be alternatively possible to create and save an image of the current installation and then write it back to striped drives?

Unable To Install Programs Due To Not Being Computer Administrator

Why am i unable to install programs due to 'not being the computer administrator' when i am the administrator? The last couple of times i have tried to install programs, such as adobe reader, a message comes up saying i do not have permission to install and must re-try when logged on as the administrator. But i have only the one user account on the computer and it says i am the administrator. I have tried granting permission to my user account (the same one is listed separately, once as administrator and again as what i have called it) to act as administrator but it said i am not allowed to do this.

Samsung Ml-1430 Printer Driver Software Wont Install

Samsung ml-1430 printer driver win7x64 software won't install; can't find working driver-same with samsung dvd r/w. I quite vista (32 bit) when i had an infinity of problems getting hardware and software to work (goodbye to all that $$$), now i've tried win7x64 bit and i have worse problems!  I'm getting tired of this. I may junk it all and just install xp (again) after another ms or samsung failure to make sure hardware and sw works.

I can't figure out how to make the compatibility mode work and so much more won't work. I have a 3 ghz core 2 duo e8500, 4 gigs of memory, sata ii 500 gb hard drives, decent 8800 gt's video, so it's not a slow system. I just don't get it. If i could run rfactor on a mac i would get one just to avoid the last 3 years of headaches.

Rights Management Add-on Issue

I'm working in an ad rms project with a customer and i'm having issues displaying rms protected e-mails with owa (exchange 2007). We're testing with 3 windows 7 (ie8) machines, and when we try to open a protected e-mail we're asked to install the ie add-on, (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Familyid=b48f920b-5af0-46b4-994f-2f62582cc86f&displaylang=en) which we have installed. But after install the add-on and try to disply the protected message, ie hangs with a blank page. We try this with the 3 machines with the same result.

Any thought on what may be the problem? (Everything works fine with outlook and other office apps) something i noticed is that in the ie add-on download page, windows vista and 7 are not listed as supported o. S. , So is there another ie add-on for win vista and 7.

Login As Administrator

I have had a few programs that have asked me to log in as administrator which you think being the only log in i would be but apparently on some programs i don't have the right. I found this:

Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd and click run as administrator
- Type: net user administrator /active:yes (notice there is a space between the word "administrator" and the "forward slash"
- Press enter
- Exit
- Restart windows and you will be given the opportunity to log on as administrator. Is there any other way around it?

Administrator Disabled

My administrator account was disabled and i have the same problem as rodek. The only difference is that i did not disabled administrator - i don't know how it happened. Now i am not able to make any changes to my computer.

I had administrator enabled via local security policy. After installing the programs, i disabled the administrator via cmd.exe "net user administrator /active:no". Now i want to install some additional programs and i cannot enable the administrator login because the uac settings do not allow me to turn the admin on. In the command prompt, it says "type administrator password and then click yes. " But when i type the password the "yes" button remains gray and i cannot click it, so it does not allow me to login as admin, so i'm stuck only able to login as a user, but not the admin. I know the admin password and have not forgotten it.

Not Registering As An Administrator

I have an issue with my administrator account which i made when i installed windows 7 to my computer. Where it does not get picked up as an administrator all the time. Sometimes when i try to uninstall or change some settings i get a message something like:warning: need administration rights to perform this operation. It is highly annoying when trying to remove and change programs or change settings. I am set as an administrator and  it just doesn't want to register that i am.

No Administrator Privileges

I just bought a new toshiba laptop today, and set it up. Everything seemed to go smoothly, until i tried to delete the one of the silly desktop shortcuts that was pre-installed by toshiba. Then user account control took over and said that i needed to be logged in as the administrator to do this. It said that i have to type a password and click yes, or no. There is no space to enter a password, and the 'yes' box is disabled. My only choice is to click the 'no' and go back to the drawing board.

The same happens when i tried to install adobe flash player. I also tried to change my account (which is marked as a 'standard account' into an administrator one, but the same message occurs. This is very frustrating, what use is a computer if i can't delete or install the programmes i want to use?!

Cannot Understand Who The Administrator Is?

I never shut my pc down, i always leave it on. This pc i have had for 4 weeks. Tonight i went to make changes to audio recorder and selected troubleshoot audio recordings.

It then darkens the screen and tells me to type in administrator password and then click yes.
I thought i was admin? I thought when i switched off my pc and switched it back on again that that was the password i was being asked to enter and so i thought i knew it.

But when i try to do this troubleshoot it comes up no response, i have also tried just hitting enter but  both do nothing and just send me back to the original screen.

How do i find out who the admin is on my own pc?
When i login when powering up what is this password?
Where will get my admin password from?

Activating Administrator

I used the transfer utility to transfer my credentials from a windows business laptop to a brand new laptop with windows home premium on it. When i got to windows hp i found out that my account was a standard account instead of an administrators account - even through the account says administrator type when i drilled down it was set to standard and would not allow me to change it. Looking at some of the other threads i tried a number of things and this is what i found to work below for me.

Signed on to my account
Went to the windows/system32 directory and found cmd.exe
Highlighted the file name and right clicked
Chose run as administrator from the menu
Double clicked on the file
The command window opened
Typed in net user administrator /active:yes
Closed the command window
Rebooted

The administrator now show up on the welcome window i tried the windows key and r - which did not work. When i tried to type lusrmgr. Msc i got the message that this was not supported in home premium my question is was this because my transferred account was an administrator's account to begin with? Or was this fluke that i managed this - the administrators account when activated does not have a password on it and i'm assuming that i should create one - but i'm not sure what will do after the fact to windows utilities and the like. Anyone?

Administrator Without Authority

I am running windows 7 home premium and am generally very pleased with it however i have run into a problem this morning. I am the owner, administrator, and sole user of this computer. This morning i was trying to modify the hosts file but when i tried to save the modification i received the following error message:

C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts.txt
You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Well i contacted myself immediately but i could not help me. I am hoping that one of you kind people will be able to provide me with some guidance.

Cannot Download As Administrator

We received two brand new hp6241f pcs running windows 7 from future shop here in canada. I got home tonight from work and found my dad still sitting in front of the first, trying to get it set up. At that point he was trying to activate the 60-day ms office trial but every time he clicked the link to get a key he'd get a message saying he wasn't connected to the internet. I confirmed that he was; we can totally surf.

I found another way of getting the key but kept getting redirected to a bing page that said "we are unable to find [url]. "

I tried a few times, figured it was a bad link and decided to move on. I went to download windows live mail.

Same stupid thing. The download page would load, the download would be about to begin and the redirect would happen again.

I've tried downloading firefox and ccleaner - same problem.

I've browsed forum after forum and answer after answer. There's only one user and she's identified as administrator.

I played with security settings up the yin/yang. I do hi-speed internet technical support for a living so i can easily disable common stuff. I followed some instructions to make changes of the user controls but full control is already enabled.

I'm at my wits end and hating win7. There are too damn many security options, if you ask me. Too many to find, apparently, because nothing i've done is working.

Administrator Assignment Problem

I just bought a new computer and i used the windows easy data transfer but when it was done my status as an administrator has changed, i am now a standard user. All of my info seems to be correct except that i cannot do the functions i need to do without  the administrator privileges. There is another account on the machine and it has full admin rights, but my data and files are not in that account. My question is how to fix this problem where i have full admin rights with the least amount of havoc?
