Populate "all Programs" Drop Down Menu In Start Menu

How do i populate the "all programs" drop down menu in the start menu? When i upgraded from vista to windows 7, and clicked on the "all programs" drop down menu, none of the programs on my computer appear.

Moved Target All Programs Under Start Menu

I moved the target where "all programs" under the start menu points to. How do i restore it? I recently installed windows 7 professional over windows vista home premium. A windows. Old folder was created on my hard drive which stored all my previous files. Once the installation was complete, i moved all of my files back to where they should be. However, my program files (c:program files and c:program files (x86)) were not showing up in the "all programs" list under the start menu.

So in an attempt to remedy this, i opened the "all programs" folder by right-clicking on it, right-clicked the programs folder, then on the properties tab changed the location target to point to c:program files. Unfortunately, this did produce the desired results. Each program folder lists all sub-folders and files associated with that program (not just a shortcut to the program itself).

So how do i restore it back to the way it was? The original programs folder is no longer there. Also, if you know of the right way to have my programs appear in the "all programs" list under the start menu, that would be much appreciated.

Pin Programs Back To Start Menu

On my old computer i had windows xp. If you dragged a program from the start menu to the desktop it just created a short cut. The program was still listed on the start menu under "programs". In windows 7 when i drag a program from the start menu onto the desktop it is now gone from my start menu all together. And if you decide to delete the shortcut from your desktop you're screwed. The program obviously still exists but i have to open it by different means. Am i missing something obvious here? Also, windows 7 does not allow you to right click a program and create a shortcut on the desktop anymore? Only taskbar?

Duplicate Programs Folder In Start Menu

I've noticed that ever since i upgraded from vista to windows 7 there is a duplicate programs folder in my start menu under all programs. It consists a duplicate of all the shortcuts and folders already in my menu. I remember a fix when i had the same problem a long time ago, where you go to properties of the start menu and uncheck the default program box. Solution explained here:

http://jen3ral. Wordpress.com/2009/03/25/vista-start-menu-duplicate-programs-folder/

However this solution doesn't work for windows 7 and i've gotten the same or atleast a similar problem again. Is there anyway to fix this?

Clean Up All Programs Shows In Start Menu

I am going from xp to 7. In the start>all programs listing all programs downloaded is listed. In xp i could go to "documents and settings", create folders and put files listed in all programs into separate folders. This resulted in very few folders containing the downloaded files. For example, i had files listed as "business", "security", "internet" etc. How do i accomplish this in 7 so that my all programs listing is primarily folders and all the downloaded programs. I hope i made myself clear.

Changing Start Menu To Show All Programs By Default

How do i change the start menu to show all programs by default? I'm trying to figure out how to get the all programs to load by default in the start menu (rather than showing recent programs, which we want disabled). Is there a registry key that can be changed or created to accomplish this?

Programs Dont Run In Win 7

I am having a problem with windows-7. I have done a upgrade from vista and found that was a mistake. I did a reinstall as a dual boot because i still needed vista to run the programs that would not run in windows-7. I found that windows-7 is a bigger problem than vista. I had to do a download to run my hp printer that i bought in january of this year. I still cant run my hp photosmart 812 camera. The software won't load. I can't get microsoft age of empires-2 to run with good graphic.

I have about four more that will only run while i am in vista. I have written to hp and they have no plans to update their software. I ran the windows-7 adviser and my computer passed. If i had it to do over, i would not have gone to windows-7 from vista. I have not found any reason to change to windows-7. I am going back to vista and just write this off as a bad experience.

Classic Start Menu

I want to know how to get the classic format for the start menu. This question was previously asked by nice get but the ms engineer, debbie, who replied, missed the point. She answered about theme and using classic theme, which is just the desktop appearance. Please note: we want the classic start menu option. How do you obtain that in windows 7? Previously it was under the start menu box. I want to know how to get the classic format for the start menu. Start Menu Links Do Not Work

I'm using windows 7 ultimate. It was working fine. But a couple of days before, all the programs in my start menu have got file extension ". Lnk". Now whenever i try to open any program using start menu(eg: "adobe reader. Lnk" which should be adobe reader.exe"), it doesn't work/open. It seems like all the files in the start menu have been asked to open using internet explorer, so, may be, file extension has been changed to ". Lnk". Please give me an appropriate solution to resolve it.

Hidden Icons On Start Menu

I installed an old game (neverwintr nights) on my new win7 pro system and win7 told me that the game was not compatible when i tried to run it. So, i went and grabbed (manually) the latest patch and the game runs fine. However, the program group and program icons for the game do not show up on my start menu, even though they exist in the c:programdatamicrosoftwindowsstartmenu-programs folder, and they do not have the hidden attribute set.

The account i'm running under is an administrators account. Obviously there is some sort of setting, probably in the registry, which for my "safety" is blocking me from viewing and therefore using these icons. If someone could let me know how to turn off this very annoying "feature" i'd be very grateful.

Start Menu Closes Prematurely

I have got a problem driving me mad: as soon as i open my start menu or any other application's context menu it automatically closes within just a few seconds without notification or error. The crazy thing about this is the fact that it only happens when i log in using my usual user account. As soon as i create a new one on the same system, with the same set of installed applications and services, or simply log in as another user everything starts working just fine. I have already tried disabling every single application and service one by one when logged in as the problematic user but so far all in vain. Any ideas?

I run win7. All my programs try to start up in internet explorer. They can't open. The screen goes white and a run save cancel box appears. Can someone please tell me how to get the menu back to it original way. I believe all the programs are in a lnk file. Again, i am not sure. Thank you.

Changing Settings Start Menu - All Items Are Gone

I was changing settings in the start menu properties and all the items are now gone. These are the items that were there initially. Not sure what i did but i probably will remove all the items anyway and populate the start menu with my own items. Wondering what i could have done so i won't do it again. 2) in the start menu properties i don't see settings to display internet explorer and windows live mail. Do i really need to search for windows live mail in order to pin it to the star menu?

Unable To Access Start Menu Submenus

Some years ago i purchased powerdesk pro 6 and have used it under windows xp as a good replacement for windows pathfinder. I have now upgraded to windows 7 and have reinstalled powerdesk. Apparently it worked as usual. But now i have found out, that i cannot any longer access any of the sub-menus of the menu start: if i click on any of them (documents, pictures, games, control panel. ) Powerdesk opens instead!

During installation of powerdesk, as i recall it, i set or left sitting a mark in the option box "use powerdesk to replace "my computer and folders"". I have used the program's options|preferences|general settings to remove the mark and restarted the computer, but to no avail.

I now see on the producer's faq page that powerdesk is not windows 7 compatible. So i wish to uninstall the program. But i can't do that, because clicking control panel just starts powerdesk!
How can i get out ouf this very unpleasant cath-22 situation?

Explorer Crash - Cannot Open Start Menu

I experience a strange problem since today. As soon as i move my mouse pointer on the start button of windows 7 (home premium, 64bit), the explorer crashes. There's no way i can open the start-menu. I can start programs using desktop links normally, i scanned my system for viruses already and i didn't experience those problems in the past. The explorer just crashed and then is restarted (and crashes again as soon as i try to get to the start-button of windows). The only way to shut down my system is to use the task manager and i can only access programs by using desktop links. Most entries here deal with explorer crashes while using the right mouse-button - i can use right clicks without problem. So what can i do to fix this?

Xp Mode Application Not Appearing In Start Menu

I couldn't work out where it lived. I've been installing and tweaking windows 7 for the last few days, and my latest task was to download and install xp mode. I have installed an anti-virus program in it, (and numerous windows updates), and now i've finally been able to install one of my non-7-compatible programs on it, quicken 2000. The trouble is that, having installed quicken, it doesn't appear on my windows 7 start menu, so i don't think i can launch it straight onto my '7 desktop as i'm supposed to. (The anti-virus program i installed on xp mode does appear, but not quicken, for some reason. )Is there any way of manually adding this xp mode app to my windows 7 start menu, please?

Permanently Remove Program From Start Menu Recent List

How to permanently remove a program from start menu recent list? I would like to know how i can prevent a program from appearing in the list of most recently used programs in the start menu under windows 7 (pro).

For instance, "notepad" is in this list, but i only start it by double-clicking text files, never through the start menu. In this manner, 4 of 10 recent menu entries are shortcuts i'll never use and which take away space for other, more valuable shortcuts. I know that i can remove items manually using the right-click-menu ("remove from list"), but i would really prefer a way to make this permanent. Any ideas?

Manage All Programs Menu

Is there a way to manage the "all programs" menu? In previous versions of windows you could right click on the start button and select "open" or "open all users". I would like to clean up the "all programs" folder so things are easier to find. I like having my programs in sub-folders so that i don't have to scroll through all programs to find what i'm looking for.

Pin To Taskbar And Pin To Start Menu Missing

On other windows 7 computers i have i can right click on an item and there are two context menus, one that says pin to taskbar and one that says pin to start menu. On one laptop (also windows 7) those menus are not there when i right click on them. There are other similar threads, but none match my situation. I did not remove shortcut arrows via the registry or any other means. I verified that all registry keys are there/not there anyway, and that looks fine.

These are home computers, so there is no group policy. This issue happens on both administrator and user type account. I have tried both locking and unlocking the taskbar, so that is not it either. Besides, it also affects the start menu pinning. I would prefer a non-hack the registry solution, but am capable of making whatever is necessary work. However, i can't help but think that there is a "normal" way to address this issue.

Programs Start Problems

My computer (windows 7 home) crashed the other day and now it takes forever for any program i launch (eg. Of the desktop) to start. I have cleaned my computer and run full virus scans but it is still ridiculously slow. Its not that my computer is taking forever to start up, it just seems like it takes for ever for it to realize i want to open. Internet explorer, for example. It is bloody annoying and i hope someone knows what is wrong, please post a reply if you know how to fix it.

Get Programs To Start Minimized

I am running windows 7 64 bit professional with an asus p5k3 mb, 3. 0 ghz, 8 gig of memory. I did a clean install on a freshly formatted 500 gig segate drive. (Never had an operating system on it)  i have a verizon air card that is controlled by verizon's vzaccess manager. No matter how many times i change the run in properties to minimized, after loading once or twice, it always changes the setting to "normal", which of course makes it so that i have to click the minus sign to get it to the taskbar.

I had the same trouble with my blackberry manager software, but after about 10-12 times of making the change to start minimized, it finally does now. One of the first things i did after installing win7 was to install vipre before i even went online to activate windows, so i don't think it could be a virus.
