Win 7 Does Not Recognize Usb Drive & Ipod

This has been really bothering me. Windows 7 works perfectly with my old programs after my upgrade. Only when i plug in my usb external drive and ipod touch, ipod video. It does not recognize it. I tried device manager and looking for it there, it does not show up. When i go on safe mode, "usb mass storage" shows up but i cannot update cuz it keeps saying it already has the best driver installed. When i look at "properties" it says there is no driver installed.

With my ipods, i tried stopping and restarting ipod service, apple mobile device, itunes. I tried reinstalling a newly downloaded copy of itunes at least 4 times. That does not work.

There is a registry fix for this on windows xp titled "windows xp cannot detect a usb flash drive, an apple ipod, or an external hard disk drive" but does not have one for windows 7. The xp fix even has a download fix for fixing the registry. Is there one also for windows 7. I am going through the trouble of installing virtual pc and xp mode just to use my devices.

Ipod Classic (80gb) Usb Device Not Recognized

I have recently upgraded to a new laptop (acer aspire 5738g) running windows 7. I have successfully transfered my itunes library across and have installed itunes (x64) which is running fine. When i plug my ipod classic (80gb) into a usb port i get a message saying 'usb device not recognized'. I have managed to get it working once but when i did, i got an error message saying 'this drive could run faster' or something along those lines. I have tried other usb devices and all seem to work fine so i'm assuming its the drivers for the ipod or a compatibility issue with 7 and itunes.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, have reinstalled the usb drivers and have scoured the net for a fix but wo is still me! I have waited patiently for a fix from either microsoft or apple but as yet nothing. It seems that this is a wide spread problem. Does anyone have any ideas as what was once a slightly annoying problem is turning into a right royal pain in the a$$.

Win 7 Recognize Flash Drive As Disk Drive

Windows 7 will not recognize flash drive, sees it as disk drive. How do i get win 7 to recognize my flash drive for what it is and allow me to use it? Whenever i try to open it in my computer it tells me there is no disc in the drive. Disk manager list it as a usb drive. Win 7 says flash drive is a disk drive in my computer. Device manager lists it as a usb flash drive but lists it under disk drive.

Win 7 Does Not Recognize Belkin Usb Adapter

I performed a registry cleanup on my computer last monday using norton 360 with mixed results. The major problem i'm having is that i can't seem to connect to my belkin wireless usb adapter anymore.
I did a system restore, and an uninstall/re-install of the latest belkin driver software. The adapter does manage to connect on occasion, but returns to its inoperable state if i put the computer to sleep or try to do a reboot.

If i try a clean install, w7 typically tries to connect to the adapter but then it either says that the device isn't recognized or says there is no device at all. When i run a diagnostic, w7 recognizes the problem but it figures that i'm trying to connect through my ethernet cable and not via usb. I can't seem to make it point to the usb connection. Am i missing anything? Is there a manual fix?

Computer Cannot Recognize Usb Storage Devices

I am using a brand new hp with windows 7. The first time i plug any thumb drive or my external hard drive into any usb port my computer immediately recognizes it by name and i able to use files on it and save to it normally. When i safely remove it and come back the second time and plug it into my computer nothing happens. I go to my computer and see it is shown as "unknown device". When i use the "trouble shoot hardware devices" tells me it is not recognized and i get this message:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have tried turning the computer off and rebooting but i still get the same message. I have used the update driver and get the message that the proper driver is installed. I have gone to the "windows 7 compatability center" and my simpletech 160 gb external hard drive is listed as compatible. Please tell me what i can do to make my computer recognize and allow me to use these devices. Without being able to use them so that i can do work at home and take it back and forth to school, i really have no need for the computer in the first place !

I am able to use all my external usb storage devices on xp at school as well as on an old laptop at home with no problem. The only problem i have is windows 7 apparently. Since i have tried three different usb plug n' play devices with the same result (each of which was recognized only the first time i plugged them in) it obviously is not the fault of the storage devices.

Is anyone out there?

Win 7 Recognize Usb Gps As A Serial Mouse

Windows 7 + usb gps becomes serial mouse = bad news*i know this has been asked quite a few times on here, and a solution has yet to appear, but since it has been awhile since the last time it was posted i thought i would see if any progress has been made. Problem: plugging in a usb gps, or a serial gps connected via a serial->usb adapter causes windows 7 to improperly recognize the device as a serial mouse, and since the data stream is rapid, the mouse pointer begins to jump all over the screen.

In xp, disconnecting the gps temporarily left behind the serial mouse in device manager, and disabling it there would then allow the system to be used again. Unfortunately, in win 7 when the gps is unplugged the system immediately removes the device from device manager. Additionally, the tools microsoft had released to combat this problem on the front end have not been released for windows 7. So we have the choice, continue to hold the laptop rollout, or revert to rolling them out with xp. Neither option is ideal. Anyone have any ideas?

Usb / Firewire Combo Card Does Not Recognize External Hd

I recently installed a new usb/firewire combo pci card on a i7-920 win7 professional based computer. The usb part works fine but the firewire does not recognize external hds. However external hds were connected to the firewire port on the motherboard, it worked fine. Changed firewire driver to legacy driver that came with win7 pro did not solve the problem. Moving the card to a different pci slot does not solve the problem.

Now under the device manager, the driver is "working properly" but the card just won't recognize the external devices. Is this a driver problem (i.e. Need a newer or win7 pro specific driver)?  If it is, where to get it?  Have searched internet and numerous websites (including card manufactuer) but cannot find an answer. Is this card defective?

Win 7 Does Not Recognize Hard Drive

I am building two new computers and purchased two oem licenses of windows 7 home premium 64-bit. Both computers are using a biostar ta890gxb hd motherboard, amd phenom ii x6 1055t cpu, lg gh24 multi-optical drive, and 4 gb of kingston ddr3 1333 ram. The first computer was recycling a maxtor stm3320620as hard drive. This had been recently reformatted to ntfs, so essentially starting over from scratch. The second computer was using a brand new hitachi hd30500idk hard drive.

Upon booting up the first computer, i would get to the screen where i am to choose what hard drive to install on, but none are listed. The bios does show the hard drive properly. I tried going into advanced section to load drivers, but it can't find any drivers for the sata controller. I then followed advice i found when searching for a solution and i found how to get to the command line.

I am able to go to the c: drive. I was able to re-format the c: drive. After it was finished, i tried to go back in and it still does not recognize any hard drives. After a while, i gave up and tried working on the second computer. Upon booting up the second computer, i got to the screen for choosing the hard drive and it identified the hitachi hd. I was able to install the operating system and everything has been exactly what i was expecting it to be. S stated, they are identical except for the hard drives.

I have double checked all my connections numerous times on the first computer but everything checks out fine. It seems odd that i can access the hard drive in command line and in the bios, but the windows 7 installer doesn't recognize it. Any advice besides going out and purchasing a new hard drive?

Win7 Can't Recognize Driver For Raid C: Drive

I am trying to upgrade from windows xp professional (32 bit) to windows 7. The installation stalls when it asks for a cd or dvd with the drivers used by my ati 1x2 mirror/raid1 scsi disk device. I tried to get it to recognize the drivers already installed on the machine. It won't, it keeps insisting on a cd or dvd. I copied the correct drivers from the xp windows/system 32 using the file identities in "hardware" under windows system to a dvd. No dice.

I downloaded the drivers from hp (the pc is a compaq/hp machine) and installed them on the dvd. Still doesn't work. Now what do i do. If i format the drive and start afresh, the upgrade disc won't find my xp system, and may not up grade. Windows claims that my machine is windows 7 ready.

Win 7 Won't Recognize The Hard Drive

Got an h. D. Attached by a sata controller to my computer.
When i click on "my computer" i can't see it.

I tried right click on computer and "manage".
This is what i see under "disk management":

As you can see, windows recognize "disk 2" yet won't assign it a drive letter. When i click on "change drive letter and path" i get an error message:

Needless to say refreshing it won't help.

Anyhow, the disk worked just before i installed windows 7 (it's a fresh installation).
So it's some kind of "new hard drive".
It contains valuable data.

Any idea how to access it? Maybe it lost its file table?

Asus G73 Drive Does Not Recognize Blu Ray Disc

Recently got a new laptop - asus g73 with blu ray/windows 7 64 bit pro/comes with powerdvd 9
When i put a dvd in the drive, everything works fine.

When i put a blu ray disc in the drive - windows does not recognize that there is a disc in the drive (i.e. No auto-play, no disc recognized in windows explorer). Also, the powerdvd9 software also does not recognize there is a disc inserted. When i first opened the powerdvd program, it asked me to setup the correct region codes, and i've also setup the correct country in windows. The model of my blu ray drive is "matshita bd-cmb uj141as".

Win 7 Once Connected To Nas Drive Wont Recognize Upnp Devices

I have a laptop running windows 7 that once connected to a nas drive wont recognize upnp devices, is very slow to uninstall programmes, will not shutdown, and generally grinds to a halt. I have a western digital nas drive, an hp hdx18 laptop and a htpc connected together through a bt ethernet router. Every time i connect the laptop to the nas drive it starts to behave strangely.

1. It will not recognize any new upnp devices that i plug in such as external hard drives
2. The printer stops working - all print jobs are queued until after a reboot
3. Software uninstall can take a very long time
4. The machine will not shut down. It hangs on the windows shutdown screen with the blue circle spinning.
5. The machine seems to become unstable and slowly grinds to a halt.

The trouble started happening when i installed the wd software. However, i cannot be sure it was this that caused the issue as i was changing other software at the time. At the time i was running vista 64 home premium. I have subsequently upgraded to windows 7 x64 hoping that would fix it - no joy.

Further clues are that i have recently bought a htpc and installed windows 7 and the wd software. This works fine and does not show the same symptoms. I do suspect that the registry of the laptop may have some corruption (at least that is what free registry check software says - i have not bought any software to fix the issues). Do you have any idea what is wrong?

Error - Unknown Device - Usb Does Not Recognize Garmin Device

Just recently, windows 7 home premium addition has stopped detecting my garmin device. Other usb devices such as my ipod work fine. I was able to get it to detect the garmin only a few times, it would try to install the drivers but the drivers would fail to install. The garmin was working a few weeks ago. Below is a list of everything i have already tried:

Rebooting (after everything i try)
- Turning the computer off and leaving it unplugged overnight
- Completely uninstalling all drivers and software associated with the gamin.
- Manually installing drivers
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for new hardware
- Uninstalling the unknown device and doing a search for legacy hardware (this produces a device not functioning (code 10) error)
- Reverting back to a restore point before the last windows update

Please, any help would be very appreciated. I am decently computer savvy and have always been able to fix any problems that i have. This one has had me spinning my wheels for days.

Ipod Sync Issue

I have an ipod 4th gen using itunes and have recently purchased a new computer with windows 7 64bit installed. I also have an iphone that i use with the same computer that works beautifully. The problem with the ipod is that when i plug it in windows 7 gives me a message that it needs to scan and repair my ipod, which after allowing this process, windows was unable to access this disc. Originally i thought the problem was with the ipod or itunes, so i restarted and reinstalled the software on the ipod, uninstalled itunes and reinstalled, which did not work. Next, i sent my ipod back to apple and they replaced it. Today i installed a fresh copy of itunes and synced my iphone first, which worked fine, but when i went to sync the ipod it gave me the error again and locked up itunes and i was unable to sync the ipod.

What am i doing wrong?  Is windows 7 blocking my ipod because it sees it as another drive?  Is there some setting in windows 7 to prevent this from happening?

I am desperate, i want to like windows 7, but i never had any problem like this with my laptop which has the exact same setup except that it has vista installed. If i cannot resolve it i will end up going back to vista.

Printer Removal And Ipod Driver

I'm having issues in two areas with our new (a few months old) hp desktop computer. First, if i open up the devices and printers window, there are two older printers next to the current one, and i can't delete them. Yes, i am logged in as admin, and yes, i've right-clicked and selected "remove device" more times than i can tell you, but they never get removed. My second issue is with our ipod nano (not the latest, but the one before that).

We have the very latest apple software (itunes, quicktime, etc. ) Installed, but once again visiting the devices and printers window, there is an alert badge on the ipod device icon. If i right-click to properties and then to the hardware tab, the message says "windows is uninstalling this device (code 21)". Not sure what this is all about, but it doesn't sound kosher to me. By the way, the ipod seems to work and sync with itunes ok.

No Ipod Touch Device Driver For Win7

I recently got an ipod touch 3rd generation, but cannot get it connected to my computer which has the windows 7 operating system. I have searched all over the internet (including the apple website and this website) for an answer, but been unsuccessful, so this is my last hope. The problem is that i can find no drivers for the ipod, even though i (as i have previously stated) have searched all over the internet and have also troubleshooted my device and been into device manager etc.

When downloading i have also opted to do it so that i can see all the programs included in the download of itunes and quicktime (the package that is supposed to include the device driver), and have seen the device driver part of the download. However, when in the middle of its installation, it fails, and says that a problem occurred with the device- even though nothing even happened to the device, even the screen hadn't changed.

It also often connects and dis-contects without anything happening. And, the really strange thing is, is that everything works perfectly on a laptop i have which runs on the windows vista operating system. I hope that one of you experts will be able to aid me in this problem, or even solve it. I am aware that many other people windows 7 have this problem.

(I obviously connect it via usb. Nothing is wrong with the usb connection as it does appear on screen for a certain amount of time. I feel my problem is because of the drivers that seem to be unavailable)
