Stopping Microsoft Office Updates Offer

Os: windows 7 home premium 64-bit my computer came preloaded with a trial of microsoft office home and student 2007. I have since uninstalled it. Even though it is no longer installed on my machine, windows update continues to pester me with office updates i do not want or need. I have all updates installed, even a handful of earlier office updates from when i did have the software installed. Since i no longer have office, i have no use for any more updates to it. Therefore i would like to know how to stop this incessant nagging to update office. I would appreciate a real helpful response and not just an irrelevant copy-paste auto-response.

Laptop Restarts After Installing Updates Without Prompting

I just purchased a new laptop with windows 7. It has several times restarted after installing updates without prompting me first so i lose all my work. Vista used to warn me and let me postpone restarting my computer. Is something similar possible in windows 7? Thanks for any suggestions

Usb Drives, External Hd Not Shutting Down

When i finish using my usb thumb drive, or external hard drive and click the icon for "safely remove hardware and eject media" and click "remove", the message pops up saying the drive can be safely removed - but the drive light stays illuminated on the thumb drive or the external drive. If i pull the thumb drive out, the next time i use it i'm informed that there may be errors and i'm given the option to scan and fix the drive or continue without scanning. Because of this problem, i always shut the pc down before removing the external hard drive (its light stays on as well).

Is there some way to correct this?

System Shutting Down After Left Idle

Not sure if this is the correct forum. Every now and then, i come back to do something and my system has completely shut down, for no apparent reason. It is not restarting, but shutting down. I have not caught it, when it has done it. I push the powere button and it comes back up, and will either go for safe mode or regular start, either will work (though usually i do a safe mode and, scan the hd on restart). It did not happen with xp, but has been doing this for about 2 wks or more. I have  checked connections and the fans, all seems alright there. Anything i can check?

Stopping Programs From Starting

Can anyone tell me how to stop programs from starting up in windows 7? I know how to do it in vista, & microsoft support says to do it basically the same, but it does not seem to have the same options to choose as vista. Meaning: the "software explorer" does not appear when you get into the "tools" section of defender. I can't seem to bring software explorer up at all. I have tried typing it in the seach option of the start menu also. Please help. I don't want many programs slowing my computer.

Random Shut Down / Computer Randomly Shutting Down

I have a sony vaio vgn-cs190j. I upgraded to windows 7 professional 64bit about 4 months ago and am now having issues with my computer randomly shutting down. It will instantly freeze up for like a second and just shut off to immediate power off. There is no bsod or a restart. It just instantly shuts down. It has happened while doing flash applets, surfing the web, and playing games on my computer. It even happened one time while i was on microsoft word. There is also the occasional occurrence where the computer will shut down immediately shutdown before or during start up.
Does anyone know how to fix this or if there is a known problem of this happening?

Logitech Wireless Mouse Intermittently Stopping

I have a logitech v220 wireless mouse on a hp pavilion dv6 laptop, running windows 7 64 bit, the mouse works fine, except at seemingly random times it just stops working. I then have to uninstall all of my usb drivers, and reboot the computer. It can take up to 3 reboots before the mouse works again. The mouse worked fine in vista on the same machine, the same type of mouse works on my wife's laptop which is the same as mine, except she is running vista 64 bit.

When the wireless mouse stops working, the built in touch pad works fine, but this is a pain, i have never gotten used to using the touch pad. When the mouse stops working, device manager displays unknown device in the usb driver's section. I have updated all of my drivers, both from intel and hp.

Some Programs Delays Before Booting Up

I have win 7 ultimate, cpu-core duo e6850, 4gb memory, nvdia 8800 gtx graphics card, motherboard evga nforce 680i lt sli. Often i will double click a program, usually internet explorer. The cursor will twirl like it is booting the program for 10 seconds then stop. In 1 to 2 minutes later the program will run. It seems that this does not happen with "portable" programs that don't access the registry. I have had this happen ever since installing win 7. I've scanned for viruses with 3 different programs and am clean. Does anyone know what is going onlso i have set my power saving settings to be always on and to never hibernate.

Trouble Dual Booting Win7 And Xp

Trying to install win xp onto a notebook that already has win 7 installed. I shrunk the partition holding win 7 and created a primary partition on the other. What i did was cut the hd in half and now have two partitions. The second partition is  a health primary partition and is now drive e:. I restart the notebook and with the xp pro disc in the cd drive i boot from it. All of the installation files and drivers load as usual but when it gets to the next part, i get a blue screen and it goes no farther.

I have run every test chkdsk etc. And the drive is fine. I'm starting to get the idea that you cannot install xp on a computer that is already running 7 no matter what you do. I have a multiboot desktop that i built but i installed xp first and then 7 and it works fine but then this was a computer that never had an os  of any kind on it. If anyone can confirm that i can't install xp on this machine unless i start from scratch and reinstall everything i would appreciate it, if there is a work around please let me know.

Reinstall On Dual Booting Macbook

I installed a recently purchased full version of windows 7 ultimate on my dual booting macbook pro laptop but am unable to install the xp compatibility module. Apparently there is an authenticity issue. The problem may be due to the fact that when i partitioned the disk and installed windows, i inadvertently corrupted the mac os x system. So i reinitialized the disk and installed os x again. Windows 7 apparently installed successfully. But when i downloaded the windows xp compatibility module it failed to install. The message indicates that there is an authenticity issue.

Problem Booting In Sata Mode

I recently built a computer using an asrock x58 extreme mobo. I installed windows 7, but realized only afterward that the mobo's default setting for the hdds was ide rather than sata.

I followed the registry hack instructions to change the "start" parameter for the msahci driver to "0" (, rebooted, changed the bios setting to ahci and everything worked fine. The sata drivers loaded and things were looking good!

However, a few days later i had a problem with going into "sleep" mode. The computer hung, and after several minutes i just switched if off and rebooted.

Now, i cannot get it to boot properly with the bios in ahci mode. The registry entries are still the same as when ahci was working, but it will not boot in sata mode. I get the message "problem loading os". Changing the bios back to ide allows me to boot.

Any ideas as to what went wrong (was it the hard shutdown that messed me up?), And any ideas on how to get sata working again?

Win 7 Not Booting - Unable To Do A System Restore

I installed the last windows updates last night, and this morning when i tried to boot up my computer, it worked, but it froze when i tried to run explorer so i had to do a forced shutdown. I then was unable to do a system restore, and now i'm getting the following message:windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It goes on to ask me insert the windows disc (which i don't have), and goes on to say "an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data". What can i do to restore windows off of my hard-drive?

Trouble Booting From Windows Install Disk

I built a new computer installed windows xp no problem. It is a total sata machine hard drives and optical drive. I purchased a retail upgrade windows 7 disk. So i have to boot off the installation disc and select custom, there lies my problem. The disks loads the operating system into memory and gives me the desk top the only thing i can do is move the mouse around. It will not go to the install screen every time i put the disk into the dvd drive it says loading windows file then the windows 7 desktop appears no option to install no nothing. Is there a setting i am missing in bios where it runs the operating system off the disk and not install it.

Blue Screen Stop Error When Booting

I went on vacation june 5th. When i shutdown my computer (windows 7 professional x64) before leaving, two (2) critical microsoft updates were installed. When i returned from vacation today, june 9th, & started up my computer, i get a flash of a blue screen that has some stop error. It goes by so fast, i can't read it. I've tried the obligatory startup repair options numerous times, but it says that it cannot determine the cause of the problem.

I've tried the system restore option, but it is trying to restore to the (c:) (system) drive, which shows a status of "you must enable system protection on this drive". In startup recovery, the actual system drive has now become the e: or x: drive, so that doesn't work & the os isn't smart enough to identify the correct drive (i guess).

I've tried using the command prompt & running bootrec.exe with every available option, including rebuilding the bcd, but that doesn't work either. The /scan os option says "total identified windows installations: 0", even though i can see all of my windows files on the ~now~ e: & x: drives. I've tried booting into safe mode, but i get the same blue screen. On which the message is again unidentifiable. Everything was working fine before i shutdown my computer & the microsoft updates were installed.

Dual Booting Cannot Find Microsoft Office Suite

I have set up a win 7 dual boot on my laptop which had vista home. The c drive has vista along with all my programs including microsoft office suite 2003 and 2007. When in win 7 i can find and use some programs eg picassa, photofiltre, but i cannot even see the microsoft office suites, they are not listed under all programs on the c drive.

I have tried copying a shortcut to word (in vista) on the win7 desktop folder, but it tells me when i click that i can only use shortcuts on programs that are installed? As i teach seniors computer i need to be able to access the office suites from win7 is there any way this can be achieved?

Pc Will Not Shut Down, Stays On " Shutting Down " Page

I have been trying to get my windows 7 to work for the past week. My basic problem at this point is getting it to shut down. It gets to the "shutting down" page and pretty much sits there and won't shut down. I have a dell inspiron 530. 64 bit. Nd in case you're going to ask. I know very little about the workings of a computer. I can work in programs and do very well. I work on a computer every day but as far as what makes it work. Thats a mystery to me. So, that said, when i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i was hoping it would help me with problems i was having with vista. I'd like to get over this shutting down problem so i can find out if it does the trick.

Here is a possibility of where i went wrong. I may have neglected some of the drivers needed to upgrade to 7. Those being the ones mentioned on the dell site. The upgrades for my inspiron 530. I downloaded the drivers but the instructions on how to load them were a bit confusing. Apparently i have to load them in some order, but the ones i downloaded have different names than the ones listed in the instructions. So, since i have no clue what they're talking about i dont know if i dare open and install these. If i do them in the wrong order im afraid things will just get worse.

Pc Says " Shutting Down " But Does Not Shut Down

When i select the option to shut down my computer, it says "shutting down. " For fifteen to twenty minutes, then goes to a blue screen that says something about dumping memory and then reloads the log in screen. At that point it usually shuts down when i select the option but overall it takes about thirty minutes to shut down my computer sometimes, while once in a while it shuts down in less than five seconds. I already set up my computer to shut down rather than hibernate/sleep/restart when i select the shutdown button so that is not the issue. Here are my general system specifications:os: windows 7 home premium 64 bitcpu: intel core i7 920 2. 8ghz gpu: nvidia geforce gtx 260 896mb ram: 9mb hard drive: 750 gb my computer model is the gateway fx6801-03.

I installed the windows updates by their size from lower to large one throw internet by windows update, but now i found that some updates like sp2 needs some others like sp1 pre-installed. The defects i saw was bugs in display ( some part of 2 gadgets on sidebar was incomplete ) which has been solved, and the slowed windows slightly .

So what happens to my laptop which i can't find where may work improperly ? Should i uninstall all the updates and reinstall them by date ( the oldest first )? I have installed 3 hotfixes ( kb941997-kb938725-kb936003 ) came with my laptop dvd ; are there sp1? And if i installed sp2 throw windows updates ? My system is windows vista home premium 32 bit .

Installing Updates

Bought an e-machines pc for christmas 2007. In december 2009 i had a problem with the computer which has recently been diagnosed has a common fault with the motherboard which i have since replaced. I have spent the last two weeks trying to get my system back up and running after replacing the motherboard. I have re-installed the windows vista that came with the pc and the computer works fine. I then download avg internet security and use the computer absolutely fine. However each time i switch off the pc and then try to switch it back on it tells me that the system registry is missing or corrupt and to boot from the disc to do the repair.

I do this and again the computer works fine. However the internet security and anything else i had on there is missing including any documents i had saved. This happens everytime switch off the computer. Having looked on this site i found that i had no service packs installed so downloaded sp1 and sp2. These wouldn't run and the site advised me to install an updater add on. This wouldn't install either. My automatic updates wont work either. I'm not computer illiterate but i'm no expert either so please help.

I have an hp pavilion slimline with windows 7. I am having trouble with windows installer. I am not in safe mode, i have administrative rights. The message says that windows installer is in safe mode or incorrectly installed. I cannot run certain updates and i cannot install itunes64 setup. The computer runs and works great except for the installer. I am unable to use or install windows cleanup utility, etc. Any suggestions or links to fix this problem?

I was on the phone with apple support for 2 hrs. To try to get working when i bought my iphone. They suggested several things and finally suggested contacting hp, which was a joke. I do not know where or who to contact at microsoft for help. I am not very savvy with computers.
