Cannot Access Dvd Drive Which Is Shared As A Folder

I wanted to take some files from a dvd and copy and share them, i accidentally instead of copying them to a folder, i turned the dvd drive into a folder and now, i can't access it. It shows the name of the current cd in the list, but i get an access denied window every time. I tried to uninstall the drive and then reinstall, but same result, i've tried to unshare it, but still nothing, i have win 7 ultimate on an i7 920 x58 mb with 6 gig ram

Error - Access Is Denied When Trying To Access A Shared Drive

I am getting an error "access is denied" when trying to access a shared drive on windows 7 machine that is not the specified "public" folder. How do i fix this?. I have done a fair bit of googling to no avail!

I have also made all he necessary network and sharing settings to allow connections. Other computers can access the "public" folder. But not the other shares that i set up. Although the other computer/s can 'see' them when viewing workgroup computers. Nb. All machines are on the same workgroup name.

Unable To Access Shared Folders On Drive Connected Via Usb

I recently set up a home network using the new linksys e3000 router, which provides a usb port for drive sharing, backup, and media streaming. I'm getting a message that says the folder access is denied, and i should contact the administrator for access. Fter spending several hours with linksys support, i was unable to solve the initial problem, which is to get full control over the files and folders on this drive. We did the following without success:remapped the drive. Made sure i was logged in as administrator.

Made sure the workgroup name was consistent. Ttempted to assign full control with permissions. This was particularly strange. When i set permissions to full control for any group or user, after clicking apply windows would attempt to set new permissions, but then the folder would go right back to having limited permissions. I was unable to edit. I'm assuming this is where the problem is. Ny idea why i can't change the permissions on these network folders?

Can't Access Root Folder Nas Drive

Since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i can't access my root folder on my network drive (nas) anymore. In vista when i choose network it displayed me all networks including my nas drive, there i could select it and it would forward me to the nas root. In windows 7 it doesn't show me to nas and if i tell to go to root likezelst it will give me a permission / access error. The only way for me is to map a sub-folder on the nas directly likezelstfolder1 etc. I wanna know if i can make windows 7 show me my nas drive again and being able to access it's root folder.

Cannot Access Cd/dvd Drive Missing

Hp dv6646us laptop upgraded to windows 7 - retail version 3 or 4 mos ago just noticed my cd/dvd drive is missing, it is not listed under the device driver i tried several online fixes to no avail. I plugged in my flash drive which is usually drive g and the drive g flash shows up and the cd/dvd drive e, also ! But the drive e (cd/dvd) shows the flash (again) as the subdirectory.

The usb flash drive works fine and is accessible but even though the drive e (cd/dvd) shows up in the device manager (when my flash is plugged in) i can not access the cd in the drive i am somewhat computer literate but afraid to mess with too much that i don't know anything about.

Shared Folder Has No Share Name

(1) when a folder is shared using the new "share with" command, it does not have the hand holding folder icon to indicate the folder is being shared, like in xp. Is there a way to enable this?

(2) let's say my pc name is win7pc and the folder i want to share is photo folder on the desktop. In winxp when you share a folder you provide a share name that other people can see in their network neighborhood. But in win7, there is no provision to name the share when using the "share with". So when other people want to use this shared folder, they have to start with win7pcusers and then navigate through the various folders until they reach the photo folder on my desktop.

And when i look at available shares on my pc, it just shows a users folder, which makes me wonder which folder i really am sharing.

Is there a name for this nameless share feature and is it supposed to be better in some way than the named shared that i'm used to in winxp? So far it seems like a less friendly way to share folder.

Shared Folder Stops Working At Small Office

I've narrowed down the problem and done some more research, so i'm asking this question again but more clearly. Sorry if this is considered a repost. One of my clients has a small office with 7 pcs in a work-group. They're trying to connect them all to the shared drive on a pc running windows 7 home premium. Eventually the shared drive on the "server" becomes inaccessible and they get this exact error:z: is not accessible.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command. I uninstalled norton and set the irp stack size to 50 (18 & 20 didn't fix it), but they're still getting the error, presumably after more than 5 pcs attempt to access the network share. The only way to make it work again when this happens is to restart the machine.

My question is, is this happening because home premium only allows a maximum of 5 computers to connect to it's shared folders, or is it likely something else?  Is there a way to reset whatever is causing this error so they can continue to access the drive without having to restart the computer?  Do i have to upgrade the machine to windows 7 professional or ultimate to make it work as a server with more than 5 computers?

Folder Access Denied - Cant Delete Folder

Folder access denied

You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder

Continue skip cancel

- I click continue and i get:

Folder access denied

You require permission from laptop/chris to make changes to this folder

Try again cancel

- I am laptopchris! (My username is chris on the login screen so i presume i am laptop/chris). Do i have to have permission to do something on my own computer? It's my computer! Im a newbie when it comes to windows 7. Windows 95, 98, 98se, me, 2000, xp im more advanced in, with vista im slightly there.

I have tried numerous attempts at the silly take ownership thing but it seems to have failed. The message i get up when applying the new settings is:

Error applying security information to :

C:users.

Access is denied

This is rather frustrating - am i doing something wrong? Would someone please provide simple, easy to follow, accurate steps to take ownership and provide me with a solution or better, a fix, if this doesn't work?

Getting Folder Access Denied

I am trying to copy files from my old xp pro laptop to my new windows 7 desktop. I've shared the drive from my old laptop on my home network. I can see the folders and files i want to copy. I started to copy a folder and it copied 2 files then gave me a folder access denied message. The files that copied witn no problem were an excel 2003 spread sheet and a word 2003 document. The file that won't copy is a .zip file. I am the only user on both the xp pro and the windows 7 server. I just want to copy all the documents i have from the old laptop to my new computer. Sounds pretty straight forward. Any ideas on how to do this simple task?

Cannot Access Documents And Setting Folder

I recently installed windows 7 rc as a dual boot with xp. Unfortunately, in windows 7, not only can i not access my documents and setting folder (win7 partition), but nothing through the 'user' folder, either. I created a new account, and had the same trouble. I've tried changing permissions through the tabs and dialogs, including in safe mode, and just as it seems it's getting ready to write the new permissions, it pops up yet another 'access denied' dialog. I've gone through windows update and all is up to date.

Should i be concerned, or is this a 'windows 7 rc' quirk?  How will it affect applications i might want to install to "try out"?

Add Another Computer To Folder Access

I have windows 7 ultimate acting as the "server" on a network. This unit has multiple users on it. In the office i also have additional computers, (different computer names), with the exact same users/passwords setup on them. They match the "server" computer. I am now trying to setup security on the "server". What i would like to do is share a folder with specific privileges that allow/restrict access to specific users. The problem is i can not change the "from this location" when adding a user/group. I need to allow the user serveruser1 and officersuser1, etc. To have specific access to various files/folders. How can i do this?

Cannot Access Temp Folder For .pdf Creator

This is a new pc installed with windows 7 basic i installed a physical printer via usb no problem , then tried to install a .pdf creator to send statements from a rental program. On installation and opening the .pdf creator program i receive an error that it does not have permission to open the temp folder.

I then also tried to install a second printer via usb but constantly receive the message usb device not recognized! And the printer cannot be found or installed. The .pdf creator should create a pdf printer under printers but it hasn't. I was convinced after scouring countless forums  that the two problems were linked and had to do with -user account control settings - alas after disabling it no luck neither will work.

I have tried the following rebooted countless times unplugging the pc turned uac off and on with reboots in between and attempting .pdf creator install and the second usb printer install with this setting on and off with no luck.

Checked the register entry for uac to ensure it was totally disabled checked that the second usb samsung printer is 100% compatible with windows 7 downloaded the latest .pdf creator installation files rolled back all the windows 7 updates with a system restore uninstall all the usb drivers which then reinstalled on reboot. Tried to manually add the samsung printer using add printer
I am now at a loss and am convinced the two problems are linked.

Problem Copying A Large Folder To Dvd

I'm using a drag and copy of a large folder (~3gb) onto an external usb dvd. The folder contains sub-folders of miscellaneous data (photos etc). If i select and copy say the 10 sub folders (at once) then no problem. If these same folders live under a single higher folder then the copy gets half way through then everything stalls and i need to hard boot the computer. I have the following useful relevant updates installed kb975617 and kb976972 installed. Any suggestions? By the way. If you are experiencing painfully slow dvd file burning look at kb975617 (issue 3)

Connecting To Shared Drive On Windows 2000 From Win 7 Workstation

Trying to connect to a shared drive on windows 2000 from my new windows 7 workstation, but it keeps asking for a user name and password. User name and password won't go either. I have windows 7 pro, we are running a windows 2000 server with our data on it. When i try and connect to the mapped drives on this server it asks for the user name and password. I am logging onto this windows 7 with the same credentials as i have set on my server.

Why is windows 7 asking for a user name and password when the previous xp computer did not? Also i can connect to shared folders on our small business 2003 server with no problem. Is there something i need to setup on the windows 2000 server to work with sharing files to a windows 7 computer? Very frustrating problem considering there is no mention of this online.

Live Mail Folder Relocation To Drive D

Drive c is for the os only, and is replaced with a new image daily. Ms outlook would let me direct the pst data file to the d drive, and so it was not affected when drive c replaced with new image. I did move these folders to the d drive using windows explorer, but when live mail is started, it just re-creates the folders back onto the c drive.

Empty Backup Folder On External Hard Drive

This is regarding windows 7 home premium. I recently discovered the files created on my external hard drive by windows automated backup utility are empty. The backup utility continues to apparently create backups: the external drive lights up to indicate activity when the "backup in progress" symbol appears in the notification area of the taskbar.control panel>system and security>backup and restore shows a backup size of 92. 24 gb and verifies the backup location as the external drive.

The external drive itself appears to be working fine: i can move other files, such as outlook backups, to the drive and verify their file size. There are two backup-related file folders on the external drive, one with the name of the computer and the other named windowsimagebackup, which was created about two minutes after the first. But both are empty.

Drive C: Access Denied

I am running windows 7 home prem 32-bit. We had a visitor who "knows computers" and this morning the wife can not do anything on her computer. Life is not fun at this time. I checked my computer and there is a administrator account along with mine. Hers does not have administrator account, only her account.

This seems to have something to do with the problem. I have tried everything in safe mode to running the "repair" on the win7 cd. Nothing works. Question: is there something that i can do other than bomb and pave?
