Volume "failed" After Assigning Drive Letters

I have a 300 gb hard drive on a win 7 ultimate system, partitioned into 4 dynamic disks. I reassigned one of the drive letters yesterday with the disk management plug-in. Now the disk management plugin shows the four pieces with the relabeled piece split into two pieces and shows a fifth volume of size 300g (the entire hard drive). The fifth piece is described as "failed" and "missing". In addition, the d: drive is now as labeled as the system drive, although c: is the system drive. Reactivating the missing volume does not succeed. Suggestions, anyone?

Installation Failed - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

Windows xp to windows 7 installation failed. "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd". Trying to install a legal copy of windows 7 (not downloaded either, actually purchased disk). The disk is an upgrade disk and i am upgrading from windows xp (32-bit) to windows 7 (64-bit).

When i attempt to install it, when it gets to "expanding windows files" i get the error message "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd into drive d:" and the installation fails regardless of whether or not i click "cancel" "ignore" or "continue". What is wrong?

I ran a system upgrade check before and everything seems to be ready for the 64-bit.

This question has been asked before but no solution proposed on this forum that i found. Everything is is so slow too! Just to get to the initial installation screen takes 20 minutes and when it begins installation it stalls at 0% for 30 minutes before it throws me the error. How can this be so hard to upgrade?

After Upgrade Error - A Raid Volume Is Degraded Because Of A Failed Hd

I have hp pavillion pc with dual raid 1 wd 400 gb drives. After installing window 7 home premium 32 upgrade from windows vista i am getting error message stating "a raid volume is degraded because of a failed hd". I ran diagnostics on hd's at startup in bios, and both hd's passed with no problems. I called hp and they have no answers accept to reinstall operating system. They say the problem is not with hard drives since they passed the hd tests. The computer works fine except for this raid 1 hard drive issue.

I also installed latest intel storage matrix console, and it shows a problem with the hd on disc 1 as follows: hard drive 1 - usage:  array member - status failed.

Raid Hdd Was Not Assigned Drive Letters After Install

Boot manager installs on wrong hdd and raid hdd's was not assigned drive letters after install. This is first time i installed windows 7 and after updating motherboard bios and mixing the hdd boot order i find out in the end that the files windows require has been installed on my mirror raid instead of the system disk stripe raid. This annoys me a bit, do i have to plug out all my hdd's except the ones i want to install windows 7 on to ensure the booting is independent of other hdd's?

(Another annoyance was that the mirror raid did not show up under my computer, which after installing every driver known to man i found that a drive letter had not been assigned. )

Security Issue With Sharing Root Drive Letters

I use the wifi ability of my lg ally smartphone to access lan shares with estrong file explorer. When i built a new pc which runs windows 7 home premium os, i shared a couple folders and tested to make sure i can access them from my phone. What i saw was unbelievable.

According to any information i have been able to find about sharing files and folders in windows 7, it is supposed to be impossible to share a "root drive" (the entire drive content, like "c:" and all its sub-folders) in windows 7. You can share a folder, but not a whole drive. Well, estrong file explorer, running in lan access mode by wifi here, is showing me all the drive letters (i have several) of my windows pc, and their sub-folder content on the screen of the ally phone! Even my other cat5 connected pcs can only see the folders i have set for sharing on the win7 pc. I am only stopped from accessing a few folders on the win7 computer's c drive. Aside from that, i can access every drive letter and all of their folders and files, even though i do not have shared folders on most of those drives.

Of course i do not have any of the root drive letters shared because windows 7 won't even let me attempt to do that. I can't explain how this is working, but it seems like something microsoft would want to look into. I can repeat this action any time i want. I did have to create a user account for the phone to even get into the win 7 pc via wifi, but with that information the phone seems to have full access to the entire pc.

Dual Boot Works But Drive Letters Don't Match

I took a 1 tb drive and split it into 2 primary partitions. I installed xp on partition c with an image. I installed win 7 on partition d from scratch.

The dual booting works fine. However, in win 7, the drive i installed win 7 on is listed as drive c. The drive i installed the xp image on is listed as drive d. The files for each, however, are listed on the original drive letters (xp on c and win 7 on d). It really gets confusing with i install a program in win 7. It claims it's installing the program on drive c but it's actually installing it on drive d.

Any idea what happened, or how to correct this? I've set up systems to dual boot in the past and never ran into this problem.

Magicjack - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

When i try to open a page from windows mail, i get a box with the above caption. It reads" the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume magicjack into drive g. "Has three choices to select, retry, cancel, continue. If you click on any one of the choices several times you then continue on to the page you have selected in the beginning.

How do i get rid of this box that is requiring this other step tp open pages? I have looked on line and found many others with the same problem with other installations so i know it is not the magicjack causing the problem. However, there seems that no one out there has a solution either.

Clean Installation Issues - Wrong Volume Is In Drive

Clean installation issues results various transient faults - mostly hangs. One reoccurring message is "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd"

I'm using a retail version of windows 7 premium that i purchased tuesday night. I've tried on and off for the past three nights to install w7.initially, i had xp on the machine and installed w7 via the backup of the xp files and using the network for additional patches. The install hung towards the end after i entered a password for the user account (e.g. Drives dead, mouse/keyboard unresponsive, etc).

So i hard-cycled the machine. At this point i was able to log on, but the dvd drive or my second internal drive would not function. I figured something had went wrong with the install over xp and i had no issues with trying a clean install, so i went for that it next.

Prior to the first clean install i removed my second hd and all usb devices to minimize the hardware in play. Once i started running the clean install i've seen mostly hangs during the file extraction process (3%, 11% - haven't got to 62% yet :o) ). One error message in particular i"ve seen is listed in the title "please insert volume grmchpxfrer_en_dvd".

Some things i've tried: the package and disc were in mint condition when i purchased them so hopefully there are no issues with the integrity of the dvd. My machines dvd drive is in decent shape and i have recently installed other operating systems and watched dvd's without a without a problem. I don't believe the disc or drive are issues.

I've messed around with turning off the floppy, usb and ahci support in the bios. I've tried installing the 32 and 64 bit versions. I tried to access drivers off the gigabyte cd, but that didn't work so much. At this point i'm open to new suggestions :d

My hardware:
Gigabyte ga-p35-ds3l - http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16813128059
Wd raptor - wd360gd
E6850

Striping Existing System Volume / Disk Drive

I'm just wondering can i convert my current single os disk to be striped in windows 7? I'd like to get a bit of extra hdd performance but i don't want to have to reinstall windows. So i'm wondering if you can do this on a live system disk.

My board has some hardware raid support but i think that'll wipe the disks if i try and make a raid with them. I don't think the hardware raid performance on these consumer mother boards is that great anyway so a software raid will be fine if i can do it.

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

Assigning Logon Script To Local User

I wrote a c# code that creates new local user

Directoryentry localmachine = new directoryentry("winnt://" + environment. Machinename + ", computer");

Directoryentry group = localmachine. Children. Find("administrators", "group");

Directoryentry user = localmachine. Children. Find(accountname, "user");

Console. Writeline(user. Properties. Tostring());

I tried to set the logon script for that user by doing:
Localmachine. Properties["scriptpath"]. Insert(0, "logonscript. Vbs"); localmachine.commitchanges();

Same with group or user instances. But the property doesn't exist in any of theses instances (localmachine, group or user). I know that because i did:
System.collections. Icollection col = localmachine. Properties. Propertynames;
Foreach (object ob in col) { console. Writeline(ob. Tostring()); }

Any idea of how to do that in other way?

Assigning Lpt/com Port To Usb Device

How to assign lpt/com port to usb device? I am running windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I have old pos (point-of-sale) components with old pos software (registware) that is not working properly. The components i am referring to are:

1. Receipt printer (star; model: sp200-2 )
2. Pole display (logic controls; pd3000 )

They are old components, with parallel and serial cable connections respectively, but i bought usb conversion cables which are used as current connections to computer. The proper drivers are installed and my computer picks up these devices, and show that they are working properly. However, the registware pos software i am running requires me to specify the ports locations in which these devices are connected, and the only options include com and lpt ports (lpt1, lpt2, com1, com2, com3, com4 ).

How can i assign a com/lpt port to these devices so i can get them to function properly with my pos software?

Missing Letters On Keyboard

My keyboard's letters fade away after a few weeks of use. I have alerted microsoft to this problem and they have replaced my keyboard, very promptly, twice, making this my third keyboard. I contacted microsoft and asked them what i could do. Apparently nothing! I tried painting the keys with clear nail varnish to no avail. I was hoping that perhaps microsoft could embed the letters on the keys - but so far, nothing has been done to my knowledge.microsoft have been more than helpful in every other respect. Does someone out there have a solution?

Failed Hard Drive After Win7 Upgrade

I recently upgraded my pc from vista to 7 home premium. A week later my hard drive had a mechanical failure and is now beyond repair. Luckily i backed up all of my data to an external drive for security before upgrading so i have all of my files. I have a replacement blank hard drive but i want to know if i can install windows 7 having already activated the product on the old drive. Also, will i have a problem with the fact that there is no previous version of windows on my blank drive? Can i use my upgrade disk to do a full install on a new drive?

Keyboard Skips Key Letters In Ie8

I have found a problem with the internet explorer 8 and windows 7. When the last windows update took place, it caused a problem when you are typing on any search engine or msn messenger. When you are typing in any other program, ( microsoft word, etc. ) There is no problems. What happens when you type online, is the typing skips letters. I have one system with ie8 and windows xp on it and the other system that has windows 7 with ie 8.

I spent about 6 hours trying cables, keyboards and other things and finally load safari on the windows 7 system and haven't had the typing problem with it. I would like to go back to ie 8, but i can't afford to have to retype the missing letters. If you can get this fixed, then i would gladly go back to internet explorer.

Usb Flash Drive Driver Install Failed / Not Recognized

I plugged in a flash drive to my laptop the other day and i got the plug and play message, it downloaded the driver but the installation failed. Now windows 7 will not even recognize that the flash drive is plugged in or try to install the driver again. The flash drive still works on my main computer just fine and other usb devices including other flash drivers work just fine on this laptop. Device manager and computer management under administrative tools do not register it as being plugged in either.

I could not find a way to check if maybe the driver did install and was corrupted. Is there anything i can do?

Upgrade On New Hard Drive Because Of Failed Hard Drive

Anyway to upgrade on a new hard drive because of a failed hard drive with vista on it? I had a pc that came with a pre installed version of vista home 32 bit, however my hard drive has just totally failed, is there anyway that i'll be able to just get the upgrade version and install it on my new hard drive, or as i beleive to be the case, will i have to get the full version of windows 7. My pc didn't come with any sort of vista install disc.

As i said im fairly certain i know the answer and its that i get a new hard drive and will have to get the full version of 7 but just wanted to check with people who know far more on the subject than i do.

Backup Failed, Backup Drive No Longer Detected

Windows 7 kept bugging me about creating a backup, so i finally decided to. I chose to backup the default items onto my d: drive. I let it run, left for a bit and came back. It failed at 70ish%. Tried again. Same thing. I didn't have a whole lot of time left so i decided to just forget it.

I deleted the incomplete backup files on my d: drive (there was a c: backup file and mediaid. Bin) since there seemed to be no use for incomplete backup files.

When i got home and turned on my computer, post took longer than usual. My sata 2 drive was undetected. Sata 2 = my d drive. When windows starts to boot, it freezes when the windows animation is doing it's thing. I tried repairing and restoring from previously known good configuration and still nothing. I used my win7 disk to check for problems, and i even used that to restore to a point prior to my failed backups.

What else could i try? Why would my d: drive suddenly be undetected in bios, and why would a failed backup cause my windows installation to freeze? Edit: i unplugged the data cable from my d: drive and now windows boots. So deleting backup files royally screwed up my d: drive?

No Memory In Volume D: When Trying To Install

. I have a gateway. I don't know much about computers, but it's a quad core, has windows 7, 1tb hard drive, 8 gigs of ram. Something says "dx4300 - 01h" if that is relevant. Earlier today, i tried to install softimage modtool for practice in the 3d industry, so i went to  #this link and downloaded it# . So it was all going good, but once it actually started to install , this happened. http://i757. Photobucket.com/albums/xx215/mrfluffbutt/other/untitled.png

That's a link to a screen cap i took of the error, as well. So i had my friend try and help. I have disabled my dvd/cd drive, named. Hl- dt - st bddvd ch10f ata device. I have installed vcredist_x86, (c+ 2008, c+ something or other) and it installed fine (the c+ update). But trying to instal x64 (2005), it also says my "volume d" is full, even with the dvd drive disabled.

How can i over come this one tiny error message, and still get softimage? Is it something with gateway? My certain dvd drive? I have not done anything to my computer lately, other than install photoshop.

Volume From One Program Not Working

I think i accidentally disabled the volume from one program because whenever i open up the program, it's no longer showing up under the "volume mixer" as an application. Every other program i open has it's volume working just fine and shows up under the volume mixer as always.

My question is how do i get the volume working from that one program again? I was fiddling around with some volume controls when my headphones weren't working (i finally realized i had them plugged into the wrong slot) and can't remember how i may have disabled the volume from the program. I've been searching all over the place for a solution, tried troubleshooting, and i can't find this issue (or a solution) listed anywhere.

Lost Volume Indicator

I recently upgraded from windows 7 home premium to windows 7 professional. The sound on laptop works fine, but i was wondering how i could get this to reappear. I have a e525 model emachine.

Video Volume Problem

I just bought a new laptop and after playing with it for a day, i decided to watch the "getting started with windows 7" videos that came with my new laptop. This is my first new computer in 8 years and i figured something may have changed since the first windows xp came out. Well, even though the audio on my new computer worked great on my music and the games i have run, i can only hear the audio on these darn video instructions from microsoft if i hold my laptop up to my ear.

I have the volume on my computer maxed. When i am playing a gome or listening to music on my new laptop, my sister yells at me from the other room to please turn it down and i only have the volume turned up to mid range. What can i do to get this fixed so i can learn about my new computer?

Wmp12 Volume Leveling Not Working

I have "collections" or "mixes" i've downloaded with different bit rates and the higher ones like 320 are much louder and annoying during playback. I've followed the instructions here about setting the volume leveling and not only is it a time consuming process, it doesn't seem to work.

I heard that burning then ripping files back to the pc with the volume leveling applied is supposed to work but the problem is that doing so with 15+ files from either different artists or by one artist from different cd's messes everything up by putting everything into various artists for the artist and the original cd name instead of the xxxxmix heading and is a laborious process to reassemble.

I've considered using another media player, but i also have a zune and don't want to have conflicts with a non ms media player in the mix. Not that having wmp doesn't have problems!

Does anyone know what the problem is or can suggest a better way of doing this?
