Temporary Corrupt Toolbars And Icons

I recently upgraded from vista to windows 7. Lately when i launch an office product 2007 (outlook, excel) the toolbars become corrupt. If i mouse over the toolbar it clears up. When i close down the applications and go  back to my desktop, sometimes the icons on the desktop will corrupt. If i right click on the desktop and choose refresh, the icons clear up again. This issue does not occur when using ie or when i am viewing an actual digital picture. The issue only occurs in the toolbars. Is there a repair function or an faq that addresses this nuisance issue?

No Toolbars / Cannot Download Anything

I have windows xp professional with service pack 2, and internet explorer 7. Automatic updates were turned on & i selected to upgrade to internet explorer 8. After the upgrade, everything on the internet was huge & blurry, so i did a system restore to a point before i had installed ie8. Now i have no toolbars on ie7.

No windows explorer toolbars & no internet explorer toolbars, i can't download anything, i can't print from the internet, i can not cut and paste from the internet to any other application. I disabled all firewalls. I ran spyware search & destroy scans. I deleted the registry values for itbarlayout. I right clicked & left clicked on every inch of my screen to see if i could get an option to view toolbar.

Toolbars When Right Click On Taskbar

I just upgraded to windows 7-64 bit home premium from vista-64 bit. Now i notice that when i rt-click on the taskbar, and then select the toolbars option, i see the usual ones like the quick lunch, links, adress, desktop, but then i also see two that i have never seen before; they are itunes and tablet pc input panel.

I do have itunes application, but why does it appear as a toolbar option? Besides, when i click it, nothing happens. And, i really don't know anything about the tablet pc input - may be this later is a normal option that i had never paid any attention. I'd appreciate any help in resolving the itunes toolbar issue.

Moving Toolbars Off Taskbar Onto Desktop

I am a great fan of toolbars (i do not like having a million icons on my desktop, and do not display desktop icons). Instead, i have (with xp, for example) created toolbars of related programs from folders of shortcuts. I then pull them off the taskbar onto the desktop to a convenient spot. I find that in win7 i cannot get them off the taskbar! I get the 4-way move arrow, but it does nothing except move the toolbar back and forth on the taskbar. I usually have about six toolbars and that is too many to have on the taskbar all the time! Sniffle, sob, weep!

Preventing Windows To Wiping Out Custom Toolbars From Taskbar

How to prevent windows to wiping out custom toolbars from the taskbar, i have a big issue with windows 7. I have two custom tollbars in my taskbar, one to simulate a windows xp quick launch and the other to open frequently used text documents. Each time i make a change, for example in ie8 internet options and restart the computer, these custom tollbars are wiped out and disabled. This is not the first time it happens. Last time it happen after having installed a windows update.

How to prevent these unwanted changes? They are very annoying because i have to do a lot of work putting the toolbars again, positioning them correctly and arranging the quick launch icons correctly. I don't like the windows behavior consisting to void years of user's habits each time a new operating system is released and much less its attempts to reset users settings like this. Ny suggestions?

Logged On With A Temporary File

From the desktop, after selecting my profile and after a long wait ("starting profile" followed by "preparing desktop"), i get a popup box indicating "you have been logged on with a temporary file. "  Also says anything i create in this temp file will be deleted, and to try logging on later or contacting administrator. I check the event log and didn't find anything. Tried system restore to about a week before the problem began and still same issue continues. I cannot access any of my files. Was going to try to copy them into a new profile but can't find them. Suggestions?

How To Delete Temporary Internet Files?

Temporary internet files question i open up internet explorer, click on tools, internet options. Under general tab i click on settings under browsing history. This takes me to window temporary internet files and browsing history . Here i click on view files. This opens a window with "many"favicons for sites i’ve visited plus some other things. It looks like all this takes up lots of space so i tried deleting one of the favicons by right clicking on the link & clicking delete, but nothing happened. Should i try to get rid of all this & if so, how?  I have already deleted temporary internet files & browsing history.

Error Message - There Is Not Enough Free Space To Store Temporary

I'm trying to upgrade from vista home premium to windows 7 home premium and get the following error message:

"There is not enough free space to store temporary windows installation files. Try using disk cleanup, uninstall old programs, or move files to an external location such as a cd, dvd, or external hard drive. "

However, my hard drive has 91 gb free out of a total of 149 gb. I have no partitions and so this is the only hard drive that windows can be installed on. I also have 3 gb ram. Anyone have any thoughts on what i can do?

Program Icons Have Been Replaced With Generic Icons

While trying to install adobe cs4 on my desktop i kept receiving errors on not being able to write to the c:windowsinstaller file. I had to change folder settings to see system files first then once i found it i could not do anything to it and had only limited rights. I turned off norton and made sure i had administrator rights and even tried to execute the file "run as administrator" with no luck. So i took ownership of the c drive and made sure that the system and myself that full control (probably not the right thing to do but i was out of ideas).

The install finally worked. However, now all of my programs do not have their standard icons (word, excel, quickbooks etc. ), They have generic icons and not all the same type of icon but they are all generic windows icons. All the programs work just fine but i would like to have have the original ones back.

Error - Not Enough Free Space To Store Temporary Installation Files

Not enough free space error when i have 190 gig free on drive c? When upgrading from vista hp 64 bit to win 7 hp 64 bit, following the "checking compatibility" function of the upgrade process i get the following error message:

There is not enough free space to store temporary windows installation files. Try using disk cleanup, uninstall old programs, or move files to an external location such as a cd, dvd, or external hard drive.

I have done that, moved all pics, music, uninstalled itunes and done everything the program recommended. My c drive is 286 gig and it has 190 gig of free space. Clearly, there is plenty of room. So what's up with this error message?

Icons Have Changed To Generic Icons

For some reason after i changed my windows desktop background and then later restarted my pc i noticed that cpu-z, pc wizard, & eleet no longer had 'icon art' to them and they looked like generic icons. They still worked but i was wondering what would cause this and how to fix. Also, another change that i did was to pin shortcuts to these programs in my taskbar. All other programs were fine. For some reason this was highly annoying to me. Any suggestions?

Some Desktop Icons Appear As Broken Icons

I had to reconfigure some connections inside my box, and inadvertently switched the order of my sata drives. In short, windows loaded with my optical and 2nd hdd swapped, so it assigned them letters. All the icons that looked in d: switched to the "broken" icon. I've since switched drive letters and rebooted, multiple times. Right clicking on the icon and selecting properties displays the correct icon under the "shortcut" menu. How can i get that icon to show on the desktop now?

Some of my icons have reverted to the windows default icon, regardless of where they are placed (quicklaunch/startmenu/random folders). I built myself a nice new i7 based system i7 920 mb , gigabyte ex58-ud3r x58 core i7. 6 gig of triple channel ram, i am running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. I currently have 6 hdd in my system 4x320 sata drives raid onto 2 640 units

Install Disc Corrupt

I recently purchased an hp pavilion elite. It came with windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I wanted to scrap all the random stuff that hp puts on their computers, and i have a copy of windows 7 professional 64-bit anyways that i wanted to install.

So i booted from the disk, did a clean install, formatted the hd and hit continue like i have to done with clean installs with this same disc successfully 2 other times. It moved to the next screen, copied all the files to 100%, and "moved on to expanding windows files". Then it just sat at 0% for about 15 minutes, until giving me this error:

"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart installation. Error code:0x80070017"

Does this mean there is something wrong with this disk? I was thinking of just going out and buying a new copy of windows 7, but i wanted to know that there wasn't another option.

Corrupt .net Framework Versions

I am experiencing strange program behavior which i suspect may be related to corrupted versions of .net framework. All versions of .net framework have at one time or another come onto my computer via windows update. 3. 5 appeared to install correctly, but i have aberrant program behavior, the rough history of which is as follows:

  - Memeo backup stopped functioning.
  - Memeo engineer diagnosed this problem as related to a corrupt .net framework 2. 0.
  - He used a utility to remove 2. 0, it was then reinstalled.
  - This initially appeared to solve the problem, but then other programs began failing. Examples are: adobe reader (now reinstalled via firefox); some aspect of internet explorer which is needed on the adobe reader download page; my photo transfer package nikon transfer (now mysteriously working again); general slow performance; my e-mail program eudora - intermittent failings.

  - Ms windows update helpdesk advised me to uninstall (via utility) 3. 5 and then reinstall it. I did this, but the only noticeable result is that memeo backup is now failing again.

  - I just ran windows update again, it downloaded and installed another security update, no error messages generated.

I am now asking  if the following course of action seems reasonable:

1) uninstall memeo backup (which is currently just generating a "failed to run" message at startup)
2) use the utility which you sent me to uninstall all versions of .net framework.

3) visit windows update to see if that will reinstall all versions of .net framework in the correct order.
4) reinstall memeo backup

But before i do this, i would like to know.

A) would it be better to just try uninstalling 2. 0 3. 0 and 3. 5 first?

B) the memeo engineer was able to tell me that 2. 0 was corrupted by asking these questions about the registry:

3. Please check a registry key for me, please do not modify or delete any keys in the registry. To access the registry, please see the instructions below:

1. Click on start.
2  click on run (for vista it's the start search box).
3. Type regedit and press enter on your keyboard.
4. Navigate to hkey_local_machinesoftware.

5. Let me know if there is a memeo key in the software folder and if you can access the contents of the memeo folder. From my reply to that he was able to diagnose the problem. Is there any similar way that one can diagnose whether or not other versions of .net frameworks are corrupted?

.net Framework 3.5 Corrupt Software

Microsoft updates done by me manually. "These updates failed to install:  update to .net framework 3. 5 service pack 1 for the .net framework assistant 1. 0 x86 (kb963707)" reading all the .net complaints on this forum gives me one gigantic headache. First of all, these .net frameworks seem to be a necessity in order to view/surf the web. I never did anything to alter my .net frame work, and actually didn't even know it existed until one day, i started getting errors along with my ms automatic updates. Would this not indicate that ms has created software that has a flaw in it?  Seeing as how i never did a thing in the world to alter this function in my pc.

Disgusted that the expectation is that we consumers need to clean up ms' corrupted software. I think a more appropriate expectation would be that ms needs to fix their own corrupted software, and while your at it, have an auto-update tool that fixes it for us at the same time security updates are downloaded. I don't have the time or patience to fix problems like this that i had no part in creating. If you have an ms representative in my community, i would like them to come out and see my pc and fix this for me.

I have continually tried to use all of the steps advised, to no avail. They all fail. Something needs to be done about this, otherwise this is the equivalent of fringing on being reported to the bbb in regards to offering a reasonable solution to a problem that exists with ms products not delivering the intended service to the consumer. Not only is the software corrupt, but it uses a ton of memory and has degraded the functions of everyday use of my pc.

Error 1335 - File Corrupt

I recently installed windows 7 on my new custom built machine about a week ago. I came across a problem when i tried to install a game [crysis] the error occurred when the installation began to copy the files and install the game. This particular game is using . Cab files to install the software. I receive an error at the beginning of the installation, "error 1335 - file . Is corrupt etc. The file is there and working. I tried to install other software such as photoshop and various other games. Fter searching the net i believe the problem is directed at the windows installer.

Another solution i have found is that it could be down to the ram. I ran a memory diagnostic which did find a problem. I wish to know whether there is an actual solution to fix the problem or if i will have to buy another ram. Methods i have tried;

1. Using msiexec /unregister and a couple other commands but am unsure if they did anything. 2. Tried to install the software off the hard drive 3. Ran a registry cleaner, disk clean up and defrag. They are the methods i can remember off the top of my head. Ny guidance or possible fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Unable To Download File Is Corrupt

I am having problems downloading any kind of update for my laptop. The updates i am talking about are for windows, norton, etc. I am not a crazy downloader. It will start the update and then a message will pop up saying the update was unable to be completed because files are corrupt. The techs at norton were finally able to get the updates to take but they  had to have publisher had to show up as unknown. In addition to that from time to time the webpages will obscure and all mixed up. Any clue on how to fix this?I hope this makes sense, my husband is the one that handles all the computer issues and he is deployed so i am doing my best.

Random Corrupt Login Error

Occasionally and more frequently, login will not work properly. I am a genuine 64-bit windows 7 user, and i love the system, but unfortunately i have been running into a recurring problem. I'm sorry that this does not have any specific error messages (i didn't think ahead, and it's not happening now), but these are the symptoms:

- On boot, i get to the login screen just fine, i enter my credentials.

- It says welcome, and then something like "loading your desktop".

- It says something about a corrupted login, then puts me into either:

- A) some weird half-breed of windows 95 and 7, where icons still resemble windows 7, but the taskbar and explorers are grey

- B) this last time, i was logged into a temporary account

- Edit: when i shut down, there is some weird audio feedback

- From then on, if try to log in, an error message about login or profile data not found.

- I usually just restore to an earlier image, and it will work fine.

Unfortunately, this has become more frequent, and i'm wondering what is the culprit. If it is impossible to grasp the situation without further information, i will try to get it. Past searches suggested it was something about the registry.

Error Codes & Corrupt Files

I am having problems with installing updates and software onto my laptop: -

Windows update, i get error code 80200053, microsoft security essentials updates, i get error code 0x80240022 (this is a new install but haven't been able to run as unable to update with any definitions) windows live messenger and mail installation, i get error code hr:0x8007000d

I restored my laptop to factory default but the problem hasn't been fixed. I am still having the same problems but also, i am unable to download programs like java or avg (before i tried mse), i get messages either relating to corrupt files or unknown publishers/certificates. I have been having these problems for over a week now, in fact both my laptop and my partners desktop are having the same problems.

Having spent hours searching these forums, i found another user who appears to be having the same problems as me and followed the solution provided i.e. Disk cleanup; sfc.exe and then checkdisk but the problems haven't been resolved. The log file from the sfc.exe suggested that some corrupted files couldn't be repaired and i have looked at the results but to be honest i haven't got a clue what to do about this. The checkdisk result came back clean though.

We have managed to obtain a copy of avg from a cd and run a full scan on both the laptop and desktop and no virus' were detected. The only items listed were tracking cookies which have been deleted or repaired and 2 items on my laptop advising broken digital certificates.

Can you please help me with this, i don't know what else to do to fix this problem?
