Save As To A Usb Thumb Drive

My usb thumb drive is not cooperating. I can drag (or send) a file to it from the desktop if i "provide administrator permission to copy to this folder. " I can create a new file on the thumb drive. I can even open and edit the new txt file - but "access is denied" if i try to save the file (to its original name and place).

Some applications will save to the thumb drive with an odd message, but the real trouble is an application that flat out refuses to save to the thumb drive. Wordpad says "you don't have permission to save in this location.contact the administrator to obtain permission. "

How to fix the thumb drives?

Usb Thumb Drive Crashes Explorer

I have a usb thumb drive that i use to store lotus notes mail id's on as a backup protocol. The usb drive has been functioning on my machine for over a year until recently. I connect my thumb drive in and attempt to browse the contents through windows explorer. As soon as i click the drive, the window freezes. The only way to unfreeze the machine is to kill explorer.exe and restart the process or just simply pull the thumb drive out. I've attempted to assign the device a new drive letter through cpu management but the shell ultimately freezes when the drive is inserted.

The drive works fine in multiple other machines. I've tested the drive in multiple usb ports on the affected pc and still the same issue. I've tested with other thumb drives on my machine and they work flawlessly. I ended up backing all the media up on another machine and tried reformatting the usb drive to fat32. The thumb drive still crashes windows explorer.

Does anyone have any other ideas where to go?

Ejecting Usb Thumb Drive Disabled Networking

I connect my usb thumb drive and copy files. I then use the safetly remove hardware tool to eject the usb drive. If i then reconnect the usb drive and eject again using the safely remove hardware tool, the wireless network stops working. If i try to diagnose or disable / enable the network adapter, windows displays a message saying that the device is busy. The wireless connection never comes back and i have to reboot. The laptop is a toshiba satellite, i have the latest device drivers installed.
What is the solution?

One of my systems had vista on a drive, then i installed seven on another one. So now i have a c: (seven) and d: (vista) i modified the boot menu so that system could boot direct on seven and do not offer to start vista anymore. Worked fine. (C and d are two separate physical drives). I cannot manage to format d:, seven complains with a security error message (not in front of the computer now, so cannot tell exactly which one, but it says that i am not an administrator, which i effectively am according to the user account management section of the control panel).

Format Disk In Drive F/sd Card

So this is the first time on my new computer that i'm trying to upload pics from one of my cameras. It has an sd card. So i put the sd card in the slot on my computer and it says i need to format the disk in drive f before i can use it. I never had this problem with my old xp computer. I really don't want to loose my pics. But after putting the card back into my camera now my camera has an error message of "card not initialized".

What the heck happened to my sd card? All i did was stick it in the sd slot. Didn't try to format it or anything after reading that it will erase all content. Help? Is my card bad now? Is saving my pics a lost cause? Why do i have to format it when it worked fine before? I have used my new computer to upload pics from memory pro cards from my other cameras numerous times. No problem.

How To Format C Drive And Save On D Drive?

So had vista on c drive and used d drive to store. Did clean install of windows 7 on d drive. However, c drive still has about 18 gb of stuff that i'm pretty sure dealt with vista and it won't let me format c drive even though i am logged in as administrator. Found most of the workaround by changing owner of folders from trusted installer yada yada.

Found the way to show hidden folders. Right now have everything deleted except $recycle. Bin boot and system volume information. All i want to do is clean format c since windows 7 is on d drive and free up all the space on c. Everytime i try i get same message "windows was unable to complete format".

Also, even though i've changed permission on d drive i am not able to save even simple notepad docs to d drive. Have to save to a folder. Any ideas on how to change this?

Will Custom Install Format Hard Drive ?

Just need to know if windows 7 "custom" install will reformat my hard drive, or simply install a clean version of windows? I have xp right now and i want to do a clean windows 7 install, but i want to leave my data on the hard drive, like my pictures, mp3's, documents, etc. I don't care if it deletes all my installed programs because i want to re-install my programs anyway. I just want to know if the "custom" install option reformats the entire drive, that's all. Anyone?

Dvd Drive Wont Format Blank Discs

The dvd drive won't format. I have the same problem as some one else on the forum. I get a message"windows was unable to complete the format. " You suggested to go to "troubleshooting". This does not appear on my computer. I get a message"windows was unable to complete the format. " I have tried other discs no go. I hooked in a usb dvd drive and was able to format after 1 failure.

I tried the "update drivers" but there was nothing to update. I had to reset this computer once before to factory settings with dell showing me how, because the internet settings became corrupted and would not change. I have had nothing but problems with this machine since i bought it, a high end dell. Is it dells fault or is it vista? I don't really know when the problem started. Any help would be appreciated.

Usb Flash Drive - Usb Device Is Not Recognized

I have tried 4 different usb flash drives from different manufacturers and my usb hard drive from western digital. Windows 7 recognizes it until i start transferring files. Then it can't find the drive. When i unplug it and plug it back in, i get a notification that the usb device is not recognized. After i restart the computer, it does the same thing all over again. I ran vista before windows 7 and never had this problem. I am very frustrated. I must have access to my flash & external drives or windows 7 is useless to me.

Win 7 Fails To Assign A Drive Letter To A Usb Drive

Windows 7 fails to assign a drive letter to a usb drive (in this case an olympus ls-10 recorder). I have a plug and play ls-10 recorder. It works fine on all of my xp systems. When i plug it into my windows 7 64 bit system, "nothing" happens. Upon further investigation, the disk manager sees the drives (there are 2), but no letter is assigned. I tried assigning, but i keep getting a message that asks me to refresh, restart or reboot, none of which works. I have tries to uninstall and install the devices - same result. I tried to assign the drive letters in command mode, but i get a "no volume" error. Ny suggestions?

Can't Eject Usb Hard Drive, Drive Always In Use

I have a 500gb maxtor onetouch 4 external usb backup drive that is set to do weekly backups with windows backup. This works great except that everything and their grandmother wants to spin the hard drive up whenever possible. This is not an ideal situation: with exception to backup, this drive is not used for anything. So i had a great idea, i'll keep the drive unmounted until i need to backup which then a newly created scheduled task would mount, backup and unmount when done! Well, turns out, windows doesn't think so. And this makes me a sad panda.

Secondary Drive Or Any Usb Drive Is Not Accessible

After installing windows seven on my primary drive (followed the installation procedures for 7 on 32 bit xp pro) all works fine except my secondary drive or any usb drive is not accessible.get error message they are not available. They are in the setup bios and in devices, but in my computer if i left click i get the error message.

However my secondary disk is a sata 500 gig drive. Windows 7 will recognize dvd/cd drive but only the "c' drive (of hard drives)> i have tried usb drives in addition to the sata but it does not read them, only tells me they are not accessible. The one exception was the windows easy transfer data sent to a usb disk made prior to loading windows 7.

This is regarding the date and/or time on the right-hand side of the taskbar. Mine only displays the time . I've looked and searched but cannot find a way to add the date and/or day of the week there (with the time). I've seen the time, day of week and date on some pcs, so it can be done. But how?
I also have 2 additional time zones which show when i hover the mouse over the time, which is fine - then the date and day of the week show in the popup, but i want besides my local time, also the date and day of the week displayed on the taskbar.

How To Format Digital Photo View?

I need to format disk f, and i can't figure out how. I put in my digital photo viewer into my windows 7 computer (toshiba, satellite: l305d-s5974), it says i need to format the disk in drive f, and before that it said i need to format the disk in drive e. It changed when i put in my flash drive (staples flash drive: 4 gigabites). When i do try to format it, it says that windows was unable to complete the format (it said that too when it said i need to format the disk in drive e). I have searched all over the internet and i cannot find a single solution, even on microsoft's website. Please let me know when you have a solution as soon as possible.

Wrong Format For Short Time

This is not properly a development question, but it is reflected in development -and i could not find a place to file bugs for windows 7. In windows 7 ultimate (i haven't tested with different versions of 7), when you set "format" in "region and language" to italian (switzerland) the short time is wrong. The default format is "h:mm tt" but

1) tt is ignored: the example shows for ex. "7:32" when it should display "7:32 p. M. "
2) "h:mm tt" is not the correct default, it should be "hh:mm"

Curiously, the date in the taskbar is in fact in hh:mm format regardless of this setting, and also .net's datetime. Now. Toshorttimestring() returns "19:32" in the example above. However other applications like mozilla thunderbird are influenced by this setting and resent from this bug (in a email program it's rather annoying when you can't tell 7 am from 7 pm). I would be thankfully if someone could tell me how to file a bug report as i couldn't find anything in connect or under my msdn.

Zipped Files And Folders Changing Format

When i receive zipped files or folders in emails or on discs, they show as explorer zip files without the usual 'zippered' icon. A right click has no result. When i left click, i get multiple blank windows repeatedly trying to open. The only way to get past this is to power down my laptop. Very frustrating. I have spent enough time searching other forums but i'm not program savvy so i don't want to try to fix it without understanding the problem.
