Monitor Shuts Off

My computer monitor keeps shutting off on me. I have a dell inspiron b130 (i know it is kinda old) but i don't think its a hardware issue. It has started happening since i installed windows 7. At first i thought it was because my original product key didn't work, but i did the automated phone activation, and validated on the website, but it still shuts off. If i don't use my computer for awhile, it may stay on for a good 20 mins or so, but once it shuts off once, the time it stays on gets less and less. But, i just close the lid and open it back up and it works again. Any ideas as to what is going on?!?

Monitor Shuts Off But Computer Remains On

Not sure if this is under the right topic, sorry. Well, the monitor will just shut off after booting up the pc. When i bootup in safe mode, the problem still occurs, although it took a longer time for it to turn off. Everything is still running though. This just started happening today. Right now, it seems to be okay, though it took a while before i was able to start it up normally. Several times before, when i tried to boot up, it refused to turn on. The graphics card fan would be on at its highest speed but won't become quiet again, as its supposed to. I had to turn off the main power at the back and wait awhile before i could start it up.

Could it be graphics related? Right now, using speedfan it says my gpu is at 57 c, which is hotter than normal. Also my cpu is at 40c, when its usually at 30 - 35. Usually my com is extremely cool, though i don't use liquid cooling and the room isn't air conditioned. So i don't understand why its suddenly like this.

Or is it a virus? Problem started when my sis tried to change her wallpaper. She said she just clicked on the photo and then the monitor shut off. Virus? Or coincidence? Need your help on this asap :) im using intel core i7 920, overclocked to 3. 2ghz. Asus rampage ii extreme mobo. Expertvision 8800gt sonic.coolermaster storm scout chassis. Windows 7 ultimate.

The system reboots automatically and tells me windows shut down unexpectedly. I just upgraded to windows 7 yesterday. I was always able to backup with windows vista home premium 64-bit. I have tried to format the hard drive but the computer does the same thing, that is shuts down, and i get the same message. When i ran windows advisor it told me this drive was compatible with windows 7. What is my solution?

Computer Randomly Shuts Down

I checked the "similar questions" options and didn't none of the solutions seemed to apply to me, so here goes!:So i've had this computer for a while now (i would say aboutátwo years). It's a home-built made by a computer-savvy friend of mine and it's been fantastic. It still has high marks in everything but my hard drive. I'm some-what of a gamer, and it's been running games incredibly well. So i decided to move to taiwan to teach english. I really didn't want to miss out on pc gaming for a year(+), so i brought this sucker with me.

I get to my apartment - no 3-prong outlets!á Get a cheap 2-to-3 prong adapter, buy a fancy new screen, and voila, computer seems to be working!á It made the flight with me! (Yes, i had to check it, i had the airline people put tons of "fragile" stickers on it, but that was probably mistake number one, even though i had the original box, and even though i still tried to keep it from getting damaged by putting in other clothes to hopefully brace the shocks. Nyway, so i'm listening to some itunes, for about an hour and then suddenly. Shut down. Oh well, i'll just turn it on.

Itunes. Shut down. I plug in my first-video-gen ipod to update new songs and what not?áShut down. I also brought my laptop here with me so after several more instances of random shut down, i focus on my laptop, and say goodbye until i can bring it to a repair shop or something in the states or have someone with computer knowledge take a look at it. My laptop dies (it was old and had some liquid damage that i guess finally killed it). So now i have to use my desktop. Hey, it's been working ok, even updating my ipod with no problems!

Oh wait, unless i'm playing music at the same time as updating it. So i just don't do that anymore!áMy computer-savvy friend recommends that i get a diagnostic program to see why i'm having problems. I get this thing called sisoftware sandra lite 2010 from cnet after reading their enthusiastic review. I start up the program and it starts checking. Something. I can't remember, had to do with running calculations and the computer shuts off.

Almost immediately after the test starts. I download andáinstall starcraft 2. Successfully!á "Wow it stayed on long enough to complete it without shutting down! Maybe it's better!"Try to play starcraft 2 -áshuts down. Damn! What is wrong with my computer!áI see that the little icon at the bottom right has a red x circle on it. I click on it for the first time. "Troubleshoot a problem with your computer. "Oh, might that fix the problem?"Your computer might be encountering a memory problem. "áHmm, hopefully because that's easy to fix, right? Just buy new memory! So i let the windows memory diagnostic test do it's thing.

It restarts the computer and "oo, that's a new thing" the test starts. 1%. 2%. Shut down! So. Is it my memory?áIf it was my memory wouldn't the test finish? Is it my cpu?á There is a big fan covering the cpu and it moved slightly after the flight.could that have affected the processor? Is it the fact that it's not technically grounded even though it's plugged into a seemingly ok power strip? Is it something else? The motherboard?áThe fact that it's 110v here and not the us standard 120v?I've also noticed that i can browse the internet ok, but if i try to full-screen a video, it shuts down!á

But if i don't full screen the video, there are no problems. It's also really hot and humid here, and i don't have air conditioning yet. Is it overheating? This case is a coolermaster cosmos, it's supposed to be pretty good at keeping everything cooláwhat is going on!?

Floppy Drive Shuts Down Computer

I own a 2005 dell 8400 xp, it did not come with a floppy drive. When i purchased my designer i embroidery unit it required floppies. I ordered a small floppy drive and plugged it in a usb port. For the past couple of years this had worked fine. Now when i plug it in the computer acts as though something is attacking it and shuts down. I use frontier "peace of mind" for my troubleshooting and what not and they told me that when windows did an upgrade it must have down something to no longer recognize the floppy drive and suggested i call dell. Since my computer is no longer under warranted theyáwouldn't hep me. What can i do?

Computer Shuts Down After Awake From Sleep Mode

I just built a new computer with an asus p7p55d premium motherboard. When i try to wake the computer from sleep mode (i've tried both s1 and s3 sleep modes in the bios), the fans start to run and the motherboard leds turn on, but then the computer just powers off. I then have to turn the computer back on, wait for the bios to load, and then i get the "windows was shut down unexpectedly. Start windows normally or safe mode?" Prompt.

I've tried changing all of the settings i can think of in the windows 7 power options, as well as in the asus bios menu. A friend of mine said it might have to do with acpi settings, but it doesn't seem to change anything when i enable or disable them in the bios.could it possibly be a physical hardware problem? Does anyone have any ideas?

Dual Monitor Problem - 2nd Monitor Detected Black

Ok, so i have a dell that was runningávista and two monitors. When i upgraded to windows 7 pro i ran into the infamous black screen problem and fixed it. However, i only fixed my main monitor. When i open the display window, both of my monitors are detected but my secondary monitor shows a black screen andáthe monitor itselfásays there is no signal detected from my pc.

The strange thing isámy pc thinks its working (i can drag a window from my working monitor towards the black one and it moves out of my working monitor into the black screen). I currently have both of them plugged in using a dvi to vga splitter and i have also updated the drivers by clicking the "update driver" button in the monitor properties window. Please help if you can!

Cannot Move Windows From One Monitor To Other - Dual Monitor Setup

I have two monitors of the same resolution connected to an ati radeon hd 4300/4500 video card. In windows 7 extended mode i see a full working desktop on one monitor, but only the background picture on the other - the four-square flag motif again a blue background with wispy lines, butterfly etc.

No taskbar, icons or anything else. On one occasion briefly the mouse cursor appeared on it instead of on the full desktop image. If i try to drag a window on to the second monitor it won't go there. The settings are landscape with two mointors "1" and "2". I have two images but how can i use the second one?

Monitor Will Just Go Blank

I have an issue where my monitor will just go blank. The computer is running but no display. My first thought was that this is a display adapter/video driver issue but i not longer think so. Let me explain. My set up is a hp m9040n running windows 7 ultimate x64. I have a nvidia 9600 gso card that is less than 6 months old and use a samsung syncmaster t240 monitor.

This first started happening about one month ago right after i upgraded my video card driver to the latest version. I would be away from the computer for awhile and when i came back no amount of mouse shaking would bring the screen on. At that point a hard shut down and boot up would bring things back.

Thursday it got worse. Hard shut downs would not bring anything back but i would see the bios startup screen so obviously the monitor and display adapter has some output. I started in safe-mode and installed that latest driver from the nvidia website. No difference, in fact it appears to be the same driver that windows update put out.

My next step was to roll back my driver to the one that came with my video card. This kind of works. There are new symptoms now. Now what happens is that after working for awhile i would hear the usual kind of insert/disconnect sound (like plugging in a usb device) and then the screen resolution would change from 1920x1200 to 1024x768. For some reason the monitor according to the screen resolution control would go from my monitor to a generic. If i click on the detect button, the screen will blank out and once again i have to do a hard shut down. The hard shut down followed by a boot in safe mode and and reboot restores things to normal.

Dual Monitor

Is there any option available with using dual monitor in aá"stretched" view instead of extended? What i'm trying to do is run 1 application over my 2 monitors in full screen mode. So far i haven't found anything that would make this possible. I can extend and i can enlarge a window over 2 monitors but i can't really use a resolution of ~3200 * 1050 for example. This was possible under xp but neither vista or windows 7 i can get this to work.

I've tried searching the forums but alas i have not found an answer for this. If someone can find a topic already covering this sorry for double posting. But mostly i found extending and not really stretching it over 2 screens.

Problem With Monitor

Well i am not sure if monitor is the cause of the problem. Ok listená every time(but not always)ái start my computer after windows startupá i see my desktop andáafter 1-2 minutes(not more) my screen display goes black or white or grey. The computer and the screen are still working but no response. I dont even see the cursor. I restart my computer and after everything is fine. It never happens again. But the next day it happens again!

My graphics card is ati radeon 5770, my os is windows 7 64 bit and my screen is lg monitor-tv m227wd. Refresh rate is 60hz and resolution is 192x1080. The first 1-2 days i used the computer that problem didnt appear. So it makes me think that maybe i downloaded something that causes this problem(a programme)áor its a hardware problem? I have updated the graphics drivers and also i have all the microsoft updates.

Dual Monitor Help

Dell couldn't seem to solve my problem, so i'm desperately in need of help. I have a dell inspiron 580, i3 processors. The machine has one vga output, and hdmi. I want to run two monitors, so dell informed me to buy a second vid card. I did, installed a raedon jd2600 pro 512mb with two dvi connections and one dvi adapter. I hooked both monitors up, and it will either run one monitor on the ati card, or one on the intel card, but i cannot extend the display. I was on the dell support line for over an hour, andá they told me to just go buy another dvi adapter and plug it in. So if that's true, i cant run two cards?

Cannot Get Second Monitor To Work

I am connecting a second monitor to my sony vaio-vgn-sz650n-by vga. Before upgrading from vista to 7, it was working just fine. After upgrading, i plug it in, screen blinks, but no display on second monitor. It is a dell g2210 by the way. I tried restarting my computer with monitor connected, without it connected, and went into the display settings where you can change resolution, etc. On the different monitors, and nothing there. Tried to "detect" monitor, still nothing. Tried updating the driver, nothing(maybe wrong driver?). I would love to get this problem solved as school is starting and i need to use my computer a lot, and really like having dual monitors.

Two Installations For Same Monitor

I recently installed windowsá7 replacing vista on my hp pavillion. After some difficulty which required a denovo installation versus an upgrade, i managed to get windows 7 functioning. However, when playing a game (cod waw, etc) if i get killed and the game restarts, there is a 4-10 sec delay in the screen returning to the game scene. I can hear the sound immediately but the video lags. When i look at the control panel =>ámonitors, it shows that the monitor is installed twice. How do i remove one of the installations?

Hooking Tv Up As A Monitor

I have tried everything. I have gone to nvidia and got the updates for 7. I have a pavilion slimline s7600n i have a outdated graphics card, nvidia geforce 6150 le gpu. I cant even upgrade it. I don't think thats the reason my tv is not recognized. I had it hooked up when i had xp and it worked just fine. I think that windows 7 thinks i am trying to hook up two monitors. I just want this to work the tv has the same resolution as the hpv15 monitor but it wont work.

I have been at this all day. Please help i can get it to come on for a second, but the computer quickly reboots. I have to plug the hpv15 monitor back in to get reception. It says had to reboot or something of that nature because it found new hardware. I can find a generic monitor but i cannot make it the primary monitor. Multi Monitor Spanning

I put this under hardware and drivers because it pertains to the functionality of windows with hardware, more specifically video cards and monitors. We in the it department are evaluating windows 7 currently (skipped vista because of functional needs)áand in our tests we came across this problem. Granted we can drag the windows open across the monitors or manually set the window size, but this to us is an extreme problem as we would have to instruct all of those users on how they can achieve this goal.

Why is this an issue? We have a good number of people and workstations/laptops (well over 5, 000 currently). All of these use excell and about 30% use visio. Currently in xp, when a spreadsheet/document is opened (more for excel spreadsheets) the user double clicks the top window bar to maximize it and it fills both monitors (no need to drag it open or set the window resolution). This function is not available in later operating systems as i have found out. I actually have two questions, and though i doubt i will receive a cognizant answer, i will ask them.

1 " why was this feature removed from later productions?

2 " is there an effort to re-institute this feature in later windows versions?

I know windows vista/7 (as i read) will not have this ability, but i need to know if this will become part of the next generation. As it is i will have a very hard time explaining this to people that use our board room with 2 x 2 displays on the wall without having to expend more money for something that was at one time a featureŁ of the windows environment.
