Where Did My Cd, Dvd Go?

What has happened to my printer, cd & dvd as well as the erratic functioning of my mouse? I have run the very latest virus definitions in avast antivirus, in addition to adaware, emisoft's anti-malware and malawarebytes anti- malware programs. I even ran microsoft's own troubleshooting and fix-it solution. The ms program did detect the cd & dvd but came back with code 43 for port_#0002. Hub_#0002 and code 43 for port_#0001. Hub_#0006. What does this all mean?

Additionally, my mouse's erratic functioning varies greatly. Sometimes it works normally as it should and then in the next minute it can barely be made to move. I have a microsoft wireless mouse model # 1058 and a wireless keyboard model #5000. The optical drives are: tsst corp cd dvdw sh-s223f scsi & hl-dt-st bd-re ggw+h20l scsi. I am using win7 pro and have an amd tripe core 8650 with 4 gb of ram. I have two wd raptors running raid 0+3.

Dvd Maker Cannot Create The Dvd

I'm getting this like everyone else on a windows 7 64 bit. The dvd burner is turned on, working, etc. I have 251 gb of free space. The problem is that this error message is so worthless, i.e. No real specifics like "out of space" , "codec error", "invalid input file", "hey, i just don't like you"  . There is nothing to work with. The input is a home movie avi which plays just fine in windows media center. The "just die for no apparent reason" point seems to be 38% in windows media center and 17% in windows dvd maker and the blank disk is kicked out.

If nothing else microsoft ought to build a fix that at least dumps some useful error messages about the failed process so there's a direction to take. At least under dvd maker the status was "encoding" and it dies during that. Windows media center tells you nothing, but the vague error. Oh, yes i did try again after a fresh re-boot and am running nothing else. Same problem.

Dvd Maker

Win 7. I own this dvd. So i thought i would give this a try before looking elsewhere. "Regular" dvds have about a 4gb or so capacity and so i loaded up about 4 ripped vob files totaling 3. 5gb into the program and it told me it was over capacity. It seems that the program only recognizes 150 minutes. One vob file of only 1gb takes up about 120 minutes. It seems the program will not add files by size but rather by 150 minutes max.

Is this a known limitation of the program or did i do it wrong. Do i need to convert the vob files first in order to fit more on the dvd? Btw the vob files loaded up very nicely, played well and i was able to add transitions etc. But i need a program that will let me write back to disc the 4 + gb capacity of the disc. Tia.

Dvd Autoplay

Simple . Autoplay on the dvd cd rom drive doesn't work. I have dell inspiron 1764ok this seems to be a problem. There are suggestions on the websites but none of them work for me.microsoft wake up. You haven't provided a decent answer. Reinstalling software is a time consuming and useless answer - it don't work. I have vmware - but uninstalling this is not an option! - So don't even suggest it. Tried reg entries . Noticed that my not play auto-play in local machine /software/microsoft etc entry is set to 255 - not good i think. But what do i set it to. Tried control panel and auto-play settings. They were blank any suggestions would be helpful. This is more annoying than anything else.

Cd/dvd Issue

My cd/dvd drive can read and burn cds but isn't reading dvd or dvd-rom discs. It allows me to burn data to dvd-rs, just isn't reading them or any dvds. I want to try reinstalling windows 7 or possibly even downgrade to windows vista but am afraid i won't be able to if my cd/dvd drive continues to not want to read my windows 7 disc. I checked to upgrade my drivers and have done so. Hopefully the dvd lens isn't just messed up because i don't want to buy a new one when i'm just gonna give this laptop away to my sister. Any ideas?

Cannot Backup To Dvd

I have a compaq presario cq6-215dx notebook pc on which i have clean installed windows 7. (Originally the system came with vista installed). I have repeatedly attempted to back up my system with no success. Each time i"ll get through a disc or two and then i get the "backup did not complete successfully" and event viewer registers the following error- "the device, devicecdrom0, has a bad block. ". 1342 times in the last 24 hrs? This can't be the dvds. I am using sony dvd+rw, 1-4x discs. I've gone through numerous discs and refuse to keep wasting discs.could tis be a controller error. Dvd drive problem. Or a problem with the backup program.

Not Able To Play Dvd

I'm having problems with mine as well with the same error message. I am using windows 7 professional 64, i have updated to all the latest drivers and am still receiving the error message "windows media player cannot play this dvd because there is a problem with a digital copy protection between your dvd drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card. "

Older dvd's that i own are playing successfully, but those released within the last year are all receiving the same error. I have tested this on twilight, new moon, transformers and none of those mentioned are playing. The dvd's that i have listed have been purchased at wal-mart as well as best buy. The codec pack in which i am currently using is cole2k.

Fixing Cd/dvd Drive

My cd drive has been missing for several weeks, and do not know exactly when it disappeared. I went through the deleting upper and lower filters as most places say, then rebooting, and it didn't help. I have created a new reg file and merged, and that brought the drives back, but they did not show that a cd was in. It has since disappeared again, and i do not have lowerfilters.

I have tried system restore, but i always get an error code because it "cannot access the file". I have updated the firmware from the dell website, and ran several different virus scans. Itunes and my computer say the drive is missing, but device manager says it is functioning correctly and completely updated. My dvd drive is there, it is only the cd drive. I am running windows 7, and have a dell inspiron 1750.

Also, i checked my brothers computer, who has the same set-up, and his registry files are all identical to mine, and his drive works just fine.

My dvd drive disappeared even though i stopped making virtual dvd drives for iso images. Sorry for bad spelling. When i want to make a partition rpc server is unavailable. Dvd drive is not in device manager. The hardware and devices troubleshooter thinks i have no dvd drive. I have no iso imaging programs now but i need one.

Dvd-rw Drive Disappeared

I install a antivirus software in my laptop and then suddenly my dvd-cd-rw drive disappear. I have a vista premium and after i understand that the antivirus is for window xp. I don't see the driver when i go in to my computer. In the device manager there is no dvd drive. There is "a" drive and i uninstall the software and restart my computer twice; but the dvd-cd-rw drive did not come back.

I then reboot my computer, lost everything, the software came only that day and did not work properly because it only work with a cd not a dvd. But by the next day it gone again. So i don't wont to reboot my computer again because it will eliminate 10gb of my hard disk space. So my question is whats next?

Cd/dvd Drive Has Gone Missing

I have a new computer with windows 7 professional 64 bit and everything was fine but now my cd/dvd drive has gone missing. It's nowhere to be found in explorer and if i insert a cd or dvd nothing happens. I tried the troubleshooter but it tells me i don't have a cd/dvd drive. It's also not listed in device manager. I'm a complete non-techie type of person but was wondering if my drive has just gone kaput or maybe one of the leads internally has become disconnected. The computer is only about 3 months old. I have done all the updates that have been recommended. I would love it if someone could give me some ideas about fixing this.

I have tried everything i can think of. The dvd player hasn't been removed physically and reinstalled. Also, when i put in a dvd the player spins, but nothing is detected.

Dvd Drive Is Very Slow

I encountered another problem with my dvd drive " it does not work properly, as i can see root folder of dvd disk, but if i try to open any sub-folder or copy any file from root folder it freezes. For instance, i tried to start ms office 2007 installation from dvd but can't even execute setup.exe from root folder (was patiently waiting for 1+ hour).

After some research on the internet, i removed upper filter settings from windows registry (there is no lower filter). It helped a little bit, so i can see content of sub-folders (after 5-10 mins of waiting) but, still can't execute anything. Appreciate your help to fix it.

Computer details:

Msi p35 platinum, q6600, 4 gb ram, samsung sh222a, few sata hdds, nvidia geforce 9800 gtx
Windows 7 ultimate x64 (clean install from retail box)

Peripherals setup

Ide:
Master: internal dvd-rw, samsung sh222a
Slave: none
Sata:
Sata 3-7 various hdds (all seagate of various capacity from 750 gb to 1. 5 tb)
Raid: ide
P. S. The same setup works fine with windows xp

Ps. There are few files in sub-folders (winxp opens them in milliseconds). Also, i checked ide controllers, dma is enabeled for all drivers. Even log on win7 indicates tons of "error on cd drive during paging operation" events (no errors on winxp).

P. S. Cd cable is standard 40 pin, labeled as "ide cd cable" by manufacturer (asus). I've tried dvd in slave and cable select mode.

Win 7 Install Dvd

I recently bought a laptop that came with windows 7 pre-installed. I am looking to get a full install dvd set up so that i can re-partition my disk and reinstall windows onto one of two partitions, while installing linux on the other. I have a legitimate product key and i have installed the usb/dvd tool but it requires that i have an iso image to use. Is there somewhere on the microsoft site where i can obtain this for use with my legitimate key? Also, does a "system recovery disk" include a full install that can help me out in this situation?

Dvd Rom Not Showing Up

I loaded windows 7 onto my new computer. Everything was working fine. I loaded my programs that i use, updated those, and allowed windows update to do it's thing. After allowing windows to update and reboot it was then that both of my dvd rom's were missing from "my computer. " In device manager they indicate (windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware.

The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) when i uninstall the driver and reboot windows, the same thing keeps occurring. I've tried allowing windows the opportunity to search for a new driver however the answer is that i have the most current driver. What can i do to get my dvd rom's to appear again so that i can use them?

Upgrading With Upgrade Dvd

I'm planning on getting a laptop with windows 7 home premium soon. I want to have ultimate, however. I was thinking about using windows anytime upgrade, but the price is giving me second thoughts. Then i noticed that my university offers the upgrade version (retail upgrade, not anytime upgrade) at a lower price on their website. Is there any way to use the product key in that version to upgrade, or is using anytime upgrade the only way?

To clarify, this is not the full retail version. It's the upgrade version normally used to upgrade from vista or xp. I want to know if that key will work in wau.

Another question. Would it be possible to use the upgrade disk for a clean install of 7 pro if i currently have 7 home premium installed?

How To Burn Files To Cd/dvd?

How do i burn files to cd/dvd? I've spent the past hour trying to burn files to my cd/dvd. Even after i erase the disc and tell windows 7 what files to burn it tells me the files already exist on the destination disc or there isn't enough disc space on the destination even after i erase the darn thing.

Then when i finally get it start burning and even during what i perceive as the burning process that balloon keeps popping up telling me i have files ready to burn even though they were burned (at least that was the case the last time) i'm attempting to burn the same updated files that i burned a week ago. Apparently erasing the disc does no good. Am i missing something or is there an easy way to do this? Maybe some third party software would make things a bit easier.

Not Able To Burn Files To Dvd

Problems burning dvds i'm new to windows 7. I have read the instructions for wmp 12 and i cannot burn dvds. I had no problem in vista but this is a trial just getting the files into the player. Drop and drag doesn't work. I finally got the avi files into it but on one dvd player i have a pic and no sound and on the other sound and no pic. I used a dvd-wr, which didn't work at all and a dvd -r, which gave me the results i just stated. At one point, i got a list up of settings but i can't find it again. Both dvd players support divx. Can anyone suggest a solution?

Dvd Playback Codecs

I have not purchased widows 7 yet, but i know that xp will not play a dvd unless you have third party software installed. Will windows 7 have the same problem?  I saw an article that stated that windows cannot put these decoders in their os's, but i wasn't sure if that applied to windows 7.

The reason i'm particularly picky about this question is that i was doing a fresh install of xp last year and found a huge problem. I tried installing several different dvd software cd's and found that when i installed them, suddenly my computer would be unable to connect to microsoft.com. Weird!  I did this on several different computers on different internet connections. I could never figure out why this was happening (neither could microsoft tech support) so i would hate to have to put up with this same issue with windows 7.

Dvd Maker Screws Up

I have a brand new toshiba satellite that is preloaded with windows 7. I was so happy to learn that it had windows 7 dvd maker available. Once i started to load some photos for a slide show i went to preview the image slideshow. When the images began to transitions from one photo to the next and pan in and zoom out, some images would decided to kind of skip on the vertical edges. It was almost as though the images where to much for my computer to handle, but i have no other skips with any other dvd maker program, nor when i watch a movie.

What gives?
Any other people seeing this problem?
