No Keyboard Message When Booting

Keyboard and mouse are not being detected during boot process. I have searched microsoft, the hardware manufacturer and used blitware's driver fetch to no avail. All sources indicate i have the most current drivers for my hardware. Once the system boots to the window's desktop i can remove the usb connection and upon reinsertion windows sees the device and installs drivers; then the keyboard and mouse work find.

Some Programs Delays Before Booting Up

I have win 7 ultimate, cpu-core duo e6850, 4gb memory, nvdia 8800 gtx graphics card, motherboard evga nforce 680i lt sli. Often i will double click a program, usually internet explorer. The cursor will twirl like it is booting the program for 10 seconds then stop. In 1 to 2 minutes later the program will run. It seems that this does not happen with "portable" programs that don't access the registry. I have had this happen ever since installing win 7. I've scanned for viruses with 3 different programs and am clean. Does anyone know what is going onlso i have set my power saving settings to be always on and to never hibernate.

Trouble Dual Booting Win7 And Xp

Trying to install win xp onto a notebook that already has win 7 installed. I shrunk the partition holding win 7 and created a primary partition on the other. What i did was cut the hd in half and now have two partitions. The second partition is  a health primary partition and is now drive e:. I restart the notebook and with the xp pro disc in the cd drive i boot from it. All of the installation files and drivers load as usual but when it gets to the next part, i get a blue screen and it goes no farther.

I have run every test chkdsk etc. And the drive is fine. I'm starting to get the idea that you cannot install xp on a computer that is already running 7 no matter what you do. I have a multiboot desktop that i built but i installed xp first and then 7 and it works fine but then this was a computer that never had an os  of any kind on it. If anyone can confirm that i can't install xp on this machine unless i start from scratch and reinstall everything i would appreciate it, if there is a work around please let me know.

Reinstall On Dual Booting Macbook

I installed a recently purchased full version of windows 7 ultimate on my dual booting macbook pro laptop but am unable to install the xp compatibility module. Apparently there is an authenticity issue. The problem may be due to the fact that when i partitioned the disk and installed windows, i inadvertently corrupted the mac os x system. So i reinitialized the disk and installed os x again. Windows 7 apparently installed successfully. But when i downloaded the windows xp compatibility module it failed to install. The message indicates that there is an authenticity issue.

Problem Booting In Sata Mode

I recently built a computer using an asrock x58 extreme mobo. I installed windows 7, but realized only afterward that the mobo's default setting for the hdds was ide rather than sata.

I followed the registry hack instructions to change the "start" parameter for the msahci driver to "0" (, rebooted, changed the bios setting to ahci and everything worked fine. The sata drivers loaded and things were looking good!

However, a few days later i had a problem with going into "sleep" mode. The computer hung, and after several minutes i just switched if off and rebooted.

Now, i cannot get it to boot properly with the bios in ahci mode. The registry entries are still the same as when ahci was working, but it will not boot in sata mode. I get the message "problem loading os". Changing the bios back to ide allows me to boot.

Any ideas as to what went wrong (was it the hard shutdown that messed me up?), And any ideas on how to get sata working again?

Win 7 Not Booting - Unable To Do A System Restore

I installed the last windows updates last night, and this morning when i tried to boot up my computer, it worked, but it froze when i tried to run explorer so i had to do a forced shutdown. I then was unable to do a system restore, and now i'm getting the following message:windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. It goes on to ask me insert the windows disc (which i don't have), and goes on to say "an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data". What can i do to restore windows off of my hard-drive?

Trouble Booting From Windows Install Disk

I built a new computer installed windows xp no problem. It is a total sata machine hard drives and optical drive. I purchased a retail upgrade windows 7 disk. So i have to boot off the installation disc and select custom, there lies my problem. The disks loads the operating system into memory and gives me the desk top the only thing i can do is move the mouse around. It will not go to the install screen every time i put the disk into the dvd drive it says loading windows file then the windows 7 desktop appears no option to install no nothing. Is there a setting i am missing in bios where it runs the operating system off the disk and not install it.

Blue Screen Stop Error When Booting

I went on vacation june 5th. When i shutdown my computer (windows 7 professional x64) before leaving, two (2) critical microsoft updates were installed. When i returned from vacation today, june 9th, & started up my computer, i get a flash of a blue screen that has some stop error. It goes by so fast, i can't read it. I've tried the obligatory startup repair options numerous times, but it says that it cannot determine the cause of the problem.

I've tried the system restore option, but it is trying to restore to the (c:) (system) drive, which shows a status of "you must enable system protection on this drive". In startup recovery, the actual system drive has now become the e: or x: drive, so that doesn't work & the os isn't smart enough to identify the correct drive (i guess).

I've tried using the command prompt & running bootrec.exe with every available option, including rebuilding the bcd, but that doesn't work either. The /scan os option says "total identified windows installations: 0", even though i can see all of my windows files on the ~now~ e: & x: drives. I've tried booting into safe mode, but i get the same blue screen. On which the message is again unidentifiable. Everything was working fine before i shutdown my computer & the microsoft updates were installed.

Dual Booting Cannot Find Microsoft Office Suite

I have set up a win 7 dual boot on my laptop which had vista home. The c drive has vista along with all my programs including microsoft office suite 2003 and 2007. When in win 7 i can find and use some programs eg picassa, photofiltre, but i cannot even see the microsoft office suites, they are not listed under all programs on the c drive.

I have tried copying a shortcut to word (in vista) on the win7 desktop folder, but it tells me when i click that i can only use shortcuts on programs that are installed? As i teach seniors computer i need to be able to access the office suites from win7 is there any way this can be achieved?

X6 Keyboard Issue

Recently purchased above keyboard and have noticed after a coule of weeks the #7 key at top of keyboard appears to stick down. Ie hold #7 key down and will repeat at a much faster rate than the other keys, almost 3-4 times as fast. If the plastic key is removed and i use a pen to hit the sensor it works correctly. Do you think it needs to be returned under warranty or is there something which i can do? I thought the key itself might be holding the plastic cover on teh sensor down longer than normal, but its position is consistent with all the other keys. I have checked for dirt etc under keys but all clear.

Changing Keyboard

I have a laptop with a japanese keyboard. I am running an english os. I have gone to control panel. I clicked the change keyboard. I added languages so that i have both english and japanese and both languages keyboard options installed. The ime too. When i press alt and shift, the language bar does change between en and jp. The language bar also indicates that the keyboard has changed too.

However, even when the language bar says the language is japanese and that the keyboard is japanese, the pc still types as if configured for an english keyboard. I have also tried typing with the default input language set as japanese, and then tried it set as english.

Does anyone know why, despite following all the steps; despite having text services and input languages indicating that under installed services that english and japanese input devices have been added (and yes, i pressed apply); and despite having a language bar that does switch between english and japanese when alt+shift is pressed, that nothing changes and the key board still behaves as an english (us) keyboard?

Brazilian Keyboard

I just received a new computer with windows 7, and i'm trying to get a brazilian keyboard to work with it. My old computer was xp, and this same keyboard worked fine. I set up a different language for when i was using this keyboard, and it would let me use all the keys (i don't remember what was the keyboard layout that i used).

When i try and set it up with windows 7, however, there is no keyboard layout that matches my layout. The abnt and abnt2 options look the same, and both are missing two keys. My keyboard has the to the left of the z, and the / to the right of the ;. Is there some error with how windows 7 has set up one of these keyboards?

Login Using Only Keyboard

When i leave my work desk i have to lock my station, i do it very often so i would like to login faster - by using only my keyboard. Is there a combination of keys that would get me straight to the password box? When locked the monitor says "swipe your finger" (i can't use my fingerprint reader at that point because the lid is closed, i'm using external keyboard and monitor) when i try ctrl+alt+del nothing happens, esc key works by displaying user icon and the button "switch user".

I must point the user icon with the mouse to reveal the password box, there is apparently no way to change focus to that icon from the keyboard (tab doesn't work). It's annoying that i must grab my mouse every time i want to unlock the workstation.

Using Keyboard In Win 7

I'm not visually impaired, but i prefer to use the keyboard more than the mouse. I am finding win7 to be very cumbersome to use with the keyboard. I know there are tons of new logo key combinations-i think i've tried them all-but it is still very difficult for me to move around explorer using the keyboard. Seems like everything takes 2 or 3 more keystrokes than it did when i used xp. How are other "keyboarders" or even visually impaired users coping with win 7? Any ideas on working more efficiently with the keyboard?

The @ Key On Keyboard

I have just bought and started using a netbook. I've got windows 7 running and have installed office 2007 professional. The keyboard layout is qwerty. When i use the number 2 key to add the @ symbol to what i am writing, i get speech-marks (") and visa versa with the speech-marks key i get an @.
The number 3 key give a pound (£) symbol instead of the hash. I have been to the control panel to check the region and the keyboard settings, but it all looks normal. Is there a way of changing these keys to they way they are printed on the keyboard?

No Keyboard Input Available

There is a user who started having problems this morning. The machine is 1 week old, loaded with windows 7 ultimate 64bit. The keyboard is dead, the only thing i'm able to do is turn the f-lock on and off nothing else responds. I tried plugging in another usb keyboard and then a ps-2 keyboard and neither work. When i was finally able to use the on screen keyboard to login i found in device manager there was an error 19 for the keyboard saying that driver information in the registry had become corrupt so the device couldn't be started.

So i look that up and find that deleting the upperfilter in the registry was suggested. So i deleted the upperfilter and rebooted and still no keyboard. I can use the keyboard in the bios and to select safe mode or normal mode but once windows starts the keyboard is dead. I've also noticed that everytime i reboot along with the usb keyboard and mouse a ps-2 keyboard and mouse is installed in the device manager with exclamation marks. I've restored to earlier times when everything worked and still no keyboard. Any ideas?

Keyboard Drivers Becoming Disabled

Keyboard *drivers* becoming 'disabled' (1st usb, then ps/2); show "!" In hw-lst, but win-diags find nothing wrong. This is a most peculiar problem. First my usb kbd driver went dead. At first i didn't notice it, as i was using the mouse, primarily, for input, but remember a hw-rejected sound from windows earlier upon logging in.

My keyboard wouldn't do anything. No led toggles - etc, but on another machine, fine, and on same machine 'fine' - until windows comes up, then kbd goes dead (once bios drivers are no longer driving kbd, likely).

Under keyboards, the hid keyboard driver showed a small yellow triangle with an ! In it.

After trying  reinstalling the driver (its the stock ms driver), upgrading it (no upgrades), repair ("nothing can be found wrong, maybe the driver is corrupt", but file kbd_hid.sys, checks out w/valid ms sig), i decide to hook up a ps/2 keyboard. It worked for all of maybe 20 seconds. Then a low hw reject message as win7 disconnected my ps/2 kbd! Unbelievable! Now both my hid kbd driver and the 'standard ps/2 keyboard driver show up with the yellow triangle with a "!" In it. But i can't figure out what's doing wrong with the.

I also tried system restore to day before any of this happened - no go. I figured going back further would be a waste, since the start of the problem was rather clearly defined.

I *thought* i had caused it when i tried to enter a sw policy restriction to forbid 'wisptis.exe' from executing - (the onscreen digital ink input dealy) - for two reasons - it kept getting in the way and i couldn't figure out how to get it to turn off (i wanted to use my tablet's native drivers, but wisptis was interfering and making the tablet good for nothing but digital ink (handwriting recognition as keyboard input)).

The final straw came when i was looking through my logs and found the security log (~20mb log) mostly full with security failures from wisptis.exe (i turned on monitoring of security failures, only, thinking that failures, should be rare in properly acting sw, and this software was clearly violating win7's own security policy!).

It was after i added the policy that the usb keyboard went dead.

But that policy went away from the first 'backstep' (system restore point) - but the keyboard didn't come back. After that it was downhill for the ps/2 driver. So, to be clear, the policy is not in the security panel - it was back to pre-init state (no sw policies in effect) after the 1st system restore. So that 'had' to be coincidence. But it felt oddly coincidental, that the only 'keyboad' type inputs left to use on the system were the on-screen keyboard and the digital-ink keyboard. (Mouse paths/drivers are unaffected).

Keyboard Performing Shortcuts

Why is my keyboard performing shortcuts i don't want and don't mean to type? I have a new dell inspiron laptop (my old computer with windows xp was also a dell laptop). When i am typing, especially when i'm typing an email or anywhere else online (in firefox), i am unintentionally closing windows and tabs, opening up history and bookmarks sidebars, accidentally sending emails, opening up windows explorer windows. It's all from the keyboard - i am accidentally entering in shortcuts somehow, i guess? I have no idea. This was not a problem on my old computer.

I am a fast typer, but this is annoying the _ out of me. Is this a setting i can turn off? Is it windows 7, or firefox, or my keyboard? Of course i use the common computer shortcuts (copy, cut, paste, etc. ) And don't want to completely turn off keyboard shortcuts, but i am not purposely entering in shortcuts, they just keep happening. All the time. What is the deal?

Keyboard & Mousepad Conflict

I have recently installed windows 7 pro (64-bit) over my last os - windows 7 ultimate candidate (32-bit). Before hand, i had no problems with my keyboard and mouse-pad. Now, i can't move my mouse while i press a key on the keyboard (letters, space bar, numbers, etc). The mouse pointer just stays in place while a key is pressed, and even after i let go it takes a second for the mouse to move again. This is especially annoying when i'm trying to use keyboard shortcuts on photoshop.
I am not using any new programs.
My computer specs:
Acer extensa 4420
Amd turion64 x2
Ati radeon x1250

Win 7 Keyboard Issues

I have recently installed the windows 7 release candidate. I partitioned my hard drive so that i can dual boot between that and xp. Everything was working fine until i restarted and booted into xp to do a few things in there then restarted again and booted into windows 7. Upon doing so, my keyboard no longer works. It had been working fine prior to the restart. It is a compaq 134 key office/internet keyboard with a ps/2 connection.

I ran the driver disk on windows 7 prior to ever restarting. I also tried using a dell keyboard with a usb connection and that didn't work either. I have a password protected login, therefore i am stuck at the login screen. I have logged in using the on-screen keyboard and gone to device manager. First it would tell me that the drivers for either keyboard were not installed. Then it would tell me that they were installed, but they still wouldn't work. I was really looking forward to testing out this new version of windows, but it's not making a god first impression. I'm just glad that i chose to dual-boot.

Laptop Keyboard Not Working

I had the rc version of windows working fine on my asus aspire 5670 laptop for several months. Then about 2 weeks age, i installed a couple of windows updates and the laptop keyboard stopped working. No red bangs in deice manager, updating driver had no effect. Keyboard works fine in bios as well as in safe mode. Restore points had no effect. Flashed the bios, still nothing. Since windows 7 was released last week, i snagged a copy and did a clean install (formatting the system drive in advance) assuming that this would fix the problem - it did not! I had to use the on screen keyboard to enter  the product key ;).
