Blank Screen On Restart With A Cursor Blinking

I have a inspiron 1545 and when i restart with a verizon wireless modem plugged in to a usb port & it gives me a blank screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. When i pull it out on restart it boots. However, when i start it with it plugged in it works fine. I know the problem is my computer because my wife has the same 1545 and no problem. I can work around by pulling it, on restart but it seems my computer has a problem.

Also, upon further testing it is not the verizon wireless modem only , that hanged up restart. It is the fact i have 2 modems plugged in. The other is a wireless logitech mouse. When i take either out restart works. So with both plugged in restart goes to a blank screen & when i only have one of them plugged in restart works. I have disabled the usb on boot sequence and it had no effect. Any ideas?

Black Screen Of Death With No Cursor

I have tried what people suggested about using control alt del to no avail. I have even tried to reinstall windows 7 to no avail. The computer worked fine when first installed, then after an update, everything went to pot. Now when i start up the computer, the microsoft logo comes up, then goes to black with no cursor visible and my monitor states "no signal". I am running an amd phenom x4 955 with windows 7 ultimate. This is very frustrating. I cannot get onto the internet from my home computer at all or do any thing. I have tried booting from the cd. No help.

Black Screen White Cursor

I am having trouble with my windows 7. Im operating a toshiba satellite l305 series . When i power up my system i come to a screen that reads "windows error recovery' it also says "windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause" theres another paragraph and it gives you two options. "Launch startup repair" which brings me to a black screen with an arrow. The other "start windows normally" this eventually brings me to a blue error screen. Does anyone know whats causing this and have to solve it? Im a college student and desperately need my laptop up and running. Any hep is much appreciated.

Black Screen With Cursor On Boot

Upd win 7 pro black screen with cursor on boot, nothing works windows 7 pro ati 5870, latest drivers. X58 chipset , 6 gb ram. Ok. Today, i went on my computer, logged on, then explorer started to crash. It kept restarting explorer and explorer immediately crashed. So, i held the power button for 5 seconds, because there was no other way. When i restarted, the only thing i saw was a black screen with nothing but a movable cursor on it.

So, i tried pressing ctrl alt del, or crtl shift esc to open task manager. Still black screen, nothing happens. I tried startup repair with windows install disk, says remove any new devices. I don't have any new devices. I tried system restore . Says restored successfully , but still black screen at reboot. When i looked at system restore, there was a critical windows update not too long before explorer started to crash, so maybe i screwed up the update by not letting it configure it - i shut it off before it could do anything because the "explorer stopped responding" alert box locked my computer - i could not click anything, and it kept appearing.

Seriously, what the heck is going on? I mean i can reinstall windows, but with all my programs and configuration, this takes days also, the screen flashes at regular intervals, like it's trying to change or recover the display driver. My monitor shows the "no signal" message for about 2 seconds then it shows the cursor again. Upd: after trying to start explorer manually, it finally gave me an error message, it says that explorerframe.dll is missing. But it is not missing, there is a file names explorerframe.dll in the system 32 folder

Black Screen After Login With Mouse Cursor

I have windows 7 enterprise (bitlockered with tpm).system worked fine for a week. Hp elitebook laptop with nvidia fx2700 video (installed display driver from hp site).

Today i logged in and get a black screen with mouse cursor. Can move cursor around screen. Laptop appears to be running, but screen is black. Can not bring up task manager (or can not see it).
This is not a monitor selection issue (can't switch to another monitor). Plus, mouse cursor is visible.

If i hit crtl-alt-delete, the menu comes up. I can logoff or reboot (can not see task manager).
If i logoff or restart, i go to the windows login screen as normal. Attempt to login and get same black screen. I am trying to login to a domain account.

I can login to local admin account. Seems to work fine from this profile. Is this just a corrupt profile issue? Recreating profile will be difficult from off site. Can try system restore.

I have seen several questions posted regarding black screens, but symptoms seem varied in each case.
Has anyone else had a similar scenario and found an easy fix?

Screen Goes Blank

After i have updated my computer from xp to win7 i have been experiencing a strange thing. My screen goes blank after 60 seconds of inactivity.initially when it happened i saw that my graphic card driver (nvidia geoforce 8400gs) was not updated - which was also causing some blue screen errors. After i updated the drivers the blue screen error went away but the blank screen error sort of comes and goes. It stays for some time (a week or something) and then goes away for a month etc. Two reasons i could think of.

1. Power options - everything set to "never"
2. Graphics drivers - up to date

Any idea why i would be seeing this ?

Laptop Screen Doesn't Restart After Shut Off To Save Energy

I have a 2 weeks old lenovo laptop g460. When i leave the laptop alone it'll shut off the screen as a energy saving option but the screen doesn't restart when i get back to it. I've tried pressing esc, power button, ctrl+alt+del, clicked the mouse, the mouse pad, the screen on fn +f2 but nothing will restart the screen unless i do a forced shutdown and startup again. Sometimes i leave the laptop alone to do disk defrag using mydefrag, i am worried about system instability in the long run in addition to the sheer inconvenience it causes. Any idea how to resolve this?

Blank Screen After Upgrade

During the upgrade from vista ultimate to windows 7 ultimate the screen went blank so i am not even sure that win 7 installation was successful. As i could see nothing on the screen i waited 5 hours until my pc went absolutely quiet with no sign of installation activity. I then did a hard reboot. The pc powers up and powers down 3 times before staying on, but the screen remains blank as the monitor is in power saving mode. I have tried everything to get the monitor out of power saving mode but cannot change it.

This means that i cannot boot into any mode (safe mode included) as i have no monitor picture. I carried out the ~win advisor tests and removed all programs it suggested. The only thing i could not remove was the "ati catalyst control centre and install manager" each time i tried to remove them i got the message that setup.exe was not responding, so i could not remove them. How can i get my monitorto come on without being in power saving mode, and if not, is there any other way i can boot into safe mode which will switch the monitor on?

Blank Screen After Installing Win 7

I have been wrestling with windows 7 to get it to run on my new machine i just built, apparently i have the upgrade only version, so i had to install vista then windows 7, etc. Then when i got that running yesterday windows tells me my cd key, that i have physically in my hand, on the original box, is invalid. I check the error code online, find out that i need to call microsoft to activate it over the phone, because i have used it too many times in a certain time frame. All of these uses are re-formats by the way.

So, today when i tried to log into windows so i could get the error code window again, and make my phone call to microsoft my windows won't start. I get past the "windows is loading" screen, with the four floating balls that form the windows logo, and it loads my mouse pointer, and a black screen. And then, nothing. I let it sit for over an hour, still nothing, i try ctrl-alt-delete to get it working on something, maybe kick start the load, nothing. I loaded all fail safe settings in my bios and then ran it in safe mode, still the same result. I honestly have no idea where to go with this next.

Blank Blue Screen - No Bios Error

I recently built myself a new computer. It's components are:-2 nvidia gtx470 connected via sli-core i7 930-3 3gb ddr3 ram sticks-asus p6x58d-e x58 r motherboard-antec|tp-750 750w rt power supply now, it's been running fine for the past 2 weeks. Perfectly, in fact. However my dad dragged me away on vacation to the dominican republic so i left the computer with my mom and grandma since they use it. Now, last night my mom told me that she got a problem. When she turned it on and tried to access her session she got a blank blue screen. No error messages, nothing.

I told her to hard restart it, and when she did it gave her the "windows shut down unexpectedly, start in safe mode or boot windows normally?" Message. When she told it to boot up normally, it was fine. I told her to restart it again to see if the bios would report any errors like it normally does when there's hardware failure but nothing came up. The more i think about it though, the less likely it seems like it'd be a hardware issue though, since this problem would've arisen much sooner since before i left i was playing alot of games, wouldn't it?

This morning when my grandmother turned on the computer again she got the same problem. I told her to hard reset it again, and once more it booted up normally after that. I had her run r-kill (which reported no malicious processes) and run malware bytes and microsoft security essentials. After that i'm going to have her insert the windows 7 disc to run a repair. What exactly is the problem though? Is there anything else that i should be doing?

Mouse Doesn't Move - Screen Goes Blank

Windows 7 ultimate 64bit seem to just 'lock up', by 'lock up' i mean the mouse (razer mamba) doesn't move, the keyboard (logitech g19)'s screen goes black, the 'windows key' doesn't work, the keys don't light up and alt+ctrl+del don't work, my game pad (logitech g13) doesn't work, webcam (logitech orb) doesn't work or light up.

I have tried as many things as i can think of, re-installing the os, putting my computer at stock settings (i had gpu, cpu and ram overclocked), re-installing the os, i have disabled the 'usb selective suspend setting' i have tried reverting to the vista 64bit drivers, 'checking' the computer memory, replacing the hard drive with a new one, tried doing this 'clean boot' thing, still no luck.

Since i changed this setting i am having problems getting a display on the laptop ( when the hdmi cable is connected ). Blinking Desktop Icons On Win 7 Pro X64

Last week the icons on my desktop started blinking when i logon to my account, after cold booting. The icons blink to a white color then go back to normal every two seconds. If i logoff and back on the problem clears, but always returns after a cold boot. I don't have a clue as to why this has started. The most recent program i installed was office communicator 2007 r2 which i have to use for work, and i believe there were some system updates from microsoft.

The cpu runs at about 25% busy when the blinking is happening. If i press the start key, the menu appears briefly and then disappears so it's very difficult to quickly choose an option. I think there's something upsetting the explore.exe process. I use avira antivir premium v9 and a licensed version of malwarebytes, and neither report any virus or malware infections. Any ideas?

Restart Loop

I did a windows update and restarted my pc as instructed and the pc just keeps restarting. I tried to boot to safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, and last known good configuration and it still loops. I finally chose not to restart after failure and got a blue screen that read "stop: c000021a {fatal system error}

The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x 0000135 (0x 00000000  0x 00000000) the system has been shut down. "

Problem With Restart

Windows 7 will not restart. When ever i try to restart my computer it shuts down and sits at a blank screen that will not do anything. I am not sure why this is happening obviously but i need some help i will try to provide more information in the proceeding text the best i can but if i do not explain it to your satisfaction please leave your e-mail or send me one so we can solve the problem. I had windows vista for about 6 months then i upgraded to 7.

After that when i restart the computer it will not complete the restart. It sits at a black screen and i have to hold the power button in order to restart it. I haven't tried much because i have never had a problem with this before also i have never heard of this problem. My laptop is a gateway that was pre-installed with windows vista so if this is a conversion issue with windows 7 and gateway that information would be helpful.

Jumping Cursor

I have seen this problem noted-but no good solutions. Removed and replaced xp on sony vaio notebook with 7 ultimate. Effort was a success-worked perfectly. But after a couple of weeks sometimes, the cursor jumps around when i try to type. Usually goes backwards from mid-word to a previous word or even previous line. Very annoying. Doesn't happen all the time and sometimes is much worse than other times. Maybe got worse with windows updates. Have turned aero off with windows classic (boring) and slowed pointer down. Touchpad is working fine. Video card doesn't have any new drivers and is irreplaceable. Would that cause the problem?

Everything Changes On System Restart

Ok, i came home today to find my computer did a restart after an update. Everything on my desktop changes, icons are rearranged, fonts different. All around a mess. This also happens if i do a shut down re-start. I have a hard time seeing, so i change the icons, fonts to the size i can see and this changes. To much time to sit and re-change everything back. I saved the theme i created, the desktop wallpaper does not change, just everything else. Toolbar, and sizes of everything.colors change also to the. Everything goes back to original settings. Just upgraded to windows 7 pro after a crash of hard drive. Everything going great until this.
