Wireless Connected To A Domain For Multiple Users On The Same Laptop

I am in a hospital setting. We have several wireless laptops where users will need to connect to the wireless network and be able to login to active directory. I have found a way to do this for a single user on the laptop but these laptops are used by multiple users. Windows 7 will use one users domain credentials to connect to the wireless network and also login to the domain, but it will not do this for any other users that use the laptop. It appears that it will only remember one users credentials. I assume this is by design but i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to do this for multiple users on the same laptop. I know i could create a single service account to accomplish this but we prefer not to do this for security reasons.

Any other suggestions?

Laptop Does Not Connect To Printer Connected To Wireless Router

Windows 7 wireless laptop does not connect to printer connected to netgear wireless router the printer must be restarted every time i want to print from the wireless windows 7 laptop (through the use of the printer on/off switch. ) The hp 2820 mfp printer has a network card and is connected to the netgear dgn2000 router. I have used the built-in troubleshooting devices from the windows control panel but the problem continues. (Note the laptop was upgraded from vista and the printer worked ok. Also the router was upgraded from an old 2-wire router that died. So, unfortunately i have two variables).

One Pc With Multiple Users

I have one pc with multiple users (with text-based passwords) oneguest account turned on (with a blank-password).

I want to share some files, some folders, and some libraries between different users but exclude guest users. I have not been able to do it with any of the share schemes that seem to always address computers on a network and not multiple users on a single pc.

What tools do i as the administrator use to share selected files, or selected folders, or selected libraries between selected user accounts on the same pc? Everything i tried in the "share" tools seem to fail for some reason that i cannot fathom. The entire set of files was copied over from a failed xp pc to a new windows 7 pc with specific files copied to non-public folders for specific users.

I know how to use the public libraries that all users can see, to include guest.

Laptop Wireless Adaptor Problem

I have one desktop computer, a windows vista laptop, and an hp mini windows 7. We have a wireless router and the desktop and vista laptop work on our network. However, the hp mini does not. It just stopped working about one week ago. I can connect to outside networks, like motorola, but i cannot connect to our private network. When i try to, the hp mini ends up saying that there is something wrong with the wireless adaptor or access point. I tried doing system recovery, ipconfig/dnsflush, i tried rebooting both the modem and router but our network still does not work on the hp laptop only, it is shown as being available but it will not connect. What's the problem?

Pc Cannot See Wireless Win 7 Pro Laptop Or Xp Desktop

Windows 7 home premium cannot see wireless win 7 pro laptop or xp desktop. I have seen this topic in various forums, i've tried several suggested changes/additions without success. My situation is i have two laptops one with win 7 home premium the other with win 7 pro and a desktop running xp (sp3). These are connected through a bt home hub and using a workgroup local network have worked fine, file sharing print sharing etc until recently. Both laptops were originally built with vista with the offer of an upgrade to win 7. I recently tried to connect my laptop (win 7 home premium) to my desktop (xp3)with an ethernet cable. Through my lack of knowledge i gave up, i established a
Connection but could not "see" each other in explorer. I decided to revert back to my original set up but it stopped working on my laptop, no file or printer sharing.

I have tried the following in the cmd utility;-

1. Pings - from my laptop i can ping the other's on name and ip address successfully. From the laptop running win 7 pro i can do the same. From my desktop (xp) i can ping my laptop (win 7 hp) and the win pro laptop using their ip addresses, but when i try pinging with their names i cannot ping my laptop (win 7 hp).

2.net view - i have successful listings when i run this on the desktop (xp) and win 7 pro laptop. It will not run on win 7 hp. Both the desktop (xp) and win 7pro laptop can see and access shared files on all 3 pc's, win 7 hp laptop cannot see shared files. Desktop (xp) and win 7 pro laptop show all devices in "network places". In explorer win 7 hp laptop does not show xp desktop, it shows win 7 pro laptop but will not connect to it. A message appears "check spelling of name" it is correct. The trouble shooter does not detect any problems? When i view the network map i can see the xp desktop, the win 7 pro laptop is at the bottom of screen saying it is unable to be connected.
Can anyone help?

Wireless Internet Is Connected But No Internet Access

I just bought a new computer with os windows 7. As i was doing the set-up, it asked about the home wireless network and i identified it and entered the internet key. After the set-up was over, i cannot connect to the wireless network. It says connected and no internet access. It has the public icon and "unidentified network".

I have a "network error" window that keeps popping up that says "another computer on this network has the same ip address". I tried one of the solutions on this site to resolve it. I used the command prompt to release and renew the ip address and seems to not have worked. How can i get a valid ip address? And how can i make my computer recognize the home wireless network?

Domain Profile

We have new install of windows 7 for a user who previously had windows xp. He has a roaming profile setup that has all his files and document stored on a network folder. With windows 7 the domain profile never syncs and in one instance the user change the font size, logged off and the entire changes made to the desktop and outlook were gone! Contents of my documents(over 2 gb) vanished. The users profile still works when he tried accessing it from another machine with xp on it. The user is set as a administrator on the domain and the pc.

Domain Issue

I have a problem with the network picking up a computer once it joins a domain. We recently aquired a laptop with windows 7 professional on it 64 bit, and the network is having problems picking up the computer once it joins the domain. I can go on ad and see that the computer is actually on there, but whenever i try to find it through my computer-> network-> everybody else computer is showing up but the new one is not there.

I have successfully added win7(64bit) computers to the domain and confused why this one seems to be so troublesome. If you need anymore information please feel free to ask and i will try to clarify things if you need it.

Domain Server Not Reachable

I have a problem going to a certain website. Never had a problem before. It's www.Thegoodcook.com. It keeps saying. Internet explorer cannot display the webpage. Internet cannot display this website. This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The domain name server (dns) is not reachable.
The domain name server (dns) does not have a listing for the website's domain.
There might be a typing error in the address.
If this is an https (secure) address, click tools, click internet options, click advanced, and check to be sure the ssl and tls protocols are enabled under the security section

Network Domain Shortcuts

I've just installed windows 7 pro in our test lab. I have attached it to the testing domain and am looking to find out how to make shortcuts on the desktop for either the root level of the microsoft networks or for each individual domain/workgroup. With xp, i could double click on the 'my network places' icon, then click on 'entire network' and double click on 'microsoft windows network. ' this action produces a list of all available domains and workgroups available in the network. I could then drag one of these to the desktop to make a shortcut. This gives me access to just the computers that i'm looking for.

In windows 7, when i click on the network icon a list of all devices appears (after some time of searching). At this point i have to scroll through the huge list to find what i'm looking for. It just seems like to me that there should be a way to emulate the actions of xp in order to only get what is necessary. I shouldn't need to get all the information about everything on the network when i know exactly where i need to go. Does anyone have any ideas of how to accomplish this?

I was able to find a work-around by copying the network shortcuts i had created on an xp machine and they seem to work just fine, but there should be a way to get to these root level domains/workgroups without having to rely on a separate older operating system.

Active Directory Domain Services Unavailable

I'm running windows 7 and after the last set of updates (4/15/2010) i can no longer access the print servers (version 2003). It gives me the message: active directory domain services unavailable. I have verified that dns is set up properly and have tried without the firewall active. I have also tried doing a system restore but that failed to fix the problem. I suspect a registry issue as i have the same problem regardless of what problem i try to print with.

I am also now having a problem with adobe and am getting the error message: unable to print: no pages were selected to print. I noticed that these patches are for patches. I am also unable to use the diagnostics program because it says i do not have the "download a file periodically that helps determine system problems" box " checked even though i do. My computer is a tool that is useless with out this ability.

Active Directory Domain Services Not Available At This Time

I know this has come up before but i am at my wits end and i seem to have tried everything. I have a dell studio laptop running windows 7 connected by wireless to a bt home hub. It is connected, i thought locally, to a hp laserjet 1100 printer. Recently, suddenly, it refused to print out of word 2007 (and excel 2007)and the error message above has been displayed. I have tried re-installing the printer, both as myself and as administrator. I have tried troubleshooting, but this reconnects as a network printer and nothing happens.

I am not expert enough  to start doing professional things. Is there a fix or will i have to but a new printer? The annoying thing is that my imac works fine, but for some things i need to communicate via windows.

Network / Domain Group Enabled By Default?

Is network group or domain group supposed to be enabled by default? I ask this because i've heard from other people that having a network group allows other users to access/share your system. Also that none of these need to be enabled if you just want to be a single user.

Under computer name, domain, and workgroup settings it shows: "workgroup: workgroup" someone has been able to remotely control my computer for years now and i'm looking for any answers.

Relocating C:users

I am about to do a fresh win7 installation on a brand new machine. I have always preferred to keep user data on a separate drive, in order to make it possible to back up all user-related stuff without necessarily having to back up the whole os.

In windows xp, it was possible to relocate the "documents and settings" directory to a drive other than "c:" by running an unattended installation. I am trying to determine whether a similar approach is necessary with win7, or whether there might be an easier way to accomplish the relocation of the "users" directory.

If the answer is that there is an easier way, i'd like to hear it. But if not, see below.

I have downloaded the waik, and its documentation, and i have been trying to find a win7 setting that would allow me to relocate the users directory. So far, i'm finding the documentation rather confusing, and i haven't yet located the right setting.

Dns Issue - Pinging Host Within Child Domain

I'm having some interesting issues with windows 7 dns.

Here are the particulars:

Windows 7 enterprise 32 bit machine, joined to a win2k3 ad. My domain for example purposes is called corp. Example. Info. I have a child domain: prod.corp. Example. Info, and in this child domain
Is a host: "test". So, test's fqdn is: test. Prod.corp. Example. Info. In this particular case "test" is a cname, but the error happens regardless of the dns record type.

My problem is if i ping test. Prod i get host not found. If i ping test. Prod.corp. Example. Info, everything works fine. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod, i get the correct results. If i do an nslookup on test. Prod.corp. Example. Info i get the correct results. (This tells me the records work correctly in dns) i have no firewall on my win7 machine, or anything funky.

I have other operating systems in domain: rhel4, rhel5, winxp, and hpux machines and all of them can correctly resolve "test. Prod" correctly. I haven't tried it on windows fista, as we're not running it here.

My c:windowssystem32driversetchosts file contains no entries, and is not corrupted.

I've tried ipconfig /flushdns, /release /renew, /register/ etc to no avail.

I have a reserved ip address in the dhcp scope for this particular machine, but the machine does get its ip from dhcp (not sure this matters, but including it anyway) all advanced settings on my win 7 ipv4 stack match the functional xp machine's settings.

I've done wireshark traces on both my win7 machine, and the xp machines, and here are my results:

Winxp:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

3) client machine sends a request to dns for "test. Prod.corp. Example. Info"

4) dns server returns a standard query response with the correct record.

On win7:

1) client machine sends a request to the dns server (in this case, my domain controller) for "test. Prod"

2) dns server returns a standard query response "no such name"

At this point, the win7 machine gives up, and returns could not find host.
Naturally, i checked my advanced ipv4 settings, and verified they're identical to the working
Xp machine. Any microsoft gurus out there have any insight?

Unable To Join 7 Pro To Sbs 2003 Domain

So far i've been unable to join a new laptop running 7 pro to an existing sbs 2003 domain. Whenever i try to use: http://servername/connectcomputer i get an http 403 error and it points to an iis issue, but, i can't seem to find a way around this issue. Then i tried going through system properties and computer name and change to join it. Then i get a 'can't locate domain' message. I've tried using the fqdm, only the server name, the domain name minus the extension and nothing works. At first i thought it was a dns issue, but, i can ping the server name or any other computer by name, with no issues.

How To Make A Program Available To All Users?

How do i make a program available to all users if the program was installed for one user. Basically the problem is that i created another user account but only a few random applications show up on it and i'd really hate to have to reinstall some +50 programs so my computer can function normally on my secondary user account. I am able to locate many of the installed programs by snooping around in explorer and have been able to run a few by creating shortcuts, but many of them (spybot, itunes, google chrome, the list goes on!) Do nothing when the .exe is opened and are rendered useless (on that account).

Input Language For All Users

Is there a way to make the language toolbar stick for all users? In xp, if you turned on the language toolbar, it was on for all users. I can't seem to figure out a way to have it stay for all users.
