Compatibility Error - Mcafee Personal Firewall Plus

Trying to upgrade from vista to 7. Getting compatibility error from mcafee personal firewall plus. I don't have this program anymore, but it is showing up in services. How can i get the upgrade to work? Ideas:i have eliminated all the mcafee folders and registry items that i could find. In services it lists the path where the service is, but the mcafee folder listed there is not on my computer. I have tried using the mcafee uninstall tool, no success.

Upgrade Error Due To Mcafee Firewall

I need some recommendations about how to upgrade my dell desktop running windows vista business when i keep getting an error that mcafee firewall plus is installed despite this program having been removed over 2 years ago?

Original dell system shipped with xp and mcafee pre-installed in 2006 however i upgraded to vista immediately through dells' upgrade program. Later after the my subscription to mcafee expired i removed the program (i thought) and replaced it first with norman and now norton internet security 2009.

After repeated system searches and use of the mcafee ' technical assistant there are no 'visible' folders or files associated with mcafee however i cannot run a simple upgrade to windows 7 upgrade because of this issue.

Will I Have Compatibility Issue With Mcafee?

We just purchased w7 hp upgrade software. I have a current mcafee protection/subscription. When i install will i have compatibility issues with the w/defender disabling my firewall and auto activating? If i do should i contact mcafee or ms for solutions? I've had these issues with ms "updates", they are a real pain in the neck to deal with. Of course mcafee, wisely, will not say anything negative. I'm looking forward to upgrading and wish to avoid any sidestepping with potential issues.

Mcafee Security Centre Is Prohibiting Upgrade Process

I have been trying to install my new windows 7 upgrade on my acer aspire 5332 laptop. It accepts the acer setup disc. When i try to continue with the windows disc, it tells me that the mcafee security centre is prohibiting the process. I have disabled the mcafee, with the same result. I have now uninstalled mcafee and checked the registry too. Mcafee is no longer showing on the computer. When i run the windows disc again, i still get the same message. Can you advise please?

Firewall And Sharing

I have a program that is unable to work while windows 7 firewall is enabled. I have tried restoring the firewall to default and then repeatably allowing the program access. I have tried the more advanced options and they still do not work. I have resorted to installing a third party software firewall and behold i have found out i cannot disable windows 7 firewall and disable network sharing and file sharing. This is super poor design. I do not want networking sharing or file sharing on at all. What am i supposed to do in this situation?

Cannot Enable Win 7 Firewall

I recently purchased a new hp laptop with windows 7 home premium. However, i cannot activate my firewall. When i go into my firewall settings from the control panel, it doesn't even allow me to click the 'turn windows firewall on or off' option to the left. Now, it stated in my firewall settings that "these settings are being managed by vendor application norton firewall provider".

So i thought perhaps my norton firewall was interfering with it, so i turned off its smart firewall. But i still can't turn on my windows firewall. In fact, i cannot click most of the options in my firewall settings at all (turn firewall on/off, restore defaults, change settings etc). The only thing i can click is the advanced settings and troubleshoot.

Firewall Blocks Scanner

Spend several minutes with brother (model mfc-490cw). It's a 3 in 1. It is set perfectly. My computer is shown on the list were to send the scan to, but the connection doesn't go through. Able to scan from my computer to printer. If i disabled firewall, works. Try to add brother programs, don't find the right to add obviously (and the tech either). Was working just fine with vista! For now, only have config. Problems with windows 7. I don't think that removing my firewalls is the right answer.

Firewall Access - Bittorrent

On my computer i have bittorrent and for the longest time it was working perfectly fine. I was able to download torrents quickly and easily but recently i haven't been able to download any at all. I get this message "error opening windows firewall: 0x80070005 access is denied". I never got it before this just randomly started happening. I am not the greatest with computers so i was wondering if anyone could provide a step by step process to solving this problem.

Some information that may be important: bittorrent is installed on my laptop and i use a wireless connection to the internet.

Firewall Blocking File Sharing

Came into the office today (two computers on the network) and one of the computers could not see the other on the network (it was not a problem the other way around). I went through some troubleshooting, and figured out it was the firewall on the one computer blocking access. The firewall is controlled by macafee virus protection. So, i turned off the firewall, and bingo, i can now see each computer from both directions. The problem is now i don't have any firewall protection. Any reason the settings on the firewall would have been different today than they were yesterday, and how do i turn the firewall back on while allowing the file sharing to continue on as before over the network?

A Program Or Firewall Is Not Compatible With This Version Of Windows

I am having a reoccurring windows security alert and  issue with my windows 7 home premium edition.
I have a dell studio1737 laptop. I get a windows security alert warning stating "a program or firewall is not compatible with this version of windows"

Name: microsoft console based script host
Publisher: microsoft corp
Path: c:windowssystem32cscript.exe

I also run norton internet security on my laptop. I am also quite careful about my online activities so i am pretty confident it is not a malware issue. But i could also be wrong.
I have contacted norton support and after removing and reinstalling norton is 2010 a couple of times. They advised me to contact microsoft support for assistance because they could not rectify the issue i am having.

Dell support have not been much help either (nothing new there). I have searched extensively for a solution and an answer but i have unfortunately not found anything that has helped me. Can anybody here help me with this issue. Because i am not filled with confidence at the moment about my laptops security? Also if anybody could give me any information about what cscript.exe is and why it is causing these problems.

Advisor Compatibility Check Error

I want to upgrade to windows 7 from vista. I assume that there shouldn't be a problem. After all, it is the same company right? After downloading the advisor, i got the same error each time. "Windows 7 upgrade advisor ran into an unexpected error. Please re-install windows 7 upgrade advisor and try again". I've done this a few times with the same result. Does this mean that i won't be able to upgrade to 7 or would i have to do a clean install? I really don't want to start uninstalling some programs to see what works and what doesn't.

Battlefield 2 / Supreme Commander 2 Compatibility Error

Okay, so i've had no trouble installing files before, but now i'm getting errors left right and centre. I'm trying to install battlefield 2/supreme commander 2. But whenever i try and install either of them i get this error:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher. "

Now, i'm running: windows 7, 64-bit. I've been googling this for the last 4 hours and haven't found a solution to my problem. I've even searched on this board an other boards, no luck at all. I've tried downloading windows xp mode/virtual pc but it doesn't work for me. It doesn't load at all, does anyone know a way around this? I've installed games before on my laptop without any problem. Just recently i've been getting that silly error.

Disable Windows Firewall " Stealth Mode "

Is there any way to disable "stealth mode" on the windows 7 firewall? I want windows to send icmp unreachable packets. According to this technet article, stealth mode is enabled by default, but there is no information on how to disable it. It was possible to control this on xp. Allow meto pre-answer the obvious questions about my question.

(1) i've already googled it. I found other people asking the same question, but no answers.
(2) i really do want to disable stealth mode. With all due respect, i'm not asking for advice or opinions on the wisdom of my choice.

Compatibility Check

Attempting to install windows 7 ultimate 64-bit version on sony vaio laptop computer currently running windows vista home premium 64-bit version using the upgade option. Ran the install and got a compatiblity message about adobe acrobat 7. 0 as follows:

"Upgrading windows will affect the following devices and/or programs: these programs might not work properly after the upgrade. We recommend uninstalling these programs before upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, open control panel, and search for "uninstall a program". (Note: programs marked as * can be safely reinstalled after the upgrade. )

Acrobat reader 7:- i uninstalled the software in the manner directed by the message (i.e. Opened control panel, clicked on uninstall programs, clicked on acrobat 7. 0 and clicked on uninstall. The process said "uninstall successful". I then rebooted the computer ran the windows 7 upgrade advisor and everything was "good to go". I tried to install windows 7 again running the compatibility check this time and got the same message (see above).

I went through a full c-drive search (including hidden files) and found all of the files the matched with the search criteria "acrobat*7*. *" Found some files and file folders this way some of which i could delete without a problem, some requried changing the file permission. Eventually i erased anything matching the search criteria.

Reboot, retry to install windows 7 - result: same compatibility message. Allowed the install to continue. Almost three hours later with most of the install complete, got a message "cannot install removing installation files and reloading original operating system" or something to that effect.

Had sony tech support actually on my computer through their internet access trying to fix the problem and they found and erased a few more acrobat files and tried to install windows 7 with similar results. When the install screen hit the same acrobat 7. 0 compatibility flag, the chat i was on with the technician suddenly went dead.

I don't particularly want to play the "just uninstall programs until you get it to go" approach, nor do i want to do a clean install with all the legacy settings and software that is currently installed so.

Has microsoft addressed this with an option to install over the incompatible software (that is not there anyway)? Or are we all stuck wandering in the dark with expensive versions of windows 7 that cannot be used and equally troublesome vista os software.

Anyone out there have any answers or advise?

Iphone Compatibility

Not sure if this is the best spot for this but here goes. I recently installed win 7 ultimate on my machine. Intel p45 mobo, core 2 quad processor, previously ran win xp. I plug in my iphone 3gs and nothing. At all. I am pretty sure it isn't a usb problem since all but one usb peripheral is found. (An external hard drive)  so i start to scour the net because i know surely there has to be a fix. All i find are posts about having a p55 mobo and itunes not syncing.

I have found nothing that is my problem specifically. The more i search the more i am starting to think that neither microsoft or apple are acknowledging/fixing the issue. Someone please tell me i am wrong and just haven't come across the right fix. I can always go back to xp but i would rather not. I have updated to the latest chipset, the latest bios, the latest usb drivers.

Compatibility With Adobe Elements 7

I am considering upgrading from windows vista 64 bit to windows 7 64 bit (home version). I ran the compatibility check with windows 7 compatibility on my current software. It appears as though photoshop elements 7 is not compatible. There is a link under "action recommended" that says "get paid upgrade. "

I am looking on the windows compatibility site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/details.aspx?Type=software&p=adobe%20photoshop%20elements&v=adobe&uid=7&pf=0&pi=0&s=photoshop%20elements%208&os=64-bit

I am translating this information as "elements 7 will not work on windows 7, so here is a free (paid) upgrade to elements 8 through adobe. " Is this correct? Am i missing something? I can not find any information on the adobe site that would suggest this to be true.

Cannot Change Compatibility Mode

I am trying to run an application on a new windows 7 pc. It runs fine with no special settings on an identical windows 7 pc (same model number, same os, same updates to the os). But on the second machine windows will not allow me to change compatibility mode to windows 7. It insists on locking me into other compatibility modes and then greys out the selection to change it back to windows 7. Worse, every time i run the program i have to answer the nattering question "do you want the following application to make changes to this computer?" - Yes!  Whatever! Just leave me alone and run the application!

1) how do i stop this nattering and force windows 7 to leave me alone and run the application?

2) how do i switch compatibility mode back to windows 7 (or eliminate compatibility mode altogether) for this application?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application several times with no luck.

Office 2000 Compatibility

Have recently bought windows 7 (starter) netbook, on which i was hoping to use my pre-existing office 2000 word & excel files which are on flash drives (i have the 2000 program on disks) but all attempts to use these files engage the office 2007 suite, which i have no wish to use whatsoever. Is there any way round this annoying obstacle ? I have subsequently read that w7 & office 2000 are not compatible but would welcome any advice on how best to overcome this in the least expensive way please.
