Error - Do Not Have Permission To Save To That Folder

When i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I was a vista user and created these files and folders on 'd' drive. When vista crashed, i began using win7rc for many months and had no problems accessing the folders and files on 'd' drive. Yesterday i installed rtm. Now when i download files and try to save them to my folders in 'd' drive, i get an error that says i do not have permission to save to that folder. I am the only user and am an administrator.

I used the same user name on the install of rtm that i had in rc. I did change the computer name during the install of rtm. How can i regain control of my folders. I do not have any trouble reading the files in the folders. I have set up my libraries the same as all user files are in 'd' drive.

Administrator As Only User - Permission Error

I installed windows 7, choosing custom to get maximum benefit over vista. The only user account i have setup is that of an administrator. I have not password protected it yet. I copy/pasted my mcafee program folders from my external hard drive to the programs folder and of course it wont function - i need to reinstall it from their website. When i try to delete the folder it drops an error message: folder access denied - you need permission to perform this action - you require permission from the administrators to make changes to this folder. As far as i can tell i am the only user and the administrator.

Dual Monitor, Unable To Save Error

I have had windows 7 installed on my computer for a few months. I use a hp pavioion zd8000 laptop. I also have a lg w2242to flatscreen monitor. In the past, extending my monitor was easy and worked just as described for windows 7. Recently i detached my laptop to go to a meeting. When i returned i hooked up my monitor and i now get an "unable to save" message when i try to extend my monitor. I can use one or the other monitor, but not both.

I have uninstalled the monitor driver and tried system restore with no success. Is there something that can be done so that both monitors can be functional at the same time again.

My graphics card is an ati readon x600 which has worked fine with the two monitors under xp and for a few months under win7. I did uninstall the driver for the graphics card too and reinstalled, but that did not help.

Default Save To Location Reg Key / Save As Location To My Documents

Can someone please tell me the reg key that controls where non office documents get saved to by default when you click save. For most things it defaults to my documents, but what controls that. I am not referring to the places bar, rather the location that comes up when the save as dialog box appears. Currently i have users who when they go to save a copy of a pdf or create one using cutepdf writer it is defaulting to a network location that we'd rather they not save to. I want that save as location to be my documents. If i manually navigate to my documents and save and then attempt to save other pdf docs they default to my docs so i know something has to be keeping track of the change. Can someone help?Os is windows 2003 server and we have a citrix environment if that makes any difference.

Error Code - 0x000006d9 - Cannot Save Printer Share

Two issues - cannot save printer share with error code 0x000006d9 and machine share is not accessible from workgroup network. I am thinking these are connected problems, but here are the separate issues, first - the fundamentals:

4 pc network using work-group with two windows 7 (ultimate) and two xp. All worked well with the previous one vista/ 3 xp network. All but the windows 7 desktop behave well. The network is wired with a cable modem to a netscreen ns 5xt (hardware firewall to the outside and hub for inside), a netgear wireless access point and using (as said before) windows workgroup.

All naming remains correct on all machines, all discovery settings are in place and each has norton internet security for its local protection services. The win 7 upgrades were to the wirelessly connected vista laptop and a hard wired desktop previously running xp professional sp3.conversion of xp was assisted on the desktop by laplink pc mover upgrade assistant. All applications run seemingly well on both upgraded machines.

On the desktop - i cannot share printers. When i use 'networks and printers' from the start menu to set sharing on a printer i get the error code 0x000006d9 stating something like the configuration can't be saved. All local printing works well.

Also on the desktop - the computer name registers to all as on the network (it is discovered and mapped by each pc) but when i try to access from any other machine i get a general error message that states something like 'check your name spelling dummy'. This win 7 desktop can browse the shared folders of all on the network  and write to any.

A little added data - this unit can ping all other in the network successfully but none get a successful ping into the offending machine either with ip address or computer name (times out waiting for a response or says name cannot be found). It can ping itself successfully. It accesses the internet quite handily.

Solutions have been attempted without firewall (norton internet smart firewall - 2010), with firewall and with various permission changes. A final discovery was that the windows firewall will not enable because bfe is not able to start - error 5 - access denied (this was discovered trying to enable a possible solution due to some internet chatter that the windows firewall needed to be running to set up shared printers).

All other dependencies are running making me pause about why bfe is not (it is running on the win 7 laptop as well as is the firewall). Permissions have been checked in the registry for bfe and firewall settings (ports, allows, etc) have also been looked at with a very critical eye. Sfc was run with no problems encountered. All the ports for net drivers, win 7 networking and other shares are opened in the firewalls.

So folks - i have researched the internet and tried many of the suggested solutions to no avail. My apologies in advance if someone provides a solution and i say 'already tried that'.

Rocketdock Folder Error

I installed rocketdock today and moved most of my desktop shortcuts and folders into it. Once i had the dock set up, i put all of my shortcuts into one of the folders in the dock, so that i would be able to restore my desktop to its original state if i changed my mind about using rocketdock. The folder that i stored my desktop information in also had many important files, folders, documents, and programs that i have accumulated over the past 3 years of owning my laptop. Now, i'm unable to open the folder to access any of the content inside.

I've already searched for all of the files and folders, but either found "no results" or an error message saying, "the file cannot be opened because it contains an incorrect path, would you like to delete this file?" I know that i can access my programs from the start menu, but i'm more worried about the files inside. I can't even access them through the respective programs that they should open with.

(Ex: i directly open photoshop and try to load a . Psd from my folder, but my computer gives the error message and then deletes the file. )I can't remove the folder from the dock without deleting it, and i can't find any way to open it or any of the files inside. If you know of a solution for recovering the contents of my folder.

In the beginning it said "you need permission from trusted installer. " But i changed that by going into properties. Under security tab, i clicked advanced option and clicked owner tab. I changed the trusted-installer to my user-name and administrator but i get the message mentioned above.

Error - File Or Folder Open Or In Use By Another Program

I am using windows 7 64-bit on an asus laptop, and recently ran into a strange problem. I have a shared hard drive on a desktop pc that stores all of my working files. I often work from the laptop across my wireless network, working on files stored on my desktop hard drive. The desktop is running win xp professional.

When i try and move a folder on the desktop hard drive using the laptop running win 7 i am getting the error"file or folder open or in use by another program, please close the program and try again"
The files are not open on the desktop or elsewhere on the laptop either, but nothing i do seems to unlock these files so they can be managed remotely from the laptop across the wireless network.

I found one forum post that said something about having to unlock the permissions for the file in windows 7? Is this the problem? And if so, how would one go about doing that? I have checked the permissions of the folders themselves, and they are set to full read write access for everyone, so i don't know what i could possibly change. This is a very annoying glitch, having to go to my desktop every time i need to move or delete a file from my shared hard drive!

Also i have had no problems in the past w/ my previous two laptops managing files across my network on this particular desktop drive. Those were running win xp home and media center edition.

Folder Redirection Error When Installing Programs

We are using folder redirection for the users my documents folder. We have to install programs under an admin account just to install it because the users (who are local admin) get an error 1324. The folder path 'foldername ' contains an invalid character. I have tried looking at the registry but not sure how this will affect the the system as there are a series of areas that this foldername is located in. We do not need to screw up items even more for the user then we have too. Issue is also that even when installing it under the admin account the user account is not always able to open or run the application correctly.

Folder Access Denied - Cant Delete Folder

Folder access denied

You'll need to provide administrator permission to delete this folder

Continue skip cancel

- I click continue and i get:

Folder access denied

You require permission from laptop/chris to make changes to this folder

Try again cancel

- I am laptopchris! (My username is chris on the login screen so i presume i am laptop/chris). Do i have to have permission to do something on my own computer? It's my computer! Im a newbie when it comes to windows 7. Windows 95, 98, 98se, me, 2000, xp im more advanced in, with vista im slightly there.

I have tried numerous attempts at the silly take ownership thing but it seems to have failed. The message i get up when applying the new settings is:

Error applying security information to :

C:users.

Access is denied

This is rather frustrating - am i doing something wrong? Would someone please provide simple, easy to follow, accurate steps to take ownership and provide me with a solution or better, a fix, if this doesn't work?

Deny Permission On Drive C:

I was tinkering with group and users policies when i accidentally assigned "deny" permission to "full control" on the c: root folder to the "users" group. Now, since c: is the drive where windows is installed, my sysop is pretty screwed up;even as administrator i cannot access any file on that drive, cannot install almost anything and more. Is there a way to restore the permissions on c: without reformatting and reinstalling? Please keep in mind that being c:  the system drive i cannot install anything like msi or msu packages. I think im going crazy.

File Access Permission

I am moving from an older laptop running xp to a new one which came pre-loaded with windows 7. I am unable to access a folder with all of my previous emails in various sub-folders entitled c:usercomputer administratorlocal settingsapplication datamicrosoftoutlookoutlook. Pst unless i log in as administrator. I went into security under properties in 7 and gave my non-administrator user account full access, yet when i try to open the above folder i am still denied access.

I suppose it has something to do with the "computer administrator" in the file name. How do i go about re-naming this file so it is accessible to the non-administrator user, or is there a better way to make it so that all of my previous email folders are available?

Denied Permission As Administrator

Frequently when using windows 7, i am denied permission to do something. I am told i must have administrator permission. Sometimes, i merely have to click continue to proceed. However, other times, i am just told i don't have the permission and that is the end of the story. I have recently been denied permission to install a new program from a dvd disk. The frustrating thing isi am listed as the administrator. I am the only person using the computer, and it is not part of a network. Does anybody know of a workaround for this problem?

Program Files Download Permission

I have a new windows 7 laptop (64 bit), and struggling at times to learn how to use it. I'm in the habit on my windows xp desktop, of downloading setup/installer files into program files, where i set things up as follows:

Program files
-Adobe
-Games
-Tetris
-Tetris program
-Tetris installer
-Inkscape
-Inkscape program
-Inkscape installer
-Inkscape tutorial #1

Sorry, i can't figure out how to make a single-space. Hopefully you can see that i put my setup/installer file in its own folder, alongside the program folder, both within what i guess you could call an "umbrella folder". For example you can see that i might also put a tutorial or some other related item - i'm very organized. So when i download, i would put the setup/installer or zip file into 'inkscape installer' or 'tetris installer'.

Then when i install or unzip, i do so into 'inkscape program' or 'tetris program'. That's how i do it on my xp desktop computer, and have been for years. But here in windows 7, when i try to download into program files, i get an error message: "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. " I am the adiminstrator, my user account is the only one on this computer, and it's the adminstrator account!

After spending hours (5 or 6) with dell tech support, finally i am told that in windows 7, manual download directly into program files is not allowed. Files can only be installed directly or moved in after downloading elsewhere. I was ready to accept that and create a new sort of workflow for myself, perhaps keeping my installer files all in one folder, outside of program files. But then, while searching these forums, i came across this thread: http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/d2bb7c3c-bf0b-4ea6-8463-42461a56c105

It offers instructions for changing permissions. And i think i can probably follow those instructions without further help. But just before i did, i thought i should ask whether that applies to my particular problem, that i detailed above, including error message. Have i been misinformed by dell (it wouldn't be the 1st time). By following those instructions, will i be able to download in my usual manner? Or at the very least, can i try it relatively safely, without major complications?

I suspect that even if it doesn't solve my problem, it may reduce all the other permission related message boxes that keep popping up - moving files around, etc. I hope so anyway.

Administrator Permission To Delete A File

I have been running as an admin (i have since set up another standard account for my daily work), and i am trying to delete a folder on my external hard-drive. It says i need an admin/everyone's permission to delete the file. I am the only user. I have tried to change the settings for my external hd to share it and grant all users full control. I cannot find a way to change the ownership of it like suggested in one thread.

How can i delete files without getting this message that i need permission, when i am running as an admin or standard user?

Admin Account Problem With Permission

So in the control panel it says i have an admin account. But it's still telling me sometimes when i try to access files that i need admin permission. I'm also having this annoyance with office 2003 where i have to agree to the eula again every time i open it, and when i googled the problem, it says this happens if you're not on an administrator account. I'm having a similar problem with another program too, getting errors caused by running programs as if i'm not on an admin account. What's going on? How do i fix this? I am the only account on this computer and it does say i'm an administrator, so i'm pretty baffled.

Launch Specific .exe Without Asking For Permission

How do i launch specific .exe in win7 without it asking for permission? I set uac to high as possible because i am not bothered clicking yes a few times a day. However there are a few temperature monitoring programs i would like to start with windows without having to click yes and yes, as it takes considerably longer to have to do such things at startup it seems. I cannot find a way to cause permissions to remove this popup box, and do not want to remove the uac completely, is there any way around this?

Drive Is Not Accessible - Permission To Use Network Resource

I have done a clean win 7 64 bit install on c drive on my pc that used to be xp. The hard drive has two partitions c drive and d drive. The win 7 pc also has two other hard drives installed each with a single partition (e drive and v drive). The hard drives are not raid configured. The e and v drives were not involved in the win7 installation and therefore still have their xp configuration.
Prior to installing win 7 all partitions on all hard drives on the pc were accessible on the three other xp machines on my "workgroup" home network.

On the win7 machine i can access all drives on all of the xp machines. On any of the xp machines i can access the e and v drives on the win7 machine. When i try to access the win7 c drive or d drive from any of the xp machines i get:

"Pcpc (x) drive is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource" where (x) is either c or d depending on what drive was accessed.

I have tried un-sharing and re-sharing the c and d drive. I have also compared the property settings between the c and d drives that i can't access with the e and v drives that are accessible. Those setting are the same. Please advise any thoughts on what can be done to render my c and d drives accessible on my network xp pcs.

Unable To Get Permission To Connect To Office Server

New windows 7 pc unable to get permission to connect to office server (win2003). I work in a small office, which up until recently was just 2 pc's running xp, connected to a server which housed accounts and shared files and backups. We purchased a new pc pre-installed with windows 7 (home). We can find (tho not always) the networked drives and view them, but not get permission.

My knowledge of networking is limited, but i'm assuming this is because the win7 pc is not logging onto the server on start up, i have an account for it to log onto, but unable to ascertain how/where exactly to go to enable it to log onto the server. Would upgrading to professional cure this issue? Is there another way around this? The server is running windows server 2003. Can't think of any other info off the top of my head which may help.

Error - Program Doesn't Have Permissions To Modify Destination Folder

I installed windows 7 32 bit (accidentally). I am now trying to install 64 bit (from download) and after unpacking i get the error that the program doesn't have permissions to modify the destination folder or something like that. Any ideas? I also tried to burrow down into the unpacked folder and run the 'setup' but it told me i was trying to install the 64-bit version over the 32 bit version, but i thought i was doing a 'clean install' and not an upgrade.
