Bios Boot Menu Goes To Starting Windows

I build a pc recently and bought windows 7 off of ebay. It was not opened and still had the plastic wrap around it. It came with a 64 bit and 32 bit home edition. When i installed win7 64 bit os on my pc, for some reason it installed as 32 bit. (I made absolutely sure that the cd read 64 bit and i reformatted 3 times to triple check {2 customs and 1 upgrade}). I talked to microsoft and they are trying to help me determine what the problem is.

My system is 64 bit compatible with:intel core i7-930 2. 8ghz lga 1366 130w quad-core desktop processor corsair dominator 6gb (3 x 2gb) 240-pin ddr3 sdram ddr3 1600 (pc3 12800) desktop memory xfx radeon hd 5770 (juniper xt) hd-577a-znfc video card gigabyte ga-x58a-ud3r atx intel motherboard me and the tech rep also ran windows 7 upgrade tool advisor to double check the my system was 64bit compatible, and the test showed that my system passed. So our next idea was to try the 32 bit disc to check if maybe the labels on the two discs were mixed up. When trying to boot the 32 bit disc, i hit f12 which takes me to the boot menu.

I select cdrom and when it asks for me to press a key to boot i do so. Once i pass this part it proceeds to "starting windows" and takes me to my login screen. I have tried using this disc on my laptop to see if maybe the disc was the problem but my laptop was able to start the setup. When trying to run the disc from my computer i receive the error:"the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.

Boot Problem - Win 7 Freezes At Starting

So i've been running win7 on my custom comp for several months now, with no problems whatsoever. But now it freezes every time i try to boot right around the starting windows animation pops up. Sorry i don't have many details atm but i'll try to get any you need. Also startup repair and disc repair attempts have been unsuccessful and i'd rather not reformat unless needed. Do you think this could be a virus? I'm baffled. Thanks, and i'll get any more info you guys need.

Bios Cannot See Any Devices To Boot

I performed a full hard disk encryption on my laptop using truecrypt. Now i cannot boot. Before i started i took the precaution to take a full image backup using norton ghost. I used the latest stable version - 6. 3a of truecrypt. I created a truecrypt rescue disk.

My hp laptop was running windows 7 ultimate (32-bit). The laptop contains 2 x 640 gigabyte hard disks from western digital - wd6400bevt blue scope 5400rpm - part number 591192-001 - model number wd6400bevt-60aort0. The system disk had 4 partitions before i started.

When i ran truecrypt i opted for: "encrpt the system partition or the entire system drive"; "standard truecrypt volume" i.e. No cascades; serpent encryption algorithm; the ripemd-160 hash algorithm; and 7 passes. The truecrypt program checked my parameter choices and did a test reboot without any error messages. The encryption process continued for 32 hours.

After the encryption finished with a "successful" message i was a little surprised that the program didn't suggest an immediate reboot. So i looked around on the disk. My file systems appeared normal. I was able to get into microsoft outlook and download new mail. I was able to browse my favorite sites on the internet. I was also able to look inside word documents.

So i decided to reboot. Since then i have not been able to get my system to run at all. I have had no luck using the truecrypt rescue disk; or a system recovery cd; or even the original windows 7 installation disk.

I get a black screen with a 4-5cm diameter blue disk displayed in the middle with the white letters, "hp". Down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen it says "press the esc key for startup menu". Pressing esc does nothing, unless you press it 8-10 times, when it causes a "beep" noise to sound.

The problem is that the insyde h20 bios supplied by hp is unable to communicate with either of the hard disks or the cd drive; or a usb thumb drive. The bios program does talk to the keyboard.

I have tried a strategy to reset the bios back to default. I removed the battery and power cord from my laptop. Then held down the power-up button for 15 seconds to ensure any residual power had drained. Then i plugged the power supply back in, and hit the power up key. I still get the black screen with the hp logo and the press esc message.

I tried powering up and pressing a range of function keys.
F1 gives me a , "f1.system information" message.
F2 gives me a , "f2. Startup check" message.
F9 gives me a , "f9. Change boot device order" message.
F10 gives me a , "f10. Bios setup options" message.
F11 gives me a , "f11.system recovery" message.
Esc gives me a , "esc. Pause startup" message.
. But none of these options actually work.

To me this indicates that the bios programme is working partially and able to intepret keystrokes from my keyboard. But nothing else happens other than the whirr of my fan, the led lights displaying normally around my keyboard and the sound of my dvd/cd drive spinning up, and then slowing down again. It appears that in order to bootstrap my hard disk or even bootstrap from a bootable cd the bios needs to talk to one of the (now encrypted) partitions on my system hard drive.

I have tried re-seating the hard drive cables and contacts, and even swapping the hard drives over. I've probably voided my warranty by unscrewing the covers off the underside of my laptop to access these hard drives. I don't have access to another laptop or desktop capable of mounting my western digital hard drives. So i haven't been able to try the option of decrypting my system hard drive by that method.

After post, i just get a black screen with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand of the screen. I have re-flashed the bios and have taken the cmos battery out for a few minutes. Bios Smart Error During Boot

First i want to be clear that there is nothing wrong with my drive physically and i am having no obvious software problems. The drive that is being effected is a new samsung f3 hdd. This problem doesn't occur under any circumstance not listed. In particular, this does not happen if i reboot from linux. This is also only referring to after i first noticed. Whether this has always (in the last month) been an issue or one that appeared within the last 2 weeks is unknown to me. Every time that i shut down windows 7, upon rebooting, immediately after post, but before grub loads (a boot loader) a list of hdd using ahci at the time is generated.

In addition to my new hard drive, i have an old seagate hdd and a newer samsung drive. Neither of these have ever given me problems aside from the excessive noise from the, presumably dying, sg drive. The error, which i cannot provide a screen shot of (for hopefully obvious reasons), is "s. M. R. T. Error" next too the serial number of the drive. Additionally my computer soft reboots shortly afterwards (a second or two), before grub loads. After going through post a second time, everything functions as if i had restarted from linux (meaning properly).

This happens consistently and without any other observable effects. I'm not sure what the proper term is for the list of smart information collected by a hard drive, so i will just call it the "smart log". The smart log shows absolutely no abnormalities. I have run benchmarks and self-tests, both read and write, and forced a check for bad blocks. There are no indications of a problem. When i reboot from linux, specifically ubuntu 9. 10 x64, i do not have this problem nor any other.

I also don't have any problems booting either operating system. While there are no obvious negative (nor positive) effects, it is extremely unnerving. Given that i spent money for this supposedly glorious operating system (windows, i didn't spend a dime on linux) i expect it to work at least as well as something that is free. After skipping over vista, i'm looking to switch back to windows, mostly because i'm getting tired of only being able to play old games that work in wine (compatibility layer for *nix systems which).

Having to listen to a error involving my hdd is very disturbing. I don't want to just hear "ignore it" or "it means nothing", i want an answer. What is causing this problem?[Edit]additionally, if you cannot answer this question, it would be helpful to know where else i can go.google wasn't of any help, and i'm unfamiliar with windows help forums.

[Edit2] it probably would be helpful for the reader to know that i installed this installation of windows 7 back in, i believe, in november without any noteworthy problems. I've used it off an on, but not that i have extra space to install things on (or so i think) i will be using it more.

Bios Boot Configuration Changes After Installing Win 7

I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and every since then. My bios boot configuration changes. I have a1tb hd and an external western digital book. The change will often change swap the wd book to the 1st configuration. This does not work because it does not have the operating system on it. Once it changed the 1st boot to be the cd-rom drive.

The first time, i called dell and they told me that windows 7 changes it and to press the f2-setup key and go into the bios and there is a f9 key to restore to defaults. I did that and f10 to save it. It worked great for a couple of days and then something changes it back after the computer is shut off overnight and i reboot the next day.

One thing i did notice is that when i go into the system configuration under tools in windows 7 . Under the "general" tab. The use "original boot configuration is checked. I don't know how that got checked off but it will not let me uncheck it. The other setting under this tab are "load selected items" and load system services. Those are checked. The load startup items shows blue but not checked. I don't know what that means.

I am trying to figure this out. All the post tests on the system pass. And it is a new system (less than 1 year old). It is a dell xps 435t. Dell did recommend that i update the bios with their file. And actually did that before upgrading to windows 7. I have the newest updates on the system in total.

Cannot Use Usb Keyboard In Boot Menu

Cannot use usb keyboard in "windows did not shut down properly" boot menu. Sometimes when windows tries to sleep, it cannot properly recover, or wake up. For instance, it goes to sleep, but then does nothing when i move the mouse or press keys. I've installed a hotfix for it and maybe it'll fix the problem, however, when i use the restart button to get out of this situation, a "windows did not shut down properly" menu comes up, with the option of selecting safe mode, etc.

In this menu, i cannot use my keyboard to select any options, i cannot press enter to select the default "start windows normally" option and usually have to wait for the timer to run down. I've only had this problem since switching to a usb keyboard from ps2. Furthermore, there seems to be no power to the keyboard, the caps-lock key doesn't turn a light on when pressed etc so that it seems like the keyboard is non-functional in this menu. I can enter the bios and work the bios with this keyboard indicating the problem may not be hardware.

Os Boot Menu Time Setting

I don't know what this black screen is called , but its the one, where  u can choose which operating system u want to use. For example if u installed windows 7 and windows vista and u open ur computer  it gives u a choice  to choose which windows u wanna use. Basically i installed windows 7 twice and  now i have to choose between windows 7 and windows 7 the first one is the working one, the second one not. But it takes 28 seconds to be chosen automatically. I was wondering if i can either decrease these 28 seconds to 1 second for example or just remove the second windows 7 to make it run with the first one automatically.

Repair Windows 7 Boot Menu On Uefi

I accidentally deleted the windows 7 boot entry in the windows boot manager. My laptop uses uefi instead of bios. The os is windows 7 64bit home premium. Here what i tried and its results: use startup repair: i tried to use startup repair from a windows 7 installation disk (actually, a usb). However, it said that the recovery options was not compatible. There are many causes as mentioned in causes of incompatibility and i was able to eliminate these:64-bit installation disk: checked windows 7 installer boot to uefi: don't know how to check cpu and os architecture are the same: processor (cpu?) Architecture is amd64, os is windows_nt (don't know if the same or not)
Many suggest to use startup repair but i don't know how to make this work.

Use bootrec following repair windows 8 efi bootloader: three commands finished successfully but i still doesn't see the windows 7 boot entry in the windows boot manager. Use diskpart: open diskpart from the command promt from the windows 7 installation usb. View full post.

When i bought the program, it said on the package that it operates on windows vista, xp, 2000, ect. I have other programs that say the same thing and they operate just fine. What can i do?

Trouble Starting Into Windows

I recently bought a computer from best buy and i have been using it for just over a month now. I left it on last night so it would finish doing what ever it was doing, and when i went to start using it today it was off for some reason, then when i turned it on, it said it hadn't shut down correctly, well i know that i wasn't doing anything so i just pressed start windows normally, it went and started fine up until the part where it has the windows logo and the bar scrolling below it. I tried to start it up a few times, then i remembered hp had their diagnostics program pre-installed on the computer.

When i went to use that, it said that every thing but the hard drives had passed, the hard drive gets to 50-something then fails the test. I tried starting into safemode, and it starts showing you all of the drivers, then it gets stuck on one of them, it was show-something or another. I have looked around and haven't found this to be a big issue, and i had current av software installed on there. Everything was up to date, i am really trying to avoid taking the computer back to best buy because they will want to charge me money to say something is wrong with the hard drives, because i already know that. So is there anything i can do to get this problem fixed or am i just going to have to take it in?

Have just moved a few pc's at home to windows 7 (one ultimate and the others home premium) and am having problems with startup programs not starting. The programs are all in msconfig as startup items but when i log in they don't start. All of the users are administrators but the only way to get them to start is via the start menu. When i do start them it comes up with the warning about do you want the following program make changes to your computer. Is there anyway to make these programs run at startup?

Stopping Programs From Starting

Can anyone tell me how to stop programs from starting up in windows 7? I know how to do it in vista, & microsoft support says to do it basically the same, but it does not seem to have the same options to choose as vista. Meaning: the "software explorer" does not appear when you get into the "tools" section of defender. I can't seem to bring software explorer up at all. I have tried typing it in the seach option of the start menu also. Please help. I don't want many programs slowing my computer.

Win 7 Suddenly Very Slow Starting Up

After about 9-months of basically normal operation, win 7 is suddenly taking 10- to 15- minutes to get up and running. At the same time this happened, norton security announced that its virus definitions had become corrupted, and i should download them fresh, through the upgrade function; i did that, and norton is running fine now, but windows continues to have the slow startup problem.

I should mention, from the beginning, when i first installed win 7 (over vista, ) win 7 has been unable to perform the system restore function. Several times i have tried to restore the system back a day or two, but it has always failed to complete successfully. When this slow startup problem began, i ran the startup repair program; it asked if i would like to restore the system to an earlier time, but it also failed to complete. Startup repair says simply, it cannot
Automatically do the repair.

One other thing: occasionally, at startup, i get a notice that says, "you may be using an unauthorized version of windows- click here to get the authentic version. " I've always ignored this message, because first, i don't see how i can have a bogus version of win 7, since i bought it it from a reputable store, and second, i'm concerned this message may be a scam of some sort, possibly malware that got installed on my pc, so i'm reluctant to click on it. Any ideas?

Programs Minimized Automatically After Starting

Shrinking programs. Virtually every program i open or download, minimizes itself to the taskbar after 1 or 2 seconds. The only way to continue install, or use, for example notepad, is to minimize every other open program. Then the one i need stays on desktop. I just had to re-format and everything is just about where i need it to be. I know i am not only person with this problem. Lots have same problem with games just stopping and going to taskbar (does not happen to me), and similar problem. Some have fixed it by taking out avg (don't have that). Wish i knew when or if i installed a prog that caused this mess.

Running win7 64bit (doesn't help) home prem.amd phenom2 x4 9404gb dual channel g_skill9800 nvidia gt 9800(it's really hard to minimize everything to look at cpu-z to see what i have)i had the below installed before prob started. I know what your thinking. Yeah, i've been burned. Ok, i'm paranoid. I also run online scanners when i have no other life. Norton suite, free from comcast threat fire super anti spyware microsoft security essentials. The ms essentials is latest and free.

Recommendations i've done the intermediate knowledge thing, i think it's a ms issue, but? Even uninstalled some nothing program recommended by a frenchman. Actually helped for day or two. Please, if u know anything, i'll send you, uh, something. 'puter useless at this point.

Dvd Hangs After Loading Files And Starting Windows

Install of windows 7 h. P from dvd hangs after "loading files" and "starting windows"; just have mouse icon on black screen. I am trying to do a clean install of win7 home premium off of 32bit dvd.
Pc is 1gb ram athlon 1700xp zotac nvidia 6200 agp graphics card on a pcchips m810l mb with a 20gb primary hard drive 3gb secondary and lg dvdrom drive. My current operating system is win2k which is why i need to do a clean install from dvd as you cannot run setup from win2k.

First problem was "cannot boot from cd code 5" which i overcame by using "ultimateboot cd" which then allows win7 dvd to load. Now the problem is hang/stall. Win 7 sequence (all on black background) is "loading files" then "windows starting" with the 4 colours to make the flag then check of hard disk then nothing with large mouse icon in the middle of the screen. Cant move mouse and no keys work; left for an hour and no joy, just in case its slow.

I am running graphics through the vga adaptor and also have disabled floppy drive which i have seen as solutions to this elsewhere. Have unplugged all usb devices. Harddisk currently has win2k on it which i expect to reformat when i get that far. Do i need to format it primary disk so its empty first? Secondary disk has all my saved data on it to copy back later (also on flash drive; belt n braces.

Desktop Icons Flicker On Starting Ms Office Application

This is not a huge problem, it is just irritating, but i would like to know the answer to it if possible. I am running windows 7 home premium on a new pc and after running up my pc, the first time i start an ms office 2010 application the desktop icons flicker or turn white and then re-establish themselves in a second or two; working isn't affected and the shortcuts still work. This only happens the first time you start any one of the ms office 2010 applications; word; xl; powerpoint, or publisher.

Once any one of those applications has been run, for example word, it doesn't happen again when you start another ms office application, for example xl. This doesn't happen when i start any of my other installed software applications, only the ms office 2010 ones. I upgraded to 2010 from 2007 trial version which was pre-installed on the pc and don't recall it happening when i was running the earlier version, could it be something to do with having upgraded to 2010?

Dual Boot - Move Boot Image To Second Drive

I have a problem with two different drives both running win7, one 32 the other drive64, on a dual boot system. I want to pull the win32 drive, but it also has my boot information for the win64 drive. I booted from the win764 install dvd, and went to there pair your computer. The placethat displays the operating systems installed, none will show. I have tried bootsect from the command prompt. It seems to work, but tells me no partition on the second drive. Or on another attribute used, it can not find the path to the drive. I have tried rebuild bcd, fixmbr, etc.
