Must Be Administrator To Perform This Action

I've recently upgraded my vista to windows 7. Since i updated, i've been encountering multiple issues. My main issue is with administrator privileges. I am the only user on my computer, yet i cannot perform most tasks because "you need to be an administrator to do this". I first got this problem when trying to delete a folder in program files. I changed the owner in the properties, no difference. I moved the file out of program files, no difference. It just won't let me delete this folder.

Now theres 16 gigabytes sat on my desktop, un-deletable. My second problem is now windows live messenger. I cannot install it because im not an administrator. Please can you help, i thought windows 7 would be better but im starting to hate it.

Error - Do Not Have Permission To Save To That Folder

When i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I was a vista user and created these files and folders on 'd' drive. When vista crashed, i began using win7rc for many months and had no problems accessing the folders and files on 'd' drive. Yesterday i installed rtm. Now when i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I am the only user and am an administrator.

I used the same user name on the install of rtm that i had in rc. I did change the computer name during the install of rtm. How can i regain control of my folders. I do not have any trouble reading the files in the folders. I have set up my libraries the same as all user files are in 'd' drive.

Administrator As Only User - Permission Error

I installed windows 7, choosing custom to get maximum benefit over vista. The only user account i have setup is that of an administrator. I have not password protected it yet. I copy/pasted my mcafee program folders from my external hard drive to the programs folder and of course it wont function - i need to reinstall it from their website. When i try to delete the folder it drops an error message: folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action - you require permission from the administrators to make changes to this folder. As far as i can tell i am the only user and the administrator.

Cannot Perform Any Administrator Task

Alright, i am running 32bit win 7 pro os. It was working almost great until now i see these messages everytime i do any administrative action like install, uninstall or run any application. "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect""the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation. ""You do not have sufficient access to uninstall . Application""an unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard cannot continue"i cannot connect to the internet.

I cannot uninstall/install any application i cannot run most of the applications. I cannot run regedit.exe. I cannot even run on safe mode (by pressing f8)  i cannot turn on my firewall. Issue: Cannot Perform Any Task Using One Of The User Accounts

I've just installed windows 7 ultimate on an acer veriton m410. When logged in as administrator, the computer works without any problems. If i log in under my user name, there are several problems that take place. The first issue i noticed is i cannot explore "my computer. " I simply get an empty window and an icon indicating the computer is busy. Eventually, i get an error message that windows explorer needs to be restarted. I am not able to check the contents of my hard drive. In addition, when i try to log off from my user account, the computer stays on the log off screen continuously, and never logs me off. Again, if i am logged in as administrator, i have no problem logging off and shutting down the computer. Ny ideas how i can fix this?

Action Center Security

I was a windows xp user until my computer was destroyed by a trojan virus (that mimicked windows. )  This left me feeling a bit paranoid about downloads. Now i'm using a computer with windows 7 and am having a hard time understanding the security features. Ction center notified me that intel active management technology needs a driver for my chipset. It suggests that i download and install a driver from the dell inc. Website.

My virus protection program shows no threat, so i download the driver, but then my computer makes a click sound and it asks me if i want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to my computer. Why would windows suggest that i download something from an unknown publisher? And why do i get the same notice when i try to open my image editing program, which i installed directly from the program's original cd?If someone would help me understand this security feature, i would appreciate it!

This File Does Not Have Program Associated With It For Performing Action

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control panel. Whenever i download software that is zipped, i get the above message. I'm using avantbrowser as my main browser. If i download with ff, i can work around this message and unzip with my zip program. I'd really like to not have to go through this issue since i do have a zip program installed on my pc. I'm using windows 7 beta - 64 bit.

Action Center False Issues

Currently my windows action center is showing my virus protection and firewall to be turned off which are both false. I run norton 2010 and it's working fine. When i open the action center and click "turn on now" it opens norton but doesn't remove the issue from the action center.

Everything is up to date and i didn't have this problem initially so i'm presuming it's an issue with a recent install. I installed adobe cs4 on a trial a couple of days ago but after a restart the problem wasn't there. When i turned my system on last night it appeared and i can't get resolve it.

Unknown Solution In Action Center

My action center keeps telling me that there's a solution for a problem it encountered. When i try to read the solution, it loads for a while, then it tells me that the solution could not be downloaded with missing internet connection being the most likely cause. This cause guess is obviously wrong because i am online. Yet, the action center only names the most likely cause and absolutely fails in further troubleshooting, something it was created for.

Anyway, can anyone tell me how where to get further information on the problem and solution?

You Need Permission From Trustedinstaller

I just installed window 7. I want to delete "old programs" from my earlier window but i get this message. You need permission to perform this action. You require permission from tom-pc/tom to make changes to this folder".

In the beginning it said "you need permission from trusted installer. " But i changed that by going into properties. Under security tab, i clicked advanced option and clicked owner tab. I changed the trusted-installer to my user-name and administrator but i get the message mentioned above.

Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

File Access Permission

I am moving from an older laptop running xp to a new one which came pre-loaded with windows 7. I am unable to access a folder with all of my previous emails in various sub-folders entitled c:usercomputer administratorlocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlookoutlook. Pst unless i log in as administrator. I went into security under properties in 7 and gave my non-administrator user account full access, yet when i try to open the above folder i am still denied access.

I suppose it has something to do with the "computer administrator" in the file name. How do i go about re-naming this file so it is accessible to the non-administrator user, or is there a better way to make it so that all of my previous email folders are available?

Denied Permission As Administrator

Frequently when using windows 7, i am denied permission to do something. I am told i must have administrator permission. Sometimes, i merely have to click continue to proceed. However, other times, i am just told i don't have the permission and that is the end of the story. I have recently been denied permission to install a new program from a dvd disk. The frustrating thing isi am listed as the administrator. I am the only person using the computer, and it is not part of a network. Does anybody know of a workaround for this problem?

Changing Action Of Media Center Button Of Keyboard

Changing the action of my "start windows media center" button of my keyboard - without drivers! I am using windows 7 on my htpc (home theater pc, if someone isn't familiar with the terminology :)) and i love it so far! However, there is one thing which i'm not in love width - and that's the windows media center.

My keyboard (deltaco tb-220) has a special button from which i can start the wmc, but i'd rather use xbmc (xbox media center). The problem is that there aren't any software from which i can change the function of the special keys!

So, my question is: does anyone know a way to change the "default" media center from wmc to something else? For example with htpc remote controls or keyboards like mine and similar? Perhaps through editing something in the registry?

Program Files Download Permission

I have a new windows 7 laptop (64 bit), and struggling at times to learn how to use it. I'm in the habit on my windows xp desktop, of downloading setup/installer files into program files, where i set things up as follows:

Program files
-Adobe
-Games
-Tetris
-Tetris program
-Tetris installer
-Inkscape
-Inkscape program
-Inkscape installer
-Inkscape tutorial #1

Sorry, i can't figure out how to make a single-space. Hopefully you can see that i put my setup/installer file in its own folder, alongside the program folder, both within what i guess you could call an "umbrella folder". For example you can see that i might also put a tutorial or some other related item - i'm very organized. So when i download, i would put the setup/installer or zip file into 'inkscape installer' or 'tetris installer'.

Then when i install or unzip, i do so into 'inkscape program' or 'tetris program'. That's how i do it on my xp desktop computer, and have been for years. But here in windows 7, when i try to download into program files, i get an error message: "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. " I am the adiminstrator, my user account is the only one on this computer, and it's the adminstrator account!

After spending hours (5 or 6) with dell tech support, finally i am told that in windows 7, manual download directly into program files is not allowed. Files can only be installed directly or moved in after downloading elsewhere. I was ready to accept that and create a new sort of workflow for myself, perhaps keeping my installer files all in one folder, outside of program files. But then, while searching these forums, i came across this thread: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/d2bb7c3c-bf0b-4ea6-8463-42461a56c105

It offers instructions for changing permissions. And i think i can probably follow those instructions without further help. But just before i did, i thought i should ask whether that applies to my particular problem, that i detailed above, including error message. Have i been misinformed by dell (it wouldn't be the 1st time). By following those instructions, will i be able to download in my usual manner? Or at the very least, can i try it relatively safely, without major complications?

I suspect that even if it doesn't solve my problem, it may reduce all the other permission related message boxes that keep popping up - moving files around, etc. I hope so anyway.

Why Windows Will Update Computer Without Permission?

Can anyone tell me why windows will update the computer without your permission. I was in the middle of playing the sims 3, did not save. Windows updated by itself. I lost my whole game i had been playing for 3 hours. Its supposed to prompt you but if your playing a game how can you see the prompt? Thats not fair. I'm sure there is some setting i don't know about possibly but that doesn't help me now. It should never restart on its own, well i guess i should have bought a mac. Your right windows its my fault. Should have just thrown you out the window and bought a mac.

Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?
