Fixing Cd/dvd Drive

My cd drive has been missing for several weeks, and do not know exactly when it disappeared. I went through the deleting upper and lower filters as most places say, then rebooting, and it didn't help. I have created a new reg file and merged, and that brought the drives back, but they did not show that a cd was in. It has since disappeared again, and i do not have lowerfilters.

I have tried system restore, but i always get an error code because it "cannot access the file". I have updated the firmware from the dell website, and ran several different virus scans. Itunes and my computer say the drive is missing, but device manager says it is functioning correctly and completely updated. My dvd drive is there, it is only the cd drive. I am running windows 7, and have a dell inspiron 1750.

Also, i checked my brothers computer, who has the same set-up, and his registry files are all identical to mine, and his drive works just fine.

Problem After Fixing A Corrupted User Profile

Today i followed the ms directions for fixing a corrupted user profile for windows 7 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile), which was recommended to resolve certain issues with ms office failing to update. After following the instructions and logging into the new profile (after copying the indicated files from the old profile), i receive the following error message when i try to open explorer or anything that invokes explorer (documents, control panel, pictures, etc. ):  "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file.

You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. "Some other apps open normally, such as word (although it opened as a new install, stepping me through initial setup), but other apps throw a variety of errors. The error does not occur in other user profiles, including the old profile. I'd appreciate any help.

Dvd Drive Disappeared

My dvd drive disappeared even though i stopped making virtual dvd drives for iso images. I thought upgrading to windows 7 might resolve the 2 problems rpc sever is unavailable and the dvd drive not detected. I upgraded to ultimate as my computer is windows vista home basic. Its compaq. Sorry for bad spelling. When i want to make a partition rpc server is unavailable. Dvd drive is not in device manager. The hardware and devices troubleshooter thinks i have no dvd drive. I have no iso imaging programs now but i need one.

Dvd-rw Drive Disappeared

I install a antivirus software in my laptop and then suddenly my dvd-cd-rw drive disappear. I have a vista premium and after i understand that the antivirus is for window xp. I don't see the driver when i go in to my computer. In the device manager there is no dvd drive. There is "a" drive and i uninstall the software and restart my computer twice; but the dvd-cd-rw drive did not come back.

I then reboot my computer, lost everything, the software came only that day and did not work properly because it only work with a cd not a dvd. But by the next day it gone again. So i don't wont to reboot my computer again because it will eliminate 10gb of my hard disk space. So my question is whats next?

Cd/dvd Drive Has Gone Missing

I have a new computer with windows 7 professional 64 bit and everything was fine but now my cd/dvd drive has gone missing. It's nowhere to be found in explorer and if i insert a cd or dvd nothing happens. I tried the troubleshooter but it tells me i don't have a cd/dvd drive. It's also not listed in device manager. I'm a complete non-techie type of person but was wondering if my drive has just gone kaput or maybe one of the leads internally has become disconnected. The computer is only about 3 months old. I have done all the updates that have been recommended. I would love it if someone could give me some ideas about fixing this.

Dvd Drive Is Very Slow

I encountered another problem with my dvd drive " it does not work properly, as i can see root folder of dvd disk, but if i try to open any sub-folder or copy any file from root folder it freezes. For instance, i tried to start ms office 2007 installation from dvd but can't even execute setup.exe from root folder (was patiently waiting for 1+ hour).

After some research on the internet, i removed upper filter settings from windows registry (there is no lower filter). It helped a little bit, so i can see content of sub-folders (after 5-10 mins of waiting) but, still can't execute anything. Appreciate your help to fix it.

Computer details:

Msi p35 platinum, q6600, 4 gb ram, samsung sh222a, few sata hdds, nvidia geforce 9800 gtx
Windows 7 ultimate x64 (clean install from retail box)

Peripherals setup

Ide:
Master: internal dvd-rw, samsung sh222a
Slave: none
Sata:
Sata 3-7 various hdds (all seagate of various capacity from 750 gb to 1. 5 tb)
Raid: ide
P. S. The same setup works fine with windows xp

Ps. There are few files in sub-folders (winxp opens them in milliseconds). Also, i checked ide controllers, dma is enabeled for all drivers. Even log on win7 indicates tons of "error on cd drive during paging operation" events (no errors on winxp).

P. S. Cd cable is standard 40 pin, labeled as "ide cd cable" by manufacturer (asus). I've tried dvd in slave and cable select mode.

Dvd Rom And Rw Drive Not Detected

I installed fresh copy (no upgrade) of windows 7 last night and after the installation finish, i notice both drives were missing from my computer.

Dell dimension 9200
Missing drives - pbds- dvd+-rw dh-16w1s and tsst corp dvd-rom ts-353b

Under device manager - they appear with an !Exclamation! Over them, there is no window 7 drivers  on the dell support website for my computer. I have attempted to do the firmware upgrade but tsdnwin reports drive not found. I have deleted the drives from devices manager and shutdown then disconnect and reconnect the cables and boot, and the problem is still here. I have try diagnostics built into windows 7 and it didn't work. Drives are showing up in my bios, while booting. Is there anything else i can try?

Dvd-rom Drive Vanished

I am running windows 7 on my toshiba satellite a205-s7464. It ran vista native, however, i had been running windows xp for the past six months as my vista install kept corrupting. I have had many hardware issues with this system. Just in december i had my hd-dvd drive replaced. It worked fine for awhile, however, it was spotty here and there where discs would get stuck, wouldn't read, wouldn't burn, etc.

I was trying to install a program today and mid-install my entire computer froze. After rebooting my cd was stuck in the drive. I used a safety pin to get it out. Now it only ejects with a safety pin. It doesn't read any discs. In the bios it doesn't show my optical drive as existing. It shows up in device manager, but not in administrative tools - computer management. It doesn't read. Doesn't spin. Doesn't eject. Doesn't attempt at all.

I did a system restore, did an edit in the registry suggested on a website i found, deleted and reinstalled the drive. In device manager, windows tells me that my drive exists, is functional, and is up to date. However, my drive doesn't show up anywhere else.

I can take it to bestbuy, of course, but i really need to keep this for class. I'm pretty tech savvy and willing to try to do stuff myself, but sometimes i need a pointer on how to do it.

Dvd Drive Stopped Working

I have had windows 7 premium home edition 64-bit on my computer for probably around 6 months now with no problems. Just this past week i went to put a cd in the cd/dvd drive and the drive wouldn't open. Now the computer says that it cannot find a cd/dvd drive plugged into the computer and to check and make sure that it is plugged in. After spending hours on the internet i couldn't find a solution. However, i did notice that when the computer powers on, the drive does work.

I can open the drive and the light blinks and all. About 5 seconds into the "windows starting" screen the drive will no longer light up and no longer open, almost like it was suddenly unplugged again. I used the microsoft fixit tool and it couldn't fix the problem. I also tried to go into regedit and delete the upperfilter value (there was no lowerfilter value that i could find) like i read on the internet. I restarted the computer and it still didn't work so i used the back up registry file that i made to restore the value.

I can't figure out what's wrong. As a side note i am not exceedingly advanced with computers. I know i did the regedit right by following step-by-step instructions but that doesn't make me by any means advanced at computing so please keep solutions on a step-by-step fashion if possible.

Boot Up From Usb Dvd Drive

I know it can be done, but my bios only has the option, apart from the 'obvious' ones, of booting from usb flash - is that the same as the external usb dvd drive? (Have to use external dvd drive as one in laptop defunct) if not, i will have to boot from a usb stick - have copied the instructions from http://www.Istartedsomething.com/20081104/tip-make-your-pdc-2008-usb-hard-drive-a-bootable-windows-7-install-disk/ to make my usb drive ready, but some sites say it has to be ntsc formatted, and also made bootable with the bootsect utility. Which is correct?

Dvd Drive Disappearing Problem

On 2 laptops - almost identical dell inspiron 1545's - i have installed w7 rc 64 bit - after installation, the dvd drive seems to come and go at random - if its not showing, you can push the button to open the drive, and it reappears, and works fine for a while, but then it disappears again.

One one machine, i tried all of the suggestions about removing uperfilters, and lowerfilters, etc from the registry, disabled the integrity check, and turned off the driver check - have done all driver updates, and windows updates - now the drive works fine!

On machine 2 - did exactly the same things - drive still having this issue. I have also tried installed 32 bit w7 on it, and same thing. It originally came with vista - and it worked fine. Also, i know the drive is good - if it can boot and install windows 7 twice! Any thoughts/advice would be welcome!

Cd/dvd Drive Not Playing Audio Cd

My cd/dvd drive is not responding whenever i attempt to play some cds i bought recently. I have windows 7 home premium and this is basically a brand new laptop (packard bell easynote tj74). When i have attempted to view the error details of windows media player, it will not load any error message box. I have attempted with several cds, constantly getting the same result. I have also attempted to enter the d drive through my computer, resulting in the following message:windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions to access the item, there is only one account on this computer, and that is my own.

Cd/dvd Drive Disappears / Reappears

I seldom shut my pc down, usually put it to sleep. I'm running windows 7 - 64 bit on a gateway pc. Since installing win7, my dvd drive often does not show up on "my computer". I have to reboot, sometime a couple of times, in order to get it to show up again. The drive may show up and, when the pc comes back from sleep, it's gone. I read a couple of other posts about this that sounded
A bit different, i will appreciate knowing how to fix this issue other than having to reboot.

Cd/dvd Drive Not Found In Win 7

I have a dell inspiron 1545 laptop. I did a clean install of windows 7 (x32 edition) and since then my cd/dvd drive is nowhere to be found except for in bios and when i manually eject the drive it will pop up for a few seconds. It is a tsst corp dvd+-rw t5-l633b ata device. Dell released a driver for the problem but since my computer can't find the drive it will not download the driver. It will only show up in device manager for a few seconds when i eject it but then it disappears again and will not reappear unless i eject it again. When i put a disk in there then the disk will show up but that's about it.

I have tried deleting the upper and lower registry and i also tried the disable integrity checks suggestion with no success.

Applications Cannot Detect Dvd Drive

I am having trouble with my cdvd burner, as no applications on my computer recognize the drive at all. The hardware was working fine and was displayed under a list of burners in applications like cyberlink dvd, nero, windows iso burner, windows media player; now it is not displayed at all. I constantly get error messages that "no burners were detected" or to "connect a burner and restart the [windows media] player. " The drive does however appear in windows explorer and i am able to play dvd's from it (although i believe these are stored in a temporary cache).

I have already attempted to reinstall the driver from "device manager dvd/cd-rom drives hp dvd rw ad-7581s ata device" but this had failed. I have also run the online "playing and burning cds dvds and bds" troubleshooted from microsoft; it finds no problems, probably since it did not actually burn any data to test it. I've also downloaded the mats_run. Dvd.exe which supposedly fixes the problem automatically, this just downloaded massive amounts of data and went to the above troubleshooter. I am not able to burn dvds and no applications even detect i can.

Dvd Refuses To Take On Drive Letter

I just recently upgraded my windows vista 64-bit to windows 7 64-bit. After the upgrade, a problem came up. My dvd drive no longer appears in my computers, but it does show up in the device manager. I have tried all methods listed on the internet like reinstalling the driver, but to no avail. Then i tried microsoft's mats_run. Dvd and it identified a problem. The problem was that my dvd drive was not assigned a letter. However, the dvd drive "refuses" to take on a letter. I even tried assigning a letter to the drive myself via "disk management. " So my question is, why is it doing this and how do i fix it?

Cd/dvd Drive Reads, But Does Not Read Cd

Upgraded to windows 7 last week. All went well. Over the past few days, have been ripping cds for my mp3 player. This evening, the cd/dvd stopped reading the media. I can see the drive in windows explorer. When i click on the drive icon in win explorer, the tray opens for loading; however, when i load a cd and close the tray, the read/access light blinks but nothing happens to indicate the cd is actually being read. Brand new cd with no scratches. Anyone got a clue how to fix this?

Cannot Access Cd/dvd Drive Missing

Hp dv6646us laptop upgraded to windows 7 - retail version 3 or 4 mos ago just noticed my cd/dvd drive is missing, it is not listed under the device driver i tried several online fixes to no avail. I plugged in my flash drive which is usually drive g and the drive g flash shows up and the cd/dvd drive e, also ! But the drive e (cd/dvd) shows the flash (again) as the subdirectory.

The usb flash drive works fine and is accessible but even though the drive e (cd/dvd) shows up in the device manager (when my flash is plugged in) i can not access the cd in the drive i am somewhat computer literate but afraid to mess with too much that i don't know anything about.
