Win 7 64-bit Installed 12gb Ram But Only Sees 6gb

I have windows 7 64 professional installed with 12 gb of ram and i note the following:

Cpu-id shows me with 12 gb of ram (http://valid. Canardpc.com/show_oc.php?Id=1136011)
However, window's system info show installed memory (ram) as 6. 00 gb. I also notice that during boot-up, the screen indicates that there is also only 6 gb. Lastly, i ran the memory configuration from crucial which also shows only 6 gb of ram!

Any ideas?

Missing Ram - 8gb Bought 6gb Installed

I have a new dell computer with windows 7 pro. I purchased 8gb of ram. In system information and anywhere else i can find a reference to installed ram i am being told that the installed physical memory is 6gb ram. I have taken this up with the dell partner that i bought the computer from but they have not come back to me. I have posted on the dell forum and been told to look in the bios but i am not a techi and i do not know how to do that. Now a moderator on the dell forum is telling me to post on a microsoft support forum as they think it is a win 7 problem. So can anyone help please?

2.7 Out Of 3.00 Installed Ram Usable

I'm running windows 7 ultimate 32-bit and have 3 gb of ram installed in my computer. 32-bit editions of windows are supposed to be able to use up to 3. 2 gb of ram or something like that. However, when i look at a detailed performance report, it says that only 2. 70 gb of my 3. 00 gb installed ram is usable. Why is this?

Installed Vs Usable Ram

I had a quick look at some other threads which talks about usable ram being shown less than installed ram. Mine is also same case. In my case, my windows 7 x64 ultimate box shows: installed memory (ram): 4. 00 gb (3. 75 gb usable). I understand that . 25 is gone, due to other devices/motherboard etc. Now my question to experts: considering that there are no hardware changes and if i add 4gb more ram (making total 8gb of physical ram), then what will be the value of my usable ram?

Bsod When More Than 2gb Of Ram Installed

Customer brought in a toshiba portege m800 laptop. Problem it is having is that on a clean install of windows 7 pro 64bit, it will bsod with 0x7e, 0x0a, or 0x1e when there is more than 2gb of memory installed. It boots perfectly fine with 2gb or less.

Motherboard, processor, hard drive, and memory have been replaced. I've tried using different brands of memory, different speeds all with the same problem. All memory that has been used has passed every test thrown at it. The bios reports the correct amount of memory installed no matter how much is installed. The computer can handle up to 8gb of memory.

I know vista had a similar problem, but i was not able to find a hotfix for windows 7 and of course the vista hotfix will not install on 7. Any ideas on solving this problem?

Xp Mode Installed With Little Ram By Default

Installed xp mode and virtual pc and it works, but it created 512 mb of memory by default and it refuses to allow me to close it as it always goes into hibernation even if closed as per instructions. The memory amount can't be changed while it is in hibernation. I've tried over and over to fully close it. I have no data in itthat i care about. I want to reinstall it and give it 3to4gb of ram as i have 16gb on the computer. The current512mb is so small that i can't add graphics to the msword docs. Is there a way to uninstall and reinstall the xp mode?

Win 7 Do Not Show Full 4gb Ram Memory Installed

Windows 7 home premium & ultimate both do not show full 4gb ram memory installed. I have been running vista 32 bit on my sony laptop, hp dv6000 (bought a year ago). Intel core 2 cpu t5300 @ 1. 73
In vista, i was using full 4gb of memory installed. And it was fast. I disabled everything for "best appearance" and it was just a stripped down xp, running decent fast (as compared to win 7 after installation).

I tried to install first the 64 bit win ultimate, the result was slow and sluggish. I noticed that i was only using 2. 99 gb of 4. 0gb memory installed. Which is weird since i upgraded, why did i loose my 1gb memory. I then installed 32 bit win home premium on a partition, the result is again slow and sluggish. And now again i am only showing 2. 99 gb usable, instead of the 4. 0 gb installed in the control panel>system and security> system. How can i regain my lost 1gb back. We can cross out the possibility of an old os, since it was running 4gb with win vista at a comparable very fast speed than the win 7. Thanks .

Is It Possible To Change Installed Software From 64-bit To 32-bit?

I have two desktop computers - one with windows 2000 and the other with xp. The computer with 2000 pooped out so i purchased a new desktop and this one has windows 7 home premium edition 64 bit. It will not allow me to connect my printers and most of my currently used software programs, because they will only run on 32bit. I contacted the manufacture of the printers and some of the software and they had no upgrades to offer that would allow me to run with the 64 bit.

I was told by the sales people at the store where the purchase was made, that i would have to purchase windows professional in order to make these programs and devices work. Is it possible to change the currently installed software from 64 bit to 32 bit without having to purchase new programs?

Win 7 64-bit Ram Is Gone

Upgraded from windows vista 32 bit version to windows 7 64 bit version, hoping for the improved performance by being able to use all my ram in the 64 bit version, my 4 gigs of ram previously being limited to 3. 3 due to the inherent nature of 32 bit os's. I formatted the system drive as directed so i could put in a fresh 64 bit install on the system. After all was up and set, i hit the desktop and checked my ram, it was reading 2 gigs.

Upon further investigation it is now showing 2 gigs of ram in bios as well, but here's the sticker. It's detecting both dimm 2 gig sticks, just only half of each stick! Did windows 7 quietly flash my bios? I can't fix this issue no matter what settings i try, and post is quite insistent i only have 2 gigs now. I tried changing each stick individually and with each one only in the system, both each read 1 gig alone, they were 2 gig sticks before windows 7!

Motherboard: evga nforce 780 sli
Ram: 2 gig  patriot dimm 800hrz ramx2

Not Showing All Ram In Win 7 32-bit

I have just built from the ground up a new system with 4 gb ram. I have installed win 7 32 bit. The bios shows 4g, but windows only recognizes 2. 4 gb. I have verified the following (stolen from other forums): bios. You can check with your bios manufacturer, about how to enable the maximum memory.

Check the advanced boot options.
1. Go to start, in the search bar type msconfig and press enter.
2.system configuration window will open on the screen.
3. Click on tab named "boot".
4. Click on "advanced options" and uncheck the box for "maximum memory".

I have verified the max memory is unchecked, and found it unchecked.

For the record, i have the following hardware:
Msi nf980-g65 mobo
4gb ocz ddr3 pc1600 (2x2g)
2 nvidia 7800 gt (256 mb) in sli

Win 7 X86 32-bit Only Recognises 3 Of 4 Gb Ram

Windows 7 x86 (32-bit) only recognizes 3 of my 4 gb ram. Should i upgrade to windows 7 x64 (64-bit)? I just upgraded to win 7 from vista (both x86) on my sony vaio vgn-280e which was shipped with vista home prem x86 and sony state that it is capable of 4gb ram. I have just upgraded from 3gb to the full 4. And of course only 3 usable according to system properties.

You all say that it's cos x86 oss aren't capable of 4gb ram but that's just not the case with everyone, i've read other forums where people have. And also where x64 users can't access all their 4gb, only 3 or 3. Xgb. I have run linux x86 on here, which uses the full 4, and have an os x leopard install which also detects and uses all 4gb. My bios detects all 4 too. Is there absolutely no way that i can get win 7 to use the full 4gb ddr2 (pc-2 5300 667) ram i have installed?

Further system spec:
Mobile intel 965 express chipset family
Core 2 duo 667mhz t5450 cpus
Intel gma x3100 video (total available graphics memory: 358mb - 64 system, 294 shared)

Also: if i upgrade to win 7 x64, and the full 4gb ram is utilized by the system, isn't the trade-off that an x64 os is more demanding on system resources including ram? Ie. Probably performance-wise i'm not any better off?

Extra question to you: how do i update bios? My bios is showing the full 4 actually, so is my os x install (and using it too). But win 7 x86 says 4 installed, using 3. How can i tell if that extra 1 is or isn't "wasted", ie is it going to graphics (c. 300mb in my case) etc?

Win 7 64-bit Crash - Ram Issues

I recently picked up a copy of windows 7 and thought i'd do a few hardware upgrades at the same time, notably picking up an extra 2x2gb of ram.

The (clean) windows installation continually crashed after the "completing installation" restart, so long as these new ram chips were in the machine; when they were removed, the install went flawlessly. Subsequently, when i put them back in after the install, the computer began to crash just after clearing the windows load screen (the same location as during the install).

I have since tested both these two ram chips and some extra 1gbs that i had laying around in various configurations and amounts to the point where i think i can say that all the ram sticks work fine, as do the slots on the motherboard. I even flashed the motherboard bios hoping that would solve my troubles, but no luck. The bios recognizes all installed ram, and only crashed *after* windows began to load. As near as i can tell, using completely different ram sticks than my new shineys, windows crashes only if my system exceeds 3gbs of ram. Under or at 3gb is fine, in any ram slot configuration, but as soon as i throw the extra gig in it starts to crash.

I've seen other cases on the 'net of similar ram issues caused by the motherboard, but microsoft's compatibility center seems to indicate i should be alright.

Any ideas?

System specs
Asus m2a-mvp mobo
Amd athlon 64 x2-6000+ cpu
Radeon x1950 pro video
Wd 1tb sata hd 7200rpm w/t 32mb cache

Win 7 Home 64-bit Ram Issues

Firstly, pc spec etcmobo = gigabyte ga-n650sli-ds4 http://www.Gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?Pid=2514#ovram = corsair xms2 6400c5c 1. 8v ver 5. 1 (currently at 2*2gb sticks)graphics card = nvidia geforce 260 gtx "approx" total memory 2671 mb (as read from dxdiag)cpu = intel core 2 quad @ 2. 40hz(4 cpus)

The issue im having is im trying to upgrade to 8gb or ram on the above mentioned ram sticks but when ever i go above 2 sticks and enter the realms of >4gb ram windows gets as far as the "starting windows" screen and thats it, it wont even play the little animation. The usual hold-down-power for 4 secs to get a power down goes to a single push at this point (unsure if thats relevant).

I have 4 slots and i have tried all the sticks in all the slots (its been a long night). This is all on the back of a new install after something went horribly wrong in the msconfig interface and my machine was stuck in a loop asking if i wanted to repair windows or start normally both would just reboot the machine back to those options.

In the msconfig interface i have unticked the maxi mum memory (an it support told me to tick it and set it to 0 which is how i got the above issue)regarding bios. My bios can see i have 6gb running when i have the 3 sticks in, not even got to 4 sticks yet. But it just seems windows doesn't wanna play ball. Iv never ungraded my bios before as all the warnings signs tell me not to unless its really really needed. I really hope someone can help with this as iv ran out of things to try.

64-bit Win 7 Ram Compatibility - 2gb Only 1.87 Gb Usable

I'm now using windows 7 32-bit, but my programs require an upgrade to windows 64-bit version. I have used windows 7 upgrade advisor to check if my computer can install a 64-bit version. Then i received a report that said my ram is not compatible. I install 2gb of ram but only 1. 87 gb are usable, so the report said i wouldn't be able to install a 64-bit version of windows. It require a whole 2gb of ram. I now wonder to know that can i install that 64-bit version?

Dell Xps 710 - 8gb Ram With Win 7 64-bit

Unable to get to 8gb ram on x64 dell xps 710 windows 7. Less than 6 works fine. Notice asymmetric vs interleaved and sdram speed listings change. Dell xps710 did clean install of windows 7 x64 from xp. All went well and things worked fine for a while. Decided i wanted to get more out of my x64 machine so decided to upgrade the ram from 4x1gb to the system max 4x2gb. I originally ordered the wrong ram (pc2-6400 800mhz) and when i installed them the system wouldn't even turn on.

Picked up the correct pc2-5300 667mhz 4x2gb units and after a clean install i put 2x2gb sdrams in with 2x1gb original sdrams. Machine shows 6. 0 gb installed and lists them as 667mhz and dual asymmetric. Everything works fine.

If i installed 4x2gb sdrams, the system says 8gb installed but lists them as 800mhz and dual interleaved? Won't make it through startup. Will try to do a repair but nothing works. Go back to 6 or 4 gb and things are fine? Any ideas?

Win 7 64-bit Bsod When Playing Wow Game - Ram Issue

I've been getting windows blue screen of death for some time. I thought it was one of my ram because after swapping them in and out of every slot and even one at a time. One of them was the one that was causing the bsod while the other one was stable. So i replaced both with 4 new sticks and now i'm getting bsod even more often. Like every 30 mins. Before i used to only get it when i was playing a game like wow when i had 2 sticks of ram in and i could go days without crashing. With 1 stick it was constantly stable. Here's are my 2 most recent errors:

Problem signature:
Problem event name: bluescreen
Os version: 6. 1. 7600. 2. 0. 0. 256. 48

Dual Monitors - System Sees Only One

I just bought a brand new system, which has windows 7 (home premium) pre-installed. I've connected two (2) identical monitors (nec lcd72v) to a "y" connector. Both monitors display cloned screen, but it's only seeing a single monitor, not both so i can't "extend" to the second monitor. I've even tried hooking up one nec and one scepter, but get the same result. Both monitors show the same screen, but the system just will not detect the second monitor on which to "extend".

The "y"connector i'm using is a "gigaware 2 port usb-powered vga splitter" which claims to allow one to connect two (2) displays to one computer (such as a monitor, projector or tv). Note: all of the "help" refers to how to use the drop down to select the second monitor, so please be aware that the drop-down shows only the single monitor. I've tried disconnecting one monitor and re-booted. Adding the second back on as soon as the system was up. It still won't see the second device.

Bios Sees New Hdd, But Win 7 Does Not

I just did a fresh, successful install of windows 7 pro. Very happy with it. The boot drive is a 80gb sata drive, residing on sata port 0. I also have a dvd+-rw sitting on sata1. No problems with either of these following windows 7 installation.

I decided i wanted to add more storage, so i bought a new seagate 1. 5tb sata drive. I completed the physical installation of the drive, connected it to the next available sata port (sata2). I turned the machine on, went into bios, turned on sata2 in bios, saved the settings, and booted as normal. I saw a notification window from the task bar indicating the driver for the new hd installed successfully.

However, the new drive does not show up anywhere in windows 7 - not in the device manager, not in the control panel, not in drivemanger. Msc, nowhere i would expect to see it. I powered down, powered back up and went into bios. Bios reports that there's a nice 1. 5tb sata drive installed on sata2.

How is it that bios can see it, but windows 7 can't? Any advice on how to get this working so windows 7 can use it? System is functioning perfectly otherwise.

Msconfig settings for limiting memory have been investigated and found not to have been checked. Any ideas?

Win 7 Sees External Usb Hard Disk But Can't Access It

I'm using windows 7 home premium and had a power supply go out causing my computer to shut down in the middle of moving some large files to a fantom 1 tb external usb hard disk. I've got the system back up and running (after repairing the boot disk that had a corrupt boot sector) but when i plug in the external disk, windows won't allow me to access files. It does recognize the drive when i plug it in but if i go to properties and try to look at drive details or do disk maintenance, it gives an error message saying it can't access the drive. Also, the external drive is not partitioned.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fat or partition table that got messed up when the power went out. I ran the easeus data recovery wizard-it was able to access the drive just fine and tells me the data is still there.

Any thoughts?

Upgrading Ram - Which Type Of Ram I Would Need?

Currently i have a windows vista 32 bit, and am going to go to windows 7 64 bit. I only have 2 gigs of ram right now but i want to upgrade to 4 gigs.

Current specs:
Intel core2 duo t9300 2. 5ghz
2. 00gb ram
Windows vista 32 bit

1- i was wondering how to find out which type of ram i would need. (Btw, this is a laptop)

2- is there anywhere that can give instructions for self installation (i heard it was easy to do myself), or if its even wise to do it myself.

3- would it would benefit me to install the ram before or after i did a clean install for windows 7

Ps- any reliable companies that you would suggest that make ram.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?
