Dual Monitor Support

I got windows 7 professional rtm through msdn. I have a 19" samsung and a 26" samsung monitor (t260hd and 941bw). When i start windows 7 with both monitors attached, it boots on both monitors, then goes black at the login screen. If i boot with either monitor plugged in solo, it works fine. Last, if i start with one, then plug the second one in on the fly, it automatically defaults to my 19"- the display manager shows both as active, and i can drag windows over to the invisible second desktop- but i can't see it. I installed the latest nvidia drivers for my 7600gt and installed the drivers that come with both monitors. I'm out of ideas. Can you guys help me out?

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was running vista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen and the monitor itself says there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing is my pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Dual Monitor

Is there any option available with using dual monitor in a "stretched" view instead of extended? What i'm trying to do is run 1 application over my 2 monitors in full screen mode. So far i haven't found anything that would make this possible. I can extend and i can enlarge a window over 2 monitors but i can't really use a resolution of ~3200 * 1050 for example. This was possible under xp but neither vista or windows 7 i can get this to work.

I've tried searching the forums but alas i have not found an answer for this. If someone can find a topic already covering this sorry for double posting. But mostly i found extending and not really stretching it over 2 screens.

Dual Monitor Help

Dell couldn't seem to solve my problem, so i'm desperately in need of help. I have a dell inspiron 580, i3 processors. The machine has one vga output, and hdmi. I want to run two monitors, so dell informed me to buy a second vid card. I did, installed a raedon jd2600 pro 512mb with two dvi connections and one dvi adapter. I hooked both monitors up, and it will either run one monitor on the ati card, or one on the intel card, but i cannot extend the display. I was on the dell support line for over an hour, and  they told me to just go buy another dvi adapter and plug it in. So if that's true, i cant run two cards?

Multiple Monitor Support

I really love windows 7's feature of being able to drag a window to the left or right top half and then the window resizing to that half side. However, with a dual monitor setup, this is impossible to do on the inside halfs of the monitors . I have 2 monitors 1 and 2. On the right half of 1 and left half of 2, i cannot drag and resize to those areas. I can on the left half of 1 and the right half of 2. The above is copied from another post that i could not reply too!  I am curious if there is a planned fix for this?

Support Multiple Monitor

One wonders if the lack of adequate multiple monitor support on vista will be rectified in windows 7? Additionally if the audio issues with recording aspects for professional musicians will mean we will still either have to keep xp on a separate computer or in dual boot mode? Any information from microsoft will be appreciated.

For example - i can play a dvd on xp and stretch it across 3 monitors, i can use cubase 2, 3, 4 and 5 on xp and have individual mixers, edits and vst's in separate windows. On vista the only version that does not crash at some point is cubase 5 studio. With games, on xp i can get them to stretch over 3 monitors. Vista hardly plays any game older than 18 months and won't stretch jack - xp's compatibility mode works much better. Will windows 7 enable this or do i have to use virtual pc xp? The only way i have managed to get wallpapers to stretch is with ultramon.

Yes i have a quad processor with 8 gb ram, 2 tb hdd space, 1gb nvidia graphics card and no issues with anything except the operating environment. And last microsoft - while it's only aesthetics, will the dreamscapes etc - aero - etc if desired by end users to have installed, be available as extra downloads for the non ram conservative users?

Issue With Dual Monitor

I have an i7 machine running windows 7 - 32. It has an nvidia 9400 gt video card and i am having an issue when i open word or notepad in the second monitor. Once i maximize the program on the second monitor, the mouse becomes unresponsive when in the primary monitor. If i manage to move the mouse back to the second monitor, the problem stops and as soon as i move the application to the main monitor the problem stops also. I am baffled about this issue since i have never seen anything like this. I have all the latest drivers for my hardware and all of them are for windows 7.

Win 7 Dual Monitor Issues

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on a dell latitude notebook computer. When it is docked i have dual external monitors. My primary monitor is dvi and the secondary monitor is vga. Recently i have noticed that my primary display is darker than my secondary display. I checked my brightness and contrast controls on both monitors and they are set properly. The weird part is that my mouse pointer is the same brightness on both monitors, but the applications and desktop appear to be faded on my primary monitor. What would cause this? What settings should i check?

Win 7 Dual Monitor Issue

Weird issue. Before upgrading to windows 7 i have two 19inch monitors i use, they worked brilliant at 1440x900 res. There are same in everyway (no sure on make or model) the issue is, when i upgraded to windows 7 and wanted to setup duel monitors one monitor was fine at the 1440x900 res but the other one was not allowing me to go higher then 800x600 plus windows 7 description of the monitor was 17inch? Now first thing was to of course check drivers. So i did i am running a 9600gso nvi. So i made sure i have windows 7 (64bit) drivers installed. Tried this twice. Tried using the normally windows drivers. No luck. Next thing was to uninstall generic pnp monitors. Tried that and no luck.

Next thing i tried was to plug the monitor having the issue in on its own. This allowed me to get 1440/900 but when linking second monitor up, didn't detect anything, restarted the computer and same issue as before.

Dual Monitor, Unable To Save Error

I have had windows 7 installed on my computer for a few months. I use a hp pavioion zd8000 laptop. I also have a lg w2242to flatscreen monitor. In the past, extending my monitor was easy and worked just as described for windows 7. Recently i detached my laptop to go to a meeting. When i returned i hooked up my monitor and i now get an "unable to save" message when i try to extend my monitor. I can use one or the other monitor, but not both.

I have uninstalled the monitor driver and tried system restore with no success. Is there something that can be done so that both monitors can be functional at the same time again.

My graphics card is an ati readon x600 which has worked fine with the two monitors under xp and for a few months under win7. I did uninstall the driver for the graphics card too and reinstalled, but that did not help.

Media Center In Dual Monitor / Tv Setup

I'm trying to setup a htpc using windows 7. What i'd like to accomplish is to have a dual monitor/tv setup where wmc is running on one monitor and xbmxc is running on the other. However it doesn't seem like i able to run both programs at the same time, each on it's own monitor/tv. Whenever i change to full screen mode, one of them goes blank. Is there something in windows 7 that prevents me from running two directx programs in fullscreen mode at the same time?

The pc i'm using is configured with two ati graphics card connected to the tv using hdmi.

Fn Keys On Win 7 And Vga With Dual Monitor

Okay so i just installed windows 7 last night and was looking forward to plugging in my laptop (hp latitude d600) into my 32" lcd in my room via a vga cable. Which worked on my previous os of windows xp. However it is now not working when i plug the cables in and i can't find where to tell the computer to use the vga link. On top of all that i tried using fn f8 to solve that problem to make it go crt/lcd but my fn keys are now not functioning. I googled it and used the hotfix they provided but that also did not work. Ideas?

Dell 540 Dual Monitor Video Driver Issue

I upgraded to windows 7 64 bit from vista 64 bit on my dell 540 studio desktop. I have dual monitors. I downloaded the recommend driver from the dell site but system keeps shutting down. At first i was getting critical message "no suitable graphics card" found. If i rebooted, everything would work ok. I tried working with microsoft support on multiple occasions and this is still "unresolved". Now my second monitor won't stay on. Keeps going in analog save mode! What do i do next? I had no problems with vista! Dell offered to help if i paid another $200.

Media Center Dual Monitor Multi Seat Setup

I am trying to configure my media center pc to work with two monitors, one is my tv, the other is a standard pc monitor. In this way i am hoping to use media center on the tv and surf and play on the other screen at the same time. I have encountered two problems. 1. Media center will not let me select a different sound card from default. Some applications including i believe windows media player will let you do this. 2. Media center when made full screen captures the mouse and keyboard. I hope i can get around this with a media center remote to control the tv while i use the mouse and keyboard on the other screen.

I can take back control with the windows key, but i have to give back control to use media center. Hopefully with the remote i can control media center while keeping control of the keyboard and mouse. I am reading this may or may not work. Ideally i would hope that microsoft could address these issues, as they seem rather trivial and would enable our over powered multi-core pc's to be more useful, its a waste for all that power just to watch tv. I have been assured on multiple forums that microsoft does not care and will do nothing to fix this.

This is an unfortunate sentiment to have in the community and i challenge microsoft to prove them wrong. Seeing as i have had great luck reporting issues to apple and having them fixed within a reasonable time, i thought i might give it a shot with microsoft and see if i had any luck. Is this the best way to contact microsoft about these issues? Are there other contacts i can try? I would love to be able to select a playback device in media center other then the default as well as being able to control media center with the remote while maintaining separate keyboard control. Please make this happen microsoft and prove your customers wrong, that you do care.

Can't Use Dual Monitor With Win 7 64-bit Geforce 9800gt

This has been an unsolved issue for me since i installed windows 7 last year. I've read numerous articles, none of which have solved the problem. I have windows 7 64-bit installed on a core 2 duo 2. 2 ghz, 2gb ram, and using a geforce 9800gt video card.

Problem: as soon as i connect a second monitor (dvi to hdmi or dvi to vga) the original monitor goes black and there is no display on the 2nd, newly connected, display. If i disconnect the second display, the 1st monitor remains black until restart. Note: i had both connected during the original install and the install could not finish as the monitors went blank, so i had to reinstall with only 1 monitor connected.

I have the latest nvidia drivers installed and all critial updates installed. How can this be solved?

Snap Feature Does Not Work On Inside Of Dual Monitor Setup

I have windows 7 home premium x64 fully updated. So far it's great. But i have two monitors, primary 1440x900 and secondary 1280x1024 with the secondary monitor on the right of the primary monitor. When i try to "snap" a window to the edge of either monitor that is next to the other monitor, nothing happens. I was wondering if this was a typical problem people were having or if it was just me and if there was any way to make it work or if there was a patch for it. (Google chrome's built-in "snap" feature can use the inside of the monitors).

Support Overload

I haven't even had this version of windows for a year and my "support" for my activation has apparently expired. Are there that many problems with windows 7 that when i've finally reached the end of my patience rope and gave in and tried to ask them they won't talk to me for less than $50? That is a rip off. Your operating system doesn't work and you won't provide customer support?

I can't even print a letter of complaint to mail to bill gates because windows has been trying to "automatically detect" a printer driver that was already installed for over an hour now. Good to know bill has hours to sit stuck at his desk because something has to be printed & faxed today and the *#@& printer that worked yesterday won't work today.

Where Is The Microsoft Support?

Cannot connect via wireless router "problem with wireless adaptor or access point", first of all i would like to thank joelbx for the effort he is putting in to solve my wireless connection problem
But where is the microsoft employers support i have had no help from your company. From what i can understand the microsoft drivers and adaptor are not compatible with many routers.

I’d like answers from microsoft as it’s a software problem a microsoft windows 7 problem. I have been browsing through other posts with related topics and it is very obvious i am one of many with the same problem and the problem for all users points straight back to a problem with new computers installed with windows 7.

Phone Support

I installed windows 7 on top of vista sp2 expecting better performance. No dice. I'm having myriad problems-menus sticking, erratic sound schemes, programs not responding, etc. I've searched forums for answers to my problems with little results. So i put in a call for tech help about two weeks ago. Began working with a tech, but after 2 hrs. Needed to schedule a call back. Since then, no luck.microsoft says they've called me at times i've agreed upon, but i have agreed upon nothing! When i do tell them a time and they agree, they don't call! I ask for managers who assure me techs will call, but they don't. I'm at wit's end. Is there really phone support for windows 7?

Alcohol 120% Support

Why microsoft windows 7 does not support virtual drive tools like alcohol 120%, daemon tools, ultra iso, etc. It also does not support most of the games. I am using the beta version of windows 7 on my system. My system is having "intel core 2 duo processor 2. 53 ghz, 2 gb ddr2 667 mhz ram, 320 gb seagate at 7200 rpm, msi 945 nvidia chip set mother board, microsoft keyboard and mouse.

I had tried to install virtual tools, but in vain. Windows 7 doesn't support it. When i install the game rise of nations from microsoft, the message was displayed on the screen. It says "application has encountered the problem. Closing the application". I hope you will look after my query and will find out the solution to this.

I hope windows 7 will be  as user friendly as your windows xp operating system.

Laserjet Printer Support

In october, 2009, i upgraded my operating system from windows vista to windows 7. Before the update i connected my hp laserjet 4/4m plus printer via a parallel to usb cable. My current system is an hp pavillion that does not have a parallel port. The parallel to usb connection with vista worked fine. However, the connection did not work under windows 7. I added the laserjet printer on the 'devices and printers' screen. When i tried to print a document, the document did not print and 'went into a black hole'.

I thought i would try a pci adapter card and called the hp support line to verify that this connection would or would not work. I was told that microsoft does not have a fix/software drivers for windows 7 that would allow the laserjet 4/4m plus printer to work under windows 7. Is this correct?  I have used this printer for several years and want to continue its use because of its reliability and print quality. If anyone knows of a solution, please let me now.

Pc Speaker / Beeper Support

I am writing a computer program that plays . Wav files through the built-in pc speaker, and yet when i run it, it either chokes up mid-way or doesn't seem to work at all. I know this program worked on an xp machine and was able without any problems to output music from the beeper (even if it sounded as if it was coming from the inside of a tin can :). Has windows 7 abandoned direct access to old hardware like the pc speaker, is it emulated, or what is stopping it from working properly? I know that my program is accessing the hardware in the correct manner, so what's up?

Enable Bidirectional Support

I have installed a printer/fax to the main computer on my home network. It is working fine on this computer which is vista, the laptops are both windows 7. I successfully installed it onto one laptop through the network and am able to print from the laptop. The other laptop, although it installs it, (through add printer and network) wont allow me to print. Shows error 0x0000000d. I have tried installing it locally as suggested in the forum, and as before, it installs but wont print. Tells me to. Enable bi directional support.

When i go into ports, it wont allow me to click onto this. I have even tried installing directly from the cd using the usb cable. Once again it installs but wont print and tells me to turn on bi directional support. How can i turn it on if it is greyed out? All the drivers and networking settings are set correctly. When i attempt to print, the message comes up unable to connect to printer, turn on bi directional support. This is greyed out though.

Online Help And Support Not Working

When i run help & support off the start menu & type a search term & run a search it only finds the installed search results. It can't find the online ones. All i get is this message:-

You're not connected to online help, which shows you our latest content. Check your internet connection, and then try to connect to online help again. If you still see this message, the online help service might be temporarily unavailable.

I have ticked the online help tick box & of course i am connected to the internet which is how i am sending this. I have disabled windows firewall & norton with no result. I have also ran sfc. This has been for a while now so is more than "temporary unavailable". I cannot think of anything else that is preventing this.

Contacting Support For Halo

I bought halo when it first came out a long time ago. Thing is i was new with computers, and i accidentally threw away the cd key ( it was in a stupid place on a cd pamphlet) anyways when this happened a couple of years ago. I asked for support, which was easy to get  back in the day. Anyways instead of the support person giving me a valid cd key.

Someone sent me an anonymous email stating.

Hey i was hearing from a buddy of mine at microsoft that you cd keys. He gave me a huge list of them and told me to say that the issue was fine and to close the case. I was still knew with computers and i had no clue that he was giving me fake cd keys. One of them worked but now doesn't.

How do i go about getting a real cd key? I don't want to pay 20 bucks for a game i already bought.
I cant find a way to talk to microsoft support. They only have support for halo 2.

Media Player Help And Support

My windows media player doesn't allow me to make a playlist. When i rip a cd, make my changes i then drag it into the playlist and nothing happens. I just doesn't move as a single file or a batch when all is selected. I did everything i could think of then went to help and got the following message: "you're not connected to online help, which shows you our latest content. Check your internet connection, and then try to connect to online help again. If you still see this message, the online help may be temporarily unavailable. "

My connection is very good and a friend checked and online help is available. I did restart computer and also my modem as a "what the heck" effort and all is the same.

So really there are 2 problems.

1) media player, new with this computer which i bought about 1 month ago
2) online help and support which i can't reach through the media player or the start button-both routes give same message.

My internet hookup is working well. Got any ideas?

Shutdown Errors & Support

This seems to be a recurring theme on all the win 7 forums, the machine won't shut down properly. Select shut down, screens goes to the "shutting down" view, but the circle icon freezes after a few seconds and the machine hangs.

When i reboot, windows does not report a failure, it just boots normally and works fine, but come shut down, problems again.

This is happening everytime i use the machine, though sometimes i get the odd bsod thrown in at shut down as well, just for good measure.

I have used the internal checking within win 7 to try to find the issue, but nothing works, i don't want to have to re-install win 7 ultimate, a couple of weeks after installing it, but that is looking like the only option and that is not guaranteed to fix the issue.

I have tried to contact microsoft through their online "help & support" forum, but they say my version of win 7 ultimate is not activated (yes it is), then when i enter my product code, it says because i am not registered, i have to pay £45 for 1 hour of support.

Me pay them to have them fix a problem with their software! I thought vista was bad, this is just vista 1. 5 with bugs, should l have stuck to vista.

Anybody got any ideas on what is causing this, as lots of people are seeing this issue, yet no support answers seem to give a resolution

System specs are

Win 7 ultimate
Quad core processer
6gb of ram
2 x 512mb nvidia graphic cards working in sli mode
2 x 1tb sata hdd
28" hd monitor
