Installed Win7 On New Hard Drive - Cd Key To Register Issue

Bought new hard drive, had no prior os. Bought and installed windows 7, with no problem. But, when it asks for cd key to register, it says windows 7 is just an update from vista. What to do? Is it going to stop updating automatically or what? Is there a fix?

Win 7 Installed On New Hard Drive

I purchased windows 7 home premium upgrade version to upgrade my hp vista computer. My c: drive now appears to be failing and i need to find out what my options are for getting windows 7 installed on a new hard drive that i will be buying to replace the old one. I am assuming that i cannot use the windows 7 upgrade version to install on a new hard drive, correct?  Do i have to install vista on the new hard drive and then upgrade to 7? If so, i did not get a vista disk when i bought the computer new.

Upgrade To New Hard Drive - Product Key Not Valid

My hard drive crashed - trying to install windows 7 upgrade to new hard drive - product key not valid. I upgraded my computer running vista to windows 7 with an upgrade disk - no problem. My hard drive crashed so i now have a brand new hard drive in the computer.

I boot from the windows 7 dvd but of course the product key is invalid because there is no operating system on the new hard drive. Is there a way to get around this without having to install an operating system on my new hard drive first?

Upgrading Existing Hard Drive To Ssd Hard Drive

I have recently purchased a laptop with one hard drive slot. I want to change the existing hard drive slot to a ssd. My laptop came with windows 7 pro pre-installed (no disk supplied). When i purchased the machine i created the windows recovery disk.

I would like to know if the upgrade is as simple as:

1) removing the current 500g hard drive
2) installing the new new ssd
3) running the recovery disks to re-install my copy of windows 7 pro or am i missing something?

Upgrade On New Hard Drive Because Of Failed Hard Drive

Anyway to upgrade on a new hard drive because of a failed hard drive with vista on it? I had a pc that came with a pre installed version of vista home 32 bit, however my hard drive has just totally failed, is there anyway that i'll be able to just get the upgrade version and install it on my new hard drive, or as i beleive to be the case, will i have to get the full version of windows 7. My pc didn't come with any sort of vista install disc.

As i said im fairly certain i know the answer and its that i get a new hard drive and will have to get the full version of 7 but just wanted to check with people who know far more on the subject than i do.

Taskbar Does Not Register When Mouse Out

My taskbar acts as if my cursor is always on it. Specifically, as if the cursor is always on one of the pinned items. Examples:if i move my mouse vertically up off an item that is not launched, it will show the two vertical bars framing it, and the glow (see firefox icon in screen-shot below). Similarly, if i move my cursor left from explorer (the leftmost pinned item) to the "start menu" orb, the explorer icon retains the vertical bars and glow. If i mouse up from an item that is launched, but not in focus, it retains the mouse-over/alert glow. If i move my cursor over a launched item, it instantly pops up with a preview, instead of waiting the 1-2 seconds it's supposed to.

Cannot Register Ms Office 2007

I don't really know what else to do here. I have 2 problems and i really think that the problem is related. Firstly and most importantly, i can not register ms office ultimate 2007. I get the error 701098. It says either a proxy is the problem or its a firewall. I have no firewall running. Defender is not running. Nothing is running but for some reason, ms office is the only thing on the face of the planet that will not connect to the internet.

I need this to work for my college but cant get it to work and ms will not help me. 'i also am trying to tether my blackberry bold 9000 and it will not leave my computer as a modem to connect to the server to act as a modem. Something on my computer is blocking or not allowing and i can not figure out what it is and i cant do my school work.

Swapping Hard Drives, Single Activation Key

Ok, here is the thing. I am using windows 7 professional 64-bit on my laptop. Now i need a bigger hard drive (which i already ordered). The product key for my windows i got from my university. Now it is a single activation key. It is extremely retarded but yes, you use the key once, its gone. Now i going to attempt ghosting the hdd via clonezilla and swapping the hard drive.

My second option is using the windows backup and restore function (i already have a dvd using the iso image which university provides). Now, i just want to know if windows backup and restore function requires a reactivation of windows or re-entering of the product key. Also, what about clonezilla?  Does ghosting, in general, require reactivation?

Bootable Flash Drive Or Hard Drive To Install Win 7

estimating windows 7 wim file sizes - ufd too small for image. I was trying to capture awim file for windows 7 to a bootable ufd, but the 16gb ufd was too small. I reran and directed the capture to a usb hard drive. Is there a tool to estimate the ufd size required? Is the fat32 format a constraint? Can i build a bootable usb hard drive and capture the image to it so that if i boot from the usb hd instead of the ufd? Can i install from a usb hard drive instead of the ufd? Then i would not be limited to the usb size of 16gb or 32gb.

Can't Eject Usb Hard Drive, Drive Always In Use

I have a 500gb maxtor onetouch 4 external usb backup drive that is set to do weekly backups with windows backup. This works great except that everything and their grandmother wants to spin the hard drive up whenever possible. This is not an ideal situation: with exception to backup, this drive is not used for anything. So i had a great idea, i'll keep the drive unmounted until i need to backup which then a newly created scheduled task would mount, backup and unmount when done! Well, turns out, windows doesn't think so. And this makes me a sad panda.

Product Key Invalid After Installing New Drive

After discovering that my current hard drive was damaged, yet still functional, i decided to buy a new drive. After removing the old drive and installing the new drive, i next went to install my copy of windows 7 home premium. When i went to authenticate the cd-key, i received a 'not valid key' error. I double and triple checked the key that i received in my email when i purchased my copy of windows 7 from a student discount from microsoft. I feel that i would need to deactivate it off of the original drive before i install it on the new one, but i'm not sure as to how i would do so.

Bootable Usb - Drive Error, Press Any Key

My hard drive running windows xp died on my lenovo s10 netbook. I replaced the hard drive and decided it was a good time to do a clean install of windows 7. I followed and met all of the conditions of the "window 7 usb/dvd download tool" to create the supposed bootable usb key. I went into my bios settings and made sure that the usb is the first boot option. When i start the computer the lenovo title screen pops up and then i can see the s10 accessing the usb.

It attempts to read and i get a "drive error, press any key". Pressing any key just generates the same message. I thought it might be that my hard drive is unformatted and is completely clean but that is not the issue. On my work laptop i configured the bios to boot off of the usb and the same message appears. I can only think that the usb as configured is not truly bootable.

I did re-download microsoft .net framework 3. 5 and microsoft image mastering api v2 and uninstall the windows 7 usb and dvd tool and reinstall. I have created a usb bootable 3 times and even tried a different flash without success. Any one have any ideas before i give up and return windows 7.

Flash Drive Bitlocker Not Recognizing Recovery Key

My flash drive with my bitlocker key died, and my work pc asked me to enter my bitlocker recovery key to boot. No problem, went to the office, got the harcopy of my bitlocker info out and typed in my 48 digit bitlocker recovery key. "Wrong key" reply. I checked, and the recovery key identication on on my hardcopy that i printed out when i installed bitlocker two years ago doesn't match the bitlocker recovery identification currently on the recovery screen. I realize i'm probably screwed, but how would the key change over time without any action on my part?

Hard Drive Not Available

I did an upgrade from vista to windows 7 home premium. I did a clean install, not an upgrade. I had 2 hard drives on the pc. At the start of the process, it asked it i wanted to partition drives. I responded yes and did the reboot from the disk. Each hard drive had 2 partitions under vista. I wanted to move to 1 partition under windows 7. It allowed me to delete the virtual drives and proceeded with the install. Everything when fine from there without any errors.

When i check my computer, only 1 of the drives is available. I went to device manager and the controller for the 2nd drive is there. It says it is working properly. I tried updating the driver and it said i had the latest driver. I checked the tab that shows drive statistics and it is blank. At the bottom there is a populate button. I clicked it and it displays the statistics for the drive correctly. It doesn't make it available. If i exit and come back in the statistics are blank again. I have done reboots and it is still not available under my computer. How do i get windows 7 to see this drive?

Hard Drive Score

I had 2 older hard drives running at 7200rpm in sata raid 0 mode and installed win7 64bit. Score was 5. 9. So i went and bought 2 new hard drives, still seagate but with 32mb cache, 500gb. Firstly i installed win7 on 1 drive and still have a score of 5. 9. Then i installed it on both new hard drives using raid 0 mode again and the score was still 5. 9. How do we get a higher score with this thing? All else is above 7 on my system but just hd's are lacking. What can i do?

Partition Hard Drive

I got a new pc with windows 7 64-bit. The c drive has 578 gb of free space. I want to partition it so the c drive has about 100gb, and then my data drive will have 478gb. When i use the shrink volume utility in computer management, the most i am able to shrink the c drive is about 302gb. That will put the c drive at 276 gb, but i would like to get it down to around 100gb. Do i need to buy some partition software to do this or is there another way to try this in windows.

Corrupted Hard Drive

I tried to upgrade my toshiba laptop from windows vista to windows 7 and it went into a continuous reboot loop and then destroyed my hard drive. I replaced my hard drive and then tried using the windows 7 upgrade for full installation and it seemed to take, but it didn't give me a chance to put the product key in and now it's asking for the product key(which i tried) and saying that i have 24 hours to put a full version product key in or i can't use my windows. What can i do? Please let me know soon.

Replacing Hard Drive

I installed windows 7 ultimate full retail version a few months ago from vista and haven't had any issues with it and am glad i purchased 7. However recently i'm starting to think my hard drive might be on its way out, its very noisy and i've had a couple of lock ups.

Ideally i'd like to buy a new (better) hard drive and start again with a fresh install but i don't know if im aloud to do that. Will it allow me to install windows 7 on another hard drive when all the other parts are the same? Sorry for the basic question but obviously i want to make sure whats what before going ahead, or before my hard drive dies lol.
