Nas Invisible In Network Map

I have 7 windows 7 computers networked via a gigabit switch and a verizon fios router. They all share access to an nas. 6 of the 7 display the nas just fine in the network map. The 7th, a netbook and the only one running 32-bit home premium instead of 64-bit professional, doesn't. I can access nas folders directly from the netbook using ip, but the nas doesn't show in the network map. More importantly it doesn't show as a backup location, so i can't backup that one machine.

Since the problem appears to be with the local security settings, how can the settings be adjusted when secpol. Msc is not provided in home premium?

Cannot Map Nas Drive

I am trying to map a nas box that we use for automated back-ups and i get the message "the network name can not be found. 0x80070043".

The thing it we just connect by its internal ip address, not server, host or computer name. It says name can not be found, it doesn't have to find the name i am telling it the address. On xp & when we had win 2000 we just put 192. 168. 1. 220 and it would ask for name & password and then connected. I can browse our other computers and map a drive to them if i wanted but just not the nas box.

I can also see the web interface of the nas by putting that ip address in firefox, and it is working fine on our xp machines, so i know it is up and running. Its just on win 7 it will not connect. I am running build 7100.

Win7 Will Not Map Or Access Network Drive

Windows 7 64 bit will not map or access network drive on network when connecting wifi. On copper it works fine. Windows 7 32 bit works fine on the same wireless network. I have two notebook computers. Both run windows 7. One 32 bit, one 64 bit. The network is a belkinn+ wireless router with one switch downstream. I have a wd mybook world 2 network drive on the network and connected to the switch.

When either computer is connected via copper the drive is accessible. When the 32bit computer is connected via wifi the drive is also accessible. When the 64bit computer is connected wirelessly, the drive is not accessible. It used to work. Something changed in the last few weeks and i don't know what. I think all i have done is installed microsoft updates.

After Upgrade I Can No Longer Map Network Drives

I've just upgraded from vista business to 7 professional (64 bit). With the upgrade i can no longer map network drives to one of my servers (running 64-bit server 2008) but i can map network drives for my server running server 2003 (32-bit). I'm running 32-bit windows 7 professional. I cannot map network drives on my 64-bit server 2008 server but can on my 32-bit server 2003. I was able to access these folders with vista business.

Network & Sharing Center / See Full Map

When i use the "see full map" in the network & sharing center it works fine and shows my pc connected to my switch then to the gateway to the internet, but after the machine has been to sleep and been wakened the map shows a question mark between my pc and the switch? The question mark is labeled "unknown".

Thinking this could be some sort of trojan i have scanned my pc with all of the usual virus detectors and malware detectors but nothing shows. If i do a reboot the map resets to what i expect, but if the machine goes to sleep or hibernate the question mark re-appears. I am using windows 7 home premium.

Map Network Driver Fail On Win 7

I have upgraded to windows 7 professional 64-bit from vista home premium 64-bit. Installed in a dual-boot so i can switch between systems.
I map two network pontiff drives as part of my normal configuration on vista. Attempting to map these same drives on windows 7 fails login credentials. I am using the same serve share and the same user name and password.

Items In Recycle Bin Invisible

I've got 3 systems running on windows 7 (64-bits), but one of them has a malfunctioning recycle bin. When i delete an item or folder, it does not appear in the bin, while the bin itself has a certain size and appears to be filled somehow. I cannot restore the deleted items either, but i can empty the bin.

I've already tried to delete/hide the recycle bin from the desktop and i've checked its properties several times, but i can't find out how to fix it. This problem was present from the very beginning, even before i had installed other applications.

Files Invisible Win 7 And Vista

All files on the external hd (a 500 gbmybook), thumb drives and even cds or dvds i put in the cd/dvd drive are invisible. I can see them on another machine running vista home premium. I can also copy files to the external hard drive and the thumb drives as well as burn files to a cd/dvd and see these files on another computer. So the files are there, i am just "blocked" from seeing them. When i click on one of these devices it says "this folder is empty".

Also when i plug in a digital camera, i have no problem seeing the photos and transferring them to my hard drive.

The computer is a 6 month old dell latitude running windows 7 64 bit. I had the same problem with vista business 64 and thought installing windows 7 would resolve it. Although it worked fine for about a month, the files on these devices went "invisible" again.

Is there some kind of windows update that causes this to happen?

Add Nas Shares To Index

I have a qnap nas with a number of network shares i'd like to add to the index. Under control panel > indexing options, the nas and any mapped drives are not listed, however an answer here indicates this may be due to an access right issue on the folder. Unfortunately the solution of adding system to the folder permissions doesn't work as the permissions on the nas are controlled by the nas itself (eg. , Adding mynasusername would work, but w7laptopsystem does not).

Is there a way around this? I have seen some symbolic link hacks, but from what i've read, it isn't bulletproof (ie. , Some actions such as printing don't follow the link properly and result in a file not found). I also do not want to make the shares available offline as i do not have the space on my hard drive to cache that much data.

It seems ridiculous that adding network shares requires all this hoop jumping - why aren't network locations available by default in the indexing options?

Slow Boot Time When Nas Is Not On

I just recently built a new computer and installed win 7 professional 32 bit. I have a nas that is turned off because i think it is about to fail. Making all sorts of loud noises and so forth. When windows loads it stalls with a black screen for a good thirty seconds before taking me to the desktop. It also warns me that it cannot connect to that nas. Before i told windows that it was there it would immediately boot up. Is there any way to tell it to not try to connect to it? I know i can just disconnect it within the my computer screen but i didnt want to lose my drive mappings.

Map A Drive In Win 7

When i try and map a network drive on a windows 7 machine from a vista machine it never sees the executable. It says i do not have permission. I have map many a drive in xp and vista but windows 7 wants you to belong to a home group but you can't if your not running windows 7. Windows 7 see the network and the systems. Vista see the network and the systems but you can't connect through the vista system. I have open up sharing in everyway i know how on the windows 7 system and it see the program on the windows 7 drive from the vista system but not the executable.

My customer always ran quickbooks through a map drive but not with windows 7. It just won't let you see it. I have talked to a couple of other it guys and they have the same problems. I try and troubleshoot with windows troubleshooter and it keep on telling me to start a home group but it says all systems have to be running windows 7. It is getting to be a pain. I like windows 7 and i like vista but this problem is causing me concern. Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

Can't Access Root Folder Nas Drive

Since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i can't access my root folder on my network drive (nas) anymore. In vista when i choose network it displayed me all networks including my nas drive, there i could select it and it would forward me to the nas root. In windows 7 it doesn't show me to nas and if i tell to go to root likezelst it will give me a permission / access error. The only way for me is to map a sub-folder on the nas directly likezelstfolder1 etc. I wanna know if i can make windows 7 show me my nas drive again and being able to access it's root folder.

Win 7 Drive Map Issues

I have a win 2k3 std r2 server and 100 xp-pro workstations connected via the lan. On the xp workstations i map the l: -drive to a shared folder on the server therefore l: ="\serversharedfolder (\fs1aim root). So i need to run an executable from a sub-folder off the l: - drive eg l:aimun.exe. This works fine in xp!

I have a new windows 7 professional pc joined to the domain. I need to map the same drive and run the same executable from the sub-folder off the l:-drive. I mapped the l: drive on this pc. I can open read, write to the l: drive and it's sub-folders but when i try to run the exe (as in the xp pro example above) windows 7 stops and prompts me and says;

"The run.exe is setup to run from l:aim but you are trying to set it up to run from \fs1aim_rootaim please correct the network drive mapping. " I cannot get windows 7 to recognize the full path (\fs1aim root) as the l:-drive when trying to run executable.

Win 7 Once Connected To Nas Drive Wont Recognize Upnp Devices

I have a laptop running windows 7 that once connected to a nas drive wont recognize upnp devices, is very slow to uninstall programmes, will not shutdown, and generally grinds to a halt. I have a western digital nas drive, an hp hdx18 laptop and a htpc connected together through a bt ethernet router. Every time i connect the laptop to the nas drive it starts to behave strangely.

1. It will not recognize any new upnp devices that i plug in such as external hard drives
2. The printer stops working - all print jobs are queued until after a reboot
3. Software uninstall can take a very long time
4. The machine will not shut down. It hangs on the windows shutdown screen with the blue circle spinning.
5. The machine seems to become unstable and slowly grinds to a halt.

The trouble started happening when i installed the wd software. However, i cannot be sure it was this that caused the issue as i was changing other software at the time. At the time i was running vista 64 home premium. I have subsequently upgraded to windows 7 x64 hoping that would fix it - no joy.

Further clues are that i have recently bought a htpc and installed windows 7 and the wd software. This works fine and does not show the same symptoms. I do suspect that the registry of the laptop may have some corruption (at least that is what free registry check software says - i have not bought any software to fix the issues). Do you have any idea what is wrong?

Mapping Network Drives On A Home Network Issue

I have two pc on my home network, one is a desktop running window 2000, attached to this is an external hard drive. The second is a laptop running windows 7. Before i upgraded to windows 7 i was running window vista on the laptop. When i had window vista on my laptop i was able to map a network drive to both the desktop's hard-drive and also to the external hard drive attached to the desktop.

After upgrading to windows 7 when i try to access the desktop or map the external hard drive i'm asked for a domain password. When i enter the user id and password of the desktop i keep getting the request for my domain password. I don't remember setting up a domain password at the time of the windows 7 upgrade.

Network Name

Running windows 7 home prem 32bit i just replaced my wireless router. I have 4 pc's connected in my network; 2 ethernet; 2 wireless. Prior to this change out when i placed my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbar of all pc's. All showed "banker".

When i started up the new router. The select a location window appeared on all pc's. I selected "home network". I had to do this on all pc's. All my connections are fine to all pc's. However, now when i place my mouse pointer over the network strength meter in the taskbars. I see on 1 pc. "Network 4", another pc shows "home 2". None of the pc's show the same.

I opened network and sharing center on one of my pc's; selected change adapter settings. I see the network . Its displayed as "local area connection" next line it displays network 4. And the next line my network card model is shown. If i right click, select rename. What is showing that can be renamed is local area connection. I want to change "network 4" to banker (which is was prior to changing my router). How do i do this?

Network Xp With 7

I get my new windows 7 laptop to recognize two other xp computers on the network. I have tried following the common workgroup advice, setting security to allow access and basic windows trouble shooting suggestions, but nothing seems to work. Sometimes all computers appear in the network window, but when i click on them to access, win 7 tells me it can't find them. Other times the xp computers don't even appear in the network window (seems to be random without me making any changes).

Is there any easy to follow instructions to get xp and 7 to network and give me the ability to share files and printers? I've tried doing this with w7 pc attached through wireless and hard wired network. Still had no luck. Can anyone help?

Network Drive

I have a home network with 3 computers running windows xp, a linksys router, and an older western digital my book world hooked to the router. Everything has been working perfectly for about a year. When i added a new computer running windows 7 (64-bit), i can access the my book world from the new computer using windows explorer. However, after some time (usually less than 20 minutes), the my book world freezes and won't respond to any of the computers. I realize that windows 7 is not supported on this drive. I am hoping to discover what to shut off in windows 7 to keep it from freezing the drive.

I was connected to a home network by ethernet cable that worked fine. I purchased a new computer with windows 7 for my main computer and am now using my ex-main computer as the second computer in the network which has windows xp as the os. Network Password

Have networked a new windows 7 system to linux.network looks good, but when trying to share files i get a prompt for a network password. When setting up, the software generated a ten digit network password. The system now does not recognize the password it generated. When i view in the vault i noticed that it is expecting an eight digit password? Why does it generate this password in the first place if i am an administrator? If i want one i will slot it in myself surely. Am not a regular windows user and i now remember why!
