Unable To Install Programs Due To Not Being Computer Administrator

Why am i unable to install programs due to 'not being the computer administrator' when i am the administrator? The last couple of times i have tried to install programs, such as adobe reader, a message comes up saying i do not have permission to install and must re-try when logged on as the administrator. But i have only the one user account on the computer and it says i am the administrator. I have tried granting permission to my user account (the same one is listed separately, once as administrator and again as what i have called it) to act as administrator but it said i am not allowed to do this.

Office Updates Will Not Install - Cannot Download Due To Regulation

Win 7 ultimate 64 bit. Office 2007 32 bit. All eight updates for office 2007 failed. The eight windows 7 updates installed fine. The failed updates give an error code 646. The windowsupdate. Log shows "can not download due to regulation". Also shows "update f4ede0d0-1dc7-488f-9290-1542fb99b30f is "priority" regulated and can not download. Sequence 3159 vs accept rate 1430. "

Office diagnostics shows no errors or problems with office installation. A laptop with same os and office installed the updates just fine, but it fails on my main desktop machine. Any suggestions?

Administrator Privilege And Installing Programs Issues

I'm new to windows 7 and trying to install programs to get my pc working for me again. However, after installing a program with no issues what-so-ever, when i come to run the program windows refuses, saying i must have adim privilege when running the program for the first time. I should mention that i am using the admin account to do this. I have tried right click and select run as administrator, and the same message appears. I am not given any opportunity to enter the password. I am now at my wits end and have done everything i can think of and can find no more relevant info on the help page.
Please give me some advice.

Cannot Use Administrator Rights To Install Software

I upgraded to windows 7 from vista 64. I had the following issue in vista. One of the dlls (16 bit?) Would not load and every time i restarted the laptop (sony vaio), it would not load and gave me a reminder. I have the same issue with windows 7 and the following. I can not load any software, getting the message that i do not have access to keys (in the case of itunes). It will not accept windows updates. I have a freeagent drive and it will not allow it to back up in any form. I attempted to do a 'burn down' installation of windows 7, to clean out any prior programs or data and it will not let me initiate any action from the windows 7 disk at all.

After Win7 Install Should I Install Programs Then Backed Up Files ?

After windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up files or the backed up files then the programs. Windows 7 complete install. Should i install the programs then the backed up  files or the backed up files then the programs. I saw where microsoft recommended installing the backed up files first then the programs so the programs know where the files are located.

I would think installing the programs first would be better to minimize defragmentation. Os then programs, then files.

Install Before Computer Upgrade

I'm about to upgrade an older computer to windows 7. I've got a copy that i'd put on my home machine to test, now will be adding memory and windows 7 to my studio computer.

I've got a project that sorely needs the extra memory, which will require the 64bit os. My memory should be here before my 2nd copy of windows 7. So the question is, can i install from the disk i have, and activate with the new disk and serial number when it shows up?

I don't remember when in the install process it asks for the number.

If that would work, could i go ahead and start the process before the memory even gets here? I know if you change too much, windows thinks it's a new machine. But don't know how much of that it will let you get away with before it calls the feds.

Where Do I Install My Programs To?

I am building a simple installer for some software that i want to install on some of the computers here at work. I'm using a very simple open source installation program, and it wants me to set the default installation directory where the software i have written should be installed. The computers at work are a mix of windows xp, vista and soon windows 7 computers. I have been installing to c:program files before, and that's been working fine.

But since vista came out, its been a bit unpredictable. I understand there is something to do with 'virtualization' of folders, which i don't really understand, and i also believe that this has all changed again with windows 7.

Is there some 'best practice' guide for where to install programs to?  The users who will be installing the software are just regular computer users (ie. Not administrators) and therefore i need a solution that works on all platforms and is safe and won't create security issues.

Cant Install Any New Programs

For some reason every time i go to install something new, ie quick time, java or itune, my computer is telling me i cant install something until i complete the installation currently in progress. The thing is, i have no idea what is in progress, and have had this problem for almost a month. I*ve restarted my computer and even done system restores to try and clear it up. I also cannot uninstall programs. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to pinpoint exactly where or what the installation may be. Or if there is something i can do to cancel all current installations.

Win 7 Freezes Due To Nvidia

Running windows 7 64-bit home premium, after upgrade from vista 64-bit. (The upgrade was from the manufacturer, asus. )Nvidia graphics card geforce gt 220, driver version 196. 21. The system has started crashing frequently. It freezes. We cannot connect this with any particular application or activity. Lso, a flag icon is now appearing in the system tray. When i mouse over it, i see "solve pc issues:  4 messages". I clicked it and it listed the 4 messages, one of which was, "address a problem with nvidia graphics driver. "

So i click this and i see a window in which it says, "opening solution . "  This lasts for a while but eventually it says, "this solution could not be downloaded. "  I am on the internet so there shouldn't be a problem with downloading anything. Anyway, on the same window i see where i can click, "view all problems this applies to. "  So i click that, and i see a list of some, but not nearly all, of our recent crashes. So there is some connection between nvidia and our crashes, but i can't get any further with this. Do you know what is going on?

However now when i use it it's a different story. When i right click the installation item there is nothing.

Can I Clean Install And Keep Programs?

I currently have vista 32 bit - want to upgrade to windows 7 because of damage that was left behind from a virus - my whole system is screwy. And, yes i have tried everything in the forums trying to fix it. I want to keep my office 2007 ultimate, but do not have a disk - bought it digitally. I have the key though. Is there a way for me to do a clean install of both without having the office disk? Shouldn't i have access to a digital file through my digital locker? It has been several years since i purchased the office ultimate.

Unable To Install Any Programs

Just finished a clean install of windows 7 this afternoon ( upgrading from xp ). Running a home build system : gigabyte ga-8penxp mobo, 2gb ram, core2duo 6600, nvidia 8800gts graphics.

Install went cleanly no errors or hiccups. Problem is i can't install anything. Tried to download an install avg and avast av products, both installers failed. Itunes installer just does nothing. However, i have successfully installed office xp pro and stanza ebook reader.

Turned off uac - no difference.

Ideas appreciated. It's driving me nuts

Random Bsod Crashes Due To Driver_power_state_failure

Random bsod crashes due to driver_power_state_failure when pc left alone or in sleep. I have a dell studio xps8000, core i7-860, 8gb ram, nvidia gt220, win7 home premium 64-bit oem which, more or less since new, randomly crashes about once a week if i leave it alone and powered up for several hours or put in standby first. When this happens the pc is either fully shut down (& i then boot selecting 'boot windows normally' option) or has rebooted to login screen automatically.

According to recovery boot it is a bsod, and each minidump file looks like nearly identical to this, parameter 1 always 0x00000003:

Backup Fails Due To Corrupt C: Drive

Recently backup failed claiming a corrupted c: drive prevented some user files from being copied. On startup disc check is run automatically and reports a fault due to recently installed/upgraded software application and states that the solution is to restore to an earlier point. This fails on a series of restore points citing corrupt c: as the problem. (Some loop huh!)Regcure has been run and sped things up (a lot!) But not resolved the issue.

Windows 7 family premium is being run as an upgrade from the originally installed vista. Ny ideas please? I really don't want to reboot and start again if i can help it, especially as its an upgrade not original installation. (Most of me wants to go back to xp if i must stay on windows!).

Upgrade Error Due To Mcafee Firewall

I need some recommendations about how to upgrade my dell desktop running windows vista business when i keep getting an error that mcafee firewall plus is installed despite this program having been removed over 2 years ago?

Original dell system shipped with xp and mcafee pre-installed in 2006 however i upgraded to vista immediately through dells' upgrade program. Later after the my subscription to mcafee expired i removed the program (i thought) and replaced it first with norman and now norton internet security 2009.

After repeated system searches and use of the mcafee ' technical assistant there are no 'visible' folders or files associated with mcafee however i cannot run a simple upgrade to windows 7 upgrade because of this issue.

Run Install Win98 Programs

I have a windows xp machine, a vista business machine, and a windows 7 hp machine. I have several windows 98 programs that work perfectly for my needs and do not want to upgrade or repurchase newer versions (mathematica, autocad lt 98, matlab, adobe illustrator 8, etc. ). These all work perfectly on my xp machine. If i upgrade my vista and 7 hp machines to windows 7 professional, with virtual pc and xp mode, can i install (my vista and 7 hp machines will not acknowledge or read the installation cd's for these programs) and run these programs? This is my only reason for upgrading to 7 professional on these machines.

Unable To Install Programs On Win 7

I recently created a new 50 gig partition on my vista machine and install windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. The installation went fine and i installed a few programs. After one of the reboots i am not getting an error that i need to run chkdsk or sfc. I ran chkdsk /f 3 times and it removed many errors but they are the same each time. I tried to run sfc /scannow as the administrator but it only gets to 4% then stops. It is giving me an error about the temp folder being invalid or unable to write to it. Both tmp and temp point to a valid folder in the path.

Any ideas?

Access By Users To Install Programs

I installed office 2010 as administrator, and now the programs do not show 'default-program' list for the other users (in the start menu). I can give them access to the programs, but cannot use them as 'default applications' for the associated file types, because they do not appear on the users' program lists. So the users can only open a .doc file by opening word and then finding the file in the directory. This is particularly annoying when trying to open an attachment to an email that is not saved to the pc
