How To Manage File Types In Win 7?

In xp, one can go to control panel -> folder options -> file types , choose an extension, then choose advanced and typically see a list of actions associated with the file type. One can change the default action and/or edit an action to change the program/command used for that action. I haven't been able to find a similar facility in windows 7. I do know about control panel -> default programs where one can change the primary program association for a file type, but this doesn't provide the list of actions. Does the described facility exist in windows 7?

Pdf File Association Not Found In Live Mail

If a message received in live mail on a windows 7 home premium 64 bit machine contains a pdf file attachment, that attachment cannot be opened from live mail. Word file attachments and others can be opened.

When the attempt to open the pdf file attachment is made, the message informs that "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. " If the file is saved to the local computer, it can be opened normally, as the file association is correct. This is confirmed by typing assoc .pdf in a command window and receiving the response ".pdf=acroexch.document". How can opening pdf documents from live mail be accomplished without saving them first.

Live Mail - Importing Messages From .pst File

I recently purchased a new computer which runs windows 7. My email program is windows live mail.

My old computer had windows xp, and i used outlook as my email program. I saved all my email messages from outlook (old computer) into a ". Pst" file on an external hard drive, before wiping my old computer's hard drive clean. I need help transferring (or extracting) my messages from my . Pst file, into windows live mail (new computer).

So, to summarize:
1. Old outlook email messages stored in a . Pst folder in an external hard drive
2. New computer runs windows 7, and email program is windows live mail
3. I want to transfer my old emails (stored in . Pst file) into my new computer.

How can i accomplish this task?

Importing Outlook Express 6 Mail Into Live Mail

This has been addressed many times before, but i'm hitting errors each time i try to perform an import. I've pointed win7's live mail in the direction of a perfectly-good folder contain both xp's outlook express 6 *. Dbx files, and have imported these files into outlook and exported them to a *. Pst file (into the same folder).

When attempting either import i'm receiving the same message: "no messages can be found in this folder or another application is using the files".considering the process is so simple i can't work out what i'm doing wrong.

Live Mail And Mail.west.cox.net

I am an 69 year senior citizen and when i try to use windows live mail it doesn't recognize my webmail password saying it is invalid. I tried reading the posts but they are soo tech oriented that i don't understand what they are saying. Do you have simple instructions on how to make mail. West.cox.net work, link or merge with with windows live mail program. I have a computer running windows xp home edition sp3. At shutdown i get winlogon.exe-application error the instruction at "0x5ad71375" referenced memory at "0xffffffff". The memory could not be read.

Click on ok to terminate the program click on cancel to debug the program i then get blue screen with stop:c000021a{fatal system error} the windows process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000) the system has been shut down. At start up i get a window to view details. Winlogon.exe error signature szapp name:winlogon.exe szappver:0. 0. 0. 0 szmodname:uxtheme.dll szmodver:6. 02900. 5512 offset 00001375. I really don't want to go through the daunting task of doing a complete system restore. Is there a hotfix for this problem?

Lost All Of Imported Mail In Live Mail

On my windows xp laptop i used outlook express through my gmx account. My computer crashed so i bought a new one with windows 7. Since oultook express was no longer available i used windows live and imported all my folders and emails and synced to my gmx account. Everything was there and working fine now today all my read emails in my inbox are gone and all my folders. Years and years of work on several projects. The account is still working and bringing in new emails from gmx and hotmail but everything that was there, except unread emails, is gone. Can i restore it from somewhere? I no longer have the original backup.

Live Mail - Only Get Mail As Administrator

I have a hp desktop that came with vista and was upgraded to windows 7. I had a hard job getting any windows live mail. I can only get mail if i log in as an administrator. I think it has something to do with permissions and parent permissions and a few other things i don't understand. I have tried to change a few settings in the properties box and a couple of them have told me if i continue with the change i fooled with i would never see e-mail again. If i just try to start it normally it says it is configuring mail and just disappears. The only thing it really screws up is that i can't send articles and papers via e-mail.

Live File System Will Not Save File

Live file system will not save file!Windows 7 and udf will copy several files and then you get to the last file which is 700 meg and the space free bar under the dvd rw drive shows 1. 2 gig left. The copy starts and runs till about 350 meg left then it slows down all the way to 17 kbs and also till 10 k was left on the dvd. By this time about 5 hrs have gone by and the copy window has showed 1 hr left for 3 hrs. The cancel button won't work task manager when used will crash the system. You can force a shut down but then you have to reactivate norton with your purchase code. A search of the internet for me was no help at all.

Live Mail

I have a desktop and a laptop that are both running windows 7 home premium. I thought i would try using windows live mail and i really like. The only problem i have is that i want to be able to access my emails on both computers. How do i do this? I want to be able to create a 'mirror' of my desktop one. I'm using hotmail. And is there a way to stop the emails from getting deleted from the hotmail server? So i can still go onto hotmail.com and see my emails? If i haven't made it clear, please ask me for more information.

Live Mail Gripe

Have upgraded to live mail withy w7 and find one thing very annoying. I use mailwasher to screen my email before i bring it into the computer. I set live mail to not check automatically because that's what mailwasher does. After a period of time live mail checks anyway. It also always checks when it comes out of hibernation. When i asked ms tech support about why it does that, i was told it was built into live mail. Really?

Why should ms decide whether i want to check mail automatically and why do they have the checkbox to turn it off if some software writer thinks i should do it even if i don't wnat to? Does anyone know of a work around or way to turn this off permanently?

Live Mail Signatures

I have set up live mail with a number of e-mail accounts. Each account has its own signature stating the address of the individual e-mail account and the url of my website. All of the signatures show up in the 'insert > signature' option and the correct signature for the e-mail account can be inserted into the e-mail body.

If i choose the 'add signatures to all outgoing e-mails' in 'tools > options > signatures', a new e-mail will open with the default e-mail address signature (as expected). However, clicking the 'from' button in order to choose a different account from which to send the e-mail doesn't change the signature. Should it?

Live Mail Not Readable

I have been working with windows 7 review candidate and just recently upgraded to windows 7 premium edition via upgrade from vista. I had been using windows live mail. Once the upgrade was complete my mail appeared to work properly however, i am unable to open mail that was received prior to the upgrade, i am getting a message that "message cannot be found. The contents of this message cannot be found".

However all of the mail that been received after the upgrade is readable. How can i read the mail that was received earlier. Is there someway to recover these emails as they do appear in my "in-box" folder.

Live Mail Problems

I recently bought lenovo g 460 and windows 7 and downloaded windows live mail. I had been using outlook express 6 / windows xp on my old computer. I imported my old mails into windows live mail.
I noted following problems:

1) some folder names in windows live mail were changed automatically and not same as outlook express 6.

2) for some old outlook express 6 imported emails, when the emails on the preview pane and reading pane are different and the problem remains the same on clicking the preview pane. Simply, while i see an email dated 10 march 2010 from mr x with subject a but on reading pane, it is dated 7 jan 2010 from mr y with subject y. As such, i have lost few important emails.

3) to my surprise the same problem persists for new emails received on windows live 7. Temporarily, for new emails i have solved the problem by forwarding all emails to a web-based mail. But there must be a solution.

Problems With Live Mail

I am running windows live mail under windows 7 professional to access my aol email accounts, which are on an imap basis. I am using a brand new laptop that has a 1tb hard drive and 8gb of ram, so size and speed are not an issue. The first annoying problem i have is that every time i close out mail, i get a message saying it is purging folders. Five seconds later i get a an error message saying the server has disconnected, so the job did not complete. I then need to close those windows.

Secondly, when i am replying to messages, it sometimes takes 5 to 10 seconds or more for the wheel to stop spinning. If there was an attachment to the original email, the message i am sending does not disappear, even after it is sent, which makes me wonder if it has been sent. It also takes an excessively long time to delete messages.

I have used several other email programs in recent years, including outlook express and have never encountered any problems using the same aol accounts and format. Are there any setting changes i need to make, or are these problems known glitches between windows live mail and an aol imap account?

Live Mail Is Not Responding

Recently windows live mail has stopped responding. I am running windows 7. I installed windows live essentials and the mail programme has been running ok for a couple of months. Suddenly it has stopped working. It goes through the sign-on page and displays the main application interface, but the hourglass icon is displayed and i cannot access any option. The title banner says programme not responding and eventually i have to force close it. While i have it open i seem unable to use internet explorer either. Whilst this persists i cannot access any of my stored emails or my local calendar or contacts. It affects all users on my pc in the same way.

Cannot Re-install Live Mail

After windows live mail said it could not open the data base because it had moved (i had not moved it) i thought i would fix the problem by uninstalling it, then reinstalling it. What a pain! The installer for windows live says i already have mail installed and there is no option to reinstall.

I have now deleted all files that i can find relating to win live but the installer still says i have all the programs related to win live installed, i have done registry scans, virus checks, spyware checks etc. & Definitely have a clean machine. Clearly there is still some remnant of the program that tells the installer that the program is installed.

This is ridiculous, i have wasted a whole day trying to fix this problem & have as a consequence lost a lot of very important emails, & have had to download another email client so i can get emails. I want my live mail back! What do i have to do to clear the remnant file that is causing the problem?

If i want to send a mail to a friend (part of group friends) then i can't find immediately the address. With outlook express, this was possible. What can i do to realize the same like before ?

Live Mail Receive Issue

I have just set up windows live mail, on my laptop, using the same email address that i use for my home computer. I have sent an email to the home computer which has two accounts, . The laptop will send out to my husband mail address on the home computer, and receives back from that. But when he sends one back out to me my home computer will not receive it. I also sent mail to an other account, the reply was received on my home computer, but not on the laptop. If i send an email from the laptop to myself it will come back to the laptop and not to the home computer. The home computer is run off vista and laptop windows 7.

I am getting this error code with windows live mail on my new netbook, but only on outgoing messages, i am receiving incoming fine. I have checked the settings for the outgoing mail smpt server, and the other account settings. They are exactly the same as my other laptop. Live Mail Error When Opening

I'm having problem opening windows live mail. Im using windows 7 64bt. I ran advanced system care and then windows mail would not open but im unsure if this is related. The message which comes up is: "windows live mail could not be started. Ther application was unable to open the windows live mail message store. Windows live mail was unable to locate it's message database. If you've moved the database files to a new location. Click ok to reset the database path to that location. Otherwise click cancel to proceed. Any existing messages will be available under orphaned accounts (0x00000000. 2)"

*Clicked ok* windows live mail could not be started. Ther application was unable to open the windows live mail message store. Your computer maybe out of memory or the disk is full (0x80070002)
Ive tried program repair and uninstalled and re-installed but the error message still occurs.

Live Mail Suddenly Disappeared

My live mail was working ok until it suddenly disappeared. I did a system recovery but still missing in action. It appears om my taskbar but when i try to start it i get the message that it is looking for the database and then that it was unable to open the message store and something that messages will be found under orphaned accounts. And then a new message about my pc being out of memory or disk is full (0x8000fff. 1400) which is totally wrong since i only use about 30% of capacity.

The programme is operating somewhere in the background cause when i open my mail on the net directly with my isp many messages show as read although i have not opened them. So clearly lm is operating somewhere in the background but can not be found or opened directly. Any solutions?
