Network Unstable

1. Windows 7 unable to see other windows although all are set to the same network. But manually typing the computer name on the browser is ok. Its unstable, sometimes can see but most of the time you cant.

2. Printer xerox phaser 3124 connected to win7 x64 & shared out among users. Whenever other win7 prints, after 1 print out it shows off-line. Then we need to go to print spooler to restart but this doesn't happen to other windows.

Roxio Intermittent Interruption - Cd Drive Unstable

With factory installed windows 7 and roxio 1. 01, when a cd is playing, clicking on the roxio icon causes the music to be intermittently interrupted and the cd drive to go unstable. New dell studio 1555 with factory installed windows 7 and roxio 1. 0. With roxio, when a cd is inserted into the cd drive on the laptop, the roxio icon automatically appears on the desktop, the cd play window appears on the desktop and the cd begins playing.

A click on the roxio icon causes intermittent interruption of the music (about 0. 5 second alternating surges of music and silence. The cd drive sounds like it is switching between speeds at the same rate. Roxio does not open. I downloaded update r226903 for the roxio from dell website. Any fixes?

Disappearing Drives, Unstable Boot Up Process

I've been using the windows 7 on my old asus desktop for a few months without a glitch until recently when the hard drives started disappearing by themselves or freeze after copying large files from the external hd and crashed. I reinstall the windows 7 few times, all of the oldie drivers that came with the pc, and the os updates nothing seem to help.

My pc is set to the s3 mode and three of the four internal hard drives are 1tb in sizes and they are all sata drives. I have a cd drive that is on the pata and it doesn't seem to cause any trouble. When the hard drives went to sleep, they woke up without any problem in the past.

When it was fresh installed a few months back, the windows 7 os was already providing all that was needed to run the pc to communicate with the rest of the internal hard drives for a few months without a single problem. I did use the drivers that came with the pc only to solve the problems but the symptions are persistent. I've been downloading microsoft updates regularly from the ms site so my pc is up to date as far as the os is concern and i wonder if the newer updates are to blame.

The moment the pc is booted up, "my computer" icon would show one or two, sometimes all three hard drives (excluding the main c drive) and when one of the troublesome hard drive is clicked to open, the pc would hang indefinitely. Only shutting down the pc completely (not resetting) would allow the boot up process to continue back but often the pc wouldn't boot up but frozen up on the big windows 7 ms icon at the beginning of the boot process indefinitely. If it was the hard drives problem, one or two, even all three drives wouldn't disappear randomly.

Alternative To Windows Networking - Unstable Printer Sharing

I've been using windows 7 for a month now on one pc. I have a home network for other pc's running winxp service pack 3. I am a very frustrated windows 7 user. My network is unstable, printer sharing is iffy at best and i have to hold my breath whenever i try to use a shared file. Previously, with an all xp network, my network was flawless for years at a time. I've been following advice on the forum trying to troubleshoot the problem, but i have a day job and can't spend all my time booting this and that and trying different combinations of things. My question:

Is there a reliable alternative to windows networking. I have trivial requirements - to use a printer physically connected to one of the xp machines and to do simple file sharing across the network. I am even considering buying a copy of windows xp and doing a clean install on the machine running windows 7, but this would be days and days of work. Any insights for a frustrated windows 7 user?

Mapping Network Drives On A Home Network Issue

I have two pc on my home network, one is a desktop running window 2000, attached to this is an external hard drive. The second is a laptop running windows 7. Before i upgraded to windows 7 i was running window vista on the laptop. When i had window vista on my laptop i was able to map a network drive to both the desktop's hard-drive and also to the external hard drive attached to the desktop.

After upgrading to windows 7 when i try to access the desktop or map the external hard drive i'm asked for a domain password. When i enter the user id and password of the desktop i keep getting the request for my domain password. I don't remember setting up a domain password at the time of the windows 7 upgrade.

Network Name

Running windows 7 home prem 32bit i just replaced my wireless router. I have 4 pc's connected in my network; 2 ethernet; 2 wireless. Prior to this change out when i placed my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbar of all pc's. All showed "banker".

When i started up the new router. The select a location window appeared on all pc's. I selected "home network". I had to do this on all pc's. All my connections are fine to all pc's. However, now when i place my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbars. I see on 1 pc. "Network 4", another pc shows "home 2". None of the pc's show the same.

I opened network and sharing center on one of my pc's; selected change adapter settings. I see the network . Its displayed as "local area connection" next line it displays network 4. And the next line my network card model is shown. If i right click, select rename. What is showing that can be renamed is local area connection. I want to change "network 4" to banker (which is was prior to changing my router). How do i do this?

Network Xp With 7

I get my new windows 7 laptop to recognize two other xp computers on the network. I have tried following the common workgroup advice, setting security to allow access and basic windows trouble shooting suggestions, but nothing seems to work. Sometimes all computers appear in the network window, but when i click on them to access, win 7 tells me it can't find them. Other times the xp computers don't even appear in the network window (seems to be random without me making any changes).

Is there any easy to follow instructions to get xp and 7 to network and give me the ability to share files and printers? I've tried doing this with w7 pc attached through wireless and hard wired network. Still had no luck. Can anyone help?

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

Home Network

I was connected to a home network by ethernet cable that worked fine. I purchased a new computer with windows 7 for my main computer and am now using my ex-main computer as the second computer in the network which has windows xp as the os. I connected the ethernet cable but cannot make a connection or be recognized by my new computer. The connection goes to a westtell router.
On the my ex-main computer i get a "dial up connection" message box. I have tired to re-progam the network and used the in computer repair and diagnostic tools. Internet works fine on the new computer.

Network Password

Have networked a new windows 7 system to linux.network looks good, but when trying to share files i get a prompt for a network password. When setting up, the software generated a ten digit network password. The system now does not recognize the password it generated. When i view in the vault i noticed that it is expecting an eight digit password? Why does it generate this password in the first place if i am an administrator? If i want one i will slot it in myself surely. Am not a regular windows user and i now remember why!

Network Issues

Home network includes 3 pc's, 1 desktop (hard wired; windows7 home prem 32), laptop (wireless, vista home prem 32) and 1 laptop (wireless, windows 7 starter 32). All pc's are set to private-home.

When i go to network & sharing on my laptops. And click map network. It never shows all the powered on devices. For instance, when i map from the laptop's it shows "the following discovered devices cannot be placed in the map. Click here to see all other devices. " My desktop appears under this. When i click see all other devices it shows the desktop.

Why don't i see my powered on pc's in mapping. What setting must i change, what must i do. All pc's have network discovery on, as well as file sharing on.

The so called network printer can be added on the laptop in the add printer wizard. The host machine has the 64 bit drivers installed for the windows 7 laptop.could it be a port issue? What port should the laptop have assigned to connect to the printer attached to the host machine on the network?

Creating A Network

I am having difficulties getting a network set up on my windows 7 laptop. I have a verizon pcmcia card for internet access and i would like to set up a network to allow my ipos and my blu-ray player to get internet access. I have gone through the setup wizard and created a network that allows access, but nothing is connecting to the computer. When i look at the status of the network, it says "waiting on users" and the devices trying to connect just time out without connecting. Everything is turned on (modem card and wi-fi )

Unidentified Network

I have recently installed ms office from disk onto my laptop (running win 7) and mcafee onto my desktop (running xp). At the same time i have lost access to the internet on my laptop.

The machine is seeing the network and has passwords etc all correct, but appears to be blocking my access as it cannot recognize it. The desktop is still gaining access as is my ipod touch and wii so i know i have a wireless network available.

When i go into network and sharing centre the system cannot show the full map as the network's location type is public. I cannot work out how to change this. I have tried to disconnect the wlan connection and reconnect without success.

No Network Detected

I recently installed windows 7 on a brand new hard drive and it went fine. However, when i try to connect to the internet, nothing happens. I have downloaded the correct driver, i think, but it still doesn't work. In fact, windows doesn't even recognize my home network. There are no devices listed under device manager. I actually just got my pc back from the geek squad. They "fixed" the problem i brought it in for, but they forgot to plug my hard drive into my motherboard. I had to do that.could an unplugged cable to my network adapter be the issue? If so, what am i looking for?

Network Discovery

I can not communicate with anything on my network except the internet. All other computers are running xp and work fine. My laptop is running windows 7 and won't work with any of my network devices. I have repeatedly gone into network and sharing center advanced settings and changed network discovery to on then check it a few seconds later and it is off. I have mcafee virus protection and have checked the settings there. All the devices show up there and everything seems to be set right. The network worked for about 2 weeks after i got the computer all be it not well but usually a restart would fix the problem. But now nothing. Any ideas?

How To Logout From Network Pc?

I have a linux server running, with samba file sharing. This way people can connect to the server from their windows pc's and see whatever they account allows them to see. Thought now we also have a public pc from witch different people connect to the samba server. The problem with this last one is, that different people should login with different accounts to see what they are allowed to see.

But, windows remembers the credentials and logs on automatically without having the option to login with a different account. I was wondering if it is possible in windows 7 (and if anyone knows, in windows xp too) how to logout from this samba server? I'm sure windows stores the login information somewhere, so removing that information would be enough to let windows popup for new login information, right?

No Network Connections

I just upgraded a laptop running vista home premium 64 to windows 7 and now that laptop has lost all ability to connect to any networks, wireless and wired. I've tried a different router and a modem to no avail. The laptop is able to detect the wireless network, how ever it keeps trying to reconfigure it, which is not what i intend to do, how is it possible for me to solve this problem without doing so?

Oh, and one of the error messages that i get is the infamous "wireless network adapter does not have a valid ip config". Anyone else find microsoft should stop suggesting to search for solutions online or through remote access when you can't connect to the internet?

Xp Network Problem

I have four computers on my home network. One is xp home, one is xp pro 32 bit, one is windows 7 32 pro and the other is running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Prior to installing the win32 pro my computer was running xp home with not one connection issue. Now the windows 7 computers can connect with all computers on the network. The xp computers can connect to only the xp computers. The win 7 computers can share printers , but not with the xp computers. I was told that it would be a breeze to set up this network, just follow the prompts and away you go.

Will 20 hours later i have been up the stairs and down again countless times. I have spent hours on the phone with my so called support at hp. Is there a way to get the xp computers to be able to connect to the windows 7 ones. I have spent hours trying. All are in the same workgroup (named workgroup) file sharing is on, network discovery is on, public folder sharing is on. Password support is now off. (Been on and off) windows manages the access. (Tried it both ways) both xp computers are sp3.

All drives and printers are set to sharing with full control. All i get when i try to access an xp computer is an error message telling me to see the account administrator (that would be me)? Why does microsoft not provide a quick easy work around for this. I cannot contact them and hp is useless. Everyone wants $99. 00 to fix a problem they advertise does not exist.

Not Able To Network Two Win 7

I have two pc's both running windows 7 and i am unable to create a network. They both connect through a bt home hub to the internet ok, one wirelessly and the other through an ethernet cable. I firstly tried to set up a homegroup but without success. This is supposed to be easy according to the literature but i have not found it so. Various odd things happen - eg when i try to connect through the homegroup i am told there are no other homegroup computers available. I have ensured the workgroup names are the same and the computers have different names and that they are both on a home network. I have now given up that idea.

So then i tried to network the two computers via the network option. When i click on the computer name from either of the two pc's i get the following message in an 'open folder' dialog box:  (the computer name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource.contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank passwords not allowed, logon hour restrictions or a policy restriction has been enforced. I have not set up user accounts or passwords on either computer. It was so much easier with windows xp. I had three computers networked effortlessly with things like printer sharing happening almost automatically.

I did follow microsoft directions to enable sbs 2003 to see windows 7 and put the windows 7 machine on the network.
