Installing Win7 On Virus Infected Netbook

I am trying to upgrade an infected eeepc running xp to 7. I don't care about any data on the pc. When running a custom install from an external dvd drive, it asks where i want to install windows. No drives appear in the dialog box. A note at bottom says no drives were found. Click load driver to provide a mass storage driver for installations.

The options are to refresh (no avail) or load driver. I have searched both the hard drive and the install disk but it won't find anything acceptable. Any suggestions? Can i just start the install by starting from the install disc? How would i do that?

Installing Windows 7 On Asus Eee Pc 900a Netbook

I am pretty technical when it comes to windows and i was able to install win 7 on multiple computers from a flashdrive by using diskpart. The real problem that i have now is that i am trying to install windows 7 on a netbook. To be more specific it is an asus eee pc 900a which has a limited ssd drive of 4gb (actual formatted space of course is 3. 8gb) it came factory with a linux distro but windows is far more superior so it will do what i want. Trying to install it straight on gives an error from the install that there is not enough space. How can i make it fit?

Installing New Disk Drive

My problem is more involved than the title suggests. Let me explain.

When i upgraded from vista to windows 7 i attempted a files in place upgrade. That upgrade failed and got itself into a continuous loop attempting to back out of the upgrade. I have two drives, the main boot drive and a second 1 terabyte drive. I should have just reloaded windows clean on the main boot drive, but i didn't. I loaded windows on my terabyte drive, hoping that i would be able to save my data on the boot drive, which i was never able to do. I have been running fine that way, but. Now i want to replace that boot drive with a new larger drive. My question is:

Where is the registry stored. Is it on my boot drive or is it on my terabyte drive that i loaded windows onto. If i remove my old boot drive and install a new drive, will i still have a usable system.

My old drive boots now as drive d:. My terabyte drive boots as c:. It is actually configured as a dual boot system now, but i never boot up the old system because it is still in the infinite loop trying to back out of the upgrade.

Install Win 7 Rtm Via Iso - License Is Invalid

Okay, so i know it's not the best way to go about this but non the less it is what i need to do now. I am too backed up with other systems work and non systems work to do a complete re-install right now. I have the windows rt 7100 on my computer. I am reading how to do the work around of installing via this way, see link, http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd446674%28ws. 10%29.aspx.

I have the windows 7 rtm downloaded and also a copy on a disc as well as an upgrade company from my new computer. They are all windows 7 professional. I want to burn the iso to a disc and i am having trouble finding the iso when i view the download files and or the disc that i put in.

I also backed everything up but am concerned that i can copy all the files and data over, i did a systems image backup using the software in the windows rc version and saved it to an external hard drive.

Two questions, in doing the upgrade via this method does that mean that i don't have to re-install all of my other programs at this time?

At some point, i will do it anyways, i just want to know all the ramifications, will the system tell me that my license is invalid or check and cause an alert of this. I have my license keys for all of my copies of windows professional 7, so will it prompt me to put the right licenses in at some point in the upgrade?

Explorer Will Not Copy 8gb Iso Image File To External Drive

Windows explorer will not copy an 8gb iso image file to an external drive with 185gb of free space says file is too large for the destination file system. I tried copying an 8gb iso image file to an external drive with 185gb of free space and windows explorer keeps giving me the message "file is too large for the destination file system".

Then i tried copying the same file to a separate partition on my hard drive and it worked smoothly. I also tried copying a folder containing the sae content and about the same size and it also copied easily. I don't understand why it will not copy the 8gb iso file. By the way i am using windows 7 ultimate.

Installation File Won't Run Without Iso Burning Software

Problem installing downloaded version of windows 7 professional on a netbook running xp with no external dvd drive - installation file won't run without iso burning software. I downloaded windows 7 professional to install on my netbook running windows xp - the help indicated that this would be possible and would avoid the need for an external dvd drive but because it needs to be a clean install the file downloaded is a . Iso file which i guess needs to be burnt to a cd to run?

Is there any way of getting round this without getting an external dvd drive, possibly by using alcohol120% to mount it on a virtual drive - i guess this could be a problem with a clean install, so would it work if i put it on my external hard drive?

Moving Data From 1st Disk To 2nd Disk

I installed my w7 on a single disk pc then i added a second disk for data. I want to have all my data (documents, photos, music, etc. ) In this second disk. In xp, when i did so, i copy my documents from "documents and settings" folder to the new location (d:/) and i was done. Now in w7 i open the "user" folder i found that files are not on a single folder but that there are several document folders (images, documents, etc. ) And settings folders (favorites, etc. ). May i copy all the user folder to the new location or i must leave there some of them in c:/system/users? In xp, when i move my documents to d:, every thing was redirected there (default1 saving folder, default download folder, defautl music folder, etc. ) In w7, would happen the same? The link on the desktop will redirect me to the location or may continue pointing the old one.

Disk Read Error And Recovery Disk Not Working

I have a toshiba satellite c650 that has recently come up with a disk read error. I want to access the command prompt to try some potential solutions that i have read about on the internet. I have made a windows 7 recovery disk using my other acer laptop which also has windows 7 installed. When i use the recovery disk and it has loaded the files etc it just brings up a black screen and the cursor. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? I tried booting my acer laptop from the recovery disk and it worked fine. Also does anyone have any suggestions as to why i am getting the 'disk read error - hit ctrl, alt and delete to restart' message?

Netbook Activation Key Invalid

I was trying out some other operating systems on my netbook and uninstalled the factory windows 7 starter and was trying out ubuntu, jolicloud etc. When i went to put windows 7 starter back on my netbook it says my key is invalid. The key that is on the outside of my netbook doesn't work and says its for windows 7 starter.

I was wondering if the netbooks didn't come with the "actual" windows 7 starter but a different one just for netbooks and thats why i am getting this key error? If that is true is there a link to that iso image or installer and i could install that? I have a toshiba nb205 netbook.

Hp Mini Netbook Will Not Play Sound

My new netbook will not play any sound i recently purchased an hp mini and after setting it up, i discovered it would not play any sound. I've tried to troubleshoot the problem, but a message comes up saying that no problem was found. Neither the speakers or the headphones will play any sound. I've tested both and tried to play videos, but still there has been no sound. I also restarted my computer to see if it would help and it didn't. I've made sure my headphones work and the netbook could not have been damaged because when i found out about this problem i had just taken it out of the package.

New Netbook - Reinstall And Upgrade Pathing

I just recently bought an asus netbook that came pre-installed with windows 7 starter. It is my current understanding that i cannot reinstall this program on my computer (even if i had a bootable usb key) - is this correct? If it is not possible to reinstall windows 7 starter, would it be possible by purchasing the upgrade path to windows 7 home premium? Basically, i'm wondering what the minimum path is to get to a re-installable version of windows 7.

Netbook Cannot Start - Safe Mode Stops At Classpnp.sys

My msi u130 windows 7 starter does not start, merely gets to the loading screen (where you see the green flash going above the words microsoft corporation). Launch startup repair shows a white bar and the message windows is loading files before going to the loading screen. Launching os recovery does the same as above. Using safe mode hangs at 'classpnp.sys'. A variety of other safe mode options stop at 'classpnp.sys'.

I downloaded the windows 7 recovery disk iso and put it on a usb. After some problem with "ntldr is missing press ctrl alt del to restart" downloaded bootsect.exe, used that, then got a message windows is loading files and a white loading which, which, when complete, put me back tot he normal windows loading screen, zero other activity. Have tried to boot to a linux system off a usb to replace the classpnp.sys file with one i found on this xp machine, but can't get linux to start off the usb. So any ideas? With my main laptop with my wife i desperately need this netbook working, not least because it has office 2007 on it.

Error - Logonui Exe No Disk - Outlook Exe No Disk

I have windows 7 professional running 64 bit. A very annoying error pops up every five minutes or so. The message varies and can read "logonui exe no disk" or "outlook exe no disk" or "your favorite app. - No disk" depending on what i am running at the time. I have looked at many forums and can see that this error occurred in previous windows flavors. Some answers point to malware or infected file, others seem to think it's a corrupt install file. I have a fresh install of win 7. My previous os being xp.

I have reinstalled win7 and tried repair functions. No luck so far.

Not Enough Disk Space

I installed windows 7 on my dell pc. The os is in d: drive. When i run windows easy transfer to retrieve my old files i get an error saying there is not enough disk space. Yet i have 198 gb free, it's supposed to take only about 116 gb. Now according to the easy transfer program it also wants to transfer some information to drive c:, though i didn't run the transfer program on drive c:, only on drive d: dell uses the c: drive with a only a small partition for some diagnostic programs. According to the transfer program, it wants to transfer about 83 megabytes of data, and theres only about 11 mb of free space left.

Am i going to have to get a partition program to make it a larger partition, or what? Also, when i run the transfer program and go to advanced options where it shows the drive mappings, it shows the drive mappings as c: -> c:, d: -> d:, and maxtor (where i had the easy transfer program store my files -> maxtor. I assume i need to change the maxtor to maxtor -> d:, is this correct?

Recovery Disk Gone

In the course of trying to resolve a problem with a "low disk space" error message that i have been getting i apparently my entire recovery drive (d:), about 8g.

I went to the "my computer" icon and right clicked and selected "manage", found the "disk management" section, selected my "hp-recovery (d:)", right clicked "format", changed from "fat32" to "ftns". The drive formatted and showed up empty. Then the directions i was following told me to right click on the new formatted drive and click "delete volume". It then talked about following some other steps about renaming the drive but mine has completely vanished.

So in conclusion, i'm an idiot. I deleted a recovery drive and didn't even fix the problem i set out to fix. Please if anyone can help i would be very grateful.

Error - There Is No Disk In Drive

I am getting this error code any time i turn on my hp photosmart, and also when i close the tray on my cddvd burner. I am running an acer aspire 5920. I did a clean install of windows 7 over my vista home premium. I'm pretty sure that i still am considered a novice user, comparatively speaking.
