Why Does Windows Media Player Takes So Much Cpu / Ram?

Why does the windows media player takes so much ram and cpu even when i don't use visualization? While surfing the net or playing game and wmp is on it gets very laggy. Now i'm using avs media player and it takes 50% less cpu/ram then wmp but unfortunately it doesn't have the "srs wow effect" like in wmp.

Upgrading Ram - Which Type Of Ram I Would Need?

Currently i have a windows vista 32 bit, and am going to go to windows 7 64 bit. I only have 2 gigs of ram right now but i want to upgrade to 4 gigs.

Current specs:
Intel core2 duo t9300 2. 5ghz
2. 00gb ram
Windows vista 32 bit

1- i was wondering how to find out which type of ram i would need. (Btw, this is a laptop)

2- is there anywhere that can give instructions for self installation (i heard it was easy to do myself), or if its even wise to do it myself.

3- would it would benefit me to install the ram before or after i did a clean install for windows 7

Ps- any reliable companies that you would suggest that make ram.

Media Center Takes Over

Recently downloaded itunes. Duh. I don't use an ipod. Downloaded amazon down-loader from amazon website. Uninstalled itunes. Downloaded my first song from amazon.com. It did not show up as being downloaded. I thought it was being downloaded to the itunes. I know, i already uninstalled it. I futzed around with many settings. Now when i go online, try to download anything from the web, windows media center comes on, prevents me from going online through internet explorer, and prevents me from opening any download. What did i do?

Updating Takes Hours

I just purchase a new asus laptop and fired it up yesterday for the first time. When i shut down last night there was a message that there were 13 updates to install. When i got up this morning, update 4 was installing and it's been that way for about 3 hours now. Yesterday i loaded a printer driver, avg, and transferred my oe contact file by copying it onto a cd. Laptop was running problem free before i closed it down last night. Can i simply turn off the computer?

Installing Programs Takes Too Long

I have seen similar issues raised on this forum but none of the answers so far work for me. My system specs are : windows 7 64bit, 8gb ram, 2. 80ghz when i attempt to install various programs (games, audio editing, gadgets) the pc runs through the standard pop-ups, license acceptance etc in normal time right up until it attempts to actually install the program. Then it appears to stop. The pc doesn't crash, other applications keep working (freecell helps pass the time).

The install window isn't frozen (the loading 'pulse' keeps moving). Task manager shows the install program as 'running', cpu usage is 12% or thereabouts. Physical memory approx 17%. So it appears there is plenty of capacity to handle the task but no urgency. For all of the programs i have tried to install i have used normal, administrator, compatibility & safe boot install modes with no effect. Disabling virusguard and unnecessary applications / processes has no effect.

For minor applications after 8 to 10 hours the install may complete, i guess other applications might also complete too but i don't have a week to spare. Please, please don't suggest 'microsoft installer cleanup utility' - this bug occurs for several different programs and on 1st install even in safe mode. Nd please don't ask me to reinstall windows 7. You may as well suggest i buy a new pc (actually a mac is looking good right now).

Usb Takes Long Time To Eject

I upgraded to windows 7 over thanksgiving with no problems. However, recently i discovered that when i clicked on the "safely eject" icon on the taskbar to eject my usb drive, it takes over 1 min for the menu to pop up. I restarted my computer in safe mode and tried ejecting my usb, which worked fine with no lag. I don't know what happened that suddenly made ejecting so slow now. I haven't installed any new software since i upgraded, and this is definitely a recent issue. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Ie8, Office, Live Takes Several Minutes To Start

I'm running windows 7 64-bit with 12gb of ram on an i7 quad core. Whenever i start ie8 32-bit it takes several minutes before it will display a web page, most of that time it says waiting for about:blank in the status bar. I've searched the web and none of the solutions i've found work. I've noticed that office communicator and live meeting both take upwards of 5 to 6 minutes to start. I also use firefox and it starts on the same web pages as ie8 but only takes a second or two.

Since most of my work is using tools like share-point actually using firefox as my primary browser is not an option since it is not compatible with sharepoint. I've disabled all antivirus and even changed antivirus applications at one point so i don't think antivirus is an issue.

Hard Drive, Devices Window Takes Long Time To Open

When i open the "computer" window, to see the hard drive, devices, etc. It's taking five minutes for it to load. Why is it taking so long when the drives and devices should just pop up? Click on the start icon, move over to my computer, then wait forever for it to load.

It doesn't make sense why, this system is analyzing the content for so long when i just bought tis computer. I have a mac, and i know this is different. But my dell laptop, and my wife's old computer doesn't nearly take this long. If i right click over computer, open in new window appears, and it acts as it always has. Why the unnecessary difference between the two. It should be fixed.microsoft shouldn't let this go on for long.

Usb Drive Takes Long Time When Sorting Files In Directory

I have several external usb drives on my machine. Some of the folders on those drives contain several thousand files, the default is for them to be in name order. Fine. But i quite often want to rearrange them by date, everytime i do this i get the semi-transparent green progress bar at the top of the folder but it seems to take an age to complete.

On previous versions of windows clicking on the column you wanted files sorted by made the sort almost instant. Each time i go back to the folder i have to wait all over again. I thought i had added the folders to the library etc to make searching and sorting easier. Am i doing/not doing something stupid?

Boot Takes Minutes, Will Boot In Safe Mode

When i booted up this arvo, the computer took 15 minutes to get to the log in screen. Upon clicking the profile image, i had to wait another 5 minutes of unresponsiveness for even the desktop background to display. Rebooted 3-4 times, still happened, booted in safe mode, (which is how i'm writing this) and initially thought it was msmpeng.exe that was causing me issues, so i removed mse once i finally managed to get it going in normal mode. I thought the problem was fixed when i rebooted, and i had about 4-5 minutes of normal speeds before it slowed right down and became unresponsive.

When the computer is running, the actual computer itself sounds fine (hard disk is chattering away) but when going slow and unresponsive it only makes noises every 1-2 seconds, if that makes any sense, as if it's under a really heavy load. Hard to tell because i cant open anything. Ran a system restore, didn't do anything. I need help soon! I suspect a driver issue, but i'm just speculating. Specs: windows 7 home premium 64 bit 6gig ddr3 ram i7-860 cpu ati 5770 gpu

Cannot Kill A Hanging Process

The avast! Antivirus program suddenly stopped working. I tried to kill the process with the task manager and pskill, but had no success as access was denied. (I'm sys admin) there has been no new software or hardware added recently to the system. When i restart the pc, same problem occurs again. I didn't find any way to get rid of the avast.exe file or the entire program folder altogether. Tnx for any suggestions on how to kill or get rid of the avast application. Programs you are having problems with error messages recent changes you made to your computer what you have already tried to fix the problem.

Process Srrstr.dll

I have a problem with a rundll32.exe process srrstr.dll in task manager. From what i have found out this has to do with creating a restore point. This process will run forever until i stop it through task manager. I also have another problem that occurred around the same time. My external hard drive that i use as a backup is not showing my backups since this started. I believe that a backup might have been interrupted. Don't know if that could have caused all of this.

I had a screenshot but i cannot seem to paste it in here so i will type it out:

In task manager -> processes
"Image name" = rundll32.exe
"User name" = system
"Command line" = c:windowssystem32undll32.exe/d srrstr.dll, executescheduledsppcreation
"Description" = windows host process (rundll32)

I am running windows 7 pro 64 bit build 7600 v6. 1
Amd phenom ii 955 processor
Asus m4a785td-v evo mobo
4gb gskill ram
2 wd black 640gb hard drives & 1 external wd black 750gb hd as a backup

Raid 10 Array Process

I'm switching from xp to win 7 pro 64bit - i previously set raid 10 so have experience. This was done using f6 floppy on clean install xp pro 32bit with intel ich9r driver. I am going to do a clean install with win7 pro 64bit - i have read that in win 7 you don't need to use the same process but i am unclear what exactly occurs in the install process for win 7 - will win 7 simply recognize and install the correct drivers - or do i need to have the intel 64 bit matrix drivers ready on flash drive etc. Please confirm the process?

Ps this is hardware raid not software

Not Enough Storage To Process Command

I have major problem trying to install a new wlan pci card. When i first inserted it into the pc i figured the pnp would take care of everything but no so i installed it manually from the cd, this didn't work either so i tried to install it using a driver from the manufacturers website. The installation finishes and everything but windows still goes to look for drivers and when it doesn't find any i go to look in the device manager and i get the following error code:the drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) (but they are)not enough storage is available to process this command.

To find a driver for this device, click update driver. I have about 2, 5gig ram free and about 590 gig of disk space free so that can't be it right? The things i have tried are:running the setup file as administrator, performing a disk cleanup, creating a new account with administrator acces, "telling" windows installer where to find the driver installer. Nothing works. Doe's anyone have any good ideas?

Bsod During Boot Process

I was playing an on-line game when the system locked up. The keyboard was unresponsive, no ctlr-alt-del or anything else seemed to have an effect, i power cycled and now the system cannot pass the boot process before bsoding. I get the windows saying starting windows and it just starts to draw the microsoft 4 color logo (about 3 to 5 pixels worth) when it bsods and reboots. Trying the repair mode it just bsods again but without rebooting. If i try the command line it stops when it gets to classpnp.sys then reboots.

I did a full memory test using memtest86, all 8g passed 3 iterations.

If i try the repair, it "loads windows files" and then bsods with a machine_check_exception with a  stop value of 0x0000009c (0x000000000000003, 0xfffff88002865b60, 0x00000000b220000a, 0x00000000002010a)

Settings.ini Is Being Used By Another Process

My gadgets aren't working, neither is firefox. I have a problem with my sidebar, as-well, as a lot of others have on this forum and a lot of others. Every time i start up my computer this message is shown. I tried a clean boot and that took care of the error message, but when i tried running the sidebar it popped up. Besides that my firefox, keeps claiming that another firefox is already running which, from my point of view, doesn't make any sense.

This seems to have started after i tried connecting windows media center to my xbox 360 and there was an error. In searching the internet, i have found that quite a few people have posted this kind of problem, several after a snafu in setting up their xbox 360 for media center, but there seem to be no answers to be found.

Process Identifier (pid) 4024

Upon boot up of my desktop computer an error message shows ' the desktop colour scheme ' has been changed to windows basic because of qttask.exe ie. Apple computer inc program. My computer has an intel processor with no apple programs! I have carried out windows explorer and control panel searches without success of finding such a program. It then follows to say that windows home premium colour scheme will return when the apple program has been uninstalled.

Any suggestions to stop this error message appearing everytime i boot up would be much appreciated and my computer running normally with the windows 7 home premium o. S installed. For information : my windows 7 o. S was a clean install and not a upgrade.

Computer Start Up Process Never Finishes

I have a 64 bit computer i recently updated from vista to windows 7. I did the compatibility search, and ever thing was supposedly ok to go. I have had only 1 problem- if i shut down my computer, when i turn it back on, i get all the way to the desktop, and get the "busy" signal. Forever. I can't click on anything. My only option is to pull the plug. The way i get my computer started is to start in safe mode, and then restart, then it starts just fine. Any suggestions?

Cannot End Process On Gaming Programs

I recently installed windows 7, and previously used windows xp. I play a game called asda story, currently floundering between beta and live. My problem is that when it bugs out and freezes, and i go to desktop to shut down the program, in windows xp i hit end process and it shut it down immediately. In windows 7 it says "cannot end process" and won't shut down the program. It won't shut it down from either programs or process tabs in the task manager. This has also happened occasionally in fallout 3 when that game freezes up. I bring up task manager and it won't let me shut down the game. No matter what the process is, if i hit "end process" it should end the process. Why doesn't this work in windows 7 sometimes?

How To Disable Process Wlcomm.exe?

I need to lighten the load off my lower end e5200 processor. Wlcomm.exe seems to use quite a bit of memory. How can  prevent wlcomm.exe from starting up when i boot windows?I did uninstall windows live messenger since wlcomm.exe has something to do with the program. However, whenever i boot window's live mail, the process starts again.

Running Explorer As A Separate Process

Under windows xp we login to our workstations as a basic user and then launch a command prompt with administrator privileges using runas. This allows us to launch things like aduc or exchange system manager as our admin account.

Now i am in the process of creating an image and setting up security for windows 7. When attempting to do the same thing i get the message "windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. ". The account that the cmd prompt is running as is an admini account that is in the local as well as domain admin groups. So i dont see that this could be a permissions issue.

Also we have set the registry key hkcusoftwaremicrosoftwindowscurrent versionexploreradvancedseperateprocess = 1.

Windows Network - Not Enough Storage Available To Process Command

Cannot connect to wireless external drive - "microsoft windows network: not enough storage is available to process this command" error and system running slow after update. I just updated my laptop to windows 7 and am having a few problems. One - everything seems to be running slower (i thought it was supposed to be faster!). More problematic is the fact that i can't access my external hard drive which is networked. It shows it, but when i click on it (it's listed as a z drive), the error "microsoft windows network: not enough storage is available to process this command" shows.

I installed win7 on my husband's laptop the other day with no troubles. His is able to still access the networked drive without a problem and is running great. So great, i went and got it for my laptop. My husband's laptop is running the 64 version of home premium and mine the 32. I used upgrade advisor and fallowed all the recommendations it gave. Including uninstalling itunes. I saved my itunes files to the external drive and can't access them.

I have a hp pavillion dv6000 running webroot security suite.
2. 0 gb ram, t5600 @ 1. 83 ghz, inter core 2cpu

Dvd Maker Problem During The Burn Process

I have a sony dvd camcorder (mini disc)and sony vegas movie studio 6 software. Since getting a new laptop with windows 7 i've been having problems with vegas movie studio (i think it may not be fully compatible with windows 7). But it does manage to render my videos to a recognizable format (mpg) so i turned to windows dvd maker, which looks like a great and simple program to use initially. But like many messages on this forum i too had a problem during the burn process - mine only gets to approx. 4% and then comes up with an error message (but the error message displays no detail). What can i do? Is there an alternative? Can i burn a mini disc onto a dvd-r for example? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why do i need to do to properly install it.

System Process Locking External Hdd

I have a seagate freeagent desktop 750gb external hdd connected via usb port. When i connect the device to windows, it is immediately locked by a system process that i cannot shutdown. I ran some sys-internals tools and found the culprit.

C:>handle h:

I am aware that these files are part of transactional ntfs system which was present in vista, im unsure if win 7 has this same feature or an updated version.

I cannot delete these files since they are protected operating system files, i cannot unlock the process locking them so how am i supposed to safely eject my external drive. I have another external drive, a small wd passport which does not get locked by windows in the same manner therefore i have concluded that these system files on my external are remnants of vista (my previous os). My wd passport was never connected to a computer running vista.

Please do not tell me to format my drive because it's filled with data i cannot backup to an alternative right now. This is beyond infuriating, i have been trying to solve this issue on my own for days trying numerous methods.
