Problems Of Sharing Network Printer Xp Pc With Win 7

Problems of sharing a network printer that is already installed on an a windows xp home edition desktop pc with a windows 7 pro laptop. ° Have an epson aculaser c1100 printer which is already installed on a windows xp home edition pc. ° Am using an wireless network connection. I was using a windows xp home ed. Laptop and sharing the printer without any problem but when i changed my computer which uses windows 7 pro. I couldn't use the printer.

I tried the cd that was given by epson but it freezes (i think its not compatible with windows 7), when i use direct connection with usb, i can use the printer without any problem. As i controlled out my network i can see the computer and the printer easily but couldn't use it. When i tried to download the windows 7 compatible driver for epson printer i saw that there is not any driver for windows 7.

Home Network / File Printer Sharing With Win 7 And Xp

I have 3 machines on my home network. #1 is a new windows 7 64 bit (ultimate); #2 is an upgraded windows 7 32 bit (pro), and #3 is a xp machine. I am able to get #1 and #2 on the home network, but #3 is giving me trouble. I need to be able to share files at a minimum, and ideally printer too.

Sharing Wireless Network Between Win 7, Xp, Wireless Printer

I had no trouble sharing my wireless network when the desktop was xp and the laptop was xp. Since replacing the desktop with a new windows 7 unit, i cannot manage to set up a network. I just purchased a new wireless printer, and i cannot set it up wirelessly either. I can network the printer to work with the win7 desktop if i connect the printer to my router with a ethernet cable. My router sees all 3 devices and i can ping the printer and the laptop from the desktop. The desktop is connected to the router via ethernet cable.

File Sharing Network Issues

I have three computers running on my network. 2 computer have windows 7 ultimate 64bit and 1 has windows vista ultimate 32bit. One of the computers is wireless (windows 7) the other 2 are wired. When i first turn on my wireless computer i have full internet and file sharing connections. I continue to have full connections until about about a half hour or until i lock that computer. Then when i start to use that computer again i have internet connections but my file sharing connections are messed up. I only can share files with the windows vista computer. When i try to access and share files with the other windows 7 computer it says windows cannot access.

I try and click diagnose but it cannot find anything wrong with it. Can anyone help me find out what is wrong with this? The only other way i can start to share files with both computers is to either restart my computer or go into computer management disable and then re enable my network card (that seems to work most of the time). My router and wireless card are only about a year and a half old. It is a linksys speed booster brand. Wrt54gs i think.

Sharing Two Machines In One Network, Xp And Win 7

Sharing two machines in one network, xp and win7, can't access to the xp files from the 7 machine. I have two computers, one is connected to wlan router directly, and the other one is a laptop. I set them to the same workgroup, enabled sharing and everything, and i can access to the win7 files from the xp using password. But, when i try from my laptop (with win7 installed) i can't see any computer connected, so i can't access to the xp files. When i type "net view" in command prompt, i get error 53, "the network path was not found".

In other location, when i connect my laptop to a lan using a cable, i can access to the lan's internet, but not to it's network folders. My laptop has windows 7 ultimate 64 bit installed

Media Player Network Sharing Service

After upgrading to a larger hard drive i reconnected my xbox 360 to my home network and began re-sharing my media on my main computer to it. I don't leave it hooked up all the time because the cable has to stretch across the floor. The odd thing this time is, i came in to use my computer the next day and it was slow, very slow. When i looked at the gadgets it showed my ram usage as 94-97%!

When i started up the task manager and had it show all processes, the windows media player network sharing service was eating up that much ram. I shut it down and within minutes it had started up again and began eating ram like it was candy. It only took it about 3 minutes to once again eat up nearly all 3gig of memory. I have to  go in and shut it down manually at least 3 times a day.

Network & Sharing Center / See Full Map

When i use the "see full map" in the network & sharing center it works fine and shows my pc connected to my switch then to the gateway to the internet, but after the machine has been to sleep and been wakened the map shows a question mark between my pc and the switch? The question mark is labeled "unknown".

Thinking this could be some sort of trojan i have scanned my pc with all of the usual virus detectors and malware detectors but nothing shows. If i do a reboot the map resets to what i expect, but if the machine goes to sleep or hibernate the question mark re-appears. I am using windows 7 home premium.

Network Folder Sharing And Port Opening

My network is like this: laptop -> f-secure firewall of the laptop -> ~wireless~ -> desktop -> windows firewall of the desktop -> internet

The ports are opened in both my and desktops firewalls (i reinstalled windows yesterday - before it was working perfectly. ). Even tried turning my laptop's firewall off - no help.connection cannot be made through the ports.

And another problem: the shared network cannot be seen (though i have the internet access). My laptop cannot see the desktops folder (could see before the installation) and my desktop cannot see my laptop's. Tried going through everything in windows explorer (folder sharing) and control panel (network, system (this one to change the work-group)).

Media Player Network Sharing Services Issue

Right after i go on line media player network services grabs 2gb of memory and 70 percent of the cpu usage, and the hard drive usage light comes on solid - this makes using the internet almost impossible since the clock is on for several minutes at a time - this computer is only used by two 'users' and only has a limited amount of stored music, no videos or tv shows - how can i shut off the service - or restrict it's ability to consume resources. This is an acer aspire 5532 with 3gb memory and a 160g hdd.

Printer Sharing

I have upgraded a machine to win7 - it has the printer connected by usd. My main machine is still vista ultimate so i have not yet been able to use homegroup. The vista machine can see the win7 (its part of the workgroup) and i can access all users and files (interestingly though in explorer i have 2 instances of this pc showing?)

In explorer i see a printers folder but nothing in it. Under network and sharing i see my canon printer too. However when i click it i get error 0x00000709. I have tried to follow the instructions on another post but they are all about adding an xp machine not a vista machine.

Homegroup Printer Sharing

I run two machines in my office - one a laptop the other a sun workstation. The laptop has windows 7 home edition installed the sun workstation windows 7 pro'. I have setup successfully a home group on both machines i have both visible on each machine. I can share files on both machines.

I have two printers - hp1300 laserjet1300 & epson styles dx 4800 series installed on the sun system
They both work there very well via the usb ports. The problem is that i cannot get the laptop to configure these printers - even though it sees them. I think it appears to be a question of access & permissions, not that sure. At any rate when i attempt to install the network printer it always fails to find a driver - no amount of manual direction from me can overcome its very stubborn resistance to demands. It can also not find the path or even the printer.

Messages i get are :

Windows cannot access \(computername)cwindowssystem32spoolprinters
You do not have permission to access (above path) contact your network administrator
To request permissions

When i select a printer when both are listed as choice on install a network printer option, both listed with their correct computer & share names. I have even tried trying to install them as local printers and manually selecting a local port in order to for a connection, but always i get an error message saying incorrect share names etc. I have no experience of administration rights or allowable permissions, must be the problem. Everything is ticked as allowed in homegroup setup. The printers are annotated as sharing allowed. I am stumped any ideas you out there ?

Printer Sharing Through Xp To Win7

Alright, here's what i have:

- Desktop 1 - windows 7 64x bit: there is now printer device on this computer.
- Laptop 1 - windows xp 32x bit: there is a printer connected to this computer through a specific printer port. (This is an older printer).
- Laptop 2 - windows vista 64x bit: there is a newerd, usb port printer connected to this computer.

All these computers are connected to the same network, however, the laptops are connected to my router wirelessly, while my destop is connected through an ethernet cat 5 cable.

Here's my problem. I'm having trouble finding a way to share both these printers (from laptop 1 and 2) with my windows 7 computer. I've tried almost everything. There has to be a way for me to connect both these printers to this computer. Here's what i've done so far:

I went to "devices and printers" >> "add a printer", i found the printer on laptop 1, but i was unable to find the printer on laptop 2. I setup the printer from laptop 1, and it said it installed the drivers, but when i try printing something, nothing happens. There's one problem. Like i mentioned before, i was unable to find the newer printer from laptop 2. I tried typing in the computer name, and searching for it manually, and still, nothing comes up.

Sharing Printer Problem Between Win 7 & Xp

Problem with sharing printer between windows 7 & and windows xp. I have a hp 1150 laser printer that is connected to my windows 7 (home premium 64bit) computer by usb. I want to share it with another pc running xp pro (sp3), but can't find a suitable printer driver. I have read the thread about sharing printers, and have carried out most of the steps.

My problem is that although i can see the printer from the xp machine, it requires a suitable driver. I had previously installed the hp drivers and the printer works fine by direct usb connection to the xp machine, but it appears i need an appropriate driver installed on the w7 machine as well - and i can't seem to find one that works. Any ideas what to do ?

Printer Sharing Between Win7 Host And Xp

Printer sharing between windows 7 (printer host) and windows xp. (Additional drivers problem). I have my canon pixma ip4000 installed and working on a windows 7 (x64) machine, furthermore i have a laptop running windows xp (x86). The two pcs find each other in the 'workgroup' and the printer is visible from the windows xp machine as well.

I 2xclick the printer in 'workgroup' and it wants to find the proper driver (x86) to install to the machine. On the windows 7 machine i have to have the driver for the xp machine to find and install. - So i go to the sharing properties of the printer and click the 'additional drivers' button which lets me choose between 3 things; itanium (type 3 - user mode), x64 (installed) and finally x86 which is the one i of course need for it to work with xp x86.

I go and download the canon driver for windows xp x86, and try to add it via the 'additional driver' option, i find the proper '. Inf' from the newly downloaded folder and click ok.

But this message follows: "the specified location does not contain the driver canon inkjet pixma ip4000 for the requested processor architecture. " - Even though i know its the right driver.

How do i solve this issue? Nb: i tried having the driver on the laptop and via the 'workgroup' adding the printer, but it wont work either.

Printer Sharing Vista To Win7

There are 5 computers in the network 2 are windows 7 the rest vista, the network is over a netgear wgr614 the host is a windows 7 machine, file sharing is working well on all machines  sharing is turned on for all machines and password protected sharing is off. Sharing of a printer connected to the other windows 7 machine works fine for all machines.connecting the vista machines to a printer on a vista machine works.

However when i try to connect the windows 7 machines to the vista machine printer i get the connection window running for a long time (30-40 minutes ) and then get the message "can't connect to the printer". Trying to install the printer as a local port with thecomputer printer as the port returns "access denied" the printers are the same model brother mfc-9440 so the driver is already on all machines. I have read the other posts on problems like mine and it appears i have tried all suggested remedies. I have not disabled firewalls but they are all using the windows firewall, could their be a problem sharing from vista to windows 7 ?

Sharing Printer In Win 7 And Vista

I have a laptop with a full install of windows 7, not an upgrade. The machine i am using as a print server has vista home. All the other computers that are on the network, whether they are vista or xp, have access the printer. I am the only one who has a problem. When i installed the network printer on my win 7 machine, part of the install process was printing a test page, which worked fine. That was the last document printed from the win 7 machine (on the network).

I followed the instructions found at: http://www.Howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/. After 15 minutes of work, i have the same problem. To be clear, my win 7 machine is networked with a vista machine, which has the printer connected to it. I see the printer on the win 7 machine, the drivers are installed, and others on the network have no problem printing.

The File And Printer Sharing (smb) Problem

The device or resource (pc name) is not setup to accept connections on port "the file and printer sharing (smb)". Long enough i have suffered with this problem, hopefully this will be the place that is able to solve it. A while ago, when i installed windows 7, the file sharing feature just worked fine. Thought since a month, maybe 2 its not working at all. I have 2 pc's. One laptop with windows xp 64-bit, one main pc with windows 7 64-bit (windows 7 ultimate n build 7600).

The problem: i have file sharing turned on, thought i cannot access the desktop pc from my laptop. (Not by name nor ip address). On the desktop pc itself, i cannot look into the shared files (which are on the same pc!). The ironical part of this is that is does show what files are shared (and this updates correctly) thought it wont show the content. Also the desktop pc cannot see any other pc on the network, thought they all have the same workgroup. The laptop is able to see and access other windows xp pc's who are in the same network, but not the desktop (windows 7) pc.

Some tests i did:
#1 from my laptop i can ping to my desktop.
#2 from my desktop i can ping to my laptop.
#3 i uninstalled northon ghost (even with the removal tool), no changes.
#4 i turned off eset nod32, windows firewall and windows defender, no changes.
#5 i uninstalled the drivers of my network card and reinstalled them, no changes.
#6 i checked if the serveces started that might have something to do with this:
-> "Computer browsing" -> started
-> "Ssdp discovery" -> started
-> "Tcp/ip netbios helper" -> started
-> "Server" -> started

#7 when i turn on network discovery, it will automatically go back to "off". (I used to be able, when all worked, to turn this on!)

#8 set pc back to a restore point 20 days ago (this unfortunately was the earliest i could find, thought even on that date i had problems. )
Change sharing options for different network profiles is configured as following:
Home & work (current profile)
Turn off network discovery (! I cant turn this on !)
Turn on file and printer sharing
Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write.
Media streaming is off (also with "on", no changes)
Use 128-bit encryption to help. (Also with "40- or 56-bit", no changes.
Allow windows to manage homegroup connections
Errors:
#1 when i open network, it shows my desktop pc only in the list. (I used to have all the pc's in the list)
#2 when i click my desktop pc's name, it shows which folders are shared: "some folder" & "users" are shared.
#3 when i click eighter of these folders i get the notification: "windows cannot access jeffreyusers"
#4 when i click "diagnose" it shows: "the remote device or resource won't accept the connection" and "the device or resource (jeffrey) is not set up to accept connections on port "the file and printer sharing (smb)". "

Solution: the problem is caused by a corrupted file.

The dns client and the dhcp client rely on 3 processes in windows 7: "nsi, tdx and afd" (can be found in the registry, see 2nd post of mine for location). If the dhcp client wont start, it might be, because of one of these files. By entering the command: "net start nsi"  (and tdx, and adf) you can find out if they work or not. In my case the tdx process wouldn't start.

Using shinmila h. 2nd post, you can find out if the file is corrupted, and replace them with a non corrupted one. In my case the tdx.sys file was totally empty, and following the tutorial of shinmila h. 2nd post link, i was able to replace the file, with a file of my friend. (I couldn't find it on the installation dvd).

Once the file has been replaced, the service would start normally again. (Manually, or automatically on restart) who knows what i have to do, to make windows sharing possible again, between a windows 7 and a windows xp pc.

Usb Epson Rx620 Printer Sharing

I've got w7 x86 installed with a usb epson rx620 working great. The pc i'm trying to share the printer with is vista ultimate x64. When i search the network for the printer, find it, select it, i get a message about "the server does not have the right driver".

So, i came here and i followed these really great, detailed steps to set up sharing to other pcs on my home network: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/gettingreadyforwindows7/thread/88b53ce6-b613-4e05-8da3-00e40c2d612b

When i get to the part in these instructions that allows you to add additional drivers, the x86 are already present, the x64 are not. As expected. When i select to add the x64 drivers (presumably the ones that the vista x64 machine is requesting), i get prompted to select the location of the the driver. Hence the problem. Everything i can find on epson's site and ms sites say that "vista drivers get automatically downloaded and installed".

I can't find anywhere the driver to just download and then use. Can anyone suggest a work around for this?

Alternative To Windows Networking - Unstable Printer Sharing

I've been using windows 7 for a month now on one pc. I have a home network for other pc's running winxp service pack 3. I am a very frustrated windows 7 user. My network is unstable, printer sharing is iffy at best and i have to hold my breath whenever i try to use a shared file. Previously, with an all xp network, my network was flawless for years at a time. I've been following advice on the forum trying to troubleshoot the problem, but i have a day job and can't spend all my time booting this and that and trying different combinations of things. My question:

Is there a reliable alternative to windows networking. I have trivial requirements - to use a printer physically connected to one of the xp machines and to do simple file sharing across the network. I am even considering buying a copy of windows xp and doing a clean install on the machine running windows 7, but this would be days and days of work. Any insights for a frustrated windows 7 user?

Sharing Printer With Linux Box Connected To Win 7 Pc Using Crossover Cable

How do i share a printer with a linux box connected to my windows 7 pc using a crossoevr cable? I have what seems to be a blockage since i upgraded my winxp pc to windows 7. Prior to the upgrade i had a successful connection using a crossover cable such that printing was achieved from a linux mintv6 installation to a canon ip4000 printer - usb connected to my winxp pc. Since the upgrade, each of the two pc's can 'see' each other, can be pinged ok but all attempts to set up a print path fail as i'm asked for a user name and password on the linux box and despite trying all combinations that may be valid [i think] i cannot establish a print path. Any ideas or do i seek help from the linux community? It used to work and the main 'change is that to windows 7
