Access Is Denied To Second Hard Drive

I accidentally locked myself out of my send hard drive, my (l:) drive. I right clicked the drive, opened properties, and opened the security tab. On the security tab and removed all permissions for users. This has also removed all permissions for my only account on the computer, which has administrator controls. I have even enabled the built in administrator log in using the cmd.exe. Now when i try to open the l: drive an "access is denied. " Error appears. When i open the properties for the l: drive the security tab is no longer present. However, it is still present on all other drives'/folders' properties.

External Hard Drive - Access Denied

I recently moved from windows xp to windows 7. I am using the backup utility to backup once per week on my external hard drive. However, i would like to backup some files more frequently. When i try to backup or save a file on the external hard drive, i get the following error message: "unable to access disk in drive e:. Please make sure disk is ready and not write protected". How can i get access to this drive other than using the backup utility in windows 7?

Access Denied With External Usb Hard Drive

I messed up on this one. I was removing advanced sharing on an external usb hard drive. First i turned off sharing, then i went to the security tab and removed "everyone" which was the only user listed. I got a warning that this would only allow the originator to access the disc. Since i was the originator i clicked okay. Bad move! Now i cannot access the disc. I now realize that i should have added "administrator" to the users when i deleted "everyone".

Now for the question. Does anyone know how to restore permissions on this ntfs external usb hard drive so it can be accessed? Since access is denied, i cannot restore permissions with the advanced sharing wizard in win 7 ultimate.

Error Message - Access Denied - After Transferring Hard Drive To New Pc

"access denied" error message after transferring hard drive to new computer. I have changed laptops. The monitor went out on one it was going to be $200+ to fix so i bought a new one. For the purpose of information recovery i took the hard drive out of the old laptop, vista os, and put it in my desktop plugged up sata to move the information over to my external hard drive.

I go to the users folder on the hard drive and see the owner profile and the public profile. Unfortunately none of my information is saved in the public profile. When i try to access the owner profile is says: "access is denied. " I feel that this is probably in part to the fact that i had a password on the profile. Is there a way that the password can be deleted from this file through the registry?

Trying the drive as the primary and not a secondary was a failed attempt. The drive would not boot all the way through the startup because of hardware on the desktop. I am at a loss, i have looked on google for a resolution but with no prevail.

Error - Access Is Denied When Trying To Access A Shared Drive

I am getting an error "access is denied" when trying to access a shared drive on windows 7 machine that is not the specified "public" folder. How do i fix this?. I have done a fair bit of googling to no avail!

I have also made all he necessary network and sharing settings to allow connections. Other computers can access the "public" folder. But not the other shares that i set up. Although the other computer/s can 'see' them when viewing workgroup computers. Nb. All machines are on the same workgroup name.

Drive C: Access Denied

I am running windows 7 home prem 32-bit. We had a visitor who "knows computers" and this morning the wife can not do anything on her computer. Life is not fun at this time. I checked my computer and there is a administrator account along with mine. Hers does not have administrator account, only her account.

This seems to have something to do with the problem. I have tried everything in safe mode to running the "repair" on the win7 cd. Nothing works. Question: is there something that i can do other than bomb and pave?

Slave Drive Access Denied

"replacing invalid security id with default security id" on 65k+ files after first boot following a power outage. Now all i get is "access denied" when trying to explore slave drive. I installed windows 7 ultimate + visual studio 2008 on one hard disk and windows 7 ultimate + visual studio 2010 on a separate physical hard disk, just to avoid any potential issues that might arise from the coexistence of these products running under the same "logical" os.

It's very easy to choose which hard disk i want to boot from. At power-up i simply press f12 on my bios boot screen and select the hard disk to boot from. When the os boots, the "other" connected hard disk becomes the slave automatically. If i "dont" select which drive to boot from at the bios boot-screen the hard disk with vs2008 boots. So i guess you could say the hard disk with vs2008 is the "default" boot hard disk. I leave my computer on pretty much 24/7. Before the power outage, i had booted off the "non-default" or "slave" drive with vs2010. Then the thunderstorms knocked out my power. When i turned on the computer the next day, the computer began booting up off the "default" boot disk which contains vs2008. This is when i seen the screen being flooded with these messages. "Replacing invalid security id with default security id".

This went on for what seemed like over an hour. It must have did this to every existing file on the "slave" hard disk. I remember the numbers being as high as 65k+. So, my situation is this. The physical hard disk which was "not" acting as the os disk at the time of power outage is fine, but it seems its completely wiped out my ability to access anything on the physical hard disk that had been running as the "system" drive during the power outage.

When i select "start->computer->" it shows the slave drive with a drive letter and the drives description/name and it shows ntfs as the file system but it doesn't show the used/free space as all my other drive letters do on the "master" hard disk and when i double-click the drive to explore the contents it says, "location is not available", "h: is not accessible. ", "Access is denied". I am assuming all my data is still there but windows 7 won't let me see it.

System configuration: winndows 7 rtm, gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3l motherboard, intel pentium dual-core e6300 wolfdale @ 2. 8ghz, 4gb pc-1066 ddr2 patriot viper memory, 500 gb western digital hard disk, geforce 8800gt video card

Access Denied On Usb Drive After Removing Permissions

I accidentally removed all the access permissions from my external usb drive, after i had already taken full ownership of the drive, and now it shows me the drive icon and letter "e:", but states that access is denied when opening. Even the "security tab" is gone from the drives properties.

I was trying to change permissions to include inheritable ones, and i hit the wrong button to remove i think(i was stupidly moving too quickly through all the options, my fault), and after that i was no longer able to access the drive. I have thousands of files on this drive! Please help, anyone? The drive still shows up within windows explorer as e:, and disk management shows it as a healthy (primary partition).

Update: found the fix, thank you lord! I tried going into safe mode just in case, and it worked! Go into safe mode, and login with an administrator account. From there you will be able to right click on the drive and have the "security tab" working again, where you can take ownership and add permissions back!

Access Denied - Cannot Access The Outlook.ost File

We have installed windows 7 on a new machine. The user is a domain administrator and has full rights. When we try to open outlook, it says that it cannot access the outlook. Ost file and then freezes. We have moved the uac slider all the way to don't notify, granted explicit ownership to the c: users folder, given machine specific administrator rights to the user and the problem still persists.

When we log in as the hidden administrator though, everything works just fine for the same users exchange login. The user cannot even delete files on the network that belong to the user! Everything works fine when he logs in from another machine running xp. What are we missing here?

Cannot Access Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 dual-boot with vista ult 64-bit. Not a problem, . Both versions boot and run. However i have had installed 6 sata drives. Vista recognizes and access's all 6 in explorer and device manager. Windows 7 however recognizes all 6 in device manager but will only display 5 in the computer drive explorer view. There is no method to access the (actually 5th sata) drive. It cannot be accessed by any program i've tried so far. (Xp also recognized and accessed all 6 drives when i used it. )

I have a asus rampage formula motherboard, 4 wd 320 hd drives, 1 corsair sshd 6th in sata chain (windows 7 installed on it)
750 wd hd the 5th sata which is not accessible.

8 meg corsair ram 1000 watt ps asus 4850 video card. Running in non raid mode for the moment. I am not impressed with 7 especially since being screwed by the lack of the ult upgrade option

Unable To Access Main Portion Of Hard Drive

I am running xp media center on a dell inspiron e1505. I wanted to be able to boot from either xp or 7 so i created a 6gb partition and loaded windows 7. I did not allocate a letter for partition.
I am only able to boot into windows 7 and my hard-drive only shows 6 gb. I have a lot of programs and information on the other 105gb portion, which i cannot access. As the hd space is 6gb, it shows i have less than 32mb of available space. N

When i click on properties for the c: drive, volume and populate i can see the remainder of the drive space with no letter assigned. What can i do to access this portion, and boot from xp again.

Unable To Access Hard Drive Because Of Password Protection

Hard drive with "windows 7" from my laptop not showing up in my other xp machine. I connect the sata hard drive through a sata usb cable. My toshiba laptop has windows 7 in it with finger printing password. After scanning my finger or entering bios password my hard disk unlocks and i can use my laptop. Now that laptop is dead because if its motherboard. The hard disk is working fine. I purchased sata usb cable and attached the toshiba hard disk to my other system which has xp through the usb port. It shows that a new hardware is installed and is ready to use but it doesn't show up in my computer or disk management.

I guess i have to unlock (by using bios password) it first and then only will be able to use it but i don't see the hard disk anywhere then how would i enter the password? I don't think it's a cable problem because the hard drive is making sound like it is working and in the xp machine it shows that the hard drive is installed and ready to use. I really need to extract the data from my toshiba hard drive otherwise i am doomed.

Sata Hard Drive To Usb Adaptor Cannot Access

I cannot get my windows 7 x64 laptop to access my sata hard drive connected via a usb adaptor. Upon connecting for the first time or after you have uninstalled the usb mass storage device, it successfully installs the drivers. But you cannot see the drive listed in "my computer" nor access it. If you go to disk management the drive is acknowledged but offline. I had no problem accessing an ide drive connected via a usb adapter that was made by the same manufacturer that makes the sata to usb i am using. I have read/wrote to this sata drive and usb adaptor plugged in several other machines using vista and xp. My sata to usb adaptor:

Access To The Directory Is Denied

Why can't the admin be the admin? In windows 7, i sometimes attempt to install software. That is a basic function of an os, which i think i should be entitled to do. However, with some programs, the installer gets denied access because "access to the directory is denied". I try to take away the read-only status on my folders, but no, access is denied. It says my administrator should do so.

But, i am the administrator. Why can't i be the administrator of my own pc? Why is it not up to me if the folder should be protected or not?

Is there a way to get rid of this? Because disabling uac doesn't help, and when it is off my security center nags about it day in and day out. I just want to install sandbox2 for crysis for god's sake.

Access To Path Denied

An accounting program, agexpert analyst, running on windows 7 home premium 64 bit, frequently crashes with the error reported by the program "access to the path 'c:analystfinance.xml' is denied". The finance.xml file is a temporary file created by the analyst software in the program folder and usually is deleted when the program is exited.

Tech support for the software says that this is a windows problem. The error did not occur with windows vista home premium 64 bit.

The error report is quite extensive and as follows.

Analyst at aef. Prxfinance. Write() at aef. Prxfinance. Settext(string , string lbltext47, string inventorypastyear3) at aef. E9. A(string arbeglabel) at aef. E9. E(string arbeglabel) at a. (Object , startupeventargs ) at microsoft. Visualbasic. Pplicationservices. Windowsformsapplicationbase.

I have set permissions for the analyst folder so that advanced security settings are full control for authenticated users, users, administrators and system. The error continues to happen.

I do note that a second permission entry exists for users, that only shows read & execute permission. It can be edited for full control, but when changes are applied, the lower permission continues to exist.

Access To The Path Denied

On a server-client application, the server is on a windows 7 professional 64 bit the firewalls are off and the program has:

    Ownership claimed
Shared the folder, subfolders & files
    Granted everyone permission full control
    Mapped network drive

The client, windows 7 home premium 64 bit, with the firewalls off.

The client upon completion of the questionnaire and print/preview gets an error message: generate_pdf: access to the path 'c:program files (x86)afs files generate pdf" is denied.
Attempting to access (on the client) forms created on the server get the same error message.

Getting Folder Access Denied

I am trying to copy files from my old xp pro laptop to my new windows 7 desktop. I've shared the drive from my old laptop on my home network. I can see the folders and files i want to copy. I started to copy a folder and it copied 2 files then gave me a folder access denied message. The files that copied witn no problem were an excel 2003 spread sheet and a word 2003 document. The file that won't copy is a .zip file. I am the only user on both the xp pro and the windows 7 server. I just want to copy all the documents i have from the old laptop to my new computer. Sounds pretty straight forward. Any ideas on how to do this simple task?

Access Denied On Installing Port

I am currently running windows 7 ultimate n 32 bit, and i am trying to install port io32, however when trying to install, it fails and says access denied. I have only one profile, and it of course has administrator abilities. I even tried manually placing the .dll and .sys files (.sys in win32/drivers, and .dll in win32), still no luck. I've searched and searched with no real answers. I also changed ownerships of all files, even the entire c drive, as well as changed permissions to any profile that showed up in the security tab. Please help, it's been a nightmare. Xp was simple.

Recycle Bin Access Denied

I have created an "e" partition on my new win 7 computer. Everything is fine until i try to delete any file from this partition. Whenever i delete a file from here, i get the following message:

Recycle bin access denied
[Filename] can't be moved to the recycle bin.
Do you want to permanently delete it?

I can delete the item permanently, but i would rather use the recycle bin. This does not occur anywhere else but in the "e" partition. I have no problem deleting to the recycle bin or emptying it. Can anyone suggest a fix?

Error Code 5 - Access Denied

I just installed windows 7 on a computer that has all new hardware that meets and exceed requirements for windows 7.

I have 2 drives. Drive 1 is 500gb allocated for c:

Drive 2 is 1 tb partitioned for d: & e: at 500gb each (roughly)

I installed windows 7 on c:. I have files and documents on d: & e: from my old windows 7 rc installation, that remained untouched during this new installation.

When i try to install a program from an installation file located on drive d: i get an error "windows was unable to create the directory c:usersusernameappdatalocalempemp_filename. Error 5: access denied

I can copy any of the installation files from d: and paste them into a folder on c: and they work just fine. So it appears to be a permissions issue. But i have given total rights and ownership to my username on all drives c:, d:, & e:, and all files/folder within, and i am the administrator of the machine.
