Cannot Re-activate After Motherboard Replacement

My motherboard on my hp pavilion tx2032au was recently changed after became damaged. It was replace with same make and model by hp service center. Prior to the replacement i have replaced the oem vista with windows 7 home basic. I've done the activation and the software is genuine. Most of the drivers for hardware have been updated accordingly and the pc works fine before the motherboard replacement.

After replacing the motherboard windows 7 says my activation period has expired. I found several information over the internet that windows will need to be re-activated after certain hardware changes. My question is, will reinstalling windows 7 again solve the activation problem? If not what should i do?

Motherboard Replacement

I need to replace my motherboard/processor/memory soon and was wondering if i am going to have to do a complete reinstall of windows 7 or can i just do a "repair" after replacing the hardware? I have searched everywhere i can think of on the web and can't ge a definitive answer. Currently i have a dell pentium d running windows 7 with 4g memory but since eventually the pentium d will be obsolete (eventually? Like last year!) I want to upgrade to a phenomii or i7 processor. I remember trying to do this with windows 98 and xp (and it was a major pain for both) so i wanted to know what i would be in for with windows 7.

Activation After Motherboard Replacement

This is a long, involved question. I will try to minimize the verbiage. A friend of mine had the motherboard on his acer computer go out. I am replacing the proprietary acer m/b with a retail (asus) motherboard, because the acer m/b cannot be purchased. The machine came with vista home 64 bit pre-installed. As recommended by microsoft , my friend upgraded via download to win 7 home32 bit. He did not get a cd/dvd. Two questions:

1-we will try to start the system with the existing hard drive, but it probably won't start because of the different drivers needed. If, however, it does start, and the drivers can be updated, will we be able to reactivate windows? The motherboard has to be replaced, and an identical m/b is impossible to acquire.

2- is it possible for him to get a cd/dvd of his upgrade now, and can that be used to do either a repair or a clean install, and, if either is possible, will he be able to reactivate windows?

Can't Activate After Motherboard Change

After my old motherboard died i bought another one (different model and chipset, amd 785g to 880g) and reinstalled windows 7 (clean installation over existing one, didn't format over). It always installed flawlessly and haven't had any problems before, but now i can't activate my retail copy of win7 home premium. Attempting to activate results in a error code 0xc004c008 (the activation server determined that the specified key could not be used. )I'm aware that after some hardware changes a reactivation would be necessary, but it doesn't let me do it.

Install Upgrade / Activate - Do I Have To Activate Win 7?

I recently ordered windows 7 off amazon because i was running a test version of windows 7 ultimate i believe and the test run was going to be up soon. I ordered a version of windows 7 home.

When the version i have tried to activate today it said my key wouldn't allow it because the version i had was an upgrade version. I being not so savvy with computers didn't realize there was a difference. It told to me to install an older version of windows and reinstall but i don't have an older version. I was wondering if it's needed to activate your copy or if it's just as a safety measure for the customer?

Disc Replacement

When windows 7 first released, i purchased a digital copy from company called digital river through microsoft which was made for college students for $29. 99 (after providing my college information to verify i was a student). It was an upgrade version and i upgraded from windows vista business 64-bit to windows 7 professional 64-bit.

Well i would like to do a fresh install for windows 7, but i don't have a disc. I am posting here to ask if i qualify to purchase a disc replacement purchase or something of that sort or if i can even do a fresh install with my version of windows 7 because 1) i don't even know if it is possible with the version of windows 7 i purchased, or 2) if i am even able to get a disc for it.

In the past, my windows vista was also a digital purchase through my it class in high school. I was directed from the microsoft forums to a microsoft site where i could order a replacement windows vista disc for $10. I was just wondering if such a place existed for windows 7 discs. ?

Also if i am not allowed to purchase a new disc or even do a fresh install with the upgrade version of windows 7, can you recommend what i should do if i want a fresh install of windows 7?

Just as a note, the reason i am asking this is because my computer is performing very slowly and i am guessing it has to do with the upgrade since most of the time when installing an os, you are supposed to do it from scratch with a clean hdd and when i did my upgrade, it was on a half full probably fragmented hdd (since at the time of installation i hadn't run my weekly defragment yet). I know it isn't my computer itself because i exceed the requirements by a longshot (q9550, 4gb of ddr2 1000, gtx 260).

Recovering Upgrade After Laptop Replacement

I bought a laptop from bestbuy with windows 7 home premium and used the upgrade anytime online to bring it to professional. The laptop completely melted down and they had to replace it, including the hard drive and os. I now have the same machine, brand new but with home premium. The old machine is no longer in use and has gone back to hp and will most likely be wiped or junked. How do i get my upgrade anytime that i paid for applied to the new laptop? To have to pay for it again seems grossly unfair.

Win 7 Activate

I have bought windows 7 professional. I'm i correct in understanding that i am only entitled to install this on one computer only? I have three laptops, one had vista home which now has a successful windows 7 installation, the second had xp but now has windows 7 but keeps telling me that the activation has failed as this product is installed on another computer. The third still has xp. Please clarify, do i need three separate products or is there a way i can obtain further activation keys.

Cannot Activate Upgrade

I recently got a new laptop. I installed my windows 7 upgrade kit on it. The problem is the computer was defective and i had to return in for a new computer. I now cannot activate my windows 7 upgrade on the new laptop as this is the second computer the key is being used for. The first computer has been returned, how do i activate this copy for this new laptop?

I know the issue is one license for one computer, but that is all i am using it for. The other computer has been sent back to the company as defective.

Can't Activate Properly

I bought a toshiba netbook with windows 7 starter. I also bought a copy of windows 7 home premium online through the special student deal they were running a while back.

Then my computer was stolen. I reported the theft and registered the computer serial number as stolen. I had to buy a new one and then i upgraded the new one to home premium. Now it is prompting me to activate, and it is encountering an error "this key can not be used for clean installs, only for upgrades". But it is an upgrade.

Is there some place for me to report to microsoft that the original copy on the original computer is no good, and it is this computer that will be using the legal copy? I don't want to have to buy a whole new windows 7, i am already out $500 from the theft and the student deal is over so now it would be another $100 for a new key if the issue can't be fixed.

I recently purchased a samsung n140 with w7 starter edition, after a week i used the online upgrade to install the home premium edition, which installed with no problems. The problem i have is the netbook came with a restore partition, so if i have to do a complete restore, it will take me back to the starter edition. Part from using acronis to be able to restore the home premium edition, is there any other way, i have the upgrade key written down, but do not know if i could upgrade again from a fresh starter edition reinstall. Ny advice would be welcome.

Activate Upgrade With New Key

I purchased a genuine windows 7 upgrade disc for dell pc. Installed it and activated the product. Went with clean start, used home premium 64 bit. Then i installed the same disc as an upgrade on this pc which is my hp laptop. Install worked took 4 hours. Then when i tried to activate the product, it said invalid activation code or key. I didn't know that the key was good for only one pc. I have located a new genuine windows 7 upgrade key for sale and want to use it to activate my product on this pc. Will i have to re-install the disc and possibly loose my programs, or can i just use the new key to activate what i already upgraded on this laptop. Please advise me as to how i can solve this issue with the least amount of time and pain. Thanks for your help. Tony

Cannot Activate After Hardware Upgrade

About 4 months ago i migrated, reinstalled win 7 and went from 32 bit to 64 bit to see how well it worked. When i re-activated, from win 7 32 to win 7 64 bit i mentioned that if it worked well fro me i sould be getting a new motherboard and hard drive. That time arrived and i upgraded my motherboard, video card and hard disk. I installed win 7 64 bit on my new hard disk, but, now i need to re-activate it. The online will not allow me to.

The phone number 1-888-725-1047 tells me to say "continue" for help but after about 15 seconds it returns and says that no help is available. I have tried this number in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening. All the same responses. I have just two weeks to get this activated or i loose everything.

Can I Deactivate Win 7 On One Pc And Then Activate It On Another Pc ?

Can i de-activate windows 7 on one and then activate on another? And can i upgrade a non-activated windows 7? I asked a question on another thread about having windows 7 on two machines and only being able to activate one with one license. I have decided to make a choice for now to keep it on one and actually upgrade or revert to vista on the other. Therefore can i do either or any of the following:

1. De-activate windows 7 on the machine i wish to upgrade and then afterwards activate windows 7 on the other which does not allow activation now?

2. Does upgrading the machine currently with windows 7 activated automatically de-activate windows 7?

3.could i actually upgrade a non-activated windows 7 home premium to ultimate or professional?

4. Does a full version of windows 7 give youthe option of just upgrading as well as what used to be a 'clean install'?

Cannot Activate Office Error 0x80072efe

I work for a school district, we have valid volume license keys for windows 7 pro, and office 2010. Both of them have hundreds of activations available still, yet we cannot get them to activate, they keep giving the same error number: 0x80072efe. Besides the error number, windows says: "the connection to the server was terminated abnormally", and office says: "a communication error has occurred. "We've tested a computer on the outside of our firewall and it's no different.

In fact the other tech here works at another school district and is having the same issue with computers there. Both districts do share the same isp and i wonder if the problem might be there, or maybe on the microsoft end? We've spent several hours now on the phone trying to get someone at microsoft who knows what they're talking about but no luck yet. We are not going to activate by phone, it would take 200+ calls, and god knows how long. (I did do one activation yesterday by phone. ) Anyone here have any ideas?

How To Activate Win 7 Office Xp Apps?

Under win7 i  installed virtual xp mode & office xp small business apps which i then activated. All works fine. I then read that most xp apps should run on win7 without problems. So, i decided to install office xp apps on win7 to see if they worked and if so i would remove the virtual xp and apps.

I was able to install office xp apps but i could not activate them as message states that they are currently activated on another computer (this is the same box, different os). I don't want to loose the activated apps if i can not get the win7 apps to activate.

Questions - how do i activate the win7 office xp apps? If i remove the virtual xp and its apps will i then be able to activate the win7 office xp apps?

Activate On Laptop Using Same Product Key

I purchased windows 7 to upgrade my laptop. After installing and using, i decided to upgrade my memory and a few components of the laptop. In doing so, i found that my expenses were going to be costly, so i just bought a new laptop. I since have decided to install windows 7 on my wife's laptop using the copy i had purchased for my old laptop. How can i activate on her laptop using the same product key? I have formatted the old hard drive on my old computer to use as a external hard drive for us, so i no longer windows 7 installed any pc.

New Motherboard

I just installed a new motherboard in to my pc and now windows crashes when it tries to start up. I understand that windows has difficulty with recognizing new motherboards when the drivers for an old one are still installed. Problem is, when i try to run windows recovery from either the hard drive it tells me 'windows failed to start' and that a recent hardware change may be the problem. Ok. So i tried to boot from my windows 7 cd to run a recovery off of that but it still gives me the same error 'windows failed to start'

I'm a bit baffled as to how i get past this point. I have all my important files backed up on another hard drive so i would just re-install windows if i could but i can't even get to a menu to give me the option of wiping my hard drive. One of my buddies suggested just going out and buying a new, blank hard drive and installing windows on that but i would rather not. Any suggestions?

New motherboard is asus m4a785-m
Running windows 7 64bit (non oem)
