Always Available Offline Not Available For Network Folders

I have a netgear stora nas. All is well with my network access to the device, but windows 7 will not index any of the folders. Right clicking on the folder does not give me the "always available offline" option. All help topics say that i need to have the folders available offline in order to do the indexing.

Offline Folders

I have a general question having to do with offline folders. If you have offline folders and say someone then on the server moves some files into a subfolder. When you resync back up how is that handled? Are the files deleted and the copied on your offline folder cache or are they moved? And what happens if you happened to make a change to a file, but it's been moved on the server? I've been looking, but can't find any documentation as to what happens when. Can somebody please help me out?

After Remote Login, Network Printers Go Offline

In windows vista, whenever i would remote login to my home pc, my default printer (which happened to be a network shared printer off my server) would clear its default setting. That was annoying but easily fixable. I've since upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and i'm having a related problem. Now whenever i login remotely to my home pc, my default printer (same network shared printer - hp lj 4000) goes offline, and it only comes back online after a reboot.

This is a huge pain point for me because i typically have 20+ windows/applications running at any given time and a reboot takes 30 minutes out of my day to get me back to where i was.

Network Printer Shows As Offline When Its Online

Network printer shows as offline when it's online at its locally connected computer. Printer is laserjet 4000 attached through a usb port. Printer driver is hp universal printing pcl 5 (v5. 1).computer which has printer connected locally is windows 7 professional 32 bit.computer which has printer showing as offline is windows 7 professional 64 bit. Fter acquiring and implementing 64-bit printer driver everything works well for about 24 hours, then printer shows as offline. Trouble shooting says set printer to default printer - no change in status. Unlike vista, there doesn't appear to be any way to set the printer status as online.

Printer Offline

New laptop with windows 7 - initially no issues with pairing to wireless internet and printer hp photosmart premium c309g-m until i bought home work laptop also with windows 7. Needed to use wireless printer and to connect temporarily to internet this system forced me to setup network group (not being completely sure what i was doing but thought i was doing no harm).

Thats when the problems started, this disabled our home laptop computer which before this was wirelessly connected to the printer and internet it stopped printing or connecting to internet even after joining the network group (for home computer with correct pass words etc) many many hours waisted, eventually got connection back to internet by restoring to a previous date.

I then deleted the  network groups, the printer shows as default in devices and printers but when fails to print saying it is offline, i have tried deleting printer and searching for bluetooth from both laptop and from the printer end a well (none detected).

No Offline Files

I have a user that has offline files enabled and syncing. When she takes her laptop out of the office, she can login and see her files, work with them and return to the office an sync the changes. Now for the problem, if she wants to connect to say a hotel wi-fi, she can do so, but after logging in she doesn't have her offline files. It appears that windows 7 creates a new profile for her. She is using her domain login credentials and does not change to (this computer) when she is connected elsewhere.

Offline File Synchronisation

As an experienced xp pro user, i am somewhat surprised at what appears to be limitations associated with win 7 offline file synchronization process in xp pro files would sync on log on, log off and as frequently in between as you established. However in win 7 it appears to only sync on log on [and as timed in between] but not on log off - am i correct?

If so am i also correct that there is a strong potential of losing recently updated network files that when you log off [ie after the last timed sync] and as such are not on the remote/network pc/laptop. Has anyone encountered this problem and more importantly identified a way of resolving it please.

Offline Files Problem

i have a network with:

Desktop - win 7 ultimate
Dell laptop - win 7 pro
Sony laptop - win 7 home premium
Netgear readynas duo

I have tested the "always available offline" function on the desktop and dell laptop and it works fine with files on the nas. However on the sony laptop the right-click option "always available offline" does not appear. I can find the sync center in the control panel, but when i go to "set up new sync partnerships" it says " there are no new sync partnerships that can be set up on this computer". Also the "manage offline files" link doesn't work.

Can anyone help me enable this? I'm assuming that this function is available on home premium as there is an entry in the control panel.

Offline Files Problems

I'm having all kinds of problems trying to get offline files to cooperate with me. This is the first windows 7 machine we have on the domain. We have been running xp with offline files successfully for several years. Some info about the setup:

The machine is connected to our domain (2003 level). H: is mapped to the users' home directory on our file server (2003 server r2). The mapping is done through the profile tab for the user in active directory. "Documents" and "desktop" are redirected to h:documents and h:desktop via group policy.

According to windows explorer, both documents and desktop have offline files enabled (i believe this is by default when using folder redirection). If i'm online, i can force a sync by right-clicking each folder and selecting "synchronize selected offline files" (i'm on swedish win7, so it might not say exactly that). However, if i go into the synchronization center and hit synchronize, nothing happens. The status just reads "waiting for synchronization". No error messages, no event log messages, nothing.

Another issue i'm having is that if i pull the network cable, the folders go offline and i can continue to work on documents as well as save new ones, but when i reconnect the network cable, it doesn't go online again. Even logging out and in again doesn't help. In order to get back online, i need to restart the computer. And even then, when i login, it won't synchronize automatically. I still have to force the sync by right-clicking each folder and hitting synchronize.

It should be noted that after re-connecting the network cable, it appears the computer doesn't even have connectivity with our domain. For example, running gpupdate results in an error about not being able to contact the domain controller. What's up with that?

Offline Files Lost

I have map network drive on my computer. Which is connected to a data folder on an other computer in my small office network. I hade activated the service "enable offline files".

Today when i loged on sync process started. When it was in process i disabled the function  "enable offline files". Sync was stoped. But some files from that folder on another computer are now missing. Now from where i can find those files.

Perhaps when sync was in progress i disabled the offline files and the files from my computer could not be copied to that network computer. Please tell from where now i can restore those files. They are five files which are missing.

I am much worried. I dil not know that how offline files work so i did by mistake. But that data in those files was very important. That contains record of my company for many years.

Oki Laser Printer Offline Error

I'm using windows 7 64bit edition and an oki c5150n laser printer and have downloaded the latest drivers from the website. It always says the printer is offline, and when i uncheck the "use printer offline" mode, anytime i try and print it gives an error, which troubleshoot "fixes" by turning the printer to offline mode and the file i sent to print still does nothing. I have checked the cords, rebooted the printer and computer, as well as using "remove device". Any ideas would be appreciated

Saving Offline Files To A Seperate Partition

When i installed win7 on my vaio i created a separate partition for my data (d:) & reserved the smaller (40gb) c: partition for system files. When i activate offline files, it quickly fills the c partition as it is storing these offline files in the csc folder.

I followed all the advice i received in the folowing thread:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/6af0cf60-84f6-4e48-b0a1-2780a5fd7b7a
Without success. Apparently i'm not the only one having this probem. It still tells me that 'access is denied' when trying to delete csc folder.

Dell Printer Goes Offline After Shut Down / Restart

I have a netgear 802. 11g wireless router with an hp 6840 printer & a dell mfp 1600n printer attached via ethernet cables. My various macintosh, windows xp and vista computers have been printing to these printers via wireless connections without problems for the last several years.

I got a new lenovo t410 notebook, with windows 7, in january 2010. I can install both remote printers on this system, and then print to them via the wireless router. However, when i shut-down or restart the t410, the 1600n printer shows up as "offline". I must then "remove" this printer, and re-install it (via "add printer") on the t410. It seems to lack "persistence" across a system restart with the windows 7 system. The hp printer works fine, showing "ready" status after a restart. Both printers work fineafter shut-downs and restarts on the mac, xp and vista systems. I use a static ip address for the 1600n, and have the latest windows 7 driver from dell.

One other piece of data: during the "add printer" process, the hp printer is automatically discovered, i select it, and then add it. The dell printer is not discovered, and i have to add it as a tcp/ip address, "generic device", of type "dell network printer", then specifically "dell mfp laser 1600n". Any ideas would be appreciated - lenovo and delltech support refuse to help troubleshoot- both say it is a microsoft problem.

Canon Mf4370dn Laser Printer Keeps Showing Up As "offline"

I just bought a new canon mf4370dn laser printer and followed the instructions that came with the printer for setting it up to print via the network. The printer printed the test page, but keeps showing up as "offline" and i can't print anything at all. I have a toshiba laptop that has windows 7 on it (not sure if that's relevant).

I have very little knowledge of how networks work or how to set such things up properly, but i followed the instructions in the 'starter guide' that came with the printer. The printer is plugged in and turned on, however keeps showing up as "offline" when i look at the printer queue.

Files And Folders

I installed window 7 last october. Running windows 7 home premium. Really love it. Recently, i went to access some old saved email messages i have saved in a folder, in my documents. When i go to open up (any) file that is a . Eml file from my documents, an outlook 'new message' window opens with a shortcut link at the top of my new message of that file. I click to open it and nothing happens. I try right-clicking the file within my documents folder using 'open with. ' and a window opens with the only option to select or recommended programs is internet explorer.

I tried using this option and the same occurs, outlook new message opens up with the icon shortcut. I try right-clicking /open with/ and browse and ( this is where i think i went wrong!) I browse and select microsoft office/office12/and select the outlook icon for the outlook application, click save. Then the window of 'open with' choose the program you want to use to open this file: and i select microsoft office outlook, the 'ok" with the same result - - - an new outlook message with the shortcut appears and i am back in that same loop with a file i cannot open.

I only have hundred of these . Eml files that i now cannot access. Please someone help me with the solution to what (i am sure) is an easy, but unknown resolution to my issue!

Getting Access To Folders

I recently upgraded to windows 7 ultimate and i am running into problems. I had to remove my blackberry desktop program and reinstall it. Upon reinstall i get an error 1303 that i need administrator right to the file folder that i am extracting files to.

I not sure why, as the administrator on my laptop, i have to give myself admin right again but i did. I still cannot download the files. I logged into the administrator profile and i am still having the same issue. I cannot get full access of certain folders that i had access to in vista and i need to understand how to fix.

Cannot Create Folders

I am running windows 7 on a brand new lenovo lap top. It is a new environment all around. I found one glitch in the windows explorer application. I created a sub-directory in the documents library and named it michigan. The whole path is c:usersmikemcbdocumentscustomersmichigan. I have done the same for folder for indiana, illinois, and kentucky etc. Etc. With no issues. But the one i created and named michigan (not the first one i created either) i cannot add sub-directories to it, or when i try to copy and paste a sub-directory, the files go in but not the directory.

Across the top of the all the other directories there is an option for "new folder" but not in the one i named michigan. I don’t want to delete and rename the file as i have a spreadsheet that has many hyperlinks pointing to many word documents in the michigan folder. I can do all of this with success from the command line (dos prompt) but when i go back to windows explorer, the new directories/files do not appear there. Have you seen this before? Is there a fix?

Mcx1 Folders

On my w7 pro box i have several folders such as these.

Users/mcx1-mycomputername
Users/mcx1-mycomputername. Mycomputername

As i understand they have to do with windows media center extensions. I did have to reinstall the xbox360 extender a couple of times and i am thinking this is where the multiple folders came from. I would rather not have all these extraneous folders clogging up my drive but simply deleting them does not work. I get an error message that they are all in use. Can someone please tell me how to clear this up so that i only have the folders actually required to use wmc?

Customization Of Folders

I have a rather random bit of an annoying bug that only shows up sporadically. At times, after i've gone and set up the folders and file icons to display the way that i want, and "apply to all folders, " they will decide to set back to the default view, with no input on my part nor any other active running program. Even more baffling is the fact that it doesn't always apply to the same folders, sometimes folders within folders will still be in the view mode that i had applied, while other folders within the same folder will have set back to default. Granted, it's a small-ish bug, but for me, it's annoying none-the-less as this is the only actual issue i've had with windows 7 in almost a years time of use.

Deleting Old Folders

I need to delete some old windows folders after switching my drives around. When i used "disk cleanup" i was able to get rid of one old installation, but i had another that i had previously partially deleted manually file by file. It left a bunch of empty folders that i am unable to change the attributes from "read only" even though i am the administrator and the only user on my computer.

When i try to delete them they say i need permission from system to delete them, well how do i get that permission? I am at wits end on this and short of backing up the drive and reformatting then doing a selective restore i don't know what else to do and if it wasn't a nearly full terrabyte drive i would do just that.

Folders Are Read Only

I am currently working on a musical project which has a severe deadline and many people are counting on me to complete this. My career is in the balance at this very moment! I recently purchased windows 7 and am trying to continue my work using ableton live 7. Windows 7 will not let me use my vst instruments as ableton needs a writable directory for them and, no matter what i do, (i have tried unticking "read only"

- To find it resets automatically, i have used the cmd prompts, i have checked all permissions, i am logged in as administrator, i have tried running in safe mode. ) It still says that the directory i am trying to use is "read only".

If i cannot complete this project, my reputation is utterly ruined and i am going to lose all the good will which i have built up over the past year. Essentially, due to this problem with windows 7, my career is finished. Please can you provide with a solution as this is extremely urgent!

Public Folders

I have windows 7 and a few days ago had a problem with not being able to exit a program. When all else failed, i simply did a soft shut-down from the start menu. When i turned it on again, all my files were missing. I thought i had lost everything but when i restarted, everything came back. I'm suspecting that the system started up and somehow i was in the public folder 'profile'? How did i get there? And how to set up a profile for someone to view only public folders on my desktop?
