Boot Problem - No Boot Device Found

Each time i start up the system the boot file cannot be found. I select the "repair start up" option and it completes it successfully with following detail: root cause found: the partition table does not have a valid system partition. Repair action: partition table repair.completion successfully. After this the system will start up. As mentioned, i have to do this at every start up, so i'm wondering why this partition table disappears when i shut down the desktop. I should mention that this problem started at the time i downloaded and installed the true image backup software.

The installation could not complete and one possible solution to the problem was to stop the antivirus program. At that moment i noticed that the avast antivirus was hanging and i was not able to kill the process. So i restarted the system, using f8 to get the safe start option so that i was able to uninstall the antivirus program. I then tried to install another antivirus application and when installation was almost finished got the message that it was unable to complete installation. I tried to install another backup solution (paragon), but also this one failed. On the other hand, i was able to install the firefox browser.

Win 7 Will Not Boot - Operating System Not Found

I installed windows 7 on october 27, 2009 (previously had vista) and it was working great. Then about three days after christmas my computer froze and said, "operating system not found. " I then proceeded to take the my computer to where i had initially purchased it, bestbuy. After there geek squad looked at it they informed me that in all likelihood i had a bad motherboard. I purchased a new laptop from them and had them back up my old files onto my portable hdd and was on my way. I then decided that i might as well see if there was anything that i could do to get the old laptop working. I called hp (the manufacturer of my old laptop) and was told that it could possibly be the sata ii connection on my motherboard that was bad.

So, i got an enclosure for the old hdd and plugged it into the usb port on the old laptop. I went into the boot order and set it up to run the usb hard drive first and it would actually get to the windows loading screen! But that was as far as i could get. It would then go to a blue error screen 0x0000007b, telling me to check for viruses and such. I then tried to run system recovery and it was unable to repair it. This is what it told me:

Win 7 Fails To Boot - Autochk Program Not Found, Skipping Autocheck

A couple weeks ago, i bought a new 7200rpm hard drive for my laptop to replace the 5400rpm one it came with. Cloned the disk, stuck it in. This laptop had a windows vista 32 bit partition, a windows 7 64 bit partition, and an extended partition with several linux ext3 partitions. I had kept vista around in case i needed to use something that didn't have 64 bit drivers (mostly just ti connect), but now that i had two copies of it (i haven't yet reformatted the old drive) i figured last weekend that i'd delete the vista partition on the new drive and extend my 7 partition backwards to reclaim some space.

I knew that some of the boot files were on the vista partition, and sure enough it didn't boot after deleting that partition so after i deleted it i ran the windows 7 system recovery to install the boot files to the 7 partition. Rebooted, so far so good. Then i tried to extend the partition leftward to fill in the space that the vista partition used, but after rebooting i keep getting this error:

"Autochk program not found, skipping autocheck"

After which it seems to blue-screen for a split second before rebooting. The files are more or less all there, from what i can tell. I've tried using system recovery from the 7 install disk to no avail. It just says no problems found. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? A lot of results online mention security software like norton causing this problem, but i've never used any of the programs mentioned. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Worst case though, i'll just re-clone the old hard drive and then copy over the documents i edited in the intermediate two weeks.

Dual Boot Boot Problem After Resizing Win 7

Boot problem on dual boot after resizing windows 7 (32bit) switched from drive w: to drive g: i have a dual boot system that boots into win 7 (64) (c:drive) or win 7 (32) (w:drive). I needed to increase the size of win7 (64) drive and in order to do so i needed to move the win 7 (32) partition. Now i can still boot into win 7 (64) with no problem but when i boot into win 7 (32) it windows states that it is not a genuine copy and it is actually on drive "g:"! Anyway to change it back to "w:" because i believe this is the problem.

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. When removed it will not boot. I have been working on this for 5-6 weeks. I want to remove the win7/32 and put the boot image of win7/64 on the second drive.

I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device

I have just purchased an acer system with windows 7 64-bit pre-installed, and i have been having serious problems since completing the setup.computer works ok for a while, then it freezes/crashes. This still happens after a factory restore. I am forced to turn off the power. If i try again immediately to power up, the system will not boot. I get the message "reboot and select proper boot device. " Try again, i get a read error. Checking the event viewer, i see a lot of errors (in addition to event id: 41/kernel-power) for nvstor64.

Dual Boot - 1 Xp And 3 Win 7 Boot Choices

I've installed win 7 on my d drive, with win xp still on c, with the idea of having a dual boot system. Due to installation problems, i now show the xp boot choice, and 3 win 7 boot choices, with only the most recent valid. How do i purge the b. Boot.ini doesn't appear to be relevant. Win 7 utility boot rewriter program to re-point boot to ntldr will wipe out all pointers to win 7 for booting, but comes back with an extra win 7 pointer, the next time i load win 7.

New Sata Boot Drive Wont Boot

I have a new 2t sata drive (seagate). It took about 5 days of research to finally get my computer to see it. I used seagate's disk wizard to clone my older drive (ide). The sata drive was supposed to become the c: drive. Disk management does label it as the c drive but in "computer" it sees it as f:i disconnected my older drive and when i booted up the bios kept looking for the ide drive. Although the motherboard has sata built in, there seems to be no way to tell the bios that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive.

Also with the original drive disconnected i get a "ntldr not found. Press control-alt-delete to restart. "I believe mybios is the problem. I have flashed it with the newest bios i could find, (dates from 2005) but no sata adjustments in the bios. How can i make the bios know that i want the sata drive to be the primary boot drive?

Or is there a way to trick the bios into thinking that it is an ide drive? As it is, the computer is recognizing the sata drive as a scsi drive. I read somewhere that this is not a problem. In summary, i want my system to boot from the sata drive. I would like to reformat the original drive.

Dual Boot - Can't See Win 7 Drive After Removing Other Boot Drive

My mobo (msi p7n diamond 780i sli / 570i sli) has a sata raid controller providing 6 sata interfaces
These are organized thus.

Sata 1 - [partition 1 - windows xp] [partition 2 - windows 7 beta (64bit)]
Sata 2 - ocz vertex - windows 7 home (64bit) retail version
Sata 3 - mirror a
Sata 4 - mirror b
Sata 5 - mirror a
Sata 6 - mirror b

The system was originally running xp on sata 1. I added a partition to sata 1 and installed windows 7 beta some weeks ago. The system dual booted to xp or win 7 beta fine. I then added the ocz vertex drive and installed the win 7 retail version, and i am able to dual boot to all three systems just fine.

However - i really want to do away with the xp and win 7 beta partitions and just run with the ocz drive. However if i disconnect the drive from sata 1 the system will not boot up. Can't find ntldr or bootmgr or something similar. I have changed the boot sequence in the bios to point at just the ocz drive - but it just won't boot from it.

No Device Drivers Found

I'm trying to install windows 7, and have wasted multiple discs in the process, trying different speeds, different softwares, even different types of discs. My problem is i'm getting stuck with the "no device drivers found. " I've seen a few threads but i cannot find an answer that will work.

The last thing i thought i would mention is that i'm currently on windows xp x32 and i'm wanting to go to windows 7 x64. Can this be done? Do i need to fully uninstall windows xp with the windows xp disc before even using the windows 7 disc?

No Device Drivers Found Issue

I downloaded the student edition of windows 7 home premium, i am currently running vista ultimate so cannot do an update and have to do a custom install. I downloaded it fine, ran it, it opens up fine with the blue windows 7 opening screen, i select install, then select custom install. In the next window i have an empty white box which i presume is supposed to list my hd's allowing me to select where i want to install windows 7. None of my hd's are showing up, i'm given the option to browse or scan, when i select this it gives me the message.

No device were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok. Any suggestions?

Bluetooth Peripheral Device - No Driver Found

I've bought an usb bluetooth yesterday. I plugged it in usb and windows installed all drivers just fine. However, it downloaded some driver from windows update. But my problem is, when i'm trying to add my mobile phone it tries to install many drivers. Windows is able to install all drivers except one. It says bluetooth peripheral device - no driver found. I went to shop and i changed the usb bluetooth and got another one. Same thing with new one. It doesn't find a driver. The bluetooth is useless now, i cannot do anything with it. Also i've tried the bluetooth in my other pc but exact same thing. Currently i'm on windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, but my other pc has windows 7 ultimate 32-bit.

I've tried windows update myself and there was a driver which is 15 kb, i've installed it but no chance. Same thing happening. Driver date is 2008, too old and not for windows 7 i bet. What i have to do now? Please do not say change the bluetooth, because i'm not able to find any other brands. Here is only two brands. And one more thing, i've spent much time yesterday searching my problem in microsoft answers and web and i've tried all ways i've seen, but none of them worked. M i not able to run this device as vista? Something like that? There should be a way please give me some solutions. I really need it.

Bluetooth Peripheral Device Driver Not Found

I upgraded from windows vista to windows 7 home premium. I was able to connect my blackberry storm just fine when i had vista. Now when i try to connect my phone via bluetooth i get a bluetooth peripheral device not found. I have tried everything. I have checked for updates on windows, bluetooth manufacture, and hp and i cannot find any update. I have went to the device manager and right clicked the peripheral driver and tried to update it over the internet and manually. I tried to troubleshoot and run it with a older version of windows, since it worked then, but when it asks me to select which program i would like to run on an older version of windows, i cannot find the drive. Does anyone have any ideas or a way to fix this?

System Backup Not Found When Using Express Card Usb 3.0 With Device

I upgraded from vista to windows 7 and made a system backup through the backup center. The backup center recognized my external drive (freecom), which is connected to an express card using usb 3. 0. However, when i wanted to see whether the image was on the drive through clicking the restore function (sorry don't know the exact names in english; a have a dutch windows 7 copy), the drive isn't recognized. It just doesn't seem to be there.

When i use the windows recovery disk, it isn't recognized either. But when i put the device straight in a usb 2. 0 input bus it is recognized. This is odd. Just wanted other users to know what to do when they use 3. 0 through an express card.

Boot Up Screen

I bought an hp mini 210 netbook  and when it is booting up right before the username menu when its just a black screen loading a tinny colorful line appears at the top of the screen for about 15 seconds. I asked a geek squad guy and he said that it was just windows seven doing its regular resolution test that it does when it boots up. However just to be on the safe side i exchanged it for the same model of netbook to make sure it wasn't the machine but the line was still their. So i was just wondering if it is really just a resolution test that windows does before booting. And does any one get the same line.

Pc Will Not Boot After Update

Last night my pc did a couple of security updates and did a nvida update - i can't remember if this was for the on-board sound or the motherboard (i assume the later). Now when ever i try to turn on my pc i see the "biostar" logo, for what feels like ages, and then i get a list which ends with "3rd master disk error - press del for bios set-up". In the bios i noticed that i can't add my sata drive into the boot priorities list. When i look at my sata drive it shows as having 0 mb - which is utter rubbish! I've tried setting the sata drive into achi mode - but this just leads to the pc trying to boot from the cd and saying "no media present".

Cannot Boot Up Computer

I cannot seem to load my windows operating system. Before this problem occurred, my computer was installing windows updates, but then it freezes and i had to forcefully shut it down. After this, everytime i turn on my computer, it will take a long time to load up and then it shows that windows is on stage three out of three of installing updates, but it always remains at 0%. Fter two or three minutes, my computer will just reboot and start the whole process again. Now it keeps looping, and i cant even log on my user.

Unable To Boot

When i power on from being totally off, it will not boot into windows. It will not start the desktop. I have a hp laptop dv6000 with vista premium home edition, and when i power on from being totally off, it will not boot/load into 'windows'. It will not start the 'desktop'. A black/blank screen. Although i do see the cursor arrow and it moves around. No icons. Does the 'desktop windows manager session manager' have anything to do with this?I tried the alternate "repair> start up assessment>" portion and it found nothing wrong.

I can get into safe mode and then go to 'system configuration' and get into the three options of start-up and two that will get me into the desktop with limited features. I turned on all the "start up" features there. It goes into desktop ok.

When i try to turn on most any of the featured of the "services" side it takes forever to turn/load anything on. So. With the 'selective' and 'diagnostic setup'. It does fine. 'normal' it won't show/load the desktop. I have a personal family pic for a wallpaper and it works ok in the other modes. I changed the wallpaper to microsoft sample pic and it only works in the 'two optional modes' also.

Cannot Boot From Hdd

Just installed windows 7 pro upgrade onto a hdd previously containing windows xp sp3. Windows 7 runs absolutely fine as far as i can tell. However the system has been booting to dvd, which has then passed over to the windows 7 install. When changing the bios settings back to boot from hdd first, i get the error "ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt, please reinstall". As far as i can tell, this is a hangover from the old xp installation, and windows 7 is not even trying to start. I've run the startup repair service from the windows 7 dvd once and all that did is unnecessarily run a system restore.

Cannot Boot After Update

My laptop performed a windows update but crashed half way through, now when it boots and after i enter my windows 7 password it just hangs, eventually it loads my desktop but it took 3 hours to fully load it and my icons but everytime i clicked an icon it took about 15 mins to open and froze the laptop at the same time. I cannot load in safety mode and when i finally got to the restore option it says no restore points are available (which is strange is i created one at the weekend)
I have also tried booting from the windows 7 disk and using all the restore options available to no avail.

Dual Boot

I am currently running windows xp and need to upgrade for school. My computer has a 120 gb harddrive split into two partitions. Can i use the other partition that xp is not on to install and run windows 7? My primary drive is listed as os c: and the other one is listed as data d:. My system is as follows:

Emachine el 1200-01e. I meet all the system requirements except for the ram, which i will be upgrading anyway. Will it be better to buy a new computer if i can't install windows 7 on the other partition or should i perform a clean install? The clean install worries me a bit because i can't be without a computer very long as it is needed for online schooling.

Win 7 Will Not Boot

I have a sony vaio vgn-sz58 laptop (core2duo t7700, mobile intel gm965 express chipset, 3gb ram, 160 gb sata hdd, nvidia 8400m gpu, phoenix bios, upgraded to win 7 from vista a month back)

Problem: windows 7 (32 bit) will not boot - comes up with a black screen after the vaio splash.
Other details: win 7 was purchased online and have used the dvd/usb tool to copy onto usb. No new software installations except ms live meeting on jan 6th. Runs ntfs.

Steps taken:
1) f2 takes me to bios and "escape" to boot order. Changed setting to boot from usb
2) boots fine to usb knoppix and i was able to back up most of the data. Knoppix refuses to mount hdd in rw mode saying it is "hibernated" state. Can see "hiberfil.sys" on hdd.
3) ran the win 7 recovery cd:
         * Startup recovery found no errors/issues
         * Memory diagnostics found no issues
         * Tried system restore to multiple previous restore points, completed successfully - did not solve the problem
         * Ran chkdsk and chkdsk /r from command prompt (admin mode).initially complained of another process using it - but was able to free the handle. No issues reported by chkdsk
         * Sfc /scannow will not run - says existing system repair in progress that needs reboot - rebooting did not fix anything.
         * Cannot seem to run powercfg from command prompt in recovery console.
         * Sent laptop to vaio support - no hardware issues including cooling fan
         * Ran win 7 installation from usb - gives me option to upgrade or do fresh install. Repair option takes me back to the recovery console
         * Asks me to boot up normally before running upgrade - which i cannot.
         * Cannot run safe mode (f8) booting from hdd - gives me no such option.

I guess a fresh install is the simplest route but i do not want to do that.

I'm thinking of force mounting the hdd in rw mode under knoppix and deleting hiberfil.sys if i can.

Any suggestions?

Cannot Boot Into Win 7

My window 7 harddisk will not boot. I have no recovery disk. The problem is  cause via the curiosum that there is a second between the message "shutting down" and "installing criticall hardware" and being in "speed mode" i in that very second i shut my laptop. The machine does a system scanning of my harddisk to do repairs. No repairing is done (or needed) . And the machine never starts. I put in a second harddisk via the dvd bay and press f12 and boot from there, and viewed the first hard disk in file explorer. Most of the material /folders that where once visible arent visible any more. What to do?

How can i recover my - probably software damaged - harddisk? But i have not taken any recovery updates . And if i bring windows back to its installation point. Wouldn't i loose all the data and programs collected since that time? Here is another way to perform a system restore:

1. Set your bios so that it uses the dvd drive as its primary boot device.
2. Boot the machine with your windows 7 repair cd or with your windows 7 installation dvd.
3. Press a key if prompted to boot from the dvd.
4. Select "safe mode command prompt" when prompted.
5. Log on as administrator if prompted.
6. Select repair when prompted.
7. Select system restore when prompted.
8. Set windows back to a point before this problem occurred.

Win 7 Will Not Boot Up

I have an hp pavillion a1540n computer which originally came with hp media edition software and windows xp.

I recently upgraded to windows 7 everything was fine for a few months and all of a sudden the computer would not boot-up. The last thing that occurred was ie was hung on several pages and i closed them and rebooted. Windows 7 did not come up got the blue screen of death, then i attempted several trouble-shooting tasks which none worked, system recovery, recovery console, all safe modes, booting from the windows update cd, created a new boot cd.

Nothing has worked. What happens is, the system is able to read the cd drive boots windows logo and sits with a blank screen and cursor error. When attempting recovery it says loading files then goes to the same black screen. I am stuck and do not know how i can recover my system. Any other ideas out there?
