God Mode

I got an information from one web site about windows 7 god mode.

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "godmode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder. By creating a new folder in windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

The trick is also said to work in windows vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.
To enter "godmode, " one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
Godmode. {Ed7ba470-8e54-465e-825c-99712043e01c}

Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing god, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls. Can anyone please give some more details about this. Because i couldn't see microsoft say this as a feature. So is it safe to do?

Windows 7 Freeze In Normal Mode, Safe Mode Works Fine

I am out of ideas. Three days ago my computer started freezing within a few minutes after startup. Freezes with no mouse movement and no keyboard. Must shutdown using the power button. Happens every time i start in normal mode. Safe mode works fine. I have done quite a bit of reading and tried a number of things, so far to no avail. Quite a few error codes present, here are some:

Winlog 6000
Service 7001
Distrib 10005
Service 7026
Event log 1101
Kernel 41
Browser 8032
Load perf 3011
Load perf 3012

I have tried restoring, turning off all non-microsoft services, disabling sound, updating video driver, memory test, adjusting bios per g skill tech forum. All hardware showing normal operation in device manager.

I can't find the minidump .dmp folder in c:/windows. The only location i find for .dmp files is in the watchdog folder, and there are quite a few in there. Let me know if i need to upload them.

My computer is a couple of months old and has been working flawlessly until this happened with one exception. (I have been getting occasional monitor blanking for a couple of seconds followed by a notification that the graphics driver has stopped responding and was successfully restored. )

Xp Mode

Why can't microsoft assist with a windows 7 issue that has not been resolved in the three weeks since i installed the os? Microsoft support has not yet found a resolution to my efforts of getting xp mode to work on my computer.

1. I have installed windows 7 professional in 64 bit on a new 1tb hard drive.

2. Virtualization is turned on inbios.

3. I am running a 3. 22 intel cpu. My ram is 4gb.

4. I have downloaded, installed and uninstalled xp modeand windows virtual pc at least a dozen times over the past three weeks.

5. I am the administrator and only user of this machine.

Yet every time i attempt to install xp mode, i always get a pop-up window that says: "the virtual machine configuration could not be created. User does not have sufficient access right. " The windows 7 forums have not helped. Does anyone at microsoft have any ideas how to fix this program?

Everything else (except a few dated drivers) on windows 7 appears to be working perfectly.

Classic Mode

How do i run win7 in the far far superior classic mode. I despise the fluffy and glitzy 'look pretty' interface of vista and vista-ii (aka win7). W7 has a small handful of new features that are very nice, but the vast majority are just things that are for looks. All of these are things that i'd just as soon not have to look at. Alt-tab works just fine for me. I don't want pop ups all over the place when i hover over the task bar. I don't need any transparent thumbnail previews.

I really just want my os to be clean and simple to use like in classic mode. Just tell me how to set w7 back to the clean and simple classic mode that made my computer so easy to use please. Otherwise i see no real reason to justify spending $200 on yet another 'you gotta have this' piece of software that really only offers a small handful of features that i will use.

Virtual Xp Mode

I'm testing running the virtual xp mode machine off it's own nic instead of natting. First i installed via nat and all works well but when downloading on either machine, one slows. So i decided to install a separate nic, told the virtual machine that was it's connection, and now it's running off of it's own ip, etc. The problem now is that it seems to have slowed the opening of programs on the virtual machine. Are there other settings i'm not configuring to make the virtual machine respond like it's suppose to?

Xp Mode Problem

I bought windows 7 professional, because my kids have games that need xp to run. I dl'ed and installed xp mode and virtual pc, installed zoo tycoon 2 for my son and i'm getting a no video memory error message. If i'm getting this error message when trying to run zoo tycoon 2, how in the world am i going to be able to run autocad 2005? Did microsoft sell us a bunch of lies? After reading some interesting articles about xp mode i'm now discovering that my anti-virus doesn't even provide me any protection while in xp mode.

Can anyone out there provide me some real answers as to why i need xp mode and how i can get it to work?

Printing From Xp Mode

I have read many postings across the internet and the various microsoft offerings and none have solved the issue at hand.microsoft state that when an xp application is invoked seamlessly or xp mode is invoked i should be able to share the native printers that have been set up in windows 7.
This is not so.

It is not possible to "see" the native printers from with xp mode, nor is it possible for the invoked applications to print, nor is it possible to add a printer to the xp mode. I am running on a toshiba t130 which is equipped with a non hardware assisted virtualization processor. I have pressed ahead with the installation of windows 7 and the xp mode etc on advise from toshiba and microsoft. This now represents a significant investment of time and money bot of which are in short supply. Please do not now tell me that hav is essential - contrary to current documentation etc.

Questions :-
1. I have no tools tab on my installation of the xp mode within the virtual machine. Is this because there is no hav present on this machine? Obviously all the tutorials etc refer to this.
2. If this is the case please can someone direct me to correct document for the windows 7 virtual pc and xp mode where hav is not available. - I do not actually believe that any such documentation exists.

3. Please can some one explain how to add a printer to xp mode. I have been through a zillion forums where every one states this is as easy as falling off a log - but to my extreme frustration no one actually explains how this is done. Indeed at this time i do not believe that it can be achieved.

4. In the absence of any ability to print directly from applications invoked from the xp mode what alternative process is available.

Xp Mode Not Usable

I want to load and run old software which will run on my xp machine. I loaded w7-pro, then xp mode, and then w-virtual pc. Then i was informed via warning box that i needed, and don't have, a hardware visualization function on my cpu. No, not just bios, the hardware!  I just bought my computer saturday, a new asuz laptop with w7 installed right on it. Why do i now need to have hardware on my brand new computer, which i didn't know about before, just to run xp mode?  Is ms working on a solution that doesn't require additional hardware?

Xp Mode Too Slow

Recently i bought a new hp computer with dualcore processor and 5 gb of ram, 64 bit system, which came with windows 7 home edition, and i intend of using it with my mastercam x3 64-bit. My software is not compatible to windows 7, so i bought the upgrade to windows 7 pro to be able to use the virtual xp mode. The installation went smooth, but in virtual xp mode the mastercam runs unacceptable slow. I dedicated 3gb ram to the virtual xp with no success.

Mastercam dealer told me that is the computer not running fast enough because the program run much faster on a old regular xp machine. In fact the task manager in xp mode, shows me only one core processor (although the computer has dual core, which is visible in w7 task manager) which is used 100% anytime i do any small task in mastercam.

Has the virtual xp mode just an emergency use under w7 and is it known to be slower? Will i get better result from xp if i downgrade from windows 7 to xp pro?

Downloading Xp Mode

I am trying to download windows xp mode for windows 7 professional for a brand new laptop of my boss from my windows vista business machine. But it is unable to do so, as microsoft requires authentication. I am an it guy and i have registered his windows 7 on my email id. If microsoft needs, i can provide it. I cannot download windows xp mode in my office as it is 500 mb is size. Moreover, my boss is not having enough time to spare his laptop for downloading this software and thereby reducing the speed of internet at his own end for other activities like downloading emails on ms outlook, using video chats etc. Can anyone suggest what can be done?

Where Is Xp Mode Installed?

Windows 7 ultimate x64. I ran the installation for xp mode. At the end of the installation there was a check-box to run xp mode on exiting the installer. I unchecked as i had some other things to do. I am now trying to find how to start xp mode. There isn't anything on the start menu for xp mode so how do i start it the first time?

On a side note - why is the installation package so dumb about where to uncompress its files to?  The installation package was on an internal sata drive with almost 300 gb free in the partition. The c: drive is on a sata drive with 183 gb free in the partition. So where does the install uncompress to - to my x: drive which is an external usb drive. Needless to say the file copying was a bit long.

Protected Mode Off, But It Is On

I have a generic desktop i built myself. I have just gone from xp to windows 7. Ie 8 says down the bottom "protection mode: off" but it is on? This was a fresh custom install. Just to give you som idea of protection, i run norton's av 2010 ( just av not suite or 360) with zone alarm pro firewall and forcefield. My toshiba satellite pro l300 was an upgrade from vista, same protection programs, the only difference the laptop says "protection mode:on" in am cert.

3 microsoft vista configuration course accredited and even this has got me stumped. I have tried repair etc. I had ie8 when using xpand vista and it always and so does this come up when open, bottom left "with errors on page". Same protection on both pc and laptop prior to migration.

How Do I Install Xp Mode On 7?

I need to test a camera that only has xp drivers, but i have a 7 pro computer. So i decided to install the xp mode, but i am running into a problem.

I went to the microsoft website where the downloads are located (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx?Rungenuinecheck=true&system=4&lang=1&buttonclicked=winxpmode). It nicely lists the steps that are necessary. The first step (marked with download/install this first) makes me download a file called windowsactivationupdate.exe, and instructs me to install it and then click the "continue" button.

The program i downloaded is 156 kb, not the 500 mb that is mentioned on the website, and i suppose it is just a program to check the validity of my 7 installation. However, when i install it, nothing happens. I am left on the website with 2 options: download and cancel. Pressing download only downloads the .exe again (and starting it only tells me that it is already installed, pressing "cancel" gets me back to the original web page. I can click the "first step" again, and the while circle starts over.

Either i am doing something wrong (what?) Or the windowsactivationupdate.exe is supposed to do something that it is not. I don't see a new program icon or folder either after installing it, so i can't start anything manually.

How do i install the xp mode?

Cannot Get Xp Mode To Shared Printer

I have a dell precision 390 with 4 gig of memory. The printer is an hp 2300d, which is connected to the computer by usb. I am running windows 7 ultimate. I have set up the printer driver in xp mode as described in the "windows virtual pc evaluation guide". However, i cannot get the printer to work in both native windows 7 and xp mode at the same time.

In order to get the printer to work in xp mode, i have to "attach" it. When i do that, it no longer functions under the naive windows 7, until i release it from xp mode.

Win 7 To Look Like Classic Xp Mode

I want windows 7 (which i cannot stand) to look like windows classic in all areas especially the start menu like you can do with windows xp. You engineers just cannot leave a good product like xp alone! Oh no you have to keep adding and making things more confusing instead of leaving it alone! If it is not broke don't fix it! Everything is screwed up the start menu, networking, even trying to connect wireless!

Pci Modem In Xp Mode

I have an agere win modem (a pci card fax modem) in my computer, which windows 7 professional 64-bit has correctly recognized and successfully installed. However, the same can't be said within xp mode. If i install a standard 56k modem, it shows the modem as external and doesn't respond. If i use the driver for the modem that's correct for windows xp, i can make xp mode install it and identify it correctly, but then in modem properties, it's shown as "nonfunctional, " which it is.

Is it even possible to use an internal fax modem in xp mode? (I have an old fax program that i'd like to use, winfax basic edition 10, which is incompatible with windows 7 64-bit but appears to be compatible with xp mode. )

Lost Access To Xp Mode

I've been using windows 7 professional edition with xp-mode successfully for some months. I have several pc's at home and run mcafee on them. In the last few days mcafee seems to have updated it's software and come to the conclusion (wrongly) that i was using the software on one more pc than i had the license for. So, it removed the anti-virus sw from that pc - without warning. That was my xp-mode virtual machine. When i tried to reload the antivirus sw it hung.

I've rebooted but now i can't start the virtual machine - i get a message saying "could not enable integration features". If i continue without that (one of the options) it just gives a blank black window without all the icons for my xp programs. Any suggestions as to how i can regain access to xp-mode?

Password Issue With Xp Mode

At first xp mode automatically entered and processed the username and password in xp mode, then it started asking for my password, which was the same as used to logon to xp-7. Feeling that there was no need for a password to access xp mode i deactivated it not knowing that this would prevent me from loading and accessing xp mode. Short of uninstalling and reinstalling xp mode and any programs that run under it, is there anyway that i can reset the xp mode password from win-7?

Unable To Print In Xp Mode

I have a new dell 546 running windows 7 64 bit. After installing xp mode, i was unable to install my epson 825 printer software - error(not supported in nt). I was successful in installing the printer software under xp mode and the printer works. Later, i perused the epson site and found a windows 7 driver for the epson 825 and downloaded it. The printer was installed and works but the printer is known as an 825 (m). Under xp mode, the printer will not now print and , the epson 825 is set as the default printer. When i send a document to the printer, it looks as though the document is sent to the printer but the printer does not print. What gives?

Cannot Change Compatibility Mode

I am trying to run an application on a new windows 7 pc. It runs fine with no special settings on an identical windows 7 pc (same model number, same os, same updates to the os). But on the second machine windows will not allow me to change compatibility mode to windows 7. It insists on locking me into other compatibility modes and then greys out the selection to change it back to windows 7. Worse, every time i run the program i have to answer the nattering question "do you want the following application to make changes to this computer?" - Yes!  Whatever! Just leave me alone and run the application!

1) how do i stop this nattering and force windows 7 to leave me alone and run the application?

2) how do i switch compatibility mode back to windows 7 (or eliminate compatibility mode altogether) for this application?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application several times with no luck.

Xp Mode And Office Licensing

I am debating between intalling windows 7 with xp mode or downgrading to windows xp on a new computer. The issue is that i have one application that will not run in windows 7 (confirmed with manufacture). This application also uses plug-ins with microsoft office (word, excel and outlook). The plug-ins will not run in windows 7 either. So, i will need to run office in both windows 7 and xp mode. How does licensing work with office? Will i be able to have office applications available in both windows 7 and windows xp mode. Or will i need two office licenses?

Troubleshooting Sleep Mode

I have a brand new hp laptop w/fingerprint reader. It's has continually had a problem coming out of sleep mode. When i was using just a password it would always tell me my password was invalid, when i started using the fingerprint reader it always says it doesn't recognize the reader. I could do a hard reboot (disconnect power and remove battery) and it would cure the issue. This last time i did a hard reboot the computer started up, the screen flashed and went black and it will not and has not allowed me to do anything. Keyboard and mouse do not function, black screen. Lights on the keyboard come on and the fans work but that's it!

Xp Mode Hardware Virtualization

Is there a version of microsoft virtual pc that does not require hardware-virtualization? I have a brand new computer which does not support hardware-virtualization. All i had heard was that you needed to upgrade to windows 7 pro but when i go to run it i get the message about "needing hardware assisted virtualization". After doing some research i find out that this computer does not have the right processor. Can i just upgrade the processor to get this to work or does the motherboard come into play on this also?

Whatever happened to virtual pc 2007? That did not require hardware virtualization. Is there a more current version of that software. That is the last time i listen to the best buy guys led me wrong on that one. Now i am out the cost of the pro upgrade.
