Problem Saving / Opening Files In Explorer & Programs

I have problem saving and opening files in windows explorer and third-party programs. I've been having this problem for a couple of months now and it's very annoying for example, when i use the snipping tool in windows 7 the files will not save so i have to take a print screen of that and open it with more software. Also, when i download files in firefox and other things, clicking 'open file location' does absolutely nothing. I assume these two issues are related as they started occurring around the same time.

Saving Files

I am having trouble with window 7, saving files and other programs, i have to upgrade 3 other programs that i mostly use. Photo shop(new software)  gives me a message  about not turning off maximize compatibility and can't save files. Family tree won't let me save to pdf. Ordered new update. Way to much time wasted looking for help on the net and can't use explorer 8, as it won't allow me to view pictures in side my email. I have to use google chrome. Saving Offline Files To A Seperate Partition

When i installed win7 on my vaio i created a separate partition for my data (d:) & reserved the smaller (40gb) c: partition for system files. When i activate offline files, it quickly fills the c partition as it is storing these offline files in the csc folder.

I followed all the advice i received in the folowing thread:

http://social. Answers.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/w7files/thread/6af0cf60-84f6-4e48-b0a1-2780a5fd7b7a
Without success. Apparently i'm not the only one having this probem. It still tells me that 'access is denied' when trying to delete csc folder.

Problem Saving Jpeg Files From Internet

I have been trying to save jpeg file (census image from ancestry.com) and it tells me it is saved on my desktop as i want. When i go to the desktop it isn't there, search facility doesn't find it. I go back to the image and try to save again and it tells me it is already on the desktop. I tried setting up a folder to save to but had the same problem, image says it is saved but it doesn't show and can't be found by search.

I can save images as an adobe and have no problems but i don't get the option to choose how it is saved, it is just as jpeg.

Install Error 2329 And Saving Downloaded Files

Increasingly i have noticed repeated errors concerning file access on windows 7. While uninstalling a program, i will get the 2329 error halfway through, and also errors while trying to save downloaded files (i assume something to do with 0 length files), messages informing me that the file cannot be saved.

I believe that these two errors are connected, and are caused by the slow response of the os and anti-virus software, keeping handles to files open longer than is required, leading to these errors.

 Any thoughts?

No Programs Opening In Win 7

I'm having a problem that is truly bizarre. I installed windows 7 professional and immediately set to work installing some of the drivers and software i would need. I used firefox to install most of the others, rebooted for each, and then i tried to open some of these up.

Most of the programs had more or less the same problem: they don't show up. No windows, task bar presence or systray icons. So i tried reinstalling, but the installers won't work either. The "invisible" programs all appear in the processes tab of the task manager when i try to launch them, load two or three mb into memory, and then stop, never making progress beyond that.

I'm at a loss - i can't think of anything that could cause this. So far, i've found that firefox, pidgin, avast! Antivirus, vistabootpro, the razer barracuda sound card configuration utility and even windows media player aren't opening (though sound works fine). Ie, windows media center and the task manager are so far the only programs i've been able to open. Everything seemed to work fine two or three reboots ago. I can't figure out what it could be - i uninstalled the antivirus software and disabled uac thinking that could be it, but still no luck, and now uninstaller don't even load.

Opening Files With The Correct Program

I have done something to my laptop and i am not sure how i did it. I tried to open a pdf file and it would not open. I proceeded with trying to open it with adobe reader. I figured out later that the reason it did not open is because the original file could not be found. The original file was on a flash drive. Anyways, the problem is now when i try to open a file it tries to open with the adobe reader and all the icons on my desktop are the adobe reader icon.

I think when i tried to open that specific file using "open with" it changed everything. My question is: is their a way to change it to where the files will automatically open with the program they are supposed to? Is it something simple or will i need to seek professional help?

Though our chm files have absolutely no defect, our customers may feel anxiety about opening files when they see security warning. What can i do about this problem?

Problem Opening Files On Server

We have a small network; windows 2008 sbs and 10 workstations. 2 of the workstations are running windows 7 enterprise. Only those 2 workstations that are running windows 7 are having the following problem:intermittently, when attempting to open files from the server (word and excel definitely, possibly other types) explorer will lock up. The document will not load. Only way to break out of it is to use task manager to kill explorer.exe and then reboot. Ll workstations and the server are updated with current ms updates. We don't have any errors in event logs when this issue occurs. We've disabled antivirus to no avail. Any ideas on what to look for?

Stops Opening Pdf Files From Website

My customer runs this site built in frontpage and maintained by godaddy (http://courthousecowboysrunamuk.net/) about 2 weeks ago the page started freezing up after opening and closing pdf documents. Only after about 5 or more times of trying them. Random links from the site. Not the same one every-time. The customer is running xp. The problem does not occur on other sites. I have uninstalled and reinstalled adobe reader. I have disabled and re-enabled the add on in ie.

I booted with all but windows processes disabled and startup extras disabled. The problem still occurred. I made sure all windows, ie, and adobe updates were present. I tried the same on another xp pc and the same problem occurred. It does not occur on windows 7 computers. Do not have a vista in the office to try. Am going to uninstall updates from an xp computer to see if that fixes it, but any other ideas?

Does anyone know how to open something like a text file instead of the executable? I've tried doing this:

Shell\text\command=class.txt
Shell\text=open text file

But that just gave me an error. Does anyone know how i could set that up, and if its even possible.

Explorer And Compatibility Files

Recently while in an application, i created and saved four data files in a *.txt format. When prompted to indicate where the files should be saved, i specified a sub-directory that i'd created on the c drive. However, when i went to find the files, they weren't there. So, i re-created them using the same application being very careful this time to make sure the directory i wanted them saved to was correct. Again, when i went to look for them, they weren't there!

Then, i clicked on the "compatibility files" heading above the explorer window and lo and behold, the files appeared! I clicked again and they were gone . And again, and they reappeared! My questions are . 1. Where are the files really? 2. How do i get explorer to put them where i want them? 3. And what is (are), "compatibility files" all about? I'm using windows 7 home premium.

Internet Explorer 64-bit Missing From All Programs List

How do i restore internet explorer (64 bit ) to the "all programs" list? I dragged internet explorer ( 64 bit) from the "all programs" list to the desktop. Then, by accident i deleted that shortcut which went to the recycle bin which i actually emptied after. When i clicked on the start menu and the "all programs" list again the link to internet explorer (64 bit ) was missing to my dismay. Is there anyway i can get internet explorer ( 64 bit ) to show again on the "all programs" list? Windows 7 home premium

Explorer Stop When Copying Files

Windows explorer (and some parts of windows itself -_-) grinds to a stop when copying files from my computer's hard drive to an external hard drive. I am currently using windows 7 enterprise k (x86)

This is a problem i've been seeing from windows xp through windows 7. When i try to copy some files from my computer to my external hard drive windows explorer starts copying the file, then suddenly just stops.

I've seen a lot of programs crash on my computer, and i usually just press ctrl+shift+esc (sorry, i don't know what z‘—'¦¬z is called in english oss) and kill the process that crashed.

But when i try to kill explorer.exe:

1. It won't die. i.e. It's still in the process list, and i can still see the window that crashed
Even if i kill the mother explorer.exe (not just the one that shows me the window, the one that shows me the taskbar and desktop etc. ) The taskbar disappears, but when i start it up again the explorer.exe that crashed is still there.

2. It stays there forever. I've tried ignoring it all day long, and it's still there.

3. Windows becomes very buggy. After explorer.exe crashes, a lot more bugs that wern't there spring up, although i don't remember exactly what. I seem to remember that there were a lot more of those in windows xp than windows 7.

4. Windows doesn't even shutdown. I try pressing shutdown in the start-menu and it either takes forever to understand i wanted it to shutdown, or sometimes ignores me completely. I've also tried entering "shutdown /s" in cmd.exe and it does shutdown, only to get stuck on logging off.
Same with just pressing logging off, too.

And every time this happens, if i force-shutdown and try the same file again, it won't work that time either. Sometimes copying the file to the root of my external hard drive and moving it to the directory i originally wanted to copy it to works, but not always.

This is very, very irritating and i wish there was a way to fix it. I am also posting this question in the korean forum. Ps. I saw a answer to a similar question on the korean forum, and it told the questioner to update to vista sp1 or 2. I've been installing every update (except the optional ones) on my computer and i'm sure thats not the problem.

Programs Files Vs Program Files (x86)

What is the difference between the "program files" folder & the "program files (x86)" folder, in c drive? Various programs seem split almost equally between the 2, after i upgraded from vista to 7, except that internet explorer is in both, meaning that when i "open with" for a text file i get ie listed twice. Can i move everything to one or other of these & delete the other one? Is one for 64-bit and one for 32-bit programs or something like that?

Icons For Mp4 Video Files In Explorer

System specs:dell dimension e510 desktop pc pentium 4 3. 2 ghz
2. 5 gb ram

Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit i recently downloaded several videos from my flip camcorder to my video folder in windows explorer. Previously each mp4 video file (i have ~80) automatically shows a screenshot/preview pic of the video for the icon. Recently only generic icons appear for new videos i've downloaded.

Regardless of whether a generic or screen shot icon, each video file plays normally through windows media player. Is there some type of setting for this? It makes it much easier to find videos with the preview icon instead of a generic mp4 video icon.

Wav Files On Usb Device Crash Explorer

As a musician, i often have to copy large wav files from external devices. As soon as i upgraded to windows 7, browsing external usb storage devices containing wav files started crashing explorer. I can't perform any file operation on a wav file in such a device without getting "not responding" errors. The only workaround is to copy the files onto a machine running xp, and then send them over the network to my windows 7 machine. This takes too long and isn't acceptable. Is there something obvious i'm missing?

.exe Files Programs Problem

I accidentally set my computer so it will run .exe files with windows media center. I cannot seem to find a way to undo this problem. This makes launching programs impossible. I've seen other posts here, but none of the solutions i've seen seem to help. Since i cannot launch .exe files, i am unable to use cmd or notepad. I have tried assigning .exe files to a program and then uninstalling/deleting a file, but that also did not work. I do not want to do a system restore, since it's been a long time since i've created a restore point.
