How To Create More System Restore Points ?

How do i create more system restore points? I needed to do a system restore to correct an issue i was having. Looking through the list of available restore points, the list only went back 14 days. Is there a setting i can change to have restore points be available for a month or so?

System Restore Points Problem

I'm having problems with system restore on my computer. I had a post about my earlier problem in a different forum on this website, my post was: "i'm using windows 7 ultimate, microsoft office 2007 and my printer is epson lx-300+. I had no trouble printing anything before until now, i can't get my printer to work. I thought it was a driver issue so i reinstalled it but still won't print.

I recently discovered that after i click the ok button to start printing, there at the devices & printers page, specifically at see what's printing page, the document for printing won't show up anymore, it always shows up there if i print something. "

"Strangely i discovered that, if my printer is not connected to the computer, the document shows up at the see what's printing page with the status as printing though my printer is off but as i turn on the printer the document for printing disappears and as i try to print again, it won't show up as long as the printer is on & connected. " I was about to try system restore to restore my settings to an earlier date but oddly enough i can't access any restore points, it says that there are no restore points available. I actually discovered my problem with system recovery a month ago, i had the enabled the "monitoring" option for system restore on my 2 drives both ntfs format.

I can manually make a restore point but whenever i restart my pc all restore points are gone. This happens over & over again. My system does make restore points when changes are made like when uninstalling programs but when i restart my system, like i said, all restore points are gone but the settings remained untouched like my drive can't store restore points, i did allocate 2 gb of disk space for it (i have a 40 gb drive partitioned to 30 & 8 gb. Have you encountered anything like this with windows 7 ultimate?

Win 7 Restore Points Deleted By Xp

I have two separate os systems (xp pro and win 7 pro) on separate hard drives. Restore points are created on both systems. No problem with xp. I have presently 20% of the 500gb drive reserved for restore points in win 7. I am only monitoring win 7 on the win 7 drive and only xp on the xp drive. No files are on the win 7 drive- only the os and programs. Win 7 works fine and keeps the restore points. However if i boot up xp pro and then boot up win 7 pro i find that all of the restore points that had been listed in win 7 have been deleted. How do i fix this problem?

Scheduled Restore Points Not Showing Up

My computer is scheduled to make restore points every day, but when i go into system restore it only shows a restore point once a week, at the same time as my scheduled backup, or when i install new programs, or when windows automatically updates. I have 365 gb free space on my hard drive. Task scheduler shows that the restore points were successfully done every day. Disk space for restore points is set at 20 percent (95 gb) i set it that big hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't. Any suggestions?

Error Messages - Msdsm Driver Incompatibility - Loss Of Restore Points

Sp2 won't install properly - black screens - cryptic error messages- msdsm driver incompatibility- loss of restore points. I tried to install the important update of vista sp2 on my hp dv7 64-bit computer. The latest windows update (service pack 2) gave me a warning that "msdsm" driver is incompatible with the service pack. It offered no solution or identification of what msdsm is.

I stupidly chose the option to continue the update installation anyway. After downloading the update and then attempting the required restart, the computer got through installation stage 1 of 3. Near the beginning of stage 2, the computer restarted, then moved to a black screen, with a changing one-line dos message seeming to scan files. It got up to a file number 3592 of ~75000 and would not go further, just kept flashing the same file name and number (with exclamation points!).

I finally held the power button in to shut down and manually restart. The system repair program began and eventually offered a system restore. I elected the system restore and it restored successfully. I checked to see what restore point it had restored to and noticed that all my restore points (except for the sp2 installation) had disappeared.

I also got an error message for norton internet security 2009 indicating that antivirus had shut down and it needed to run live update. Surprisingly it found 75mb of updates even though i had been fully updated prior to the sp2 installation. Thanks a lot microsoft for an unwanted "improvement" that causes far more problems than it solves. I recommend strongly that nobody install sp2 unless and until ms gets this straightened out.

Unable To Create A Restore Point

I purchased a anytime upgrade from windows 7 home, to windows 7 professional. For some reason my computer will not allow me to set a restore point. The upgrade stops until i provide a restore point. I need to work around this and install windows 7 professional without a restore point. The new operating system should correct all other problems. How do i do this?

Besides not letting me create a restore point my computer seems to have trouble detecting it's own dvd drive. Before i bought it the store was using it as the floor model. Since it was the last one they had, they run out of any installation disks. How would i reinstall the old system so i could install the new system? I need a windows 7 professional work-a-round

Cannot Create A System Repair Disc

We have had this problem since first boot.

Start->maintenance->backup and restore->create a system repair disc , a grayed out dialog window comes up with "create a system repair disc" as title, but is immediately covered by another dialog window that says: microsoft windows repair disc has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

There is a choice of "debug" or "close window". Debug leads to the same dialog window without the choice of "debug" and "close. " Closes both dialog windows.

This activity will create errors in the event viewer but there is no information. The event id, source, and log fields are "-". Using recdisc.exe produces the same result. It does not matter if there is media in the drive or not. Re-booting does not help. Device manager says the matshita dvd-ram uj892as dvd drive is ok. The drive plays music and movies fine. Any clues?

Create System Image Failed

Upgraded windows 7 home premium to ultimate using anytime upgrade. Tried to create system image on a second hard drive, and it failed with a message about not having enough disk space on the destination drive. Before starting the backup, i got a message that about 27gb would be needed. There is over 100gb of free space on the second hard drive. Tried again, this time saving to my networked shared drive, also with over 100gb free space. Same failure message. The system c: drive shows 52. 1gb free of 74. 4gb

Unable To Create The System Image

I have two acer slimline towers. One almost one year, the other just two weeks. I thought that finally i shoud create a system image. So far i was lucky and haven't lost anything but after the purchase of the second acer i became a little more concerned.

I purchased iomega 1tb external drive ntfs and tried to create the system image. On the older comp. I receive a message that the harddrive has not enough free space for creating the system image. The 1tb drive is empty. The newer comp. Will not even let me go to the same point. It tells me that "windows 7 backup stopped working". The next message gives me a choice to cancel or debug but nothing happens anyway. From reading several non-microsoft forums i assume that this is a serious problem and my concern is who will give me new windows if i loose the content of one or both of my computers when there is no longer hard copy of windows supplied. One comp is 32bit, the other is 64bit. Both have w& professional upgrade.

If i may add another question, the newer comp, the 64bit doesn't shut off properly. It takes 4 minutes at least. The older one with much more stuff in it shuts off immediately. I tried to stop services and startup programs but it doesn't help.

Can't Create A System Image Of Win 7

Objective: create a system image of win7(64bit)tools: built in windows backup & restore tools.

          Wd-1tb(where win7 resides)primary drive
          Wd-750gb(where the image will reside)slave

Issues: when trying to create the system image of win7, the total size is 56gb which will be saved on the 750gb drive that has nothing on it. Now windows decided that the 750gb drive does not have enough space. Anyone has the same problem or knows what's wrong with windows 7,

How To Create Bootable System Repair Disk On Usb ?

How can i create a bootable version of a "system repair disk" on my hard disk drives or on a usb stick?
Explanations/why i ask the question: i have ordered a pc that will come with the 64 bit version of windows 7 ultimate and with 3 hard disks. My pc manufacturer/assembler told me, that they do not install bootable recovery partitions on the hard disk drives of their pcs.

Therefore, when i will eventually need to restore my system with the windows 7 "system image recovery" tool to the state of a previously created system image, i will need to use a system repair disc (that i have previously created on a dvd) to boot the "system image recovery" tool.

In principle, this seems to be sufficient, because it is hopefully relatively seldom that i will need to restore my c partition to a previous state (in the past, i did this mainly when participating in a software beta programs in order to restore my pc to the "clean and reliable" state prior to the installation of the unreliable beta-software).
I am however concerned about becoming dependent for the restore of a system image on a properly functioning dvd drive (they seem to be less reliable than, for example, hard disk drives). It would be a severe problem for me, to detect at the time of an attempted system restore, that my dvd drive is not functioning anymore.
Therefore, i would like to know if and how, i could reliably create for windows 7 ultimate (64 bit) a bootable version of a "system repair disk" on one of my internal hard disks or on an externally attached  usb disk or usb stick. I will appreciate to get a description (or to be pointed to a description) that a regular windows user can understand (i am not a pc system programmer and i am not familiar at all with things like the registry or sdks)

Backup Create System Image On External / Network Drive

I am running windows 7 home premium 64bit and i have 2 internal hdds plus a networked windows home server. When i go to backup and select create system image i am only shown the option of backing up the system drive (c drive) and not the other hdd (d drive). And as destination for the backup of the system drive i am presented with no option other than the d drive. I am not shown the option of an external drive or the whs network drive. Apparently the option of an external or network drive should be available as long as they are ntfs formatted.could it be that these options are not available for the home premium edition?

I have tried turning off restore and re-enable, no resolution. The pc runs fine except the above 2 issues. I have deleted all un-needed software. - Does not resolve issues. I have run utilities to check registry (glary utilities) - does not resolve issuescan anyone suggest where i should look next?

Usb Install Error - Setup Was Unable To Create A New System Partition

I'm installing onto an hp mini 1035nr. My usb install key was created using the microsoft provided usb install creation program. When i try to install windows 7 i receive the following error: "setup was unable to create a new system partition". I then exited out of the install application and opened the command prompt in the installer. Using diskpart i can create partitions and format them. Using notepad i can write files. Thus i know the installer can read/write to this disk and create system partitions.

System Restore

My current pc came with vista preloaded. I did not receive a cd disk with it. Rather the manufacture had set up a recovery partition for me to restore the system. In addition, vista also gave me the option to make recovery disks which i did. If i upgrade to windows 7 and do a clean install will it give me that same one time option to create the recovery disk for my computer?

Also, when i do install windows 7 will it give me the option to wipe my whole hard drive including the old recovery partition and allow me to create a new recovery partition? I realize that it is the manufacturer that has set up the recovery partition, and i have never had to do it for myself before, so i was wondering if that is some kind of option with windows 7 or if i am on my own to create a new one?

Need To Restore System

I just finished restoring my system for the 10th time in the three months that i have owned this new windows 7 computer. For at least 10 times when i have been advised that the windows 7 operating system has been updated i am not able to get on the internet with the use of internet explorer. After restoring the system to a time before the most recent update i am once again able to get on the internet. Does anyone have any idea on how to stop the need for restoration after an update?

Why No System Restore?

A registry defragmentor program caused my sysem to not be able to boot. The system could not repair itself either. I also tried last known good configuration without results. I tried to do a system restore and had a number of restore points to choose from, but every one i chose gave me an exclamation mark and i could not put a check mark in the c windows box.

I was able to get my system back using another backup routine (image) i was using, but this backup was 3. 5 weeks old and i had 3 restore points for 3 days ago. So what might i do to get this working  in case a similar event happens and my system is unrepairable via the repair tool presented. Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

System Restore Does Not Work

I recently had big problems with my dell inspiron 530 and it would not reboot. I finally got to the part of the safe mode where you can do system restore. I tried the 1st restore point and thought everything would work but all of a sudden i get a message that says system restore did not complete because of an error. I tried 2 more restore points and got the same message. Some way the system recovered and booted up the normal way when i started it normally. I would like to know why system restore would not work. Does the antivirus program need to be off or uninstalled? Does windows defender have something to do with this?

Restore From System Image

I have a hard disk with two partitions, one for my windows 7 installation and one for my media files. I want to make a system image of my windows partition only using the backup and restore feature in windows 7 (a backup of the files on the media partition would require more space than i currently have).

If i create a system image of the windows partition only and use it to restore to the the same hard disk that windows is currently installed on (which also contains a partition with my media files), will i lose the files on the media partition?

Win 7 System Restore

It wont let me do a system restore due to the common error below. "System restore could not access a file" and the event viewer shows "an unspecified error occurred during system restore. Has anyone heard of avast buggering up system restore?

Restore System Administration

Also, my user account profile says i am the system administrator. However, ever since i upgraded to windows 7, i have been blocked from changing anything that requires a system administrator account. This is particularly true when i try to create a restore point, which i cannot do because it does not recognize that i have administrator rights.

When i bring up the system window and select system protection, it says that system restore is disabled by your system administrator. Except i am supposed to be the system administrator.configuration and system restore point creation is also disabled by my system administrator.

Anyone have any ideas? Also, how do i move an ntsf partition?

Cannot Complete System Restore

When doing a system restore i get the message that system restore did not complete and no files were changed. I'm running windows 7 on a 64bit computer. I have tried doing a restore from safe mode, from a dos prompt and i have uninstalled my virus protection and firewall and still no luck. My system is operating properly in all respects. I was running some media server software named playon and was having some issues so their tech support told me to change some networking options. I had to uninstall that software and now it will not let me reinstall so i am trying to do a system restore to a point before i changed the network settings.

System Restore Problem

I'm running windows 7 home premium. Up till recently, as far as i know, i've been able to restore from restore points but recently i had problems installing a program and was unable to uninstall it. I tried system restore. On reboot i got a message "system restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point". I've tried other restore points but still get the same message. You can see the actual message window here

http://s8.¤t=systemrestorefailure.jpg .

I've run the system file checker with no problems found and checked that volume shadow copy is running and starts automatically. I've also tried switching sr off and then on but it makes no difference.

System Restore And Updates

I have been trying to uninstall windows liveone care safety scanner because i mistakenly downloaded it and it does not work for windows 7 64 bit computers. It would not uninstall. So i tried restoring my computer to an earlier time. Two questions: the liveone safety scanner is still there and i still can not uninstall it. Any suggestions on how to get rid of it?

The restore point was before the latest windows updates. Would the updates have been deleted by the system restore? I checked to see if i have the latest updates and i do, but i don't understand how that is possible. Any explanation?
