Files Are Not Moved To Recycle Bin

My hard disk has two partitions: one is for software and the other is for data (documents, pictures, etc. ) When i delete a file from the software partition, windows asks: "are you sure you want to move this file to the recycle bin?" But when i delete a file from the data partition, windows asks: "are you sure you want to permanently delete this file?" When i view the properties of my recycle bin, neither partition has a check mark in "don't move files to the recycle bin.

Remove files immediately when deleted. " It seems as though windows is treating my data partition as a removable drive or a network drive, where files are not moved to the recycle bin on deletion. How do i get windows 7 to move files from my data partition to the recycle bin when deleted?

Files Disappearing From Recycle Bin

I have had this computer since christmas, and i love it. I have windows 7 and everything has worked perfectly up until i got connected to the internet in late april and so far it has been one problem after another. And that leads me to my latest frustration. Files that i have deleted to the recycle bin have disappeared. And i did not permanently delete then!So far i have not lost anything of major importance, except for some photos, but, that's not even a disaster.

However, i'm now afraid to delete anything, for fear that i would not be able to restore the item if i needed it. Fter losing a handful of files from the recycle bin, i did an experiment:  i purposely deleted some items/folders that were empty or contained stuff that i absolutely didn't need. I checked the recycle bin every day and for a while my deleted files were still in the recycle bin. Now, today. They're gone!

The only thing i did out of the ordinary was download an update for adobe reader. That shouldn't have any affect on what happens to the contents of the recycle bin - or would it?So, i really would like to know why this is happening. Alice bb**** as of today, june 22/10, i have tried your suggestion azeez n. As well as others from related topics and still files disappear from recycle bin.

Now, here's a detailed account of events leading up to the files disappearing from the bin, all from today. Checked my email. Created 2 unimportant word files and then deleted them to the recycle bin. Bell program did a scheduled anti-virus scan.completed. All ok. Opened action center, recycle bin  empty! Windows defender recommended a scan. Normal. Created 3 more unimportant word files and deleted them to the recycle bin.

Went to favorites clicked on microsoft answers, recycle bin empty again!Created 2 more unimportant word files and deleted them to the recycle bin. Signed in to windows mail;  checked mail;  signed out. Selected microsoft answers from favorites; checked my threads; checked some related questions; signed out. Java update notice popped up on screen. Allowed it to download. Bell internet security notice popped up saying it had found and deleted a virus and recommended an immediate scan to see if there were any further infections.

Did deep scan at 98% complete. Recycle bin empty again!Scan completed. All ok. All these instances happened in one day, today. What is happening? As of june 25/10 the problem still exists. I am almost certain than it only occurs when i am online. I am trying to monitor this more closely and will post the outcome. Sometimes it seems as if the recycle bin is on a timer and just empties on queue. One day it seemed to empty about every hour.

One thing is for certain, i cannot use the recycle bin in it's present operating condition. Can i completely delete the bin and reinstall it?  If so, how? I am just a novice so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

Restored Files From Recycle Bin Are Missing

New computer, ended up with a lot of duplicate files under my itunes library (don't worry, this is not an itunes question!) But they weren't really dupes, they were the same song showing up twice (same path and everything). So, i did a test run on one set (2 of the same song) and deleted them to the recycle bin. Of course, only one song truly was deleted and i restored it and added it back to itunes without issue. (I had to do a search for the song but i found it easily and it was a breeze to add back to itunes).

So, i brilliantly selected all the offending dupes and put them in the recycle bin. I restored them all and now when i do a search, i find nothing. I know what songs to search for and they aren't anywhere on my hard drive. I'm aware that what i did probably (or obviously) wasn't the right thing to do but too late for that now. Any ideas on where the files could have gone and how to get them back?

Recycle Bin

I'm running win7 ultimate and made an error, i attempted to restore a folder from the recycling bin. The problem is that i already had a folder on the desktop with the same name that i created after i deleted the first one. The folder on the desktop is intact but i seem to have lost the one from the recycling bin. I tried a system restore to the day before but it fails telling me it has a problem accessing a file. Is there any way to recover the missing folder or where might it be hiding?

Recycle Bin Problem

I am experiencing recycle bin problems with windows 7 professional. Right-clicking on the desktop recycle bin icon hangs windows explorer, forcing me to restart the program.

All right-click capability on desktop icons is also gone. Left-clicking on the recycle bin con lets me access the contents of the recycle bin, but clicking on "empty the recycle bin" just causes the recycle bin to hang, forcing a restart.

Supposedly there is a way to reset the recycle bin with the command line sequence "rd /s / q c:$recycle. Bin, " but i cannot right-click to create an elevated command prompt.

Any ideas on how i can get a fully-functional recycle bin back".

Recycle Bin Properties

On the general tab, the settings for selected location are grayed out, so i can't change them. And by default my single local disk (c:) is set to "don't move files to the recycle bin. Remove files immediately when deleted. "I can see the maximum size was set at 17286, but i can't change the recycle bin to actually use that location.

I can find the c:/$recyclebin, and note that the folder is set to "read only". And even if i remove the read only attribute and have it applied to all of the contents, the next time i look at it i find that it is still read only. Any way to re-enable the recycle bin?

Tab For Recycle Bin

Can't see files in he recycle bin from drives other than c:all files deleted from the root drive c: can be seen in the recycle bin. Having multiple drives (local and networks), if you delete a file it goes to the recycle bin, but you can 't see. Steps taken. I can see all of my drives' recycle bin when i change view setting to show hidden files. What i can't do - not sure i should be able to do - is change the attribute settings on the recycle bin's to deselected hide file. Maybe that is what's missing. Any suggestions?

Pin Recycle Bin To Taskbar

Ok, so i really don't like icons cluttering my desktop so i disabled the recycle bin but i want to have it on my taskbar, by my programs. It wouldn't let me pin it to the taskbar, so i made a toolbar with a link to recycle bin and it work ok, but here's the thing, it looks ok as a small icon, but when i set it to be a large icon to match my programs it stretches the task bar to be a little taller. This is really annoying me. Is there a way to make it the same as my other icons with out taking up more space with the task bar? It doesn't make sense.microsoft should do something about this.

Items In Recycle Bin Invisible

I've got 3 systems running on windows 7 (64-bits), but one of them has a malfunctioning recycle bin. When i delete an item or folder, it does not appear in the bin, while the bin itself has a certain size and appears to be filled somehow. I cannot restore the deleted items either, but i can empty the bin.

I've already tried to delete/hide the recycle bin from the desktop and i've checked its properties several times, but i can't find out how to fix it. This problem was present from the very beginning, even before i had installed other applications.

Recycle Bin Access Denied

I have created an "e" partition on my new win 7 computer. Everything is fine until i try to delete any file from this partition. Whenever i delete a file from here, i get the following message:

Recycle bin access denied
[Filename] can't be moved to the recycle bin.
Do you want to permanently delete it?

I can delete the item permanently, but i would rather use the recycle bin. This does not occur anywhere else but in the "e" partition. I have no problem deleting to the recycle bin or emptying it. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Unable To Empty Recycle Bin

I have been having problems with deleting files that were auto recovery or compatible files from previous software versions that i have tried to delete from my computer (one is an autocad file and the other is an excel file). I can delete them from my documents folder and they end up in the recycle bin, however, when i try to empty my recycle bin it will attempt to delete them, but never accomplishes the task. I have allowed it to run for hours, with the message "deleting 1 item (4. 62 mb) from recycle bin. Discovered 0 items (0 bytes per second)".

I have also tried restoring them unsuccessfully. I have also tried deleting the files from the recycle bin instead of emptying it without any better results. Is there another way to empty the recycle bin or repair the issue that is causing the problem?

$recycle.bin & System Volume Information

After installing window updates, in all the logical drives $recycle. Bin and system volume information folders appeared. Since both are system files so i didn't delete them and i tried to hide them but the hide option was unaccessible. Other window's folder which are by default hidden appears in all drives. The hidden option in properties are also blocked.
It seem that each drive contains lots of folder.

Help me, so i again make them hidden, because some times it might pe possible that it is being deleted.

Moved Target All Programs Under Start Menu

I moved the target where "all programs" under the start menu points to. How do i restore it? I recently installed windows 7 professional over windows vista home premium. A windows. Old folder was created on my hard drive which stored all my previous files. Once the installation was complete, i moved all of my files back to where they should be. However, my program files (c:program files and c:program files (x86)) were not showing up in the "all programs" list under the start menu.

So in an attempt to remedy this, i opened the "all programs" folder by right-clicking on it, right-clicked the programs folder, then on the properties tab changed the location target to point to c:program files. Unfortunately, this did produce the desired results. Each program folder lists all sub-folders and files associated with that program (not just a shortcut to the program itself).

So how do i restore it back to the way it was? The original programs folder is no longer there. Also, if you know of the right way to have my programs appear in the "all programs" list under the start menu, that would be much appreciated.

Can Xp Mode Base Vhd File Be Moved?

I told it to put the vhd drives on the physical "d" drive where there is more space. I had no idea this new-fangled windows virtual pc would ignore my clear instructions and waste space on my system drive, dropping files and folders from the virtual stuff on c: instead of d where i told it. I guess i'll do a system restore, put the old file in the c:program files folder from the last backup and then go through my usersdarryl folders (all of them) to find stuff the test install i just did got dropped on my physical system. Maybe i'll see if i can run virtual pc 2007 or sun's virtual box or something that listens to clear instructions!

Files Send To Dvd-rw Drive On Network Results In Deleted Files

"send to dvd-rw drive" when the source files are on a network drive results in deleted files! Windows 7 rc 7100. Have a mapped drive to another computer. I opened the folder, right clicked on a group of .doc files. I choose "send to dvd-rw drive". Responded to the prompt of "use like usb drive" or use in a cd/dvd player by choosing the 2nd choice. Then was faced with a prompt that filename.doc is no longer in this location cancel/retry/skip. All the files were gone! Not in recycle bin of either computer.

Programs Files Vs Program Files (x86)

What is the difference between the "program files" folder & the "program files (x86)" folder, in c drive? Various programs seem split almost equally between the 2, after i upgraded from vista to 7, except that internet explorer is in both, meaning that when i "open with" for a text file i get ie listed twice. Can i move everything to one or other of these & delete the other one? Is one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit programs or something like that?

A2c Files Downloaded As Zip Files

If you go to alice.org and try to download one of their image files, ie8 changes the extension from a2c to zip making the file unusable unless the user manually changes the file extension.

http://alice.org/index.php?Page=gallery/amusement park/index

In our school network users are not allowed to change the file extension so that does not work. I found that the user when downloading has to change the file type to all files and change the file extension then. This is a bother to have to remember. When i tried with a different browser (chrome) the a2c file was recognized correctly. The computers in my school are laptops running windows xp. At home my desktop runs windows 7 and the problem is there as well. There was no problem with ie7.

Docx Files Downloading As Zip Files

I am having an issue with docx files turning into zip files when i try and download them in ie8. I have done alot of research on this problem and have looked into the 2 main solutions to this problem: 1) set security settings to "open file based on file content, not file extension" to disable  2) check the mime type table on the web server and make sure the office 2007 extensions are added.

The first step i tried and the file was still trying to open as a zip file. The second one i was only able to ask the vendor because the web server does not belong to me, but the vendor said they were able to get the same exact docx file to download as a docx file and everyone on their end was able to. I am able to save the zip file and rename the file extension to docx and open it, but sadly this will not be an acceptable answer.

I've tried adding registry settings to allow it to open with docx files as well with no success.
I am curious if anyone has any other suggestions for me?

Install 32-bit Apps To Program-files Rather Than Program Files (x86)

On 64-bit win7, is it wrong to install 32-bit apps to (drive letter):program files rather than program files (x86)? If wrong should installer prevent this? If installer allows it, what app behavior is appropriate?

Background: winzip 14. 0 (a win7 compatible 32-bit app) won't run if installed to c:program files. If installed to any other alternate path or folder name it runs ok. By convention starting with vista, c:program files (x86) is for 32 bit apps and c:program files for 64-bit apps. But installers allow overriding the install path and folder name. e.g, maybe i want 32 bit apps in c:program files and 64 bit apps in c:program files (x64).

If c:program files is a restricted location for 32 bit apps, should not the installer and/or os enforce this, rather than allow installation then break the app? What is the correct practice for both users installing apps and developers porting apps to win7?

Custom Install - Program-files And Program Files X86

Custom install from windows vista hp 32 bit to windows 7 hp 64 bit leave 2 program files - "program files" and "program files (x86). Mostly same files in either folder. If x86 is needed, i don't mind but why duplicate entries with items like windows mail. I tried to to delete program files x86 without any success, and i would like to delete system-32 files in the windows folder plus any other 32 bit related items, if possible.

I do not want a system with duplicate and redundant files. Because two items that i downloaded and installed appear in both program files, i'm suspending any further actions on the installation until i'm fortunate enough to receive some help and/or advice from this forum.

Cannot Delete Files

I just moved from a computer with vista to one with windows 7 (64-bit). In doing, i saved a bunch of emails on the old computer as files, then copied them (over a wireless network) to the new computer. The browser was firefox; the files are . Eml filetype. Now, i want to delete some.

I can't delete the individual files: 'delete' doesn't appear in the context menu, and i can't drag them to the recycle bin. However, i think i can delete the entire folder: 'delete' is in the folder's context menu, whether the folder is in the left or main pane. But i don't want to delete the entire folder.

Now this is what i really don't understand. I go the folder's properties, uncheck the read-only box (it's not checked, but solid color), hit 'apply' and 'ok, " i get a window and it's running through all the files. But when i go back to the folder's properties, the box is filled in again. The read-only box for the files is unchecked, but i still can't delete then.

I ran windows explorer as administrator, but it doesn't seem to matter. The 'full control' box is checked in properties. Details.

I even added a "no need to keep" subfolder. I can copy the . Eml files i no longer want to that folder, but not move them, which is what i want to do (to clean out the folder).

What should i do?

The problem is, wtv converter that comes with win7 starts the conversion process and then dies off after converting like 5-6 minutes of the show. How can i diagnose this problem? Would a codec pack cause this? Better yet, is there an alternative converter for wtv into whatever?

Syncing Files

I recently set up my windows 7 computer with xpmode to run older programs. I've created a virtual drive (windows 7 (s:)) using a batch file in the host machine that points to documents in libraries. In xpmode i've moved "my documents" to point to the virtual drive s: which is documents on the host machine so i'm always working with the same files.

Do i need to have sync on in xpmode? It is set to sync on log off now. If i need sync i need to get the settings right because i get error messages when i log off that the tsclient couldn't connect (or something to that effect) and sync couldn't be completed.

No Offline Files

I have a user that has offline files enabled and syncing. When she takes her laptop out of the office, she can login and see her files, work with them and return to the office an sync the changes. Now for the problem, if she wants to connect to say a hotel wi-fi, she can do so, but after logging in she doesn't have her offline files. It appears that windows 7 creates a new profile for her. She is using her domain login credentials and does not change to (this computer) when she is connected elsewhere.
