Domain Server Not Reachable

I have a problem going to a certain website. Never had a problem before. It's www.Thegoodcook.com. It keeps saying. Internet explorer cannot display the webpage. Internet cannot display this website. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The domain name server (dns) is not reachable.
The domain name server (dns) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
There might be a typing error in the address.
If this is an https (secure) address, click tools, click internet options, click advanced, and check to be sure the ssl and tls protocols are enabled under the security section

Domain Profile

We have new install of windows 7 for a user who previously had windows xp. He has a roaming profile setup that has all his files and document stored on a network folder. With windows 7 the domain profile never syncs and in one instance the user change the font size, logged off and the entire changes made to the desktop and outlook were gone! Contents of my documents(over 2 gb) vanished. The users profile still works when he tried accessing it from another machine with xp on it. The user is set as a administrator on the domain and the pc.

Domain Issue

I have a problem with the network picking up a computer once it joins a domain. We recently aquired a laptop with windows 7 professional on it 64 bit, and the network is having problems picking up the computer once it joins the domain. I can go on ad and see that the computer is actually on there, but whenever i try to find it through my computer-> network-> everybody else computer is showing up but the new one is not there.

I have successfully added win7(64bit) computers to the domain and confused why this one seems to be so troublesome. If you need anymore information please feel free to ask and i will try to clarify things if you need it.

Network Domain Shortcuts

I've just installed windows 7 pro in our test lab. I have attached it to the testing domain and am looking to find out how to make shortcuts on the desktop for either the root level of the microsoft networks or for each individual domain/workgroup. With xp, i could double click on the 'my network places' icon, then click on 'entire network' and double click on 'microsoft windows network. ' this action produces a list of all available domains and workgroups available in the network. I could then drag one of these to the desktop to make a shortcut. This gives me access to just the computers that i'm looking for.

In windows 7, when i click on the network icon a list of all devices appears (after some time of searching). At this point i have to scroll through the huge list to find what i'm looking for. It just seems like to me that there should be a way to emulate the actions of xp in order to only get what is necessary. I shouldn't need to get all the information about everything on the network when i know exactly where i need to go. Does anyone have any ideas of how to accomplish this?

I was able to find a work-around by copying the network shortcuts i had created on an xp machine and they seem to work just fine, but there should be a way to get to these root level domains/workgroups without having to rely on a separate older operating system.

Connecting To Homegroup While On A Domain Network

I have a domain at home, so the connection is a domain network. I have one win7 box running home premium, which is my media center pc. I'd like to join my domain members to this machine's homegroup, but am obviously having problems. I have full control of my domain, are there any settings that can be changed to allow myself to join the mc7 box's homegroup? I would like to view content (movies, recorded tv, etc).

Active Directory Domain Services Unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) i can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: active directory domain services unavailable. I have verified that dns is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active. I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem. I suspect a registry issue as i have the same problem regardless of what problem i try to print with.

I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print. I noticed that these patches are for patches. I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says i do not have the "download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though i do. My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Active Directory Domain Services Not Available At This Time

I know this has come up before but i am at my wits end and i seem to have tried everything. I have a dell studio laptop running windows 7 connected by wireless to a bt home hub. It is connected, i thought locally, to a hp laserjet 1100 printer. Recently, suddenly, it refused to print out of word 2007 (and excel 2007)and the error message above has been displayed. I have tried re-installing the printer, both as myself and as administrator. I have tried troubleshooting, but this reconnects as a network printer and nothing happens.

I am not expert enough  to start doing professional things. Is there a fix or will i have to but a new printer? The annoying thing is that my imac works fine, but for some things i need to communicate via windows.

Network / Domain Group Enabled By Default?

Is network group or domain group supposed to be enabled by default? I ask this because i've heard from other people that having a network group allows other users to access/share your system. Also that none of these need to be enabled if you just want to be a single user.

Under computer name, domain, and workgroup settings it shows: "workgroup: workgroup" someone has been able to remotely control my computer for years now and i'm looking for any answers.

Dns Issue - Pinging Host Within Child Domain

I'm having some interesting issues with windows 7 dns.

Here are the particulars:

Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit machine, joined to a win2k3 ad. My domain for example purposes is called corp. Example. Info. I have a child domain: prod.corp. Example. Info, and in this child domain
Is a host: "test". So, test's fqdn is: test. Prod.corp. Example. Info. In this particular case "test" is a cname, but the error happens regardless of the dns record type.

My problem is if i ping test. Prod i get host not found. If i ping test. Prod.corp. Example. Info, everything works fine. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod, i get the correct results. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod.corp. Example. Info i get the correct results. (This tells me the records work correctly in dns) i have no firewall on my win7 machine, or anything funky.

I have other operating systems in domain: rhel4, rhel5, winxp, and hpux machines and all of them can correctly resolve "test. Prod" correctly. I haven't tried it on windows fista, as we're not running it here.

My c:windowssystem32driversetchosts file contains no entries, and is not corrupted.

I've tried ipconfig /flushdns, /release /renew, /register/ etc to no avail.

I have a reserved ip address in the dhcp scope for this particular machine, but the machine does get its ip from dhcp (not sure this matters, but including it anyway) all advanced settings on my win 7 ipv4 stack match the functional xp machine's settings.

I've done wireshark traces on both my win7 machine, and the xp machines, and here are my results:

Winxp:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

3) client machine sends a request to dns for "test. Prod.corp. Example. Info"

4) dns server returns a standard query response with the correct record.

On win7:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

At this point, the win7 machine gives up, and returns could not find host.
Naturally, i checked my advanced ipv4 settings, and verified they're identical to the working
Xp machine. Any microsoft gurus out there have any insight?

Unable To Join 7 Pro To Sbs 2003 Domain

So far i've been unable to join a new laptop running 7 pro to an existing sbs 2003 domain. Whenever i try to use: http://servername/connectcomputer i get an http 403 error and it points to an iis issue, but, i can't seem to find a way around this issue. Then i tried going through system properties and computer name and change to join it. Then i get a 'can't locate domain' message. I've tried using the fqdm, only the server name, the domain name minus the extension and nothing works. At first i thought it was a dns issue, but, i can ping the server name or any other computer by name, with no issues.

Wireless Connected To A Domain For Multiple Users On The Same Laptop

I am in a hospital setting. We have several wireless laptops where users will need to connect to the wireless network and be able to login to active directory. I have found a way to do this for a single user on the laptop but these laptops are used by multiple users. Windows 7 will use one users domain credentials to connect to the wireless network and also login to the domain, but it will not do this for any other users that use the laptop. It appears that it will only remember one users credentials. I assume this is by design but i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this for multiple users on the same laptop. I know i could create a single service account to accomplish this but we prefer not to do this for security reasons.

Any other suggestions?

I can see the hard drive on my network but when i try to access i get a window to enter my user name and password. At the bottom it says "domain: laptop. The network settings on my laptop specify workgroup. Any suggestions? It also says "windows security at the top of the window. I wondering if there is somewhere in windows security i could disable it?

Dns Server

I have a windows dell inspiron. I have a wired connection to the router and there is a problem with the dns. It says there is a problem with the dns server that it can't fix. My other computer is wireless and connects to the internet no problem. I can enter the ip address and get to the website but not the www.Msn.com type address. I spent hours with first my internet provider, then microsoft, then dell (who assures me there is no hardware problem). As best they can figure it is a third party software conflict causing the problem.

My latest attempt to solve the problem was to install windows 7 (before i had windows vista). After 3 hours of going online with no problem the same "dns configuration" problem cropped up. During all these problems i am able to download torrents using utorrent. Does anyone have any ideas? I am at a loss.

I am volunteering for an organization where i need to install hp media-smart ex490 windows home server to 5 windows 7 machines. I have really very basic "setting up" question if someone could help please. All i know about it is that i will have to connect it to the modem or a wireless router so that it gets connected to the network. What after that?

1. How do i access the windows home server (whs) ui on all the 5 machines ?
2. Do i need to buy a separate monitor for the whs (windows home server)?

Dns Server Problem

I purchased an hp mini netbook at xmas time. It came with windows 7 starter. I use it mainly for work. In the beginning i had no problem with being able to connect with my wireless work network. Just this week however, i have the issue with it connecting. It tells me that it is connected but without internet access. When i run a diagnostic on it, it tells me "dns server may be experiencing problems". When i run further info on it, it tells me the problem found is "your dns server might be unavailable". I'm not very computer savy, so it goes without saying that i have done no changes to my computer since i got it. Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Print Server Issues

I have a trendnet te100-p2u1p print server that is not playing well with windows 7 ultimate 32bit. The server worked well with my network, win xp sp3 32bit and the hp psc950xi. Run the server install cd and i can print test pages like crazy. I connected the hp to the win7 machine w/ usb and loaded the windows update driver and it works well. Reconnect the hp to the server, run the server install cd and win7 finds the server and sees the hp. It asks to reuse the existing driver and i say yes. I send off the test page and win7 does not show any errors but nothing is printed.

The local printer port is created and the ip address is correct, looks the same as in xp, but can not get it to print  tried to install new printer and create the same port config but that causes print errors in queue. So there are two different problems. I have installed printers in the past using these methods but not with win7. Any suggestions on where to correct my issues with printing?I almost forgot, i searched this forum for help with the key word p2u1p and found "http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/gettingreadyforwindows7/thread/bc837a7a-768c-41c5-85a7-9c89a556511f"

But it does not allow me to view the replies. This forum getting ready for windows 7 must have been removed.

Server Login Failed

I have a server running on windows server 2003, all the other 5 computers are able to map the drive in the server and login with the credientials i have. The problem: i just goit a new computer, custom built, i installed a fresh copy of windows 7 everything works fine, the internet is working, i see all the computers in the network and i also see both servers in the same work-group. I can go in the server and connect to the new computer using the correct login. However, when i try to map a drive on the server, it asks for a login username and password. I type in the right info a million times, and it says login failed, unknown user or wrong password.

But all the other computers connect to the server with the same login. I cannot login the server at all, both servers. Every time i type in the login info, it just says that the login failed and it gives me a refresh ( so i can retype) and if i keep pressing enter with the "wrong password" it does not lock me out or anything, it seems like i'm not even connecting or anything. I am pretty knowledgeable with computer, this has never happened, i have tried everything, this is not something common.

Print Server Problem

I have a d-link dp-300u print server. T has 2 lpt ports and 1 usb. I am using 1 lpt and the usb. Windows 7 finds the print server in network under other devices and even shows it with a name as a computer. Double click on that open it up and allows me to see the 3 ports on the server. If i try to connect at that point the os tells me that it cannot connect. I have gone the route of setting my printers up as ip ports and used a generic network print server listed there but as soon as i reset my router, the print server goes to another ip addr and i lose my printers.

I also tried to statically set the ip address of the server but i cna't get that to work either as the router just assigns an ip and pays no attention to what the server may want to do. Windows 7 finds the server under devices no matter what and finds it under computers. So why can't it automatically connect ot my printers?

Dns Server Is Not Responding

I use my laptop at home and work. At work i can no longer connect to the internet, my laptop is connecting to the router, but the router isn't connecting to the internet, my isp has confirmed that my service is working fine. The message i am getting is that the "dns server is not responding". I've gone into the ncpa. Cpl and looked at the settings there for "internet protocol version 4 (tcp/ipv4)" and they are as my isp has recommended, all automatic. Obviously i can't get any online help whilst at work - so having to ask all this from home - very frustrating, self employed, and this is killing me!

I am using an adsl router, and ethernet cable, and i have windows 7. I have tried another router with wireless, and that is doing exactly the same thing. Laptop is connecting to internet at home no problem. Everything was fine last thursday, and on friday it wouldn't work, can't remember if i had any updates on thursday when closing down - but probably. By the way, i'm not very it savvy, and a lot of the jargon used on these forums is baffling to me, please can any answers be written as if you're talking to a total idiot! I can follow commands, but i don't understand what i'm doing!

Server Is Busy Program Not Responding

Recently i have noticed that when i am working on my laptop, windows 7 stalls and gives an error message of server busy and program not responding. I have purchased the system in april and have only added 3 programs that i use for work. When i use the self help or the troubleshooting program, the system says there is no problem and to get help online. I end up manually shutting down and restarting the system. It works for a while but does not remain consistent.

I have also noticed my outlook program seems to blink in the search section of the menu even though i have not used this feature. Can anyone provide any insight as to why this is happening? Oh i almost forgot, on the help menu it states there is a link to assist me and suggest that i "click here" for the answer. Well there is nothing to click on and when i click technical support link, it stalls again. Help me please.

Hp Laserjet 5m Drivers For Print Server

I work for a small private college and we have several old hp laserjet 4, 5 and 5m printers on campus. There are all network printers that are managed by a central print server. We have started to deploy windows 7 - 32 and 64 bit. We have not been able to find a driver to install on the print server. I know that if the printer were connected directly, it would automatically install, but we need an . Inf driver. Has anyone been able to work around this kind of problem?
