Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transfer some information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d: dell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what? Also, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, and maxtor (where i had the easy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?

Lost Disk Space

So i was trying to help my friend delete his old windows 7 beta partition on his new copy of win 7. So far, using disk management, he has formatted it, defragged it with the built in windows defragger, and deleted the partition. At that point it still wouldn't let him extend his main drive to include this newly free space. So he right clicked the free space and deleted it. Instead of changing it too unallocated space like it expected it to, it just vanished completely! And now thanks to me, my friend is missing some 80gb.

Then, for some reason it separated 112gb of "free space" from his new install. So i extended the drive and put the 112 gb back into his new install. And now i'm stuck.

How To Use Unallocated Disk Space?

I shrunk my c: by 40 gb and got this unallocated space. Now when i try to create a new volume out of this space, i get the message " the operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s). If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the disk(s) (except the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?" On searching i found that windows 7 home premium supports a max of 4 volumes. This is my disk management image: http://goo. Gl/r4nd what do i do to make it usable?

Hard Disk Space Unusable

I am using windows 7 32 bit edition on dell inspiron 1545. The specifications are
Intel core 2 duo
2 gb ram
250 gb hard disk

There is only one drive ( c drive ) in the partition. Only 232. 77 gb is allocated out of 250 gb. The problem is that 118 mb is unallocated. It was the oem's partition but i formatted it because i didnot knew what it was for. The left over 118 mb cannot be merged with 232. 77 gb. It only shows the option of creating new drive. On the other hand c drive does not show the option of extend volume. How can i use the 118 mb ? Do i have to format ?

Low Disk Space On Recovery (d) Drive

I just switched my dell studio 15 from windows vista to windows 7. Once i got everything set up, i started receiving an error message that reads "low disk space on recovery drive". I have already gone and changed the program files to default to the c drive by going in through the registry (?) But am not sure what else i can do. I have tried uninstalling programs, but it tells me that i don't have enough disk space to do so. I only have the following folders in my recovery partition: dell, perflogs, program files, sources, tools, users, windows. Any suggestions of what i should do?

Easy Transfer Error Enough Disk Space Available

I recently upgraded my xp to windows 7 and during the process created a windows easy transfer file. The file created without any trouble and i saved it to an external hard drive. When i went to reload it back, after installing windows 7, i got an error - isn't enough disk space available to transfer files and settings. My hard drive is currently in two partitions - c: (20gb) which contains my operating system and d: (200+gb). The c: drive is full and when i go to advanced in the windows easy transfer. It looks like it is trying to transfer data there. I am not sure what to do next.

Enough Free Disk Space Issue Using Easy Transfer

Why does easy transfer say i don't have enough disk space when i'm trying to transfer 141gb to a hard drive with 585gb of available space? I just purchased an hp pavilion 6347c with windows 7 home premium. I'm trying to transfer data from my old computer with windows xp to the new machine.

Easy transfer works to the point where the actual transfer should be made, at which point i get an error message saying there is not enough disk space. I've called hp tech support, and they told me i'd have to pay for support as this is a "third party" issue.

Full D Recovery Drive Disk Space Warning

I'm having a somewhat similar problem as a previous poster but. Have a newer computer and i upgraded from vista home premium to w7 home premium . My backup d drive is full . I guess the backup has not removed former backups . Now processing is slower and i worried about a total freeze. I used the disk manager and tried to add space onto my d from c but only ended up with an unallocated partition of 20g's .couldn't figure out how to add to d.

In the previous solution " press a special key combination when the computer starts, you can use the recovery partition to restore the computer to the way it was when it was new. " Would that remove windows 7(don't want to do that" or. Do i have to remove the partitions letters for the d? Would that just make it one big c drive? . Would that effect computers performance? How can i get that unallocated partition back to c . Or to d? Sorry for being so wordy but i could sure use some help.

Live Mail Disk Space Recovery Error

I use wlm to read alt. Binaries newsgroups. I frequently delete message bodies. I'm convinced there is a bug in wlm unless somebody can help me. When i go to close wlm, it asks if i want to recover unused disk space. I assume this is like the old oe "compact" feature. I say "yes" and wlm immediately tells me it is in use by another program. This isn't true as it is the only program running. Since alt. Binaries are huge, i can't decrease the size of the database, and when it approaches 2 gb, wlm becomes totally unresponsive and i have to resubscribe and re-download every again, terrible wast ot time. Any experts out there who can help?

When Windows Old Updates Should Be Removed To Keep Disk Space Clean ?

How to deal with so many windows updates? I don't keep track in detail, but it is very noticeable that microsoft updates come almost every day, and they downgrade the computer performance, not to mention the space they take. Last night the machine rebooted because of some 37 important updates. This morning it says it still has 2 important and 13 optional. I know i can change my download and apply settings to diminish the impact to performance, but as far as space, is there a recommendation for when old updates should be removed to keep disk space clean?

Install Problem With Low Disk Space On Target Drive

I have tried to install an add on to a game segplay and eventually get a message "not enough disk space on target drive. I am thinking some incompatibility between segplay games and vista home premium. Anyone have a suggestion?

Easy Transfer Wizard Error - There Isn't Enough Disk Space Available

Easy transfer wizard error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. The transfer file size is 40gb and i have a c: drive that says it has 280gb free and a d: drive that has 298gb free. I did a successful save of the easy transfer files to an external hard drive. Previously this computer was running vista for over 1 year with no problems.

After doing a custom install (i wanted to start with a clean install) of win7, everything is working. I installed windows/office updates and all of my other program files. When i run transfer wizard, it locates the "old computer" transfer file and reads it ok, showing the users and a transfer file size of 40. 1gb. When i click transfer button, i get the error: there isn't enough disk space available to transfer your files and settings. However, i have over 280gb free on my c: drive.

What disk is it looking at and what do i need to do to get around this. If i cannot get my files/settings back, i am going to be a very unhappy customer.

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Excessive Space Being Taken Up On C: Drive

(b) drive not showing up after windows 7 64 bit install. Drive (c) also has less than half its capacity available after a clean install. I just "custom" installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit after running windows vista ultimate 32 bit. I followed all the defaults for the "custom" install and didnt do anything fancy, pretty much just clicked "next". Everything booted up fine but now when i go to my computer folder, only one of my internal hard drives is showing up (c). It is also showing my external hardrive - but not my second internal hard drive (b). Also, (c) has only 112 gb free of 298 gb after a clean install of windows 7. I know windows 7 cant be that big.
So:
(1) cant find second internal hardrive (b)
(2) excessive space being taken up on (c)
What gives?

There Is Not Enough Space Available To Complete This Operation

I install windows 7 upgrading from windows xp. My total hard disk is 500gb. But after installing windows 7 it shows 150gb disk space is unallocated. I tried in disk management i.e right clicking on "150gb unallocated disk" then new simple volume. Then format then next-next then finish and it shows error "there is not enough space available to complete this operation". N haa, i have done system restore in windows xp. Since pc gone slow & with sum problems.

But it doesn't work. Therefore, i installed windows 7 which retain pc faster. I think system restore occupy that 150gb disk space. So it's showing unallocated. How to retain back my total 500gb back. Give me proper solution.

Msn Live Space

I have a problem with the msn live space, first of all does anyone know of a way to completely close it? Secondly ive turned everything to show to just me in the privacy section yet random people are still able to see which people have been added to my network, if i remove them from my network they are also removed from my contact list too which seems stupid, is there a way to have them on my contact lost but not show in my network on my profile, this is starting to drive me crazy, any help would be greatly received.

Win 7 Backup Insufficient Space

I recently installed windows 7 on my desktop. When i try to do a back up i get an error message (after a short time and maybe 40% of the back up being complete) saying that there is insufficient space in the specified back up destination. The back up is going to a 500gb external hard drive with about 370gb of free space on it and the back up is apparently 79gb, so i do not see how there cannot be enough space. Am i just doing something really basic wrong or is this a problem anyone else has had with windows 7 back up ?

Easy Transfer & Disc Space

I just upgraded to windows 7 professional from vista home edition and was required to do a custom installation. Before installing, i moved the contents of the c drive to an external drive using windows easy transfer, as microsoft recommended. Now when i try to use easy transfer to move files back to the c drive, i get an error message that reads: " "there isn't enough  disc space available to transfer your files and settings. "

Easy transfer has 16. 3 gb to move, and the c drive reports having  203 gb available. The f drive has 231 gb available, and the d: recovery has 3. 05 gb available (out of 14. 6 gb). What's the problem with easy  transfer's moving these files back to c? More importantly, what's the solution?

Backup - Poor Space Management

I have a 500 gb hard drive that i don't do anything with except let windows use it for a back. I choose the standard backup settings and i woke up this morning only to find out the hard drive has 5 mb left. It says that the break down of the disk is:

Data file backup - 358. 15
System image - 101. 04 gb
Other files - 6 gb
Free space 5 mb
Total 465. 64

I currently let windows manage the space used for backup (guess i shouldn't). The point i want to make is that my c: is only 85 gb. The backup has worked for over 5 months and i haven't made any changes (downloading huge files). The only option this software gives me is to delete the whole backup from 9/14/09 to today. Why can't it just remove a month or two it's self? Why do i have to delete the entire history? Shouldn't the software be smart enough to do that?

Win 7 Install Taking Up To Much Space

I've just installed windows 7 ultimate 32bit and when i went into computers to check my hard drive usage it my c drive was around 180 gig / 290 gig. I haven't installed any of my backup yet as well and im pretty sure it doesn't take up around 100 gigs for windows 7. One more thing i had minor problem installing windows 7 my setup kept restarting so i "think" i installed windows 7 multiple times. If i did install it multiple times how do i delete the other window 7 files?

Cannot Manage Backup Space On More Than 1 Drive At A Time

Cannot manage backup space on more than 1 drive at a time; can view backups on more than 1 drive at a time. I make image and regular backups to 2 different usb drives - because you do not know when a backup drive will fail. Win7 backup and restore gui allows one to view backups on multiple drives at same time via "select another backup to restore files from".

Manage space only allows to manage space on the currently configured backup drive. Further - if modifying the configuration to select a different drive - you are forced to start a backup before you can manage space on that drive. - "Save settings and run backup" there may be little space on the drive - so i will have to either cancel the backup after started or configure a useless  small backup so that i can then manage space on the drive.

Hard Drive Space Usage Under Win7

I just upgraded to win7 (64 bit). My c drive (intel ssd) has ~75 gb space. When i click on "computer, " it says that the total free space is 25gb (i.e 75gb is used up). But the space occupied by all files/folders adds up to only ~24 gb (~21 gb of this is occupied by "windows" and "windows. Old" folders, ~2. 4 gb by "program files" and "program files (x86)", and very little by other folders/files).

How can i find out what is taking up the rest of the space? I have emptied the recycle bin and have done disk cleanup. In addition, in the advanced settings list, i made sure that "show hidden files, folders and drives" is selected. I also unchecked "hide protected operating system files. ".

External Hard Drive Space Discrepancy

I have a 500gb western digital external hard drive which shows i actually have a total of 465gb (i understand this). Currently it says i have 277 gb free but the files i have saved on there amount to no more then 100gb, so shouldn't it have 365gb available. Also about once a month it says there is not enough room to complete a back up even though on my c drive it shows i only have about 135gb of stuff, so i have to delete my previous back ups and start again, why is this  .

Not Enough Disc Space To Temporarily Store Files

When starting the upgrade process from vista to 7 home premium and 27 gb free on hard drive i'm told that there isn't enough free space to temporarily store windows files. I delete another 10 gb- same message. Clear it out up to 45, then 50 gb of free space (its only a 100 gb drive) same message. Finally end up deleting everything i'm allowed to, up to 62 gb free space now- same message. Shut down, reboot, same message. My itunes is gone- everything is off it- same message.
