Administrator Privilege And Installing Programs Issues

I'm new to windows 7 and trying to install programs to get my pc working for me again. However, after installing a program with no issues what-so-ever, when i come to run the program windows refuses, saying i must have adim privilege when running the program for the first time. I should mention that i am using the admin account to do this. I have tried right click and select run as administrator, and the same message appears. I am not given any opportunity to enter the password. I am now at my wits end and have done everything i can think of and can find no more relevant info on the help page.
Please give me some advice.

Unable To Install Programs Due To Not Being Computer Administrator

Why am i unable to install programs due to 'not being the computer administrator' when i am the administrator? The last couple of times i have tried to install programs, such as adobe reader, a message comes up saying i do not have permission to install and must re-try when logged on as the administrator. But i have only the one user account on the computer and it says i am the administrator. I have tried granting permission to my user account (the same one is listed separately, once as administrator and again as what i have called it) to act as administrator but it said i am not allowed to do this.

Recovering Pre-installed Programs

I got a laptop a few months ago with vista installed. I'm not really happy with it and am looking into upgrading to win7. I plan on formatting my laptop when i am installing 7 but am worried that i might lose all of the programs that come pre-installed on my laptop, like "asus touch pad extra", "asus virtual camera" and assorted drivers and such. I can always get back office and stuff but i am worried about losing those programs. Will those stay installed even if i format? I tried looking on the asus site, but didn't really see anything.

Using a asus laptop, f50s series

Will Upgrade Removes Installed Programs?

I purchased a new hp in october of 2009 and realized that it did not come with microsoft office (just mesely microsoft works). A friend of mine is a computer tech and has a special license for ms office that allows him to install on a whack load of different computers (yes, it is ligit. There's a product code and everything), so he installed it on my computer for me. I have now received the windows 7 upgrade package and am worried that upgrading from vista to 7 will delete microsoft office from my computer as it is not a 'factory program' (i had to add the program, my computer did not come with it on it). Does anyone know if upgrading will delete my newely installed ms office? I do not have access to the program cd, so if it were to delete, i would not be able to reinstall.

Also, i'd like to add it is not an illegal version of word, the friend of mine who installed it for me is a computer technician. And also, i believe it is the newest version of office available right now.

Blue Screen Error After Installed Programs

Blue screen error- the deadly one !I'm using windows seven home premium 64-bit. 4 gb ram. 512 mb nvidia. Laptop model- lenovo g560i keep getting blue screens at least twice a week and i don't know why. I had installed fifa 2010 and after that problems started coming up. The game started crashing. I had also installed itunes yesterday and after that i saw the second blue screen coming up. I also installed device drivers for the ipod nano 16 gb. And also, after that, windows explorer has started acting like crazy.

It keeps crashing. When i try to find a solution through the action centre, it shows that iit could not reach the server, although i am connected. Please help guys. It does not feel nice to see blue screens so often. Is it a problem of windows 7? (The compatibility issue?). Because most of the programs i use are 32-bit or 84-bit most of them migrated from windows xp home edition.

Office 2007 Programs Do Not Appear In Default Programs List

I have both openoffice.org and microsoft office 2007 installed on my windows 7 computer and i would like to use microsoft office as the default for all files it can open but it does not appear in the default programs list.

In fact, except for microsoft office outlook, none of my microsoft office 2007 applications appear in the default programs list!

Openoffice.org does appear, and when i click on it in the list and click choose defaults for this program many of the defaults are already set to the equivalent microsoft office application. But there are some associations (such as text files) that are not correctly associated, and possibly others that i don't know about. I'd like to click on microsoft word and then click set this program as default so that it will automatically open all the files it can.

Login As Administrator

I have had a few programs that have asked me to log in as administrator which you think being the only log in i would be but apparently on some programs i don't have the right. I found this:

Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd and click run as administrator
- Type: net user administrator /active:yes (notice there is a space between the word "administrator" and the "forward slash"
- Press enter
- Exit
- Restart windows and you will be given the opportunity to log on as administrator. Is there any other way around it?

Administrator Disabled

My administrator account was disabled and i have the same problem as rodek. The only difference is that i did not disabled administrator - i don't know how it happened. Now i am not able to make any changes to my computer.

I had administrator enabled via local security policy. After installing the programs, i disabled the administrator via cmd.exe "net user administrator /active:no". Now i want to install some additional programs and i cannot enable the administrator login because the uac settings do not allow me to turn the admin on. In the command prompt, it says "type administrator password and then click yes. " But when i type the password the "yes" button remains gray and i cannot click it, so it does not allow me to login as admin, so i'm stuck only able to login as a user, but not the admin. I know the admin password and have not forgotten it.

I am logged in as an administrator. How do i get the computer to shut up and stop with the big box. I don't really want to run ms network.

Not Registering As An Administrator

I have an issue with my administrator account which i made when i installed windows 7 to my computer. Where it does not get picked up as an administrator all the time. Sometimes when i try to uninstall or change some settings i get a message something like:warning: need administration rights to perform this operation. It is highly annoying when trying to remove and change programs or change settings. I am set as an administrator and  it just doesn't want to register that i am.

No Administrator Privileges

I just bought a new toshiba laptop today, and set it up. Everything seemed to go smoothly, until i tried to delete the one of the silly desktop shortcuts that was pre-installed by toshiba. Then user account control took over and said that i needed to be logged in as the administrator to do this. It said that i have to type a password and click yes, or no. There is no space to enter a password, and the 'yes' box is disabled. My only choice is to click the 'no' and go back to the drawing board.

The same happens when i tried to install adobe flash player. I also tried to change my account (which is marked as a 'standard account' into an administrator one, but the same message occurs. This is very frustrating, what use is a computer if i can't delete or install the programmes i want to use?!

Cannot Understand Who The Administrator Is?

I never shut my pc down, i always leave it on. This pc i have had for 4 weeks. Tonight i went to make changes to audio recorder and selected troubleshoot audio recordings.

It then darkens the screen and tells me to type in administrator password and then click yes.
I thought i was admin? I thought when i switched off my pc and switched it back on again that that was the password i was being asked to enter and so i thought i knew it.

But when i try to do this troubleshoot it comes up no response, i have also tried just hitting enter but  both do nothing and just send me back to the original screen.

How do i find out who the admin is on my own pc?
When i login when powering up what is this password?
Where will get my admin password from?

Activating Administrator

I used the transfer utility to transfer my credentials from a windows business laptop to a brand new laptop with windows home premium on it. When i got to windows hp i found out that my account was a standard account instead of an administrators account - even through the account says administrator type when i drilled down it was set to standard and would not allow me to change it. Looking at some of the other threads i tried a number of things and this is what i found to work below for me.

Signed on to my account
Went to the windows/system32 directory and found cmd.exe
Highlighted the file name and right clicked
Chose run as administrator from the menu
Double clicked on the file
The command window opened
Typed in net user administrator /active:yes
Closed the command window
Rebooted

The administrator now show up on the welcome window i tried the windows key and r - which did not work. When i tried to type lusrmgr. Msc i got the message that this was not supported in home premium my question is was this because my transferred account was an administrator's account to begin with? Or was this fluke that i managed this - the administrators account when activated does not have a password on it and i'm assuming that i should create one - but i'm not sure what will do after the fact to windows utilities and the like. Anyone?

Administrator Without Authority

I am running windows 7 home premium and am generally very pleased with it however i have run into a problem this morning. I am the owner, administrator, and sole user of this computer. This morning i was trying to modify the hosts file but when i tried to save the modification i received the following error message:

C:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts.txt
You don't have permission to save in this location.
Contact the administrator to obtain permission.

Well i contacted myself immediately but i could not help me. I am hoping that one of you kind people will be able to provide me with some guidance.

Cannot Download As Administrator

We received two brand new hp6241f pcs running windows 7 from future shop here in canada. I got home tonight from work and found my dad still sitting in front of the first, trying to get it set up. At that point he was trying to activate the 60-day ms office trial but every time he clicked the link to get a key he'd get a message saying he wasn't connected to the internet. I confirmed that he was; we can totally surf.

I found another way of getting the key but kept getting redirected to a bing page that said "we are unable to find [url]. "

I tried a few times, figured it was a bad link and decided to move on. I went to download windows live mail.

Same stupid thing. The download page would load, the download would be about to begin and the redirect would happen again.

I've tried downloading firefox and ccleaner - same problem.

I've browsed forum after forum and answer after answer. There's only one user and she's identified as administrator.

I played with security settings up the yin/yang. I do hi-speed internet technical support for a living so i can easily disable common stuff. I followed some instructions to make changes of the user controls but full control is already enabled.

I'm at my wits end and hating win7. There are too damn many security options, if you ask me. Too many to find, apparently, because nothing i've done is working.

Administrator Assignment Problem

I just bought a new computer and i used the windows easy data transfer but when it was done my status as an administrator has changed, i am now a standard user. All of my info seems to be correct except that i cannot do the functions i need to do without  the administrator privileges. There is another account on the machine and it has full admin rights, but my data and files are not in that account. My question is how to fix this problem where i have full admin rights with the least amount of havoc?
