Can I Run 32-bit Xp In Xp Mode Virtual Host Under 64-bit Win 7?

Can i run 32-bit xp in the xp mode virtual host under 64 bit windows 7? I have a legacy program (for an alpha smart neo) that communicates via usb, and it is not compatible with 64 bit platforms.

I'm not sure if the 32 bit limitation is in a driver, or in the main manager program provided with the neo. On a related topic, can i load 32 bit drivers in the virtual xp under windows 7, assuming i can run 32 bit xp under 64 bit windows 7?

Win 7 64-bit Virtual Xp Mode Issue With 3 Monitors

Windows 7 64bit, virtual xp mode. 3 monitors. Cannot drag virtual app to left monitor but can drag to right monitor. We have an app running in virtual xp mode on windows 7 64bit. We have 3 monitors. All the native applications can be dragged from the center (main) monitor to the left and the right monitors. But any virtual apps can only be dragged to the right monitor.

If you click on the far right of the title bar and drag the virtual app to the left monitor, the window disappears where it should be displayed on the left monitor and the window stops once the cursor hits the edge of the center monitor but the cursor keeps going on to the left monitor while the virtual app stops where the cursor was on its title bar. It doesn't matter what virtual app it is. I loaded office on the same virtual machine and all the office apps have the same problem.

I tried moving the monitors around, as long as the monitors are on the right as far as the display settings are concerned, i can drag the virtual apps to it. But any monitor to the left cannot be dragged to. I tried this on other computers, if the monitor is on the left, it cannot be dragged to.

But if the monitor is moved to the right of the main monitor in the display settings window, then it can be dragged to. This only effects virtual apps. Lso, if i just run the virtual machine, i can drag it to the left monitor.

Will Micrografx Draw 6 Run In Xp Mode 32-bit ?

I have alot of important projects that were created with and old micrografx draw 6 program. It ran fine in xp (2006) machine. The software will not install in windows 7 home premium in any of the compatibility modes. The message says "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. Check your computer's systems information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher. The software publisher is out of business. If i upgrade to windows 7 professional will i be able to install and use this software? If not do you know of any other software that could open and work or just print my saved files? They have a (. Drw) extension.

Windows 64-bit Keeps Trying To Run 32-bit Version Programs

Windows 64 bit version keeps trying to run a 32 bit version to run internet from different programs. I updated my sony laptop to windows 7 from vista. I had trouble connecting to the internet. I went to the search programs and files option from my start menu. I found the explorer 64 bit option and  clicked on it and the internet can right up.

I downloaded things like i-tunes and sony reader and when i go to places like the library that need to access the internet i get the no connection error. I also get messages that i am trying to run a 32 bit version of something that has a 64 bit cpu and an error code. I need to know how to change the defaut to run everything on the 64 bit version. I hope this makes since to someone. I am so confused and frustrated.

Will 64-bit Win 7 Run 32-bit Xp Compatible Programs ?

Will 64-bit windows 7 run 32-bit xp compatible programs that are not compatible with 64-bit vista ultimate? I recently bought a new pc with vista ultimate. It's my first 64-bit system (long time xp user). I have encountered big problems with the new 64-bit vista.

Specifically, i have several programs which run on 32-bit xp, but will not run at all on 64 bit vista (vpn checkpoint client, and solidworks 2008 - both non-trivial items used constantly for work). I bought the computer never imagining that i would have problems with these programs.

In vista, the only option i've found to make these programs "work" has been virtual pc. With virtual pc, in your new vista operating system, you can set up a "virtual computer", and install an old operating system on it, where your old programs will work. Installing an old operating system within a new operating system polices the borders of common sense. Too - the programs you install on the "virtual pc" are not free to communicate with the "real" pc. So in the frustrating case of my vpn client, i only see it function in fairyland (i.e. The virtual pc).

I recall a similar issue that arose with the windows 98 transition to xp. I thought xp handled this well with its "program compatibility wizard" (as i believe it was called). Where did this function go? Will it return with w7?

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?

Home Premium 64-bit Virtual Pc

I was noticing that virtual pc 2007 is available on the list of student downloads, but there isn't a version that will run on windows 7 64-bit that i can find a link too, which kind of makes me sad since it would solve a lot of the issues im currently having with a c+ class i'm taking, teacher is making us use borland 5. 02 which i cant seem to get to work in windows 7, at least not completely, but anyway i spent most of yesterday and today repartitioning my hard drive and installing vista 32 bit on another section of my drive, but now i have to switch between them since all my visual studio 2008 projects are on my windows 7 partition. If a version of virtual pc 2007 exists for windows 7 home premium 64 bit then please let me know.

How To Run 16-bit Programs On Win 7?

I have to be able to run a 16 bit cad program. I had vista and replaced it with xp. Got w7 and it is much better than vista but still can't get the program to run on it. Virtual pc will run the program but access to the physical drive is so slow that it is not acceptable. For instance to run a routine (which is why i have to have the 16 bit program) takes 12 seconds in xp and 1min 20 sec on w7 via virtual pc.

Is there a way to do this?
Is ms going to address this if not?
Or do i dump w7 and stay with xp?

Virtual Pc 2207 Cannot Access Host Drives

On a vista box, i have a ms virtual 2007 virtual machine running xp. I just got a windows 7 box. I copied over the virtual machine files from the xp box: - . Vhd (virtual hard drive file) - . Vmc (virtual hard drive settings file) i then created a new virtual machine in windows 7 based on the virtual pc 2007 virtual machine; i enabled the integration features and checked all the drives.

Created a new virtual machine in windows 7 based on a virtual pc 2007 virtual machine (from an xp box); cannot access host (windows 7) drives from virtual machine when i then run the new virtual xp machine in windows 7, everything runs fine (and faster as well). The one issue i'm experiencing, however, is that i cannot access the host (windows 7) drives from virtual machine, even though i've shared the drives on windows 7. Btw, if i run the built-in "windows xp mode" virtual machine, i see the host drives when i run windows explorer from within that virtual machine.

What is it that i'm missing?  (Btw, it was a *ton* easier in ms virtual pc 2007; i simply "mapped" a shared drive in the settings dialog and then see that drive when i run windows explorer from within that virtual machine. ) Another thought: should i simply abandon the above, install ms virtual pc 2007 on the windows 7 box and then create the virtual machine with ms virtual pc 2007 (in lieu of the built-in windows virtual pc in windows 7)?

Program I Need To Run Windows Will Not Work On 64-bit

I installed windows 7 pro 64 bit on mac with fusion. Turns out the one program i need to run windows will not work on 64 bit, or so they say. I uninstalled and re-installed the 32 bit version. Now i am being warned i only have a few days left to use the program without a new key code. Is there any way around this problem. I am not using the 64 it program, and do not want to pay for another key to run the 32 bit program. The program i need to run with windows is some little known billing program called therapist pro. I have talked to them and they will not take any responsibility for helping me with getting their program to run correctly.

Office 2003 Won't Run On Win 7 64-bit

I have two new computers that came pre-installed with w7hp 64-bit and both come pre-installed with the obviously non-commercial office 2007 product which we do not want to use. I own copies of office 2003 and want to use those products on the two new computers. I tried loading office 2003 on one pc and got heaps of errors especially trying to run outlook 2003. I am now using thunderbird as it works, and really miss word/excel 2003 - (office 2007 ribbons wah! What were you guys thinking!)

I also have 16-bit test scoring programs and programs written and compiled years ago using quickbasic 4. 5 for specific use in my practice. Any ideas as to how i can get these running on w7?

I understand that there is a professional version of windows 7 that incorporates wow64. Will this allow me to run office 2003 (outlook esp) without errors?

Can i run the qb4. 5 programs with w7pro?

If yes, please advise how i should proceed?

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Dxdiag Problem In 32-bit Mode

I have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit edition, an intel q6600 cpu and a nvidia geforce gts 250 vga card.

When i start dxdiag, i get a long list of error windows, including:

Error: could not get basic display info

Error: could not get basic sound info

Error: problem getting display info

And about a half dozen more. When the dxdiag screen actually shows up, it doesn't display any of my system information. However, once i hit "run 64-bit dixdiag, " it then displays all of my information correctly.

The problem is that i was trying to play galcivii and it won't start because my "drivers are out of date" or something along those lines. (Which they aren't. ) When i read the debug file, it shows the following:

Debug message: version v2. 03 twilight of the arnor last updated on: thu jul 23 11:47:38 2009

Debug message: checking dx version.

Debug message: *********dxdiag info follows. *********

System info

Time: 6/6/2010, 17:07:42

Directx version: directx 9. 0c (4. 09. 0000. 0904)

Machine name: cortana

Operating system: windows professional (6. 1, build 7600) (7600. Win7_gdr. 100226-1909)

Languages: english (regional setting: english)

System manufacturer: system manufacturer

System model: system product name

Bios: phoenix - awardbios v6. 00pg

Processor: intel(r) core(tm)2 quad cpu q6600 @ 2. 40ghz (2 cpus)

Physical memory: 4094mb ram

Page file: 2308mb used, 5878mb available

Windows dir: c:windows

And then it displays some of my video card information. I currently have directx 11 (according to dxdiag in 64-bit mode) and windows 7 ultimate. So, the debug file looks like it's reading my dxdiag 32-bit information, which is either incorrect or non-existent. Any ideas how to get this working?

Cannot Install Xp Mode On Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I am running a legitimate, activated copy of windows 7 pro 64 bit with the latest windows updates applied on a fairly new system. I am needing to install xp mode http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx however i can't get past the activation problem. I select professional 64 bit, english and click on the first button to download xp mode. It requires me to download and run the windows validation components first, but after downloading and running these the message is that they are already installed. They don't get as far a running. How do i actually get the system validated? There's no error other than "windows activation is already installed" and then the installation stops.

How To Put Win 7 64-bit Into Sleep Mode ?

Every since i got this version of windows 7 7 ultimate and installed the 64-bit version over 8 times in the last 14 months i have had nothing but problems from not backing up at all to not going in sleep mode. I was trying to contact microsoft under the "contact us" topic and it brings me here. All i ever here is "let's re-install the operating system". Most of the time it does fix the problem but then another problem is created immediately i have literally spent more time trying to fix it then actually using it it's not the same problem over and over it is always different.

I just re-installed it again and it will not go into sleep mode. I have disabled everything & anything that could wake it from sleep mode. Nothing but the keyboard , mouse, monitor, internet, and power supply are being used. I have tried 4 different mice and 4 different keyboards. Don't they get the hint? There is something wrong with this version it always ends up going to level two support and trying to work on it for 2-3 hours for 3 days. The end result is always the same, re-install the operating system, again.

I'm not trying to get something for nothing, i would just like to get what i paid for. That is why i purchase the ultimate version. As it turns out it is an ultimate headache, ultimate waste of time, and ultimate problems. Just send me a new version. Give me a new product key over the phone. I will gladly give this ultimate worthless version back i have spent hours and hours trying to get this thing to go into "sleep mode" by reading countless forums and when i try to "contact microsoft" i get another forum if it was the same problem over & over i would think it is my computer but it is not. I just upgraded to another motherboard and power supply. I have contacted those manufactures and spent hours with them. Still no solution. I'm starting to think i just may have to ultimately switch operating systems. And thanks for posting the "contact us"button. Just like this version of windows 7 i have, it doesn't work.

Ati Radeon Sapphire 5770 - Win 7 64-bit Asks For 32-bit Drivers

I have windows 7 64 bit. I recently changed my video card for an ati radeon sapphire 5770. I had an nvidia before that stopped working. I installed the lastest drivers from ati for win7 64 bit (version 10. 5) after uninstalling those from nvidia. Everything seems to be working fine, but windows keep telling me that there's no drivers installed for my card, even tho i can access the catalyst control center. When i click on the link that windows provide, it always lead to the 32 bit version of win 7. Is it a known problem? Is there something i can do to correct that?

Multi-boot System Win 7 64-bit & Vista 32-bit On One Hard Drive

Multi-boot system windows 7 (64-bit) & vista (32-bit) on one hard drive - do i need two hard drives?I have an existing windows vista ultimate (32-bit) system installed on a 500gb sata hard drive, partitioned into 2 partitions (c: and d:). I would like to make the system multi-boot so that i can back-track to vista if i have a problem with win7.

One issue here is that i plan on multi-booting vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit on the same hard drive without touching the d: partition of the hard drive. I don't know if this is possible, but i'm interested to see if it is.

I've done some research and have found that win7 has many compatibility modes, so maybe i don't need to worry about keeping an installation of vista on my system? I just don't want to be "caught with my pants down" if something were to go wrong with win7, like if one of my programs was incompatible or something along those lines.

If i can't multi-boot vista 32-bit and win7 64-bit from the same hard drive, can i do it with 2 hard drives having one os on each hard drive? Or, am i being much too paranoid about this and should i trust microsoft on this one that win7 will not have any large compatibility issues with my most used programs?

For reference, here are some of my most used programs: firefox 3. 5, steam, adobe photoshop (versions 7. 0 and cs3), ie tester (for web development), winamp, trillian (an im and irc program), itunes, skype, mozilla thunderbird (for e-mail), and fraps (in-game video recording software).

I know that this is a lot all at once, but does anyone see any foreseen compatibility issues with any of these programs and win7 64-bit ? I'm also worried about the compatibility of some of my drivers with win7 64-bit, but i've heard that there have been leaps and bounds made with driver compatibility on win7 64-bit (as compared to the mess it was with xp 64-bit). Is this true?

Printer Sharing - 64-bit Win 7 And 32-bit Xp In Remote Desktop Session

Printer sharing - 64 bit windows 7 and 32 bit windows xp in a remote desktop session. Windows 7 machine with a local ricoh / aficio 1045 b & w multifunction printer attached. Works fine, uses 64 bit printer driver. This computer connects to a windows xp machine (32 bit) using remote desktop session (terminal services).

On the xp machine, i installed the 64 bit printer driver via printers and faxes -> server properties - drivers - add driver. I can see the driver there, successfully installed (have rebooted, etc). Despite this, the printer will still not show up when rd session is run. In event viewer, i can see there's an issue with it finding the correct driver.

I've used the terminal server printer redirection tool in the past to solve these problems (tspdrw.exe) which works great. The correct 64 bit driver is not listed as a choice when scrolling through options to reassign the driver. Hopefully that is clear, not sure what i am missing.

Xps M1210 Vista 32-bit Drivers Work For Win7 32- Bit ?

Xps m1210 with vista 32 bit- will the drivers for vista 32 bit work for windows 7 32 bit? I have had very little help from dell on this one- so far from what i have found, it sounds like the drivers for vista should work fine for windows 7, but i want to be sure before i install windows 7 on this computer and end up making it useless for days because a wireless card driver wont work or something. Can anyone tell me with certainty if the drivers will or wont work for windows 7?
