4gb Ram But Only 3gb Is Usable

I have installed windows 7 ultimate x64. In system properties, windows tells me i have 4gb ram but only 3gb is usable, displayed in the following format:

Installed memory (ram): 4. 00 gb (3. 00 gb usable)
But when i goto bios it shows: installed memory: 4096mb

My mainboard is of phoenix (quanta 30bc and my bios version is f. 2d released by hp) i have dedicated 128mb graphics card. On 64 bit version of windows i should be able to use my entire 4gb of ram why is it showing only 3gb as usable?

3gb Memory Will Be Enough To Run Win 7 64-bit ?

I have just bought a dell inspiron 1545 with 3gb memory and running the vista 64-bit version. I get a free upgrade to windows 7 in october and was wondering if my 3gb on memory will be enough to run the windows 7 64-bit version. I don't do anything complicated on the laptop. Just word processing, watch videos, stream videos, listen to music and surf the web. What do you think?

Dell Netbook - Installed Memory 2gb (1gb Usable)

Windows 7 on dell netbook - installed memory 2gb (1gb usable) - why can i only use 1gb of ram? How can i make all 2gb usable? I have a dell inspiron mini 10v netbook. It came with 1gb ram and windows 7 starter. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and like it much better. Since memory was only 1gb i installed a 2gb chip instead. The computer/bios is happy with it but windows 7 will only use 1gb of it.

Win 7 Do Not Show Full 4gb Ram Memory Installed

Windows 7 home premium & ultimate both do not show full 4gb ram memory installed. I have been running vista 32 bit on my sony laptop, hp dv6000 (bought a year ago). Intel core 2 cpu t5300 @ 1. 73
In vista, i was using full 4gb of memory installed. And it was fast. I disabled everything for "best appearance" and it was just a stripped down xp, running decent fast (as compared to win 7 after installation).

I tried to install first the 64 bit win ultimate, the result was slow and sluggish. I noticed that i was only using 2. 99 gb of 4. 0gb memory installed. Which is weird since i upgraded, why did i loose my 1gb memory. I then installed 32 bit win home premium on a partition, the result is again slow and sluggish. And now again i am only showing 2. 99 gb usable, instead of the 4. 0 gb installed in the control panel>system and security> system. How can i regain my lost 1gb back. We can cross out the possibility of an old os, since it was running 4gb with win vista at a comparable very fast speed than the win 7. Thanks .

4gb Ram But Only 3.3 Gb Is Usable

Im using windows 7 enterprise 64 bits on my hp nw8440(chipset 7600) laptop and have updated the system by connecting to microsoft and it is a genuine copy too. I had earlier one stick 2gb memory and recently inserted another 2gb stick on my second slot. It is working fine on microsoft vista and shows that my entire 4gb is utilized by the system.

But after i upgraded my system to windows 7, it shows that my system has 4gb ram but only 3. 37gb is usable and the rest 641mb is reserved by some hardware. I checked my graphics too and it has its own memory so in no ways it is using the system memory. May i please know the work around for this problem.

2.7 Out Of 3.00 Installed Ram Usable

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and have 3 gb of ram installed in my computer. 32-bit editions of windows are supposed to be able to use up to 3. 2 gb of ram or something like that. However, when i look at a detailed performance report, it says that only 2. 70 gb of my 3. 00 gb installed ram is usable. Why is this?

Installed Vs Usable Ram

I had a quick look at some other threads which talks about usable ram being shown less than installed ram. Mine is also same case. In my case, my windows 7 x64 ultimate box shows: installed memory (ram): 4. 00 gb (3. 75 gb usable). I understand that . 25 is gone, due to other devices/motherboard etc. Now my question to experts: considering that there are no hardware changes and if i add 4gb more ram (making total 8gb of physical ram), then what will be the value of my usable ram?

64-bit Win 7 Ram Compatibility - 2gb Only 1.87 Gb Usable

I'm now using windows 7 32-bit, but my programs require an upgrade to windows 64-bit version. I have used windows 7 upgrade advisor to check if my computer can install a 64-bit version. Then i received a report that said my ram is not compatible. I install 2gb of ram but only 1. 87 gb are usable, so the report said i wouldn't be able to install a 64-bit version of windows. It require a whole 2gb of ram. I now wonder to know that can i install that 64-bit version?

Installed Memory Versus Available Memory

I have installed windows 7 64 bit as a clean install on a second disk in a system with windows vista 32-bit running on the 1st disk. The install went fine, and the system is running well. However, when i check the system resources i am told that there is 4 gb of memory installed but only 3. 49 gb available. Is this because i have the windows vista disk in the system. The mbr shows both systems are bootable, and the windows boot file and winload.exe are located on the vista disk drive.

This leads me to believe that i have inherited the 32-bit memory restriction on windows vista. On another system, a new laptop that came with windows 7 64bit pre- installed, also with 4 gb memory, the system resources show that there is 4 gb of memory, without any restriction on what is available.

Not Able To Use All Of Installed Memory

I have recently did a fresh install of windows 7 64-bit. I upgraded from windows vista 32-bit edition. Here's the problem.

Before i upgraded i had all my current hardware running on my vista os with no problems with the memory. I had 3gb and was able to access and use 3gb. After i installed windows 7 my memory was still fine. It showed 3gb and didn't not report that any less was only usable. This morning i log onto world of warcraft and notice everything running slow. After i installed windows 7 it was lightning fast and looked great. Now i only have 1gb of memory available to use.

I have read as many things about this problem (as i could stand) before deciding to post this. Everything is the same except is a 64-bit os and a newer edition of windows. If my bios was not a problem in vista why would it be in windows 7.

I have ran the memtest. I have prowled the bios for any way to better control the memory. I'm left with believing that the problems originates from windows 7 and i hope there is a fix for it soon. I'm gonna try restoring windows to about a week ago and see if my memory returns.

Is It Possible To Change Installed Software From 64-bit To 32-bit?

I have two desktop computers - one with windows 2000 and the other with xp. The computer with 2000 pooped out so i purchased a new desktop and this one has windows 7 home premium edition 64 bit. It will not allow me to connect my printers and most of my currently used software programs, because they will only run on 32bit. I contacted the manufacture of the printers and some of the software and they had no upgrades to offer that would allow me to run with the 64 bit.

I was told by the sales people at the store where the purchase was made, that i would have to purchase windows professional in order to make these programs and devices work. Is it possible to change the currently installed software from 64 bit to 32 bit without having to purchase new programs?

Nvidia Chipset Installed With 1 Stick Memory Only

I have an abit nf2s  "405 geforce 6100" onbrd video set at 256mb enable if no other mother board and i have always had to install vista 32 with 1 stick and shut down install 2nd stick boot into safe mode and msconfig it to check memory box to 1532mb of the total 2048 1gig each stick and check permanent boot box okok and restart. Then i can install the nvidia 15. 76 driver shutdown install nvidia vga card nvidia 7600gs and windows would recognize and unistall onbrd videoo and restart and i would install the driver for 7600gs card 195. ? And good to go i ran for a year and installed to sp2 worked good. I have to do the same for windows 7.

Abit is no longer around and i have the newest bios and tried different memory ran memtest for a month, and msconfig was the only thing that stopped bsod and corruption and windows update failures if it would install by turning memory down and all memory options off, but i was wondering how to do a bcedit and if this would be more correct.

Cmd
Bcdedit
Bootcfg /raw /burnmemory=512 /a /id1

I dont have it quite right for the commands, but if i new how to set this then i could remove my msconfig portion and the shares video memory part would be corrected, maybe and would i still have to install with 1 stick of memmory and then do the cmd bootcfg with the second stick from safe mode setting. Its like the shared 256mb of the on-brd video was never set correctly for shared memory with both sticks. I have always had to double this 2048-512=1532mb and i could boot into windows and not crash i even got a exchanged new brd 3 or 4 years ago same thing too.

I could never use any thing from windows disc after that need to get dvd burner to create a new repair recovery new boot disc. But it recovers just fine from windows restore point side. Just dont restore from the first 4 or 5 restore points until completely installed to the 7600gs video card.

Win 7 64-bit Available Memory

I performed a clean install of windows 7 professional 64-bit version on a new scsi hard disk. I have 5 gb of ram but only 3. 5gb is available according to the control panel, system icon. The task manager " performance tab - reports total physical memory of 3583mb. This is the same available memory as my windows vista 32-bit operating system. It was my understanding the 64-bit os would see and use all my memory. Can my system use all 5gb of memory?

However, window's system info show installed memory (ram) as 6. 00 gb. I also notice that during boot-up, the screen indicates that there is also only 6 gb. Lastly, i ran the memory configuration from crucial which also shows only 6 gb of ram!

Any ideas?

Xp Mode Not Usable

I want to load and run old software which will run on my xp machine. I loaded w7-pro, then xp mode, and then w-virtual pc. Then i was informed via warning box that i needed, and don't have, a hardware visualization function on my cpu. No, not just bios, the hardware!  I just bought my computer saturday, a new asuz laptop with w7 installed right on it. Why do i now need to have hardware on my brand new computer, which i didn't know about before, just to run xp mode?  Is ms working on a solution that doesn't require additional hardware?

Removable Drive Not Usable In Win7

I'm glad to see that in less than 24 hours you directly contributed to the loss and destruction of 2 removable hard drives i own. Not only did they both work in other machines powered by xp but the data on them was crucial. I did my share of research and found that the only solution anyone representing microsoft provided for the issue of removable drives not usable in windows 7 was directly related to a chipset or hardware issue (of course).

Unfortunately, on the initial install of windows 7 rc and windows 7 ultimate 64-bit the drives were usable and able to be read. But now, i have over $150 in hardware that is completely useless because of yet another untested patch or os related change. Not only did my drives not show up via plug and pray, they did not even post to the system. But luckily the sata drives received power from the motherboard and started spinning as they should.

Unfortunately, given that i could not "safely" stop the hardware before disconnecting, i was forced to either reboot or disconnect the devices. But, as we all know, when you hard stop a disc spinning at 5400 - 7200 rpm there is a strong possibility that there will be negative results to follow the action.

In the end, i am positive that the largest software company in the world will be quick to note that this is a hardware issue. Even if the devices previously worked on the system. There will be no compensation. No fix. And there is a very good possibility that there will not be any response to this posting. If anyone representing microsoft is willing to help, i can be contacted at email removed for privacy.

4gb Of Ram Causes Computer To Crash

When i try to use 4gb of ram in my computer, it crashes, either it will crash then load up fine the 2nd time around or it will crash constantly and give me a bsod. The motherboard should be able to handle up to 8gb of ram so i don't get why this is happening. It's an asrock n68-gs motherboard, with a 1. 5 tb hard drive, windows 7.

Sound Blaster X-fi, 4gb Ram, Win 7 X64

I've recently upgraded to windows 7 x64 and also added 2 gb of ram to my system. I have a soundblaster x-fi (sbo467 per the dell website) on an xps 710. After installing the new ram, the computer boots up with static sound, and if i play anything with sound after bootup, the sound cuts out completely. I've read some about 3rd party drivers working but i've been unsuccessful so far in getting these drivers to work. Can anyone tell me how to get this problem resolved?

Ram Upgrade Problem From 512x4 (2gb) To 2x2 (4gb)

Ram. I upgraded from 512mbx4 (2gb) to 2gbx2 (4gb) when i run the 4gb by it self it boots up fine but i went to add back in 2 of the 512mb chips it will not boot up to windows. The computer sees the ram fine but windows come up with widows damaged repair files or boot up normally when i say normal it reboots and comes up to the same window.

When i remove the two 512mb chips it boots up fine again. Is windows 7 compatible with 5gb ram? Why do i get an error from windows and not my bios? They are all ddr2 chips but  the 2 512 are at 533mhz and the 2gb chips are at 1066mhz. Can i buy 4 more giabytes of the 2gig chips for a total of 8gb and it will work?

Update i bought 4 gig more of the same ram still wouldn't work must be time for a new motherboard! Dell support now sucks won't tell me how much ram my computer will take and if you want to call and ask it's like $50. 00.

Repartition Memory Stick / Memory Card

How to repartition a memory stick or a memory card? So, i bought an 8 gb memory card and figured i could create a couple or a few partitions on it; perhaps exfat and fat32 ones. I fired up the disk management program only to find out that the flash memory disk has the shrink/extend/delete volume controls greyed out. I did manage to shrink the volume using the disk-part command line program but couldn't use it either for creating new volumes.

Where does this seemingly ridiculous and pointless restriction stem from? I only found a couple of instructions on how to partition a memory stick using some shady third party programs.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?
