After Upgrade Error - A Raid Volume Is Degraded Because Of A Failed Hd

I have hp pavillion pc with dual raid 1 wd 400 gb drives. After installing window 7 home premium 32 upgrade from windows vista i am getting error message stating "a raid volume is degraded because of a failed hd". I ran diagnostics on hd's at startup in bios, and both hd's passed with no problems. I called hp and they have no answers accept to reinstall operating system. They say the problem is not with hard drives since they passed the hd tests. The computer works fine except for this raid 1 hard drive issue.

I also installed latest intel storage matrix console, and it shows a problem with the hd on disc 1 as follows: hard drive 1 - usage:  array member - status failed.

External Raid 5 Gpt Volume Split In Half

External raid 5 gpt volume "split in half" after connecting to new windows 7 64-bit install. I have an ams venus t5j (ds-2350j) external disk enclosure; it is populated with 5 western digital 1 terabyte caviar green drives, model wd10eads. The venus device uses a control board with a jmicron jmb393 chipset, which is capable of creating raid volumes transparently to a connected host system. I used it to create a 4 terabyte raid 5 volume spanning all five drives.

I have been accessing it using a toshiba p105-s9337 laptop with a vantec pcmcia esata adapter card, which worked but was very inefficient. It was of course necessary to structure the volume as gpt because of its size. Therein was a challenge. My primary system had windows xp 32-bit installed, which doesn't support gpt disks. I experimented with ubuntu and another distro of linux, which does support gpt, but ran into problems getting them to transparently mount the raid 5 volume (it may have been partially my own inexperience, but it *should* have been easier).

As a result i decided i would have to install windows 7 on that system as well, so that i could access this raid volume from it. The system is based on an asus m2n sli deluxe motherboard, which has a built-in esata port driven by a jmicron jmb363 chipset (not port multiplier capable). Upon installing windows 7, installing the jmicron driver for the motherboard, and connecting the raid enclosure, windows shortly wanted to assign the "disk" a new disk id in order to use it.

I have routinely encountered this process in the past without issues when new disks are presented to a windows system, so i thought nothing of allowing it to do so. However, that did not as expected make the existing volume accessible. Upon investigating i discovered that disk manager believed there to be a 1. 67 tb unallocated space, and nothing more!At this point i was understandably anxious, since i had data on the volume.

I checked the volume by connecting it to the windows 7 (32-bit) laptop with which it had previously been working, and discovered a slightly different and more telling picture in disk management: there were two regions shown for the disk, one exactly 2tb and the other one 1. 67 tb, the latter clearly occupying the space in excess of 2tb. Both regions, again, were indicated as unallocated. In both systems, windows 7 also clearly presumed the volume to be mpt, since in both i saw the option to convert it to gpt. Which it already is!What has happened?

Did simply allowing windows to write a disk id to this volume somehow corrupt it? How do i recover the previous single 3. 67 tb volume that was present? Must i simply instruct disk management to convert it to a gpt disk? Is doing so a non-destructive operation?

Installation Failed - The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive

Windows xp to windows 7 installation failed. "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd". Trying to install a legal copy of windows 7 (not downloaded either, actually purchased disk). The disk is an upgrade disk and i am upgrading from windows xp (32-bit) to windows 7 (64-bit).

When i attempt to install it, when it gets to "expanding windows files" i get the error message "the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume grmculxfrer_en_dvd into drive d:" and the installation fails regardless of whether or not i click "cancel" "ignore" or "continue". What is wrong?

I ran a system upgrade check before and everything seems to be ready for the 64-bit.

This question has been asked before but no solution proposed on this forum that i found. Everything is is so slow too! Just to get to the initial installation screen takes 20 minutes and when it begins installation it stalls at 0% for 30 minutes before it throws me the error. How can this be so hard to upgrade?

Raid Configuration Failed

Raid configuration (which is something that is recommended by microsoft) failed>>>> be carefeul - they hung up the phone on him b/c it was after business hours.

We had a redundant hard drive on my husbands computer so we could make sure we didn't loose any files on our computers. Well, within our home network we could not see each others computers which happened just recently and so we decided to do a system restore. My computer has windows 7 and my husbands does too. My system restore performed flawlessly . My husbands. Not so much - he cant even boot his computer let alone get to safe mode. We had been on the phone with microsoft for 3 hours, and i guess they wanted to send us to a different department - well they hung up on him and closed! I personally work for a customer service department and we try our hardest to get things done for our customers.

If there is a problem where we know we cannot fix before our "shift" is over, we make sure we transfer the situation to someone like a manager/expert to make sure the customer gets taken care of. Thats what customer service is all about. I am severely disappointed. By the way, the system restore erased both hard drives in the computer and now we have none of our files or programs.

Working Raid 1 Drives Show Failed Under Disk Management

New install of win7, and my previously working raid 1 drives show failed under disk management. I was using the release candidate for windows 7 until today when i installed the full win7 premium. I have several hard drives, two of which are connected in a raid 1 configuration (mirroring). They worked fine in the release candidate, but when i installed the full version today they were not detected while my other hard drives were.

The two previously mirrored drives showed up in the disk management as being foreign. I right clicked and imported the foreign disks. This brought them online, but still not functional. I tried right clicking and selecting reactive drive, but they are red and say "failed" where the other drives are blue and show "healthy". How do i get the drives to be recognized and usable again? I do not want to lose any information stored on them.

Volume "failed" After Assigning Drive Letters

I have a 300 gb hard drive on a win 7 ultimate system, partitioned into 4 dynamic disks. I reassigned one of the drive letters yesterday with the disk management plug-in. Now the disk management plugin shows the four pieces with the relabeled piece split into two pieces and shows a fifth volume of size 300g (the entire hard drive). The fifth piece is described as "failed" and "missing". In addition, the d: drive is now as labeled as the system drive, although c: is the system drive. Reactivating the missing volume does not succeed. Suggestions, anyone?

Low Volume After Win7 Upgrade

All audio (media player, itunes, system sounds, cds, internet) is much lower after i upgraded to win7. Sound card is a creative sound blaster audigy 2; p/o dell xps desktop motherboard (can not remove sound card)

Was running win7rc without issues. Volume was loud enough to require turning sound down to resonable level. After doing clean install of win7, prior to any downloading of any updates, sound level was about 75% of level of win7rc install. After 1st reboot, audio level was reduced again to about 50%.

I have tried the following:

Re-installed win7 from win7rc (clean install), w/o any updates
Re-installed win7 from win 7rc with all current "recommended" ms updates
Un-installed sound card driver; rebooted; let win7 re-load driver
Un-installed driver and re-installed driver downloaded from creative site

Have set all volume levels to max for consistency (for each app used)

Driver loaded for win 7 rc is same (same release/version) as loaded for win7

Raid Controller Issue After Upgrade

I have a custom built machine. My motherboard is an asus p5gd2 with american megatrends bios dated 2004. Recently my hard-drive died, but i had winxp home premium backed up on a smaller drive. I purchased a western digital caviar black 1tb sata drive and migrated xp onto it using an acronis utility. After updating xp to sp2 i installed vista home premium. I then proceeded to update it to sp2 and then attempted to install windows 7 upgrade and that's where the problems began.

Windows 7 tells me to update ite it8212 ata raid controller, but vista says it's the latest. The driver is 1. 7. 2. 7 dated 11/05. In cmos the sata drive is configured as an ide, the only way it will work. I read all the info in this forum i could find, deleted a virtual drive that seemed to plague others, but to no avail.

I've seen this problem all over the internet and even found a guy who solved it, but he had a different bios and i have been unable to get my hands on the seemingly mythical 1. 7. 2. 9 { http://www.Windowsdailynews.com/2010/01/25/successfully-upgrading-your-raid-drivers-in-windows-7/} is the link to this enterprising person's tale of terror, and frankly i'm not sure i could pull it off.
Is there something about a sata drive causing this?

Is my bios outdated? Is my controller card outdated? I had windows 7 on the recently deceased drive, but it was pata. Hmmm. Anyhow, i will check for an answer next week when i return.

Wpd Filesystem Volume Driver Error Code 19

Wpd filesystem volume driver error code 19 / mtp usb device error code 19 / sansa clip 4 gb. I have windows 7 professional x64. I have a sansa clip 4gb mp3 player (mtp usb device). When i connect it through usb, i get the message "device driver software was not successfully installed. "

In my device manager, under portable devices, there are two exclamation point devices: mtp usb device and wpd file system volume driver. When i inspect their properties, the device status window says for both: "windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

I have used the trouble-shooter and tried to update driver but the message i get when i try to do this is that these are the most up-to-date drivers. I don't know how to address the "configuration information in the registry" issue, of if that is really the cause of the problem.

Remove Drive From Raid / Change Sata Mode From Raid To Ahci

Remove a drive from raid then change sata mode from raid to ahci, situation: i have 3 physical hdds: 1 ssd and 2 identical mechanical drives. The ssd stores the win 7 x64 pro installation while the mechanical drives, in raid 1, store data. The sata mode is set to raid at the moment. I want to remove a mechanical hard drive, thus, breaking the raid. Using the intel raid manager interface, i think i will still have all the data on the 2 mechanical hard drives.

Then, i will want to change the sata mode to ahci (1) because i will no longer have a raid (2) i want to enable trim for my ssd. Questions: how will changing sata mode to ahci affect my os installation? Should i change the mode before or after i remove a raid member? Will i have to reinstall windows?

Ram Failed After Upgrade To Win7

Ram upgrade problems, i have a 32-bit computer running windows 7 and i used to run windows vista with a 2 gb ram and it worked fine. However, once i installed windows 7, i was forced to remove one gb of ram to complete the installation and so i did. But then later i put the gb of ram back in and booted up my computer only to be greeted by a blank black screen. I removed that gb and rebooted my computer and it worked just fine. Anybody know how to fix this problem? It's really annoying running on only 1 gb of ram for it is very slow.

Failed Hard Drive After Win7 Upgrade

I recently upgraded my pc from vista to 7 home premium. A week later my hard drive had a mechanical failure and is now beyond repair. Luckily i backed up all of my data to an external drive for security before upgrading so i have all of my files. I have a replacement blank hard drive but i want to know if i can install windows 7 having already activated the product on the old drive. Also, will i have a problem with the fact that there is no previous version of windows on my blank drive? Can i use my upgrade disk to do a full install on a new drive?

Anytime Upgrade Failed Problem With Technet S/n

I have a windows 7 home premium machine that i am trying to upgrade to professional. I have tried using the anytime upgrade with my tech net s/n only to get told that the upgrade failed. Ok, i think it is stupid that i can not use the tech net s/n, since it is a valid #, but. Oh yeah, and there is no one to call. We know you have 2 valid licenses of our product, but we aren't going to help you.
Is there a way to reinstall win 7 over the existing installation to keep all settings and programs, and yet upgrade from home premium to professional?

Dell 630i Failed Upgrade From Vista

My computer:dell xps 630ie8500 core 2 duo 3. 16 ghz4 gb ram ati radeon 387032 bit vista premium (installed by dell)my problem :first, i downloaded and ran windows 7 upgrade advisor. I was informed that i could upgrade my o. S. To windows 7 premium 32 bit. I was advised to uninstall my ati catalyst manager, ati catalyst center, and itunes software prior to installing the upgrade. I did as advised rebooted and then inserted the windows 7 home premium (32 bit) upgrade disk (purchased at bestbuy) into my dvd drive. The upgrade started to install but failed to finish.

A screen message said windows 7 could not be installed on my computer and that the previous vista o. S. Would be available. Now when i boot, a menu appears that asks me which o. S. I want to use. If i do nothing, the highlighted (default windows 7 choice) tries to run but enters an endless loop at the screen with a blue bird. To use the computer i must turn the computer off and then back on. When the menu screen appears, i must quickly select the vista choice to boot to the vista o. S. If this selection is not done quickly windows 7 tries to boot and enters an endless loop. How can i install windows 7 using my upgrade disk?

Usb Flash Drive Error - Volume Does Not Contain Recognized File System

I plugged in my usb flash drive into a computer using windows 7. It always prompts me to scan and fix or cancel. I canceled every time, but i got annoyed with it popping up every time, so i told it to scan and fix. A loading screen came up so i patiently waited. After completion it asks to format my usb flash drive. I can't format it though because i have homework files and all my other personal files on there. So i canceled the format, but every time i plug it into my computer it asks t format it. I even plugged it into a computer running on windows xp and it wanted to format it.

When i try to run it without formatting it it says, "e: is not accessible. The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. " My question is, what did windows 7 do to my flash drive and how do i recover my data?

Called ms help desk, and they walked me through some things, but they were unable to correct the issue (case id 1115838958).

Upgrade From Vista Home Premium 32-bit Failed Installation

I am attempting to upgrade from windows vista home premium 32-bit to windows 7 home premium 32-bit. I obtained this upgrade from a download, and my installation is failing.

At 21% of the way through the "expanding windows files" process, the installation quits with the following message:

"The upgrade was canceled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the upgrade process will not be saved. " And in a bow below that message: "setup can't continue. Your computer will now restart and your previous version of windows will be restored. "

No reason is given for the cancellation of the upgrade. I have, however, run the windows upgrade advisor, which has shown that my computer is fully compatible. All programs that it advised me to remove have been removed. I've also removed all external devices from my computer during the installation.

I fear i may have a corrupted installation file of some kind but am not sure of anything. I'd appreciate if anyone has any suggestions, or has been in this situation before and or knows what to do.

Raid 0 Does Not Recognize Raid Array

I have a build with 7 ultimate running swimmingly for months with 2 single 1tb 7200 disks and one 128 gb ssd single. Yesterday, i successfully created a raid 0 array of 4x 60 gb ocz ssds in the gigabyte phoenix bios but they are not recognized as a usable array by 7ult. 7ult recognizes them  as an array in devices , everest recognizes them but after booting off the 128gb ssd they are not recognized in 'my computer", are not accessible, and generally are sitting there pretty, but useless.

My idea was to clone the 128 ssd to the array with acronis or paragon and use it as a super fast boot array? Any thoughts. Windows 7 ultimate and raid 0 setup after initial setup. 7 does not recognize raid array.

Upgrade On System With Raid 1 Drive System

What is the best way to upgrade a critical system with windows vista home premium running with two hd's in raid 1, to windows 7? I would prefer to do an in place upgrade, so that i would not have to reinstall applications or data files. One way that occurred to me, would be to disconnect one the hd's during the upgrade. If everything went well, i could reconnect the other drive (or better yet, a new clean drive), which would then be automatically mirrored by the hd controller. Has anyone successfully done this?

Chronic Raid 0 Error Messages In Bios / Matrix Storage Console

Chronic raid 0 error messages in bios and in intel matrix storage console. I have had several dell xps computers with raid 0 where within a few weeks or a few months during bootup i get an "error occurred (0)" message regarding one of the two disks under the "physical disks" heading on the screen where it reports on the raid drive. Fter the computer has booted intel matrix storage console gives the message for one of the drives "hard drive reports read or write to it failed"  (says backup may still be possible and to back up immediately because the drive is about to fail).

Dell tech support always says that the problem is either the disk controller on the motherboard (studio xps) or a hard disk problem. Several times they have replaced the motherboard and disk drives or the whole computer. But then within six months the same error message occurs. This time i got a blue screen before the message occurred , but  the computer rebooted ok except it gave the same error message as noted above on bootup and the same message in intel matrix storage console.

I have never had any of the computers fail to boot after giving the error messages, or have any symptom except the error message. It seems obvious that there couldn't have been a problem with that many hard disks, and dell does not acknowledge knowing about any design defect in the raid controller. (The exact same messages occurred with 100 percent different computers).

I wonder if there is not a software problem causing the error message and that there is really no hardware problem. I wonder what i should do when the warranty is up. Throw the computer away?  Live with the error message on the assumption that it doesn't mean anything? If it is some kind of software problem could that still cause the computer not to work?

Failed To Delete Port Error 1722

I have two printers which worked perfectly for months in 64 bit windows 7 ultimate. Then i noticed a  rpc server is unavailable error message (it only appeared during one windows 7 start) . The next time i turned the machine on both printers showed yellow exclamation marks with a result of no drivers. The  hp deskjet 990cxi uses a driver that is already in 64 bit windows and this always fails to install. I download the brother label printer driver a couple of times and when installing that driver get the failed to delete port error.

I checked the 3 rpc statements in services and all are automatic. I have looked for extra copies of spoolsv.exe and only found extra with exactly the same size as the one in system32 and when i replaced the one in system32 with it there was no change. Also spoolss.dll is present in system32. I downloaded another copy of that from the net and installed it and there was no change. The malignant software scanner reported nothing and i have avg running all the time without any message.

First: control panel - not using classic display

2. Click performance and maintenance

3. Administrative tools

4. Click local security policy

5. Then click software restriction policies.

6. When i did this there weren't any set. So you have to click action tab to create them. When you do so click onto enforcement.

7. Then select all users except administrator.
