System Won't Install Automatic Update Kb973688

Having a repeated problem with this installation. I receive a: code 643 windows update encountered an unknown error. This also applies to kb954430. I've come across other info on this site to fix this problem but so far with no success. (http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/vistawu/thread/f4bd0a46-a7aa-407b-b64b-f8517fd4ed7f)

I've read the article on this issue. I've downloaded the update and tried to install manually but that didn't work. The info said press the ignore button but i don't get this option. The only option is an ok button at which point the installation rolls back. I've tried updating the windows update component by using the microsoft "fixit" program but i get the same error: an error occurred during the installation of assembly component

{7b2b4ea5-1028-b7e6-a06b-d6b9abf34537}.
Hresult:0x80073712.

The setup dialog has the status as: publishing product information

I then tried to uninstall the msxml4 file by going to the remove programs in the control panel but it states that there are no updates on the computer. Probably got wiped out by one of the pc "cleaners" i've used (ccleaner and the such). Other than this problem, the machine is up-to-date and all other updates have installed successfully. Also tried it with the firewall and antivirus turned off. This is a six week old machine running windows 7 64.

System Crash After Automatic Update

An automatic update to windows was installed tuesday jan 19 when i shut-down my computer. The screen requested that i allow the update to complete before turning off the system. I returned to the computer 2 hours later to find that the update was still 'in-progress' i turned the machine off and re-booted. Upon reboot the system is unresponsive. There is continuous disk activity and 99 percent memory usage but only 3 percent cpu usage. The desktop takes almost 5 minutes to appear - when i select windows explorer the system freezes and will not respond to anything other than the power button. When i restart i receive a window that states there was an abnormal termination.

I am given the option to enter 'safe boot'. The system does not respond - instead it waits 25 seconds and then does a normal start. The process is repeated each time i attempt to start the machine. I have rebooted in excess of 10 times with the same result. I attempted to use the system repair disk i created when i installed windows 7 home premium - the system asks if i want to boot from the dvd - i respond 'yes' and nothing happens - after some period of time it reverts to a normal start.

I have called microsoft support 10 times - i have been cut-off 3 times, mid sentence and have received a flawed recording 7 times - the recording starts ok and then starts repeating a partial sentence over and over.

Automatic Update Error

My other computer is currently running win7 home 64-bit has a startup error. I am assuming it has done an automatic windows update as it worked fine last night. Started it this morning and just as it gets to the windows loading screen i get the message "applying update operation 50 of 50 (registrymachinecomponents. )"The screen is frozen at this point and will not load windows. I have tried rebooting but it does nothing but offer loading windows normally (which goes back to this) or doing a startup repair, which then fails, reboots and back to this. I cant get into windows or a desktop at all. Anyone help please?

Failed Automatic Update

I tried to update the latest microsoft updates last thursday and after 4 hours the system froze, so i canceled job and went to sign off and got the usual message "updates being applied" and 12 hours later it was still on 1 of 14, so i powered off. I then went back in and found that all updates had failed. I can not find a way to try and reinstall the updates, and when ever i try to sign off it says "installing updates 1- xxx and just stays like that for hours. Had lunch with a friend yesterday, who told me she had same problem as well as another friend that she spoke to. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

How To Pause An Automatic Update?

I am currently in the middle of a windows automatic update download (for vista). I have dial-up internet access so downloads of this nature tend to be very slow.concurrent with this i am trying to download another (large) program via the internet. Progress on this other program has virtually stalled and i'm thinking that the on-going windows download maybe an obstacle to my other download. Given this i would like to "pause" my windows activity until i can complete the other.

How can i do this (i try right clicking/left clicking on the windows download icon at the lower right task bar but nothing pops up to facilitate a pause. ) I see that this option for a pause is not available w/xp, is it the same with vista? If so, what if i changed "automatic updates for windows" to "manual updates for windows" - would this allow me to pause it. If so would the conversion to manual take effect immediately w/the current download?

Automatic Updates Stopped System Restore From Working

On 1/13/2010 after turning on my dell xps 410 with vista home premium operating system i received a notice the the ms (microsoft)automatic update requested to download kb972270, kb977839, kb905866, and kb890830. I agreed. The download and installation proceeded without any issues. I did not receive a notice the computer needed to be rebooted. After completing my work i shut the computer down without any issues. On 16 jan 2010 i turned the computer back on and the boot up could not get past the ms timing bar that appears at the bottom of the screen. As previously when this happens i would do a hard restart and a screen would appear stating that my computer did not start properly and that ms repair would start in 30 seconds to repair the problem if not instructed otherwise. I let it proceed assuming it was one of the four above updates that was causing the problem. However. This time when the clock ran down to start the display blanked and flashed a few times and the same restart window appeared with the 30 seconds clock once again counting down; i was in an endless loop.

I attempted a number of restarts without success. I referred to the computer owner's manual which relayed that my final solution would probably be to use the ms or dell system restore disk which would wipe the hard drive. I inserted the ms vista system restore disk and instructed the computer to reboot from the cd/dvd drive. ( I think it was the f11 or f12 key that you need to press within the first few second of system boot-up; check your owners manual. ) Happily, i found an option "repair system" which i selected and the "restore" window appeared. I ran restore and it turned the system back to 1/13/2010 when i last successfully logged on. My computer is now back up and running. However, i continue to receive notices to download these four updates; but i am not sure which one is producing the problem.

Automatic Update Notification Of Old Updates

I reinstalled xp professional and office 2003, then retrieved what i thought was all the updates. My system shows that i have sp3 for both. I received an automatic update notice this week that included approx. 26 updates for office 2003, office 2007 related to compatibility and others. When i go to the link for many of them, they have a publish date in 2008. Ironically i did the reinstall in december of 2009.

I don't appear to have these fixes/updates when i look at add/remove programs but my question is why am i just now getting these updates.

Automatic Update Tried To Kill Computer

The only thing installed yesterday was a windows vista automatic update. I turned off my laptop, and when i got home i tried to boot it up. Windows would not start up in normal mode, so i booted up safe mode, scanned with my antivirus, antimalware. Etc. And found nothing. So i used system recovery and set the laptop back to the day before thinking maybe something odd had snuck in. It worked fine, so i thought it was good. I created a new recovery poin, re-installed the windows update and shut down.

Turned it on this morning to find it had the same problem. I booted back up in safemode, used system recovery again and used the recovery point i had set right before i downloaded the windows updates and now everything works fine. I've disabled the automatic updates and i havent had any problems since.

Does anyone know why the windows update is trying to kill my computer? The auto-updates run all the time and i've never had this problem before.

Internet Explorer Does Not Work After Automatic Update

Windows xp with sp3 is downloading the updates for kb972270 and kb955759. They seem to install fine, but when i reboot and go into ie, i immediately get a windows error. (Sorry, did not get the error code. ) After removing both thru the control panel, add/remove programs, ie works fine. But xp will immediately download the updates again. Another xp with sp3 is working fine. Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but according to the add/remove program list, it appears that kb955759 was installed first and then kb972270. With the other pc, kb972270 appears first in the list.

No problems with any other programs, just ie.

If i try to change windows update settings, it displays an error message saying, "security center can't change your automatic update settings". This error message does not cite any number. As suggested to somebody in the forum with a similar problem, i tried a virus and malware scan, the result: no viruses or malware detected. Every other suggestion i found does not get me anywhere. What do you suggest?

Latest Update Screwed System

The latest updates that i downloaded really screwed with my system. Even though i've used "restore" to go back, the system is still displaying the problem. Problem being, system has now slowed to somewhat of a crawl brought on by every couple of seconds the mouse pointer changes, changes to that spinning circle indicating that the system is busy doing something, then it quits, then goes right back and does it again after a couple of seconds, this is to the point to where everything i load up, like ie, takes an incredible amount of time.

The updates that i downloaded, and then went back on using "restore", are "cujulative update for media center for windows 7 (kb981078)", "microsoft .net framework 3. 5 sp1 update for windows 7 x86 (kb982526)", "microsoft .net framework 4 client profile for windows 7 x86 (kb982670)", "update for windows (kb980846)", update for windows 7 (kb982519). I thought possibly that the update just went bad on one system and decided to try it on another system of mine, and the exact same thing happens. My other system got to the point to where i just said "screw it" and i'm in the process of going back to factory setup/install.

I'm posting this as a warning to all that may want to download the updates, i would suggest not to until things get worked out "mho", and hoping that possibly someone could help me out with a fix (if there is one), and to hopefully draw ms attention to the possibility of something going wrong here in there updates. I would appreciate any feedback. Man, even while typing this out the pointer is doing that and causing me to take much longer to post this topic.

Driver Update Via System Image Recovery Problem

Driver update via system image recovery. Not enough disk-space on "virtual"x: drive. Trying to upgrade my computer with windows 7. The following problem occurs. After trying to reboot, the screen says starting services. The screen flickers and a message appears with windows 7 encountered and unexpected problem. After that the system hangs. After googling, i've figured that the ati driver is the problem.

I wanted to repair this with system image recovery, using the driver install option says there isn't a system image yet. I can load a file and try to install this driver but a message appears with not enough disk space. When going to the explorer (still in system image recovery) i see a new disk x: with only about 38 mb disk space and about 2 mb free.

Unable To Install Network Printer In 64-bit System

I have tried to install 3 different network printers (all new- 2 hp & one lexmark) for windows 7 64 bit on a home office network behind a linksys cable modem firewall router with all of them failing to successfully install so that they can print. They get to the point of printing the test page at which time the test page gets locked up in the queue.

The printers install fine on the windows xp computers and i am able to print from them and they work as advertised. I have checked and followed the windows 7 install guidance on each machine (several times). To include new hp drivers and removing previous install attempts. For each of them it is possible to log in on the ip from the windows 7 machine. For each of them it is possible to select the device to print to but the documents jam up in the queue. I have gone through the windows troubleshooting and the hp troubleshooting guidance. I was also online with hp for 4 hours. There are several comments about what appear to be identical problems, some resolved with new patch? Others not solved. Can anyone identify what might be the problem(s)?

Install Update Bug

I've install windows 7 and like it's excitement, i install the update, but i found that the problem is in the networking. Suddenly i cannot connect to the internet using my broadband connection, the troubleshooting is i have to disable my lan, and try to repair the trouble, and it can connect again to the net. But, if i don't install the update, it can connect anytime without doing the "ritual", i've try to restore the system earlier before the update. Any suggestion or the update is really a bug?

Cannot Install Update Kb951847

Enough people seem to be having trouble with this automatic update. I get error 8007 0663 and . 0643. The offered solution is usually to uninstall all versions of dot net (2. 0, 3. 0 and 3. 5) then start all over again. I did that once a year or so ago with the help of an ms support person. It took hours. I feel like maybe this is the easiest answer, rather than the right answer. I don't want to have to take a day off every time dot net fails. Actually, i don't even have a problem except that the update wont run. I compared automatic updates on my two computers.

The other computer never got this update, so why did the one with the problem download it. This update seems fairly old. Did it think it needed to try to refresh dot net? My automatic updates - even to dot net have been running just fine. I can't find a way in the update program to turn this update off. Is there a way to delete the downloaded copy which it keeps using, and try a fresh download. This computer was also rerunning kb982168 and reporting it successful each time. Now it seems to be back in the queue and maybe waiting for the problem update to complete. Nybody have an idea how to get this update downloaded clean so i can try to run it? Or any other ideas?

Update Kb976422 Will Not Install

Windows update kb976422 will not install for me. Every time i run "update" it tells me that the update is an optional install for my system. Every time it runs i observe little cpu or disk activity. The update task never completes. If i run the update during the shut down process, the pc eventually shuts down (long after i'm asleep) but still is listed as an optional update after a restart. I am running windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) with 6 gb of ram, 2. 2 tb of disk (raid 5, though os is not on the raid device) with all other updates successfully installed. The windows troubleshooter did not find a problem or suggest a way to proceed. Is there some way to fix this, or should i just live without it?

2.0 Net Framework Error - Cannot Install On A 64-bit Operating System

Neighbor purchased a dell inspron 400 (zinohd): amd athlon2850e (1. 8ghz, 512k), 3gb ddr2 sdram at 800mhz, 320gb serial ata hard drive (7200rpm), windows 7, service tag 2858hk1

He had a number of problems that i have helped him cure. But one issue remains. Each time he turns on the computer he gets a notification that he needs to load and run .net framework 2. 0. However, when he goes to the referenced site and tries to download and run the program he gets an error message stating: "error: cannot install on a 64 bit operating system. " Ignoring this message doesnt appear to adversely affect the operation of the system but he has not used the computer for long and he fears there may be issues downstream.

He is an older gentleman, not at all computer savy and has been very frustrated by this and his inability to get help from dell or microsoft. He is considering returning the product.

In an effort to help him out, i have looked into this problem through the internet. I am an experienced pc user and can normally handle most issues like this but im not yet familiar with windows 7. I understand that windows 7 includes the .net framework 3. 5. 1 as an os component. I believe this means you will get the .net framework 2. 0 sp2, 3. 0 sp2 and 3. 5 sp1 plus a few post 3. 5 sp1 bug fixes.

Thus, you don't need to manually download .net framework 2. 0 and install it on windows 7. I have run the verification tool found on the internet by searching cannot install on a 64 bit operating system " 2. 0 net framework on google to verify the existence of these .net framework versions. The all are verified successfully. How can we eliminate the initial popup notification from appearing at power-on? What am i missing?
