Laptop Keyboard Not Working

I had the rc version of windows working fine on my asus aspire 5670 laptop for several months. Then about 2 weeks age, i installed a couple of windows updates and the laptop keyboard stopped working. No red bangs in deice manager, updating driver had no effect. Keyboard works fine in bios as well as in safe mode. Restore points had no effect. Flashed the bios, still nothing. Since windows 7 was released last week, i snagged a copy and did a clean install (formatting the system drive in advance) assuming that this would fix the problem - it did not! I had to use the on screen keyboard to enter  the product key ;).

Laptop Keyboard Stopped Working

Windows 7 just installed on new hd. Loaded on all my sw, shut down, then booted up again. Now the keyboard stopped working! Some windows updates took place in the background so wondering if it's this? I tried system restore but the keyboard only works if i take the machine right back to the out-of-box point - not great as i dont really enjoy loading on all my sw again and again just to use my computer ;o). Also tried uninstalling keyboard driver in system properties and rebooting. Windows installs the drivers again on startup but keyboard still doesn't work!

Cannot Lock Laptop Using Win+l Key Through Keyboard

I have an acer laptop running windows 7 ultimate.connected to this laptop is usb splitter to connect external keyboard and mouse for easy desktop use. Within the past 2-3 weeks, i can no longer lock the laptop using win+l through the laptop keyboard, but can using the usb keyboard. It's the oddest thing. I've unplugged the keyboard, waited for the machine to signal it has been disconnected, and still failed. Also tried rebooting with no luck. Anyone ever heard or seen of anything like this before?

Laptop Keyboard Issue - Key Sticks Randomly

I'm running windows 7 pro 64 bit on a toshiba laptop. Basically it started with the 0 key not working properly, it would take two or three presses to make a 0 come up on the screen. I took it off the computer and cleaned all the hair and dust out and now the 0 key will randomly "sticks" itself. There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it underneath the key, it's not physically stuck at all, it's entirely digital.

It's almost always stuck when i turn on the computer, so my sign in password gets instantly filled up. If you tap the 0 key it stops but will randomly start again in the middle of things. In fact it's gone twice so far as i'm writing this. I have cleaned and checked the area under the key many times, it also sticks even when the key is not even on the computer and you don't have to be touching the computer at all for it to happen. Sometimes i'll come in to the room and hear constant beeping as it's 0ing away when no one's even near it.

It also does this quite frequently, making it a major annoyance. I've done some searching but the typical answer to similar questions is "clean under the key" or "turn of sticky keys" neither of which is the solution here. Is it possible for it to be some sort of software problem or is it definitely hardware?  Am i at the point of needing to take the computer in for repair? I'd really rather avoid this option since it's my main computer at the moment and it's also no longer under warranty. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Issue: Sony Vaio Laptop Keyboard And Touchpad Stopped Working

I have a sony vaio vgn-nw270f that came with windows 7 already installed. After booting up, the touchpad and keyboard stopped working. The keyboard works in the bios but only then. I can use the pointer with a usb mouse and type using the on-screen keyboard but that's about it. Everything else works normally. I spoke with sony tech support and they recommended i restore my machine to it's original factory state but i would definitely rather not do that.

Upgrade On New Laptop

I upgraded my hp laptop from vista to windows 7 professional 32-bit and now 6 weeks later my laptop has died. I am going to buy a vaio eb that comes with windows 7 home premium 64-bit but i need windows 7 professional 64-bit. Since i still have the original 2 upgrade discs, can i use the original 64-bit windows 7 professional upgrade disc to upgrade from windows 7 home premium 64-bit to professional on the new laptop?  Will there be any problem with the activation code after i upgrade the new laptop?  Will i lose everything that is already installed on the new laptop if i do upgrade?

I have been using live one care for the past one & half years, since the one care program was discontinued, i have shifted to using live essentials. My live essentials is always updated and its  status is in green. Today i ran an online scan with win.live one care and it reported a severe threat which it was not able to remove. Laptop Boots Up On Its Own

I've recently bought a dell inspiron laptop with windows 7. I noticed that the battery seemed to be discharging over night so i checked event viewer and it seems that the laptop is booting itself up for between 10 and 20 minutes most (but not all) nights. I confirmed this one night by leaving it next to my bed! It came on at about 1215 am. I have checked all the scheduled tasks and none are set to "wake the computer to run this task". I have mcafee security centre running so i don't think i have a virus or a trojan or anything like that. Any idea what is causing this and how i can stop it, short of removing the battery!

Laptop Was Stolen

1 month old laptop with windows 7 was stolen, it was a gateway laptop. I have filed a police report and proof of purchase with gateway. However, i do not know my windows 7 key of the top of my head because it was on the bottom of the laptop, the original gateway box does not have this information either and i contacted gateway and they said they cannot give me the key because "dispatching of windows 7 os is done by mentor media. I recommend you contact microsoft".

The reason im asking is, i am going to build a new computer and i thought instead of paying for windows 7 again why not use the copy i already payed for when i bought the laptop? Is this possible? I put my gateway "recovery dvd's" in my current desktop and i got to the screen where it asks language and the notice where it says "if you press continue everything will be restored to original factory settings", if i put those recovery dvd's in the computer i build will they install windows 7 on my new computer? Is there somehow a way to transfer over the key to the new machine?

In addition i have a broken dell laptop out of warranty, too expensive to fix, which has a windows vista key on the bottom, can i make use of that somehow?

Laptop Will Not Power Up

Have been given a toshiba protege r400 mod no:ppr40a-01000l to look at for a friend who is very ill and the machine just will not switch on. Have tested the adaptor and battery voltage and there is plenty. Now i don't have much experience with laptops as such and so cannot rule the psu as the culprit. When plugged in the blue power light is on and the small yellow battery indicator flickers at random speeds - but quite fast. Now i have the maintenance manual for it and i can probably get the lcd mask off to look at the power witch itself. But before i do i would like some opinions on the most likely cause and would prefer to avoid this if at all possible.

X6 Keyboard Issue

Recently purchased above keyboard and have noticed after a coule of weeks the #7 key at top of keyboard appears to stick down. Ie hold #7 key down and will repeat at a much faster rate than the other keys, almost 3-4 times as fast. If the plastic key is removed and i use a pen to hit the sensor it works correctly. Do you think it needs to be returned under warranty or is there something which i can do? I thought the key itself might be holding the plastic cover on teh sensor down longer than normal, but its position is consistent with all the other keys. I have checked for dirt etc under keys but all clear.

Changing Keyboard

I have a laptop with a japanese keyboard. I am running an english os. I have gone to control panel. I clicked the change keyboard. I added languages so that i have both english and japanese and both languages keyboard options installed. The ime too. When i press alt and shift, the language bar does change between en and jp. The language bar also indicates that the keyboard has changed too.

However, even when the language bar says the language is japanese and that the keyboard is japanese, the pc still types as if configured for an english keyboard. I have also tried typing with the default input language set as japanese, and then tried it set as english.

Does anyone know why, despite following all the steps; despite having text services and input languages indicating that under installed services that english and japanese input devices have been added (and yes, i pressed apply); and despite having a language bar that does switch between english and japanese when alt+shift is pressed, that nothing changes and the key board still behaves as an english (us) keyboard?

Brazilian Keyboard

I just received a new computer with windows 7, and i'm trying to get a brazilian keyboard to work with it. My old computer was xp, and this same keyboard worked fine. I set up a different language for when i was using this keyboard, and it would let me use all the keys (i don't remember what was the keyboard layout that i used).

When i try and set it up with windows 7, however, there is no keyboard layout that matches my layout. The abnt and abnt2 options look the same, and both are missing two keys. My keyboard has the to the left of the z, and the / to the right of the ;. Is there some error with how windows 7 has set up one of these keyboards?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Using Keyboard In Win 7

I'm not visually impaired, but i prefer to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I am finding win7 to be very cumbersome to use with the keyboard. I know there are tons of new logo key combinations-i think i've tried them all-but it is still very difficult for me to move around explorer using the keyboard. Seems like everything takes 2 or 3 more keystrokes than it did when i used xp. How are other "keyboarders" or even visually impaired users coping with win 7? Any ideas on working more efficiently with the keyboard?

The @ Key On Keyboard

I have just bought and started using a netbook. I've got windows 7 running and have installed office 2007 professional. The keyboard layout is qwerty. When i use the number 2 key to add the @ symbol to what i am writing, i get speech-marks (") and visa versa with the speech-marks key i get an @.
The number 3 key give a pound (£) symbol instead of the hash. I have been to the control panel to check the region and the keyboard settings, but it all looks normal. Is there a way of changing these keys to they way they are printed on the keyboard?

No Keyboard Input Available

There is a user who started having problems this morning. The machine is 1 week old, loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The keyboard is dead, the only thing i'm able to do is turn the f-lock on and off nothing else responds. I tried plugging in another usb keyboard and then a ps-2 keyboard and neither work. When i was finally able to use the on screen keyboard to login i found in device manager there was an error 19 for the keyboard saying that driver information in the registry had become corrupt so the device couldn't be started.

So i look that up and find that deleting the upperfilter in the registry was suggested. So i deleted the upperfilter and rebooted and still no keyboard. I can use the keyboard in the bios and to select safe mode or normal mode but once windows starts the keyboard is dead. I've also noticed that everytime i reboot along with the usb keyboard and mouse a ps-2 keyboard and mouse is installed in the device manager with exclamation marks. I've restored to earlier times when everything worked and still no keyboard. Any ideas?

Desktop Pc Thinks It Is A Laptop

I built two identical desktop pcs and with windows 7 home premium. Both are plugged into the same ups and i have not installed the ups software in either one. One of the two keeps shutting down and when i turn it back on i get a message that it shutdown because the battery was low. Also this one has a battery indicator in the tray at the bottom of the screen. The other machine does not have the shutdown issue or the battery symbol in the tray. I have tried various settings in the power management but cannot convince this thing it is a desktop and has no battery.

Laptop Randomly Hibernates

i'm new to this site and have been experiencing my laptop hibernating randomly the past few days while i am using it. I could be working on anything in my computer, like browsing the web, checking email, etc. , And bam! Hibernates. I know it's not a virus because i have mcafee and windows defender both active and they scan my laptop bi-weekly.

I've asked a few friends at school, and they've given a few possible suggestions; the memory that is being used, or the time i'm using it, (after startup), but i've came to the assumption that it could be both. By both, i mean that once the processor passes a certain memory usage, and a certain time after then, is where the problem could jump from. Since i've thought of that solution, i've tried using less programs together, (e.g. Only the browser or only windows live mail), and as i've been using this solution, it has rarely hibernated w/o notice.

Remove User From Laptop

How do i remove a user from my laptop? Changing user folder names and author names i was one of six individuals that received laptops as a gift from my church. My problem is that while my computer shows my name as owner, it shows another one of the other individuals as user. For example, userkarensara lee and if my name is karen, why is the other person's name showing on my computer. It will also show the other person's name as the author on my documents, or last modified by and then the other person's name. How do i fix this?

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).
