No Sound Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I have this weird problem i have never seen before. I can't get the realtek drivers to install in win 7 pro 64 bit. I am using a evga x58 classified i7 920. I have loaded drivers from evga, realtek, and the software will install but the driver wont. I have tried to install as a admin and have used every os compatibility option to install the drivers and have had no success. And yes the on board audio is enabled in the bios. So if anyone can help me i will be very grateful. I have been building pc's for ten year now and have never seen anything like this.

Visual Studio 2005 Pro Compatibility With Win 7 Pro 64-bit

Can i use visual studio 2005 pro on windows 7 pro 64 bit? I use visual studio 2005 pro on xp pro 32 bit. Can i use it on windows 7 pro 64 bit?I have looked on the vs site and could not find a definitive answer to using this version on my new os. I know, they're putting visual studio 2010 et al. I do not have the kind of cash they're trying to get from me. T least, if i can use it, i can do some self made/self-used projects. I will download the free development systems. But, they run out after 60-90 days. I still need to get ms office standard 2007/10.

Sound Problem With 32-bit Programs On Win 7 64-bit

64bit windows 7 rc, getting sound in 64bit programs, but not from 32 bit programs. About two weeks agoi had started my computer, there were windows updates that had installed the previous night. All seemed fine, but then when i went to go play a computer game, it comes to find out there is no sound from the game. After troubleshooting the game, i determined it wasn't the game that was the problem.

When i go to the directx diagnostic tool, and go to sound the tab, there is no sound card/driver, listed. Tells me to go and install one. But! When i run the 64bit version of dxdiag it actually picks up my sound card and drivers, and tells me everything is ok, no problems detected.

So i go and check to see exactly what was updated in the "review your update history" section in windows update, and all that was updated were "definitions update for windows defender. " So i go and do a system restore, and revert my computer to a time that was two weeks ago, assuming it would fix the problem. It didn't.

I still get sound through windows and internet explorer, just no sound when i play any game or other 32 bit application. I have a amd motherboard with realtek hd audio onboard audio card. I updated drivers through windows, no fix. I went to realtek's website, downloaded the drivers, used those to uninstall the old drivers and reinstall the new ones, no fix. I manually unstalled the old realtek drivers, and installed the new ones i downloaded from realtek's website, the problem persists.

So the conclusion i have come to is that i have a problem with directx11 itself, that it just wont recognize my 32bit side of the realtek drivers, and only the 64bit, i have searched for a directx 11 download, but can't seem to find one. So if anyone knows where i can download the directx 11 (i already tried getting it off my windows 7 rc cd, didn't work) or has any other ideas about my problem and how i can fix it.

Macbook Pro Sound Driver Issues

I own a macbook pro, one of the new 15 inch unibody models, and since installing windows 7, i have not been able to properly use the onboard microphone (in windows) and the sound has been acting quite odd.

The osx installation cd included with my computer is supposed to install the required drivers on the windows side, and it seems to have done that, for the most part, except i could not use the microphone in a multitude of applications. The 'sound' control panel recognizes the microphone, and shows that the microphone is receiving sound. The little green level bar next to "microphone" moves when i make noise, yet no application seems to get any sound from it.

After a little research, i gathered that the sound card in these is actually a realtek hd card, and not a cirrus logic card, which is what i had drivers for. So i tracked down the realtek driver i thought i needed, uninstalled the cirrus logic driver, and installed the realtek one. However, that realtek driver did not seem to do anything, as the driver is now just listed as high definition audio device, which is the standard windows driver.

Other issues i've been having with the cirrus logic driver - once i plug headphones in, i can't get sound out of the laptop speakers again unless i restart windows. Also, if itunes is playing, the sound in all other programs in gone and doesn't come back unless i restart the program.

I guess i need to know if a) i'm correct about the realtek driver being the right one, b) the cirrus driver is actually correct and there's another solution to the microphone and other problems or c) there is no hope.

Realtek - I Get No Sound After Win 7 Pro Install

I installed windows 7 pro 64 bit on my toshiba notebook replacing wndows 7 rc. I left rc on the system and can still boot to it. I get no sound from any source for both speakers and headphones. I have tried the driver that came with windows 7, the realtek driver from their site, and the realtek driver from toshiba. I have checked all of the various settings and everything is enabled and working properly except there is no sound. When i click the sound button on the taskbar, select playback devices, select speakers, advanced, and test, i get the message "failed to play test tone. " Device manager says everything is working ok. Using sound from control panel and selecting sounds and any sound from the list and test gets no sound but no error message. Playing an audio cd opens media player but will not play the tracks. It just goes into a loop with no error message. When i select a library music file with media player and then select a title the message "windows media player encountered a problem while playing the title" appears.

When i boot from windows 7 rc everything works perfectly. This eliminates a hardware problem. The driver in rc is the original release version, 4/9/2009. I installed windows 7 pro on my desktop and it works fine. This is the only major problem with 7. It is a shame to waste 2 days already on this.

Win 7 Pro 64-bit Printing Is Not Available

I have seen numerous topics on her about windows 7 64-bit printing issues. Here is my case and i have not seen another like it. 1st - please be aware that this is in a corporate environment, 2nd - i have domain administrator rights across the entire domain. We have numerous printers in our domain and i generally use 5 of them. The printers that i am connecting to are attached to a windows server 2003 32-bit box and all printers have the x64 drivers enabled from the mfg on the server. I am running windows 7 pro 64-bit and am attached to the network via cable. I can browse for the printer and have it successfully add, and print a test page from windows. But when i am using applications like ie8, office, adobe reader, etc. I cant print. The specific error that i am getting is "printing is not available. There are no printers installed. You can select and configure a printer in windows control panel. "

I can tell you that i cant print to anything that is listed in my devices and printers, including the xps document writer from microsoft. This only occured once i installed office 2010 beta, and dropped back to office 2007 std. I have removed the printers and removed all drivers from c:windowssystem32spoolx643 and re-added the printers with the up to date drivers without luck. Anyone have an idea on this one?

Webcam Nx Pro With Win 7 64-bit

I know that creative won't make available drivers for its webcamnx pro (for windows 7 32/64). My question is: doesn't exist some driver, of another device, that can be used for that webcam to work under windows 7 64 bits? The webcam nx pro, from creative labs, is a very popular wecam, and a very good device too. Windows 7 is an amazing os, so. It would be great if they could work together. What can be do? Find a compatible driver? Write an independent driver? To press creative labs to create the drivers?

Microsoft Office Pro What Version 64-bit?

I am upgrading to window 7. I just got my computer back from hp repair. Due to the repairs all of the software applications had been removed. The computer came with vista and a free upgrade from hp. I just upgraded to windows 7. Now i need to download my application software and i am starting with my microsoft office professional. I tried to go on the compatibility checker to make sure that the microsoft professional 2007 is compatible.

In checking, the microsoft website says that office professional version 12 is compatible with my 64 bit system. Where do i find my version? I have the original packaging from the store but cannot seem to find the version. How can i make sure it is compatible with a 64 bit system?

Win 7 Pro 64-bit - Random Freeze

I used windows 7 rc 32 bit before this, it worked like a charm. Now, i installed windows 7 pro 64 bit, it works for a couple of weeks smoothly.

Today, i did a few things:

1) installed thunderbird
2) installed a huawei e160g wireless broadband modem
3) changed my dns to 8. 8. 8. 8 and 8. 8. 4. 4
It froze a few times already, and this is what i recall:
1) firefox was open in all cases
2) the modem was being used in all cases
3) thunderbird was uninstalled, still happening.
However, it cant be firefox, i have been using it for weeks.

I just tried uninstalling the modem, smooth so far, but i cant be sure yet. I want to ask: has anyone else had problems with modems or their drivers/programs?

Cannot Install Xp Mode On Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I am running a legitimate, activated copy of windows 7 pro 64 bit with the latest windows updates applied on a fairly new system. I am needing to install xp mode http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx however i can't get past the activation problem. I select professional 64 bit, english and click on the first button to download xp mode. It requires me to download and run the windows validation components first, but after downloading and running these the message is that they are already installed. They don't get as far a running. How do i actually get the system validated? There's no error other than "windows activation is already installed" and then the installation stops.

Cd/dvd Driver Issues - Win7 64-bit Pro Install

Cd/dvd driver issues in the beginning of windows 7 64-bit pro install. Installer will not let me move on until i find a driver for my dvd drive. The only drivers i can get to show up on the list are 64-bit drivers.

I'm upgrading from 32-bit so it won't let me use my vista cdrom drivers.
I have a sony optiarc rw ad-7170s firmware 1. 03 dvd drive
I created the bootable iso myself because of the issue with the digitalriver install
I burned the iso on 2 discs at 2 differnt speeds, didn't fix it.
Dvd is plugged into a sataraid pci card.

I'm almost sure it'll let me through if i can get my hands on the basic 64-bit cdrom drivers. I can't even find them online though.

Duplicate Program File Folders On Win 7 Pro 64-bit

I clean installed win7 pro 64 bit os from win7 pro 32 bit on my laptop and duplicate program files folders (with and without x86 designation) have been created. The duplicated files are windows programs, internet explorer, windows defender, windows mail, windows media player, windows nt, windows photo viewer, windows portable devices and windows sidebar. Does this mean that these duplicate windows apps are needed for 32 bit and 64 bit software to be able to work with that type of software respectively? Do i really need a 32 bit and 64 bit versions of internet explorer, windows defender, mail, media player, nt, photo viewer, portable devices and sidebar?

It would have been nicer just to have one set of these windows applications that works with both 32 bit and 64 bit software. These windows applications use a lot of hdd real estate. It would also be good to be able to have the option of uninstalling one of the duplicate sets. Is the ability to do just that available now?

No Sound Randomly Win 7 64-bit

I have no audio in my computer. No sound from anywhere let it be winamp, windows media player, youtube, system sounds, etc.

-Sound is not muted.
-Rebooting has not fixed the issue.
-I installed and reinstalled the realtek hd audio driver.
-System restore didn't fix the problem.

There was an error screen one time when i tried shutting down my computer, but it disappeared before i could see what it said and on the next boot up, there was no sound.

Everything in the computer says that the driver and sound is working. When i try to configure the speakers, it just says "failed to play test tone. "

Someone told me to enter the bios to check for audio. Not too sure how to enter it. When i press f2 to attempt to enter the bios, it just takes me to setup and there is no option to check for audio devices or anything. It just tells me things about booting up.

I have a sony vgn-fw510f/b. Realtek soundcard.

I have tried upgrading the sound card, but have had no success. Any help is appreciated.

No Sound Dell Studio 1557 64-bit

No sounds on windows 7. I have a dell studio 1557 (64-bit) with windows 7 installed when i bought it last november. I used it without any problems until about february, when suddenly sound started not to work at all. Troubleshooting couldn't identify the problem but running even a simple program (such as sound recorder or playing a wmv file using windows player) wouldn't work. I tried system restore as a last resort and it fixed the problem. For a while. It reappeared again after some time, and i fixed it again that way, and again and again. So i am wondering if this has any easy fix, and whether any programs might have compatibility issues and cause this?

Intel D955xbk Sound Driver For 64-bit

Ive recently re-installed windows 7 64-bit on my home computer which i use as a media center. Im having a problem with the drivers from intels site for the on-board sound for the d955xbk motherboard. I have to use the vista 64-bit driver and then specifically add the driver via the device drivers update section. The problem is that this all works fine until i exit media center then try and reload it. It hangs on a black blank screen as if media center is trying to process something but it never does.

When i try to force a shut down it then hangs on playing windows shut down sound. It seems the sound driver is reverting back to an old installed driver each time i shut media center down. So i have to go into device manger uninstall the present driver (ticking the completely remove the driver) then go through the install as above for the vista 64-bit driver. This is all getting a pain unistalled the sound driver all the time. Any help people or do i need to face that my motherboard is not supported by windows 7 64-bit drivers?

I would like to set up a dual boot on my computer. I currently have 2 internal hard drives installed. I would like to have the current c: drive continue to run xp and the second hard drive (d:) run win 7.

Questions:

1. Do i need to buy a full version of win 7 pro or can i buy the upgrade?
2. Is this the best way to run the dual boot on the 2 hard drives? I realize that win 7 pro does have an xp mode, but i would rather keep my current xp running as is.

Win 7 64-bit Doesn't Distinguish Between Ie8 64-bit And Ie8 32-bit

Windows 7 64bit doesn't distinguish between ie8 64 bit and ie8 32 bit when attempting to set a default browser using the control panel default programs 'associate' utility. My new windows 7 64 bit pc (luv that i7 920 intel cpu) came installed with both ie8-64 bit and ie8-32 bit (nothing more need be said regarding the absurdity of having to deal with this in the first place - i should have gone with the imac).

Anyway, ie64 bit lacks the flash player cuz adobe hasn't released a 64 bit version yet, per their website. So i can't use ie64 with xm online music stream (et al). Ie32, on the other hand, supports flash player, but won't successfully link to various embedded hypertext links, such as those embedded in an email. My initial solution was to use firefox, which served me well until an application from a local vendor will only work with internet explorer. Sigh.

I've used windows since version 2 back in the 1980s, have become stoic, and can emotionally cope with having to use 3 browsers to get the job done.

However, just for fun, my current burning question is, with two different versions of ie8 (64 bit and 32 bit) installed into windows 7, why doesn't the control panel default applications utility seem to aware of the fact that there are indeed two different versions installed? It lists firefox and internet explorer, but does not differentiate between the two flavors of ie. My goal was to set ie8 64 bit as the default browser temporarily to accommodate the vendor's application.

Fyi, by setting the default, i refer to: control panel | default programs | associate a file type or protocol with a program. Then scroll down to 'http' and click on the change program button. So in my case, firefox and only one instance of internet explorer, with no bit distinction, display as selection options.

Win 7 No Sound - Creative Sound Card

After upgrading to windows 7 i have had no sound. My system says that there is an onboard audio device, sigmatel high definition audio. Which when checking the sound configuration as suggested by another post, it says it has no problems when troubleshooting, and it has sound going to it (as indicated by the sound meter), however no sound. When i switch to the creative sb x-fi sound card, which is the one that i have sound jacks for, there is no sound going to the speakers.

I have tried disabling the integrated sound card (sigma tel) in the bios as well as in the device manger, no luck on any option. I have downloaded the latest drivers for both the sigmatel and the x-fi, with no luck on either occasion.

Sound Blaster X-fi Sound Card Not Detected

My pc is just over a year old and works fine in all respects with visa 32 bit. The sound card is a sound blaster x-fi and 5. 1 speakers, 2 gigs of memory and quad core. I shrunk the drive to create a partition etc and installed windows 7 in the new partition ( installed this whilst in vista and not from a boot sequence. Booting from the dvd hung at the blue screen with no options to continue). Anyway the installation went fine and boots in to windows with no problems. Except the sound card was not detected.

Using the original driver disk does not update anything, i.e. Pointing to it whilst in update driver mode. Installing from the disk fails at the drivers part of installation on 15 or so dll's. After which in the sound section it now says no audio devices are installed. Before the installation there was one item in this secion, a spdif icon. There was no sound though even though this item was present. Btw, onboard sound is de-activated in the bios.

Booting into vista form the option screen and all is working fine. Any ideas would be most welcome. I have one other small problem when i try and run an online game (eq) it throws up an error message saying cannot access memory at 0x00000044 and promptly closes down when the ok box is clicked. Other than this i like windows 7.

No Sound In Ie8 / Sound Quality Issue

For some reason, my computer randomly quits playing sound at all in ie. I can watch youtube silently. No sound on hulu, or any other streaming site. I managed to fix the problem once by uninstalling and reinstalling flash player, but that seems to be unrelated to the actual problem because it's happened again and the solution no longer works. In media player, i get a random crackle every few seconds, just enough to be really frustrating. It's not my speakers: i played the audio through headphones (connected through a separate jack) in order to check. All sound drivers are up-to-date, and the whole system was working fine two days ago. No software changes have been made except for an update to adobe reader.

Xp Mode Is 64-bit Or 32-bit In Win 7 64-bit

I am planning on purchasing win 7 pro & installing the 64-bit version. I intend to make use of the "xp mode" feature if i can install 32-bit printer drivers within the xp mode, as my photo printers have no 64-bit drivers. I currently edit my photography on a win xp pro 64-bit pc, which is networked to a win xp pro 32-bitpc in order to print images. I need to know if "xp mode" is 32-bit - even when installed with the 64-bit version of win 7 pro. I want to be able to convert/edit my photos in win 7 64-bit, then print these images using "xp mode" via the 32-bit driversi intend to installin xp mode- all from the same pc. Is this do-able?
