Can't Restore From Nas Drive Back

I used a nas drive to back up my computer with windows 7. My hard drive died-5 months old-. I have reinstalled windows 7 from the dvd. Now i wanted to restore my pictures and stuff. I opened up backup restore and found the nas drive but windows won't recognize the back ups? It say it could not find any backup sets. The folder i told it to look at is call backup sets with a date code. I have tried all the date and same thing. If i go to nas drive and look in the folders i can see files and folders in them but there is so many i can't find my pictures or emails. How do i make this work?

Cannot Map Nas Drive

I am trying to map a nas box that we use for automated back-ups and i get the message "the network name can not be found. 0x80070043".

The thing it we just connect by its internal ip address, not server, host or computer name. It says name can not be found, it doesn't have to find the name i am telling it the address. On xp & when we had win 2000 we just put 192. 168. 1. 220 and it would ask for name & password and then connected. I can browse our other computers and map a drive to them if i wanted but just not the nas box.

I can also see the web interface of the nas by putting that ip address in firefox, and it is working fine on our xp machines, so i know it is up and running. Its just on win 7 it will not connect. I am running build 7100.

Can't Access Root Folder Nas Drive

Since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i can't access my root folder on my network drive (nas) anymore. In vista when i choose network it displayed me all networks including my nas drive, there i could select it and it would forward me to the nas root. In windows 7 it doesn't show me to nas and if i tell to go to root likezelst it will give me a permission / access error. The only way for me is to map a sub-folder on the nas directly likezelstfolder1 etc. I wanna know if i can make windows 7 show me my nas drive again and being able to access it's root folder.

Win 7 Once Connected To Nas Drive Wont Recognize Upnp Devices

I have a laptop running windows 7 that once connected to a nas drive wont recognize upnp devices, is very slow to uninstall programmes, will not shutdown, and generally grinds to a halt. I have a western digital nas drive, an hp hdx18 laptop and a htpc connected together through a bt ethernet router. Every time i connect the laptop to the nas drive it starts to behave strangely.

1. It will not recognize any new upnp devices that i plug in such as external hard drives
2. The printer stops working - all print jobs are queued until after a reboot
3. Software uninstall can take a very long time
4. The machine will not shut down. It hangs on the windows shutdown screen with the blue circle spinning.
5. The machine seems to become unstable and slowly grinds to a halt.

The trouble started happening when i installed the wd software. However, i cannot be sure it was this that caused the issue as i was changing other software at the time. At the time i was running vista 64 home premium. I have subsequently upgraded to windows 7 x64 hoping that would fix it - no joy.

Further clues are that i have recently bought a htpc and installed windows 7 and the wd software. This works fine and does not show the same symptoms. I do suspect that the registry of the laptop may have some corruption (at least that is what free registry check software says - i have not bought any software to fix the issues). Do you have any idea what is wrong?

Prepare To Restore Hard Drive

I have a windows 7, 32 bit system, with the software cd, and office home premium. I have a seagate external hard drive but the backup software is not considered adequate for a full system restore. I have a nvidia bios issue that will requires a full hard drive reformat.

Will windows back up and restore enable me to restore my system from the external hard drive if i use the "create a system image" capability?  Is there anything else i need to do to prepare for the reinstall?

There is also a app called 'recovery mgr'. Can you please help me get these folders back on my laptop in a format that i can view? Windows 7 and iomega prestige hard drive.

Cannot Restore Backed Up Files From Usb Drive

Bought new pc with win 7. Backed up to external usb western digital hdd 1tb. A week later hdd on computer crashed and was replaced. Plug in external usb and it is no longer recognized. Try on two other computers, same problem. (Not entirely unexpected as this seems to happen all the time with external usb hdd's). Download program "recover my files v4 standard", it sees the files and i copy the backup files to my new hdd.

Problem is when i double click the backup file instead of invoking the "restore" functionality it simply treats this file as a folder and drills down to the next level. And that my friends is my problem, are there any attributes i need to set to get the restore functionality to work for the backed up files?

Backup And Restore Vs External Hard Drive

I have upgraded from vista ultimate to 7. I also needed to change out my 150gb hdd for a 500gb hdd. I thought the cool thing to do would be to install 7 and all my softwareon the old drive, make a backup/image of that drive onto a spare external drive, install the new drive and restore the image to the new drive.

My plan worked to perfection with one fatal flaw. The image only created 150gb of usable space on my 500gb hdd. So i reinstalled the original 150gb hdd and put the 500gb hdd into an external drive box with usb connection. The computer immediately recognized the 500gb hdd but when i look for it on computer, it won't show up.

Neither will my other external hdd's. I have tried on different usb ports and usb cables and the device manager says that all usb devices are operational. Dell precision m4300, 4gb memory, 2. 50 gh, t9300 core 2 duo 32 bit system. Extra credit: can anyone tell me why the "safely remove hardware and eject media" icon won't work? Double clicking and right mouse click have no affect.

I have named the new hard drive partitions f: where the system image is located and e: where i would like to restore the system image to. How do i proceed? I would like to do this using "recovery" instead of the repair dvd.

Can't Restore Photos And Music From Usb Drive

I have upgraded to windows 7, i now can't restore photos and music that i backed up on to a usb drive? Or from the quote 'old computer either? I follow the steps and they lead me back to the start. Ok, first i tried to just update to windows 7, backed up all files to drive d: after hours of back up i then tried to install it required a clean install so, i went back and copied files that i needed to a usb drive (pictures, music, email files) the install then went forward.

Tried to restore files from usb drive, said it was done but haven't found file on windows 7 but on old computer drive d: but can't access them their and can't seem to transfer them with easy transfer because it says i should have set up an easy transfer file before the update. Which before the upgrade there was no mention of.

System Image Restore When Size Of C: Drive Changed

I have so far have had great success in restoring from system image (as opposed from system restore) for my windows 7 ultimate x64. Some small clarifications:1. On day 1, i make a system image of c: os (windows 7 ultimate) and system reserved partition (100mb). Say on that day, the c: was 100 gb in total size. 2. On any day after that, i modify the c: partition size to something different from 100gb. This could be because i am reinstalling windows 7 and thought to change the partition size or want to change the partition sizes or any other reason. Say, the c: is now 90gb or 110 gb or whatever, but not 100gb which it was on the day i made the system image.

Suppose, i am not happy with the result or feel the need to abort this install, and go back to my system image. 3. Will system image restore now work, considering that the c: is no longer the same size as on the day the image was made?4. Finally, windows 7 makes a system image called 'windowsimagebackup' or something. Do subsequent imaging overwrite this completely if i choose the same external hard drive i made the first image from.

Second, i have seen that if i change the name of the image say to 'windowsimagebackup290510', windows system repair disk no longer recognizes it. What is the way out. I basically want one partition with different system images say 'windowsimagebackup290510', 'win. Backup050610' and so on. But windows 7 restoring has failed for me when i rename the image file?

Restore Windows Using Backup After Completely Reformat Hard Drive

If i back up the system, then completely wipe and reformat the hard drive, will i be able to somehow restore windows using the backup, with all the software intact (aka subscriptions etc. ). Also how do i restore if the memory is 100% wiped clean? Basically i have an acer laptop with a stupid unaccessible hard-drive partition with the vista acer backup on it.

I am currently running the w7 rc and am about to upgrade to w7, there is also a vista dual-boot i will erase at the same time. I have mcafee and powerdvd subscriptions on the rc. Now when i upgrade the rc to w7 directly these subscriptions will carry over, and that's wonderful, however i still have the stupid partition problem wasting hdd space. As i understand the only way to get rid of it is a full hdd reformat, which wipes the memory. My plan is to backup the new w7 account to an external hdd, thats a ful backup of everything, perform the reformat, and somehow get the backup back onto the hdd. Only there's no windows software to run the recovery.

So, my question's are:
How do i get the backup onto the computer after the wipe, considering there is no software to read it (would i need to get microsoft to re-activate the product key)?
If i can somehow get all this done will the subscriptions still work?
Quite simply - is there an easier way of sorting all this out?

Add Nas Shares To Index

I have a qnap nas with a number of network shares i'd like to add to the index. Under control panel > indexing options, the nas and any mapped drives are not listed, however an answer here indicates this may be due to an access right issue on the folder. Unfortunately the solution of adding system to the folder permissions doesn't work as the permissions on the nas are controlled by the nas itself (eg. , Adding mynasusername would work, but w7laptopsystem does not).

Is there a way around this? I have seen some symbolic link hacks, but from what i've read, it isn't bulletproof (ie. , Some actions such as printing don't follow the link properly and result in a file not found). I also do not want to make the shares available offline as i do not have the space on my hard drive to cache that much data.

It seems ridiculous that adding network shares requires all this hoop jumping - why aren't network locations available by default in the indexing options?

Nas Invisible In Network Map

I have 7 windows 7 computers networked via a gigabit switch and a verizon fios router. They all share access to an nas. 6 of the 7 display the nas just fine in the network map. The 7th, a netbook and the only one running 32-bit home premium instead of 64-bit professional, doesn't. I can access nas folders directly from the netbook using ip, but the nas doesn't show in the network map. More importantly it doesn't show as a backup location, so i can't backup that one machine.

Since the problem appears to be with the local security settings, how can the settings be adjusted when secpol. Msc is not provided in home premium?

Slow Boot Time When Nas Is Not On

I just recently built a new computer and installed win 7 professional 32 bit. I have a nas that is turned off because i think it is about to fail. Making all sorts of loud noises and so forth. When windows loads it stalls with a black screen for a good thirty seconds before taking me to the desktop. It also warns me that it cannot connect to that nas. Before i told windows that it was there it would immediately boot up. Is there any way to tell it to not try to connect to it? I know i can just disconnect it within the my computer screen but i didnt want to lose my drive mappings.

Backup And Restore - Windows Can't Find Restore Image

I created an image backup with windows 7. It created a large vhd file and appeared to complete correctly. I copied the image to my thumb drive and tried to do a restore. I can find the thumb drive and browse it and all the files are there but if i try to do a restore it doesn't find the restore image. I also tried putting it on a network drive - it can't find it there even though i point it to the share it is in. I've tried using a restore cd, as well as installing windows and using the recovery in control panel.

The folder structure is as follows
Windowsimagebackup\computername
Under that folder are three folders
Backup 2012-07-15 232717
Catalog
Sppmetadatacache
Metadataid

It seems odd there is no obvious way to just say this is the vhd - right here in this folder - use it and restore.

Go Back To Old Driver

Ok so i summed it up in the description what is happening is i uninstall the 195. 39 beta drivers and there nvidia control panel hangs in my windows control panel after uninstall but it dose not point to anything after this so the drivers are clearly uninstalled. How do i remove a stuck control panel icon? I used the guru3d drive sweeper for nvidia and no go. I even went into reg like nvidia told me to do and removed there keys as nvidia was uninstalled no go it will not leave forcing me to reinstall the beta and fix it that whey. Which gives me back the worse beta drivers then the last ones. This is last time i listen to nvidia and install beta stuff. If anyone can please help me remove this stuck control panel short cut i will gladly uninstall these betas again.

Back To Vista

I installed win 7 upgrade over windows vista. But unfortunately not very well. All programs are gone, but i still have the "windows. Old" folder and now i want to get back to vista. I've found the following instruction: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971760/de , but when i type in the command "move /y. " After pressing the enter button, it says "access is denied" and i do not know why.

How can i get full access for it? The net admin is active, but that shouldn't influence the commands because i start the "repair-program" from the dvd.

Downgrading Back To Vista

A while back i used my copy of windows 7 home premium upgrade on my mother's computer. In retrospect i should have looked into how many different computers i could install onto but i had heard so many things that i was under the belief it was two instead of one. Months later my mother calls me to inform me that her windows is no longer working and the cd-key i gave her is no good. Her computer came with vista pre-installed and i don't have a disk available for her. The key for it is still located on a sticker but i'm not sure if there is a way to downgrade without the vista disk. She needs this computer for work and bills so it would be much appreciated to receive a speedy answer.

How To Turn Hardware Acceleration Back On ?

Ok, i just installed windows 7 professional 64-bit on my laptop. Relevant specs are as follows:

Processor: intel core 2 duo t9800 @2. 93ghz
Ram: 4. 00 gb ddr3
Graphics card: ati mobility radeon hd 4670 w/ 1. 0 gb ddr3 dedicated graphics memory

Even though i had a few problems with windows vista home premium 64-bit (what i had on the laptop before i upgraded), i never had any problems playing games or other 3d applications because of my gpu's hardware acceleration. For example, i could run google earth with my processor never going above 15% usage.

When i installed windows 7, i was very impressed at how much faster it was than windows vista. It was very noticeable in everything from how fast it started up and shut down to how fast it loaded all the files in a folder. It was almost like getting a brand new computer.

That is, until i fired up celestia, a free 3d program that renders the solar system and about 2. 1 million other objects in a 3d model. I had never had any problems with this when i used windows vista; it ran perfectly smoothly and my cpu never even topped 12%. Much to my dismay, it started dropping frames left and right and the orbits of moons were popping in and out as i got closer to them. I checked the task manager and my cpu was hitting 89%! And this was despite the fact that the amount of ram in use was almost 300mb less than it had in windows vista.google earth ran with similar numbers.

I did some poking around and i discovered a very nasty fact: my hardware acceleration was turned off and there was no way for me to turn it on. Ati's control program for windows 7 doesn't even include an option for it. I also checked the directx settings and they are all enabled to max settings. Still no dice.

My question to you is: how do i turn the hardware acceleration back on? Can i turn it back on? If not, i'll have no choice but to go back to windows vista, because without hw acceleration, there's no way i'm going to be able to play any games more demanding than doom 3 or counterstrike if i can't even run celestia without problems.

Win 7 Rc - How To Switch Back To Vista?

I installed win 7 on an separate internal hard. But when i started my computer, i cannot boot into my win vista ultimate on the c drive. Win 7 just took over. I have all of my programs on the cdrive. I don't want to use the win 7 rc and have it go dead on me when it expires. Does anyone know how i can switch back to my win vista, of which i had no problems with ever? I cannot afford to put out $219 for the upgrade or $350. 00 for the full version. Times are hard right now for a lot of people and microsoft dares to charge this amount?

How To Get Classic Folder Icons Back?

How can i get back the folder icons from windows xp? I need my folder icons to be flat square folders, which i can customize with one photo from inside the folder shown on the front? These open folders sitting sideways with documents and pictures falling out, are driving me crazy. I work with thousands of photos every day and need a quick simple way to identify what is inside each folder. Now i have to spend hours opening each folder and looking through the photos. Such a waste of time. Why is such a simple folder icon gone in windows 7? I need it back!

Rolling Back Operating Systems

I just discovered that by upgrading from vista to windows 7, i created a problem with my hp dv9000 laptop. So now if i want to ever be able to use wireless again i must uninstall windows 7 and go back to vista. Can anyone either provide me a way to roll back the os or to solve the problem without changing os. The problem is odd, i did the same thing to my work laptop and i am still able to use my wireless air card, and with my home laptop i am unable to get online with any wireless. It seems as if the system no longer searches for wireless connections, any feed back is most welcomed. Anyone with hp now know they refuse to develop drivers to support windows 7.

How To Downgrade Win 7 Back To Xp Pro?

I think win 7 is a more stupider version than vista. I want to downgrade back to my xp pro. I just bought my dell laptop less than 30 days and i have an equivalent dose of 60-days headache. Most zip file cannot open. All exe. File cannot open and many icons that is user-friendly in xp are gone. Why are u guys punishing us like that? Sure, i can go google for solutions but do we want to do that everytime some nightmare like that crops up while we're doing our work. Half way got to go google for solutions. I mean c'mon and what's more frustrating is still a lot of downloads or softwares, paid and free (esp) still don't quite accomodate win 7 platform that's why i keep getting error message / file cannot open (as mentioned above). Pls tell me can i get my downgrade back from microsoft? I believed i read in some publications u guys do allow downgrading for win 7 (sorry forgot to bookmark coz at that time i'm still wth xp pro so don't see the need to).

Computer Does Not Turn Back On After Standby

This doesn't seem like a windows problem, but it's only happened since i upgraded from xp to 7. Basically any time i turn the computer off or it enters standby it won't resume right away. When i press the power button the drive and fan spin up for a couple seconds before shutting down again. Nothing appears on the screen. After 15-20 minutes the problem disappears and the computer resumes as if nothing happened. Has anyone heard of this happening before? The computer is a dell precision m4400 running windows 7 64bit ultimate.
